>ditching those beautiful sprites for this horseshit
Bet they still won't put Mary in anyway.
Fuck I was giving them the benefit of the doubt too. I am worried now.
I bet Mexico is really sad right now.
>SNK announces that they stop with the Pachinko
>KoF fans rejoice
>they still get something like this
SF5 has an actual budget and is made by people with experience in 3D animation.
>ugly af 3D models
>still uses choppy attack animations
> i don't know if it's the poor animations, or the bad collisions, low poly models or lack of any sort of proper lightning model
It's the all of those things, and the fact that the designs themselves looks very Maximum Impact-y.
They outsourced it to some Korean MMO dev.
SNK aint got no mo money to pay dem drawin niggas. Like, it took a day to finish one frame of a character. With these new, amazing models, they probably only took one day to do all of them!
If they redesign Kyo before release, it would redeem the game for me. As long as he still looks like a generic Chinese MMO character there is no way in fucking hell I can enjoy this.
The way this looks it better be budget priced.
Some indie shits look better than that.
Am I the only one who thinks the game looks ok?
Definitely not at all the god tier sprites of 13 but I don't know, it looks like a standard fare 2D fighter with 3D graphics. I just don't see where all this hate is coming from
I'm just not seeing how this looks like a Dreamcast or PS2 game.
Maybe it doesn't look like MGSV or other new high end games, but it looks better than the Maximum Impact games
I think people are just sour its not sprite based. Which I am too but considering SNK basically almost died in pachinko hell since the release of 13, I'd rather get anything at this point. as long as it plays good
>animations look bad
>models clipping everywhere
>no lighting whatsoever
For making the switch to models they sure took absolutely zero advantage of the typical strength of models. It just looks so cheap.
The problem isn't the quality of the graphics (which is poor but not abysmal), but the change in style. While not as drastically different as Maximum Impact's design was, it's still different from what people saw in previous 2D games.
Coming back to the graphics, the fighting game community is probably going to avoid this game like the plague unless they somehow make a good system. However, with how lazy the graphics are, that doesn't lead to any amount of optimism.
the models actually don't look that bad honestly, but how robotic the movements and how empty the backgrounds are it defiantly needs some work and no matter how good the gameplay is there is no way this will attract people who aren't really into fighting games
>Watched them fall to Pachinko
>They're attempting to get back into games
>No one cares because of graphics instead of gameplay
>SNK will die and people will complain despite the fact that it was by their doing.
What happened to "gameplay before graphix," /v/?
People bitching about the move from pixels to 3D models because they can't comprehend the fact that art takes money, time, and resources that SNK doesn't have after making some bad decisions regarding pachinko. Despite the fact that they want to make games again, people are going to just kill them off because "graphics."
The models aren't that great, but if you think that's PS2 tier then you have never played a PS2 game. As for the animations, I dunno. They look just as choppy as the previous KoF animations - going from pose to pose with like 1 frame of in-betweens. KoFXIII has good looking neutral stances and still sprites, but it's not a spectacularly well-animated game.
I'm still waiting to see actual gameplay and system mechanics and roster and stuff that matter, instead of crucifying it for not being Graphixxx enough.
if it is i couldn't see what the problem is, but from what they've shown is it seems like they're just trying to get the image of the game out as soon as possible to generate some sort of hype
stupid them though when people see a bad looking game they won't be hyped at all
should have just settled for a simple name teaser while uploading promotional art
Its kind of a weird thing.
Like on one hand people have asked for this title, but then we didnt ask for THIS.
I mean looking at the gameplay there it seems fine but something just feels off.
I think a lot of the people who are really angry with this game looking like a port of a mobile game are kof diehards that will end up buying this game in the end to support the series. But if you think that a trailer like OPs will get new people into the series or help sell games your pretty far off.
fuck 13 was a let down anyway trying to be all street fightery and shit
Game looks like Tekken
>once over a decade ago
Didn't they die recently and just got bought by the Chinese and OP's trailer will be their first game or something like that? Looks like they will die the 3rd time. Just please don't do that to Metal Slug, it already has a bad 3D game.
If it's an actually good game anyone who cares about fighting games would play it anyway but all we've seen so far are trailers that reveal a pretty extreme departure in art style and generally low quality visuals. There's nothing else to talk about.
>Swap to 3D models
>Still use choppy animations
>No transitional animation frames between moves to make things look more flowing
Cool flop bro.
Yeah I get that but not what I tried to say, the chink mmo fighting game looked better than this (it was a pc game and even had a KoF collab), but the new KoF looks really rough, I assume it started as a mobile game but somehow they realized that touch controls are a bad idea for this game
>mfw Xrd does this too but for some reason nobody calls it out on it
niggers you have 3D models you can animate on something other than 8s now you fucking jap gooks
at least they make some use of smears, but still.
>have gorgeous 3D models that somehow look like a still from an anime at any angle
>keep the game on a 2D plane at all times except for super moves and a brief camera-turn on KO
what was the fucking point, then.
That's so post with more insults than arguments.
It's like an animation composed solely out of keyframes. Even if this is an unfinished product, I"m not sure why they chose to showcase it given how negative of a reaction they already had at TGS.
If this is what they actually mean for the game to look like at release, well...
Maybe KOF should've stayed dead.
The game is set to release in 2016, so its not like they got a fuckton of time left anyways.
Is there anything more hilarious than dogs that ate bees
You must have brain issues if you think that this looks anything like SF4.
This is Maximum Impact 2. PS2 game from 10 years ago. I mean the hair is ridiculous but that was a design choice. What happened?
This is such a step down from KOF12.
I'm blown away at how bad this is.
Looks like an Xbox game.
I would have been much happier with a retooled KOFXIII with recycled characters and a couple new ones.
This is such a misstep.
The style, graphics, music, animations, everything looks bad. Doesn't SNK have some kind of quality control?
Xbox stuff looks almost better.
Its definitely better animated.
There is no true 3d but there are sprites that are traced from a 3d models. Same thing with BlazBlue. Those games got a lot of praise for their art direction but in all honesty, they are all animated like shit compared to vsav, skullgirls, 3s and other games that use proper animation techniques instead of shitty rotoscopy.
so is this going to be for smartphones only or...
are they just going to cancel it?
Nobody will play this game unless it's fucking free. This is garbage tier by any decade's standards.
>There was a time when SNK was a proud company
Yes, back when they were SNK. SNK failed and is now owned by a chinese corporation who swallowed them up as they were going bankrupt. They don't properly exist anymore.
I remember back in the early 2000's KoF was known as being "Street Fighter, but bigger and more aesthetically pleasing"
There's no artistry here. It's completely artless.
Compare what we have now to what we had.
What was that chinese fighting game that SNK were helping out with, that had a bunch of KOF and SF ripoff designs + Terry was a guest character in it? because that actually looks better than this
Tell me about the dead training stage of SFV. Because people will play in this shit in each fighting tournament for ever.
>mfw training stage isn't selectable outside of training
The animations look good.
But those fucking graphics and art style, holy fucking shit, my eyes.
Everything just looks like SNK rushing shit.
The models, lighting and animations look like a fucking budget or bad F2P PC game. Why not do some stylized 3D instead of this bland, half-assed shit? I'm not opposed to 3D when handled correctly.
>The animations look good.
No it's not. It's more like they are hiring interns to do the work with out any senior animator to guide them, you can clearly see the how stiff the hip, spines, and shoulders are.
How the fuck do I know? This is my field of business and this kind of practice is well known.
snk hasn't had near as much as practice with it compared to capcom most of there games have been 2d so right now the best i can hope is that they learn from this game hopefully make improvements on what ever game they release next
>snk hasn't had near as much as practice with it compared to capcom
SNK already had Fatal Fury and Samurai Shodown in 3D and claiming be to be the next best thing, while Capcom was timidly hiring another developer to make Street Fighter EX.
I wonder Shirinko feels about this.
Classic SNK staff loved what they did, in fact it's what killed them for the first time around 2000, placing quality above even trying to make a profit.
no they didn't. i can only think of a couple. capcom had far more.
the SNK 3d games are among the worst fighting games of all time, too, while capcom ones have always been good.
It's sad, there was a time SNK took criticism as a mean to improve.
Then again I think many Official Channels for developers have comments automaticaly disabled for all their videos.
I get it if it's fun. To be honest KOF had some ugly, inconsistent sprites around 99 until XII of course.
If people can accept SF going 3d they can accept this one too. At least kof doesn't have a strange artstyle(remember SF x Tekken? holy fuck)
What a sarcastic nigger.
I dont even disagree. The visuals barely matter, but if its that fucking clear that they half assed it and didnt put money into it I dont feel like paying the full retail 60€.
Make it budget priced.
His sarcasm might as well have been backfired, I completely agree with that.
Maybe some people have self-respect and believe a 2016 Console game shouldn't look like it was made for the PS2.
It's true that a fighting game is about gameplay and not graphics.
Still, it won't save KoF fromselling worse than XII amd XIII exactly because it looks like dogshit (being a PS4 exclusive won't help either).
Personally, as a long time KoF supporter, I simply miss 2D sprites. I won't hide the fact I won't buy it day one because of the change to 3D models. Maybe in the bargain bin three years from now, when I'll buy a cheap used PS4.
What would he even do, SNK didn't have Adelheid playable in XIII when he fucking should have, with his sister hosting the damn thing by being mind controlled all that, yet Adelheid took a backseat despite he strong enough to mop the floor with Those From the Past.
at this point im just happy we're getting a new kof but i already know this wont sell well because 1, the game isn't really popular outside of a few areas and 2, dick riders wont bother with it now because muh sprites (and as much as i would have loved kof 14 to have 2d sprites i've gotten over the fact that sprite based fighting games are on they way out since sf4 release)
Why do so many games look like shit on the PS4? Is it just a matter of not knowing the hardware yet or something? Even MGSV was super lacking considering the draw distance for plants/textures and shit, and there's a million games on the PS3 that look better than this. I don't get it, do developers think it's okay to pump this shit out when they're developing for hardware that's supposed to be way better than the previous console?
>i've gotten over the fact that sprite based fighting games are on they way out since sf4 release
The point is that those favoring 3D Fighters development are at least trying to make good looking experience, to do something that even some hardcore sprite fans won't feel all that mad about; Xrd being a great example of that transition.
KoF XIV on the other hand isn't even trying to impress, oh wait, succeeding to impress is the actual expression here because at TGS SNK actually thought this looked good.
So far it looks like an announced disaster like THPS5.
>Why do so many games look like shit on the PS4?
While some games do not even bother using the PS4's actual capabilities, taking KoF XIV as a general example is quite too much.
Arkham Knight is Man Face stravaganza, but shows what developers who actually try can do.
>there will never be an SNK vs. Capcom 2 using the 13 framework and style
>Tekken X Street Fighter will forever be stuck in a broom closet at Harada's studio
>there will never be a Fighters Megamix 2 where the super-secret boss is the Daytona horse wearing the Hornet as power armor
>Tekken X Street Fighter
Supposedly they're gonna release it when SFV reaches the peak of it's popularity. Like 1-2 years or so after SFV comes out. Being Tekkenized, they're gonna have to time it right after the blunder of SFxT
Reminder that Fallout 4 also have shit graphics and the game looks good and fun.
I see it as vastly inferior to the classic.
Xuandou zhi Wang
I hate this /ss/ image Chris got, he looked like a crazy motherfucker in 97, who is swole as fuck as Orochi.
Now he has been reduced to low tier fantasies.
Do I smell a Franchise Killer?
Sony doesn't need billions of dollars to pay an exclusive deal. They probably gave the right amount of money to make SNK exit the Pachinko market and make a quirky PS4 exclusive.
>KoF 11 comes out
>Everyone finds it fun and amazing
>Even no KoF fans jump in cause 11 is actually good
>Suddenly, SF4 does well
>"Looks like we need to go back to our roots, too :^)"
I don't get it. Just make another version of 11 and people will be happy again.
I like how I see some of you people complain about the choppy animations when that was part of the KOF series. It makes the gameplay fast and that's was KOF is. Why do you guys want it to be like another Maximum Impact? Gameplay looks fine, graphics don't, That's fucking it.
>tfw most of the people complaining about choppy animations are post-98 babies
Maybe I'd play this but I'll probably not consider this as part of the main KoF franchise.
Thanks Chinese, you merely zombie-fied the franchise, should've let it die at the hand of gooks.
Oh my god
It looks so shit
IT LOOKS SO FUCKING SHIT
OH GOD WHY
WHY IT LOOKS SO FUCKING SHIT
>spend an entire generation investing in new high res sprites
>takes a ton of effort and care
>finally the hard part is mostly done, much of the roster completed, can now begin adding new characters or picking the "non-classic" characters such as Vanessa, Adelheid, etc.
>immediately throw away all that work in favor of outsourced chinese slop
They have long as fuck legs.
I could stand it looking like tekken 5 and at least it won't be slow and clunky so we can BODY GA properly.
Might be an extremely long shot, but we might get the sports team back
It looks bad graphically but from the little we've seen i think it looks decent gameplay wise. I'm glad older characters like Chang are coming back makes me hope Heidern gets another shot.
>That slow as fuck SF4 gameplay
I wonder where all the old SNK devs are working now... this is just sad.
>I wonder where all the old SNK devs are working now... this is just sad.
It may be surprising for you, but they work at Dimps.
Same studio that developed SFIV and is now developing SFV.
>Tfw everything new you see or hear about this game twists your heart until it hurts
>No more colour customization
>No more Ganguro girls team
Yo seriously, I thought Tencent saved SNK? SNK even removed themselves from the Pachinko business just to show this crap?
Real talk though, would anyone actually buy KoFIV if they just reused the XIII assets or are you guys gonna say that they are lazy? Because for me, compared to this shit, I'd rather they just reuse the XIII assets.
And I'd rather they re-use sprites. XI or XIII, either one.
Because the game tires to be as 2D as possible.
>Why use 3D models then
They explained it themselves. Blazblue already does 2D sprites and they won't compete with themselves, plus 3D models are a easier to do.
He has blue hair
to contrast with Iori I guess, because he apparantly didn't do that well enough before
Adelheid and those two guys Kyo is shown fighting in the intro were supposed to be playable in 13 but were cut due to time constraints
>tfw its that new Kyo costume
>tfw it won't be his classic costume
>tfw we won't get George Clooney Kyo
Duke and Mignon are the only ones allowed to comeback.
If Lien, Alba, or Soiree are in this game (especially Soiree) I'll kill someone.
Chae was fine. She was just the girl version of Kim
>tfw no more lewd sprites like this.
Good bye SNK
gonna need to see some more delicious brown sprites anon
Doesn't look as bad as i expected.
Nonetheless with those graphics it better have a huge roster. Wish they had shown more characters already.
It looks ok but it's irritating because there isn't much of an excuse for it not to look better aside from laziness. Also the gameplay looks about as quick as any KOF. Eh, I know I'll enjoy it. Me and my brother played the crap out of maximum impact when we were kids and didn't know any better.
>expecting 3D KOF to not be lewd
there's the DM and the SDM. Maiden Masher is clearly the DM while the claw move looks like it will use more meter. And the one you posted is just an extension to the Maiden Masher DM.
But i want to see her now.
How long is SNK goinna take until revealing more characters? It took them months just to show Chang and Leona in motion and supposedly the game should be out in early 2016.
I feel the same.
XIV's Leona looks cute, but i want to be sure the devs won't fuck up the waifus.
Just so you know, they are going to have a playable version of it at the PlayStation event this December. We'll probably be learning a lot more after that. All we know right now is this: The game has Kyo, Leona, Iori, and Chang, and that the "battle system supervisor" for SFIV is working on it.
Her design was terrible in XIII, very slim and small, best Yuri was in AoF 2.
They made her super petite in 13, like Athena.
The originals were taller and looked more athletic.
By the looks of the trailers it copies the 2D gameplay of the titles before instead of MI's 3D movement so it's most likely to have teams.
What the lack of characters in the trailers tells us for sure is that the game will get delayed until at least mid 2016.
How long will it take SNK to reveal the new chucklefuck that throws flames around the first year as if he's the protagonist until Kyo comes in and drives the rest of the plot for the next two years?
Wanna give a source for that? Considering SNK needs to sell this game to stay alive, I'd be surprised if they didn't go full-retard and put the most popular characters in. That's the whole point of dream matches. I just hope you aren't right, as I only recently got into KoF and I love playing Vice.
IIRC Mature and Vice are still dead and their appearance in XIII was only their "ghosts".
Rugal said in KOF 95 that he will make a return I really hope that those Chinese people remember that.
>KOF games always had beautiful looking and animated hit sparks and special effects
>This shit looks like garbage
I hate to cry "I-IT'S JUST A BETA", but I really hope this is just some place holder shit.
>Yasuyuki Oda: We also received a variety of comments from fans there. KOF XIV is another new chapter after the Ash saga, so the character design also takes a long time for testing and discussion.
There's still not enough information and data to discuss. Just enough to get somewhat hyped.
Thanks, anon. Well, considering they brought back two or three people as "ghosts" connected to Iori, my hope for more Vice has returned.
>Producer’s favourite is KOF94
>Also, there is in “KOF ’94” the establishment of the characteristics of “characters that are unique in personalities”, “3on3 team battle” and the “System”; these things made the popularity of this series continue ever since.
3on3 team battles confirmed.
Maybe it won't have a new protagonist at all.
K' and Ash not managing to make Kyo drop the roster, and with Ash in particular being aboslutely hated by some, they might as well not even try with a "new arc protagonist".
Just give a new villain that gets interested in Kyo for whatever reason.
>Please don't tell you idiots are not serious when you say this
It at least looks like it'll play the same. I can sort of look past the graphics if it plays well and has a good roster.
The animations aren't terrible I guess but the style that KoF has doesn't lend itself well for 3D animations.
Chang and Choi are really popular in Japan because they're the exact type of lame comedy duos the Japanese love like you'd see on shitty Jap TV.
Still gives me hope they might go a little outside the box with the roster if they're bringing back Chang.
Well fuck, seeing how the visuals probably won't change much, if they even do, the only thing I expect is: NO FUCKING BAO.
It's basic math, Bao in = Kensou being shit.
Of course they matter, but given SNK's current situation after several years of financial struggling it's only natural to be more forgiving towards it, even more so when they recently quit the pachinko business and are giving KOF another chance, albeit with a low budget.
If Capcom or ArcSys did the same the outrage would be 100% justified.
That means Shingo & Chizuru have a good shot of getting in, that's cool.
>Producer’s favourite is KOF94
shit i hope team assist is back that was the best
or least you can see your teammates in the background reacting to the fight
and help you if you get dizzied
oh christ what a terrible shame. are sprite fighting games doomed to extinction?
It's a new saga. A new villain is guaranteed.
Ther are still a bunch of japanese fighting games that use sprites.
I think it looks ps2-ey because the characters are so clean and sterile.
They don't have to be Gears of war tier grunge and muted colors or anything, but in 2D kof, the sprites stand out enough for you to play, but also are harmonious with the levels.
KoF14 characters so far have that pretty boy glam look, which I guess is "typical Asian game".
Reminds me of final fantasy and vindictus.
Their clothing and skin just need to look a bit more worn, weathered and used. Right now they look like models, fresh out of some expensive clothing store, and even the levels look so shiny and polished.
>about to call you a faggot
>realize a console released in 2000 could get legit nostalgia, even if it's not allowed on /vr/
Frankly I'm waiting for indies to start looking like Dreamcast games.
Honestly, the models aren't that bad. It's just that the lighting is terrible. Their skin is lit like plastic. The tint is cold. There's lack of hue shift. Their eyes aren't reflective. There's no ambient occlusion...
They just need to light it better.
let's say you're right, at least they had the benefit of an organic aesthetic that hand-drawn sprites provide. now instead of rushed 2d sprites, we have rushed 3d models which looks infinitely worse.
i mean >>315367481 doesn't even look like kyo or iori
>they look like models
Kyo and Iori always were handsome (no homo).
You guys are either lying or never seen a PS2 game or Launch Xbox 360 title. Still the style of the game is garbage I will keep playing GG Xrd until someone realize that GG got the 2.5D thing right already.
>Honestly, the models aren't that bad.
Since everyone looks younger and Chang just escaped jail maybe this new saga will include time travelling fuckery (which wouldn't be too strange coming from Ash saga).
Would be a good excuse to bring back whatever characters they want without making it a dream match.
That dude worded wrongly, while always being handsome chaps, Kyo and Iori had these mild rough features to with, now they look like complete harmless pop idols, Kyo in particular looks like he got his entire face structure changed.
I have no problems with GG and its roster. In fact I loved GG Xrd. It was a fine compromise, you can always expand the game with more characters and the like but nailing down your style is far more important.
Chang uses a Jail Uniform because Kim couldn't succeed in keeping him in shape.
Leona looks straight out of the new design for XII/XIII
They look younger due visual effects failure, this is definitely after Tales of Ash, with source already provided in this page.
I disagree that the models aren't bad, but I totally agree that good lighting/shaders can cover almost all that shit up
see GGXrd, they put tons of work into the lighting and related aspects and it makes the otherwise standard models look fucking great
This is an early japanese 360 title.
You are just proving my point. Unless you are retarded you could see how and why what we got with XIV couldn't be done on a 360, even less early on.
But this is /v/ and we have to use hyperbole every single sentence to make our points.
The game still look like ass though, but is mostly due to the artistic vision of the game, 3D models will looks like shit.
Well it was the design they used for him in XII/XIII, which I thought that's what he was asking for. Didn't think it mattered where it came from
>You are just proving my point
What point? You have to be retarded to think it looks from PS2.
KofXIV looks slightly better than that, which is awful for a 2016 game. But PS2-like would be stretching it.
No that looks like Iori. He's just more j-pop than ever and lost his rugged features. I do like the effects they did on his pupils for neomax. He has his costume from this shinkiro art also.
I can agree on you that this game will age terribly aesthetically much like KOF 02 and the maximum impact series.
The bright side though is with these poor models is the way SNK can get a heads up against their competitors in Arcsys and Capcom. While they have very nice looking rotoscoped models like in GG and decentish ones in SF they take time to develop. KOF XIV can have a huge roster initially or by the time the years over in comparison to xrd and sfv.
I really don't care about aesthetics because KOF has always look poor in comparison to the other fighting games released at the time especially VSav and other SNK titles.
Right now I'm worried about the netcode because KOF 13's was absolutely trash and was the biggest reason why that game died.
lol SNK doesn't have money to create a vanity project like Arcsys. Guilty Gear XRD only exists because blazblue makes so much money.
Classic Kensou appeared twice in KOF before becoming his Main Design in XII.
- Classic Characters Team (Ralf, Clark and Athena) where he appears in their ending
- Striker Kensou
It seriously feels like there's some shaders that SNK forgot to turn on or something. These models have detail in weird places and then they lack detail every where else.
Well, KOF has almost always looked kinda ugly anyway. Even 13, with how the sprites didn't match the higher quality backgrounds, or how the body proportions were almost as fucked up as SF4's for some characters, or how female faces looked weird in general, etc. Give me some good gameplay and I'll be content.
Also Vice & Mature sticking around so that I can retain my edgelord team with Iori would be nice.
