The thing is for other open-world games you'd NEED noclip to go diagonally. FO4 has no interesting landmarks or huge road-turns that force you to back off in this direction and that's the only thing it shows
I don't particularly care to make a case for or against this game but if I remember correctly Fallout 3 had enemies spawn in greater numbers in the last arc of the story. It's not impossible that the wasteland becomes more littered as you progress.

This could easily be resolved by taking a FO1/2 approach and making smaller areas packed with more detail and hidden secrets, about 5 minutes walking across at least, and then switching to an overworld where you actually have to prepare for long journeys and procedural encounters.

Building off what >>315382984 said, it takes 14 mins to traverse Skyrim (including going over mountains) when Skyrim is a rectangular shape. We don't have a good frame of reference to really know F4 size on this basis.

No, everything was randomly generated at Bethesda and the game was shipped. Basically the fast travel system is required because it takes twenty minutes to walk a pixel on the map which is gigantic. The dungeons were also generated by Bethesda's generator.
So nothing is generated as you play or while the game installs or anything, it's the same for everyone. However pretty much nothing except maybe the city of Daggerfall and a few other major cities are not auto-generated. Quests are generated while you play, so you can get a quest to go pretty much in any dungeon which means the game has unlimited content so to speak since it takes about 2-3 hours to complete a big dungeon in the game.
Pic is of Wayrest, a rather small region east on the Daggerfall map. Every single pixel there is either a town or a dungeon. Red/Blue are towns, the orange ones are dungeons. If the pixel is very light red it's a very huge town, if the pixel is a very light orange it's a gigantic dungeon, and if it is very dark it is the opposite.

If they are going for a realistic style (which they are) Graphics are very important to immersion in a fps. It's incredibly annoying to be suffering seeing the same gamebryo shit tier assets and animations we've had for 6 years in a 'new' game.

I think the graphics and animation have improved though, especially compared to Fallout 3. It's not perfect but it is far from bad, and the crafting system looks good, I like the idea of making your own settlement. It's not GOTY but it's far from a complete blunder.

This is Bethesda we're talking about here, not Obsidian. The story is just going to be there as an excuse to be fucking aorund not a main attraction just like it was in FO3.
Gameplay is toned down, scaled back and simplified as ever, it's directly competing with fully modded New Vegas and FO3 in that respect it's going to lose, well at least until mod tools are out and modders have had at least a year to fuck around with them, but that's not for another 2 or so years so until that point FO4 won't be much to look at from a gameplay perspective.
FO4 is the first current gen game not hampered by being forced on 2006 hardware, and they've had plenty of time to pack it full of content to explore. A small map and lack luster visuals is rather disappointing considering the game really doesn't have much else going for it.
