>he judges games based on what they were created in rather than the game itself
>made by an incompetent artist
When will the unreasonable hate for making a game in certain engine die?
I've seen pretty good AAA games made on Unity.
But I've literally seen no good indie game made on Unity.
Are you stupid? Unity is a full fledged engine that is almost as capable as Unreal. It just doesn't have the backing of Epic Games and Epic's lightning.
It's still a strong engine capable of accomplishing almost anything a modern game requires. That new RE game is being made in Unity
I believe Cities: Skyline was made in Unity too.
Hell, the game cam be RPG Maker for all I care. If it's good I'll play it.
The only time you should complain about a game engine is when it's being misused and considered obsolete yet is still being used - like Bethesda's GameBryo. That's the Morrowind engine and it wasn't that amazing even then. Yet FO4 uses a largely modified version of it.
Some engines are not mod friendly. Unity being one of them. reaction image
I'd rather a self-made engine (Overgrowth is a prime example of a decent effort) that's sufficient over Unity. If a company with employees that aren't obliged to work AT ALL on their project can produce their own, I see why hard-working Indie developers can't follow suit.
>mouse cursor is visible at all times and does not lock on to the window
im not a nerd and i know what rim lighting and chromatic aberration is, specially chromatic aberration because it looks like 3d shit without the 3d glasses, so yeah you have to be REAL dumb to not know at least 1 of them.
>Paradox is a triple A publisher
Pretty much on par with ActiBlizz, MS, EA, Sony, Ubi and Nintendo
>Made in fucking GameMaker
>Fucking making tons of people go ape-shit over it
It's not the software on which it's made. It's what is made that matters.
>Unity is a fail-proof indicator of useless low quality garbage.
Unity is excellent, it is just so easy to use that every idiot with a hint of an idea for a rip off game can use it, that and it was a very well stocked asset store.
What type of games would those be? Rpgs and strategy games made with unity have all turned out to be to be dogshit, even when used by experienced game devs.
If I wanted a sidescroller in 2015 I would be playing a mobile game in flash like a casual.
The thing is, I'm tired of downloading indie games made in unity and trying to run only to be faced with horrible FPS on 2d games.
My pc can run fallout 3 perfectly, but it cannot run unity 2d indie games.
Developers should just try to be better at optimizing their games. The engine itself is far from bad, but devs should just make an effort.
I'm learning unity and I'd never ship out a game with performance issues.
holy shit, you can run Fallout 3!?
what kind of a beast pc do you have?
>dev takes 10 years to make an engine and to learn it
>dev spends all their time and money on the engine and runs out before finishing the game, releasing an unfinished mess of a product
>that product still gets 10/10 everywhere
False. They had 7 employees at the time they developed the game. Source: Colossal Order's CEO.
Paradox is just the publisher and has nothing to do with the development of the game.
Overgrowth is a great example why everyone should use pre-made engines. The autist making Overgrowth is probably in the top five percent when it comes to skill and working ethic, but the workload for creating your own engine and tools is just way too much especially if you are making a 3D game. Please do not share your opinions about creating games on this site if you are this clueless.
>Game is made in Unity
It's all about the dev and how much effort he puts into it.
>But I've literally seen no good indie game made on Unity.
The sad reality is that /v/ doesn't really know shit about anything. People here judge engines by the games they see, since they don't work with engines themselves, and the games they see coming out of Unity aren't very good.
>Unreal Engine 4
unoptimized pieces of shit
> Pillars of Eternity
> Wasteland 2
> Kerbal Space Program
> Ori and the Blind Forest
> Cities in Motion 2
> The World Ends With You: Solo Remix
> Bad Games
You have a horrible taste in games.
please /v/ you are embarrassing yourselves
i'm keking hard at a board full of cavemen who do not so much as understand the basics of animation in video games thinking they can critisize entire engines
it's because genres are just a marketing tool used to group games for commercial purposes and not reflective of the game type.
indie typically describes games made by small teams on a low budget who try something a little different than what's typically backed by publishers and for less than $20.
