>even after all the downward spiralling in recent years
>he's still the most watchable vidya youtuber by a decent margin
What's your favourite episode? The Spiderman one is probably mine, its easily the most memorable for me.
>tfw I'll always watch and support him because it reminds me of when I used to be happy and had my whole life ahead of me
If only The Crow episode wasn't used as a setup for the Board James finale to be honest
Spiderman, Ghostbusters trilogy, Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout, Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, Action 52 saga, Big Rigs/Desert Bus/Crazy Bus, Hong Kong 97, all of the hardware reviews and
Toxic Crusaders, just because of Uncle Lloydie even appearing on there at all
Intellevision & Colecovision?
2nd line is about Atari Jaguar (CD)
Off the top of my head, the ones that stick out to me the most are Sega 32x, Atari 5200, Ghostbusters pt 1, Wizard of Oz, Bible Games 1, TMNT NES. The Spiderman one is pretty good like you said, the clocks joke always gets me.
The general attitude towards him on /v/ is pretty depressing. I remember when there would be posts on /v/ excitedly reminding others of new episodes whenever they came out. Nowadays it's just constant shitposting, relentless "kek" and "just" maymays, and god knows what else.
His channel is certainly one of the only watchable game-related youtube channels, and is still downright entertaining. I don't understand exactly why people say he had a "downward spiral", or why no one says anything halfway towards positive about him anymore. I have no idea where all this "kek" shit came from, either. Although I'm sure half the 15-year-olds don't even know what the word means and are just spewing phrases for the sake of the bandwagon at this point. Is that all these posts are? Kids who liked him when they were 10, and now they are rebelling against everything they liked when they were younger, because they are so much older and more mature now?
Sure the movie was a bit shit but what the fuck did any of us expect? He's a youtube content maker with a hard on for games, not fucking Spielberg.
I just don't get it. I miss the old days. I hate new /v/.
I find it a little sad that he doesn't make episodes as often any more. He's only released like 4 episodes all this year which is only about half what he averages. Still I really enjoy his skits and hope he keeps doing them.
I think he has grown a little tired of the character. He (and Mike) are definitely focusing more on their Mondays gameplay videos now, which are definitely the best "Let's Plays" on youtube - actual editing, boring hit cutout, showing the footage, shots of them, and sometimes both together; it all goes a long way to make the videos genuinely enjoyable to watch.
I agree it's pretty sad he doesn't do the videos as frequently as he used to, but it's definitely not a downward spiral. And Board James has been awesome, too. Looking forward to the second "finale".
>currently learning japanese
>find out that almost all the AVGN episodes are on niconico
>watch old episodes occasionally and laugh at nico comments
But anon, he made a not so good movie where a black man kisses a white girl. What a fucking sjw! Let's spam the epic c uck meme until the underaged faggots who browse this toxic shithole shitposts all the threads with c uckposting. Because how dare he not be a bitter nazi like all of us supreme aryan /v/ermins, right?
Seriously, fuck this place.
They are pals. He has been credited as a "helper" on (I believe) every AVGN video. However, it's obvious that wasn't enough for him since now he's sharing the spotlight with James.
I still like his content, and watch every AVGN episode. It's just, this guy has been doing this shit for 10 years, I imagine it's difficult for him to keep things fresh while trying to please the existing fanbase. Which is why I love Board James, it feels much more creative like the older AVGN episodes. I'm sad he's going to end it though.
I used to love James but if I saw him today I'd honestly try to kill him just to put him out of his misery. He's like an old sick dog that you can't stand to see hurt any longer.
He hates being the nerd but that's all he's got and he has to keep playing the character to maintain a living. His movie, the one chance of him following his dream of being a real film maker, was a completely embarrassing disaster. He has a broken baby, his bitch wife walks all over him and the fact she's kekolding him is all but confirmed. He's balding.
I think he'd kill himself if not for the baby, but with his wife's reputation I doubt it's even his in the first place. I'd just tell him I'm sorry and put a bullet in the back of his head
>Not being an obese nazi is now being a sjw
No, fuck off you retard, I'm tired of seeing you stormfags shitting this place.
I don't like interracial relationships and have an angsty view on them, but the kiss scene and the whole kek meme get on my nerves, I don't think he deserves this.
My fav episode was either the Tiger Games one or the Atari Sports thing.
WHO THE FUCK IS JOHN MADDEN ANYWAYS
kek, it's funny that you got mad at this, I was actually testing to see if the filter was still working.
I'm sad that it doesn't become SPOOKY SCARY SKELETON any more, that was funny. Oh well, at least I still have kek baka desu and senpai.
You can see his passion in the Monster Madness episodes even if this years one was not as great as previous. I like the way the channel is currently going and moving away from the nerd, it's nice to listen to guys that mostly play retro games just talk about stuff with a lack of the cynicism that modern gaming culture on the internet has formed.
I thought Mike did all the costumed characters
His Hallowe'en episodes and console review 'sodes are always good. OP is right, he is very watchable. Aside from his obvious passion for gaming, his watchability probably comes from the fact that we're all in on the joke; he is irrationally angry. Modern Let's Players are doing "autistically angry" but forget about the joke part, it comes off as sad and maladjusted. DSP for one.
I've always wondered, but does James have some kind of sponsorship thing with Rolling Rock or something?
>Rant rant rant...
>*pauses, and awkwardly takes a drink from a bottle of Rolling Rock, with the label facing the camera*
>...rant rant rant
Then, in the Spider-Man episode, he stops drinking "that corporate shit", and starts drinking something else. Then, later on, I'm pretty sure Rolling Rock comes back. Was there a period of time where he wasn't being sponsored by them or something?
It's about what I expected. B movie with bad CGI that was basically an elongated AVGN episode.
I enjoyed the references to other shitty movies of his childhood like TMNT3 and the guy in the tank. Most of the generic dialogue was pretty bad.
I didn't even finish Monster Madness this year for that reason. I really don't like the "Let's put Mike in front of the camera, and just stream of conscious talk about a movie". He's much better when he's researched and scripted. Despite having been best friends their entire lives, they've still got kind of an awkward chemistry.
The Castlevania videos, when he did that 4 episode halloween thing.
can't wait for his christmas reviews, watch them every year
>He's much better when he's researched and scripted.
Yeah. The Descent episode was extra bad because it seemed neither watched the movie recently and were trying to remember what happened. They were both confused and trying to piece together the ending. It was awful.
I still liked this years MM(except for Descent) but I hope it goes back to its original format next year.
The only lets players I watch are AVGN and Arino-san.
They at least try to create a watchable show with some good historic info and console curiosities, I wish I can see Arino playing the first Shin Megami Tensei one day.
The best episodes of AVGN are the Castlevania special and any console review, plus I love his Kaiju movie reviews too. It's because of him I discover about Gamera and now he's 90s version is my favorite Kaiju monster.
I live near James and rolling rock is pretty huge in pennsylvania/new jersey area. Though yuengling remains the champ rolling rock is a cheaper alternative especially if you like paler beer
Early videos are great, but as the production value went up so did the cringe. His videos had a certain charm to them of someone wanting to make something, but not having the skills and equipment to do it. As he got better equipment and editing skills the acting got worse and his videos developed a certain shitty look to them that can only be described as "poser filmmaker". i.e. "I'm not good at making movies, but I'll spend some money to make it look like one."
It's because his new camera has this gross depth of field on it. He also doesn't have music in the background while he's talking on top of cutting to his face a little too much. Neither of those would be so annoying if the DoF wasn't so obnoxious.
>he's still the most watchable vidya youtuber by a decent margin
You clearly don't watch enough YTbers
I like avgn but lately all the episodes are just talking about the game with little else. No violence against the games or interesting other things going on.
Board James is so much more interesting lately. But I feel like its ending soon... Plus its a really confusing clusterfuck. Not in a bad way though.
It's not just that. It's the move from 4:3 and losing the overall "garbage" quality that he had. His videos looked like someone who was making a video to bitch about an old game would look. Now his videos just look like all the other "HD" shit on youtube yelling over gameplay. The acting also got so cringy at a point that I couldn't watch a full episode.
Daily reminder that his wife killed his dream movie
Monster Madness was complete fucking shit this year. Also his obsession with the shitty Universal monsters really limits what he can talk about since he can't go a fucking day without praising those awful movies.
I'm fond of the Terminator episodes, and the SwordQuest one, too.
His Action 52 review was hit or miss, and that's only because others did the game already, in a much more hands-on style. MPN1990, Armake and Cheetahman92 come to mind. Hong Kong '97 was a good recent one.
First Xmas special. Never forget getting the Wii and having a working Youtube on Opera being able to watch videos in my room, Wen't on a marathon of all the episodes at that time, and the moment I knew I was an AVGN fan was the moment the squirrel throws the rocks from the trees and knocks out the lion and the other one knocks himself out, with the instant replay. So fucking funny.
>Why arent they talking about the modern controversies regarding anime tits?
They focus largely on retro games while occasionally, I doubt they play the games you're thinking about
James has an overall good taster in horror movies, and I appreciate his fondness for older stuff and things like "It's better when the movie hides the monster" and so on
While I want to agree with you, I can't argue that Universal Monsters are actually kind of cool, even if the movies are kind of hard to sit through with their slower pacing. I think James' enthusiasm encouraged me to give them a shot at least.
Christopher Lee isn't the best Dracula ever put on screen
I always saw the post as her trying to branch out to more audiences by diversifying content, and probably get some girls to watch it.
of course "diversity" is a bad word on neo-/v/ so this shit gets dredged up every AVGN thread
