What is the best looking game you've ever played?
probably TW3 on a mix of high/ultra settings.
Project CARS can be very pretty too. I'd rank MGS TP/GZ below the two.
It looks good in certain areas, others not so much.
When less than 10% of the second map looks like absolute garbage, then it's hard to give it a break.
Maybe it was just because it was a multi-generation release, but the game falls flat with visuals in a lot of places.
Grey colour pallets can look great if the game has a grounded setting in the right place (Killzone especially), but from what I saw Ryse was all over the place.
The forests just look weird when there's a grey filter over it.
I'll give you Witcher 3 though, they really fucking dropped the ball there.
Downsample if you can, it looks great. The game just looks undersaturated after you try it out.
oh yeah i know, i played it maxed out on pc, still looks like a fucking last gen game
>c u c k
>no you're a bait
>you're literally retarded
>last gen confirmed
>your post is bait
>you're a shitposter
/v/ is fucking shit. can't have an actual discussion because of how shit you all are. no wonder nobody likes this fucking place.
Come on mate, Africa just looks plain bad.
No other way to say it.
MGS 5 is pretty, but it's clearly a PS3/360 game when you start examining the details. The geometry and texture resolution are lower than they should be.
The artists and tech guy worked together well though. They did a damn good job of using physics based rendering and good lighting to make surfaces look detailed from a distance and then the art team did a good job budgeting their polygons.
Another game that did this well was Half Life 2 back in the day. That's why screenshots of it today still look decent. The art team knew their polygon and texture budget and used them well.
Most of the time games don't do this. Just look at Fallout 4. The game clearly has PS3/360 level geometries and textures with a smattering of PBR based surfaces and a lot of post processing to smear the screen in what just looks like blurry shit. The result is hilariously inconsistent visuals.
>linus tech tips
>he thinks his opinions matter
While the graphics weren't perfect, Witcher 3 had soem breathtaking moments. Definitely best graphics this year.
I have to admit that battlefront looks quite nice, phantom pain didn't really do much for me especially night time in Africa was absolutely terrible.
also witcher3 with sone tweaks is really nice. but there isn't anything very revolutionary these days to be honest, maybe i just expect to much.
What are we talking about here?
Photorealism? Art style?
Anyone got a smoother version of this?
I can't fap to a slideshow
Probably Unity. It had some of the best lighting I've ever seen in a game.
Mirror's Edge is a good case of what prebaked shadows and global illumination can do. DICE also did a good job working with the artists to manage the polygon count well.
Sadly that prebaking of the shadows and global illumination doesn't scale well to any sort of a dynamic time of day or even situations where they need to change the light in a scene drastically.
Not really. You can manipulate your position and the camera to catch the game at its worst, in most games. However 99.9% of the time, you're not looking far enough into the land for the render distance to cut off.
It's effectively one the best looking and aesthetically pleasing games I have played in a long time.
Alien Isolation, hands down.
>Fuck you I liked CA in this game.
Oh god I hate ENB so much. Just downsample and you'll have good results, this shit looks ugly as fuck
What game had better graphics this year?
Dunno about that. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't
The problem with modded Skyrim is that it doesn't look that good while you're actually playing it. Modded textures are naturally inconsistent, and ENB look like the screen was smeared with vaseline
Why was Unity the only next-gen game that actually did smoke?
why would you fap to a clothed webm of someone running?
i would literally not be able to cum
Gameplay was shit. Artstyle was amazing
Who shat down your chimney?
Have you seen how bland the base game looks?
No I can't agree with this
no vaseline on my screen
The game looks like a fucking cartoon on the bottom image. God dammit CDPR what the fuck.
The worst part about it is that fucking horrible color pallet. Everything has gone to shit but the colors hurt the most
>Salty Sam doesn't like ENB
>ENB is a disservice
>doesn't know it's all about go subtle or go home
Fucking shit that looks cozy as hell.
If only Skyrim (I assume) wasn't made on gamebryo, maybe it wouldn't take a NASA supercomputer to run all the improved texture / foliage / flora / fauna / mesh mods.
I really enjoyed TPP graphically like that, because of the graphics you get for the framerate. I was amazed at the smoothness of it.
I agree, 10% of that map looks good.
The rest? Hot trash.
I don't think there's much you could do with an open world taking place in a savannah mind you. It's incredibly unreasonable to expect a title like that to somehow render 10 km of flatlands to stop it from looking bad.
Still kind of their fault for baiting everyone with the shinier version in the first place.
Say what you want about Bethesda, but the way they handle reveals is the best. Showing their game off half a year before release, so nobody gets their hopes up.
CDProjekt RED essentially showed off how rickety the development was through trailers. I mean, who the hell would expect that fur physics and Fully Lit particles would run on consoles in the first place, then design and show off a game with it? Come on.
To get the good graphics from the game it has to be at the right time of day, it has to be at street level and it has to be away from water.
Here's a screenshot I took at the wrong time of day and it doesn't look very good.
The interiors of the game generally look good during the daytime as well I will admit.
To be honest TPP has very good textures and models but its lighting is kinda shit.
Sure, character shadows are good but a lot of lights are static, like vehicle headlights, and shit like Grass doesn't even have a shadow or anything.
Something just looks wrong about that. The light is too bright and the trees look soft and unrealistic
You ever seen the photorealism shot?
Spooky as FUCK
Either Unity or Battlefront
Some interiors in Unity are photorealistic as fuck.
Wish I knew about the hide UI button earlier
I thought that was also really good, but also another thing I hated was the massive blur filter in the game, in some areas it just felt obnoxious as hell. The lens flare was actually not as bad as I thought it would be, in GZ it seemed like it was everywhere.
I just kinda wish the lighting was a little more dynamic.
Witcher 3, looks excellent with no mods.
Stakado Cinemascope ENB. You're looking for the Independent ENB, it's in this download (see pic related)
Other than that, I kid you not, just install all the basic water and folage mods found in the Top Files on the Nexus.
Simple as fuck, big change.
>AC Unity blows Witcher 3 out of the water
Looks like ass to me.
I don't mind the water, and I haven't seen much better.
Seriously cannot be fucked going in and editing every batch of water desu senpai
One of the free DLC ones. I've forgotten the name but you get it on Skellige.
Comes with matching horse gear too.
MGSV suffered from being a inter-gen game, but damn, the lightning is god-tier.
If only they released mod tools to improve the textures, add native AA and add custom missions, would be GOAT.
B-bu-but it makes me sad.
Happy to help
Really impressed with W3; considering it's the studios 3rd game.
OP's screenshot looks miles better then anything that you people have posted.
You obviously have some grudge against the downgrade posters from 6 months ago, and feel the need to post the same screenshots over and over again whenever humanly possible.
Nobody wants your shit, get over it.
>people actually think it looks good
The environment textures are absolute dogshit. The only things that look good are the character models.
>99.9% of the time, you're not looking far enough into the land for the render distance to cut off.
You get pop in barely 20 meters away from your character. Looking through your binoculars causes massive pop in of objects too.
It's using Reshade.
Considering its the best overall looking game in the past 5 years, you're wrong
No, the environment textures aren't 'absolute dogshit,' they're mediocre. Fuck off, everything's either one end of the spectrum or another. I'm so sick of all the hyperbole everywhere, converse like a normal human being you fucking guttershit.
>What is the best looking game you've ever played?
the first wave of skyrim ENB presets was so awful, everything tried to have as many filters and effects enabled as possible and everything was either oversaturated or sepia. happy that we got some more toned down ones eventually
>everything's either one end of the spectrum or another.
Is this your first time here? If you can't discern between hyperbole and someone being literal, you might have autism.
>converse like a normal human being you fucking guttershit.
Sweet irony you got there bro.
You said that the shot was showing off the good lighting. I'm simply clarifying that it is not the game's lighting that makes that shot better looking than other MGSV shots, it's Reshade.
Screenshots are not really a good way to see if the game looks good or bad. You can find for that one perfect spot with perfect conditions to make a game look incredible or incredibly horrible. Skyrim is a perfect example of this. With enough mods, you can take some insanely good looking screenshots but we all know the game doesn't look that good when you keep playing it for a while.
You all know this.
>"I was only pretending"
I know it's hard to discuss like a human being, but at least apply yourself
Eh, modded Skyrim actually looks really great 90% of the time. Even distant lod is acceptable thanks to dyndolod. The wonky animations is dragging it down if anything.
This, I've easily taken 1000 screenshots and I never do that. The smoothness, the animations, the lighting, the fantastic art design, the gorgeous landscapes - the whole game is just beautiful. Not even shillin. Just wish there was a third area/chapter 3
Not entirely sure, but The Witcher 3 was the most demanding game I played.
It looks extremely good even on low settings like I use.
Either that or Skyrim with all the 4k textures and ENB
Sure, the graphics are undoubtedly beautiful, but with some many different mods and texture packs, everything looks kinda inconsistent. For example, the landscape around Whiterun looks incredible for me but when I enter the city itself, it gets kinda underwhelming...
It's not just FOX Engine. Most console games make the choice of optimization to many different objects from shadowmap generation. It is tied to transparency, in that it is far more expensive to calculate the shadowmap of things like foliage, hair, etc than it is low poly, opaque objects.
Fuck me I am still hurting over this one. I have the game on my PS4, really need to back it up to an external device for redundancy. I don't trust console hard drives. Or any hardware in a console for that matter. They use the cheapest option possible.
>things that never happened
Anon, are you ok?
Man, fuck you guys and your filters. Professional art directors are better than you at making aesthetically pleasing graphics 99% of the time. Stop with your piss filters.
unless this is the game unmodded. haven't played. no judgies pls
I have a GTX980 rig.
Until Dawn and Bloodborne. Both have shit framerate, but their asset quality is immaculate and far beyond what I've seen in any game on my PC.
Witcher 3 is massively inconsistant with low res all sorts of shit everywhere.
>probably TW3 on a mix of high/ultra settings.
eh, it's up there but it's too inconsistent to be 'the best' imo. It looks like washed out street trash sometimes.
I know it's not the best, but TTP is the first thing that always pops into my mind now when that question is asked.
>calls someone a guttershit
>tells others to act like discuss like human beings
it might be a little dated and off everyone's radar now, but Mafia 2 is still fucking awesome-looking, and with graphics mods it's a real gem
wish i had more arkhamfu webms/pics
not even close tbqh
too bad I can't run it past 30 fps
>its hilarious that it takes 4g or texture memory on pc
It's not really that funny. the games textures are generally good and there are a lot of them that need to be streamed in. The game takes up massive amounts of hard drive space due to this. (like 60GB on PS4/One and probably closer to 70GB on PC)
It didn't, but the default nighttime missions looked good thanks to heavy rain and darkness
man clothing looks good in this
in other news i'll never get bored of posting this pic of elise's back, it just looks so good
I wish I had it in higher res
the game just has extremely high quality models.
every things else, textures, and especially LOD are terrible
the game also runs like shit on high end PCs
I've played witcher 3 on mixtures of highest settings and medium AA. At the highest it doesn't look impressive at all, I don't get the praise it gets, it looks like brush stroke filters for every plantlife in the game + n64 paper look to it. Feels like people telling everyone the earth is flat
I am almost certain it's just marketers saying it looks good
Modded skyrim, gta v and even dark souls 2 looks better than witcher 3 to me, by a lot
Kek, no, Bam Ham still has all the ugly issues of most UE3 games.
While Destiny sure does have it's drawbacks, I personally think it's beautiful. The atmosphere in the old russian Cosmodrome is just amazing. All those rusted vehicles, leaking old pipes, overgrown industrial buildings... Graphically it's obviously being held back by the fact that it had to be released for ps3 and 360 too which was retarded as fuck.
If only it was on PC too...
I see nothing wrong with your pic tho
>These recent games are showing just how important lighting is.
Exactly, model detail and textures didn't evolved a lot in the past years but man they are learning how to do lighting
When i got to Kaer Morhen my heart felt heavy because
1. Its geralt childhood place
2. The ending of the game is near
i was afraid of feeling the way i feel now... will there ever be another great game like the witcher 3 ?
witcher 3 doesn't even look that good, I don't know why it keeps getting posted over and over
looking at this someone posted as an example of a good looking game
The buildings looked pretty fantastic too. ACU is probably the most graphically advanced game to come out, but Ubisoft (like everyone else) bought into the console lies about being "next gen" (as opposed to enhanced last gen) and they ate shit when nothing but PC could actually run it.
And exploring it too, the Witcher installations around, using the lantern there and understanding the shit that went down in those places. I wish we had some childhood Geralt flashbacks
You mean aside from the blurry, mediocre shadow maps, meh textures, and generally unimpressive graphics?
Honestly, even KF2 is more impressive than BamHam.
Does Bam Ham even have SSR?
It's amazing what a colour palette change and a higher camera angle can do to ruin a game. Skellige looks fucking amazing at times, I don't get why they had to fuck Velen so hard after the gameplay we saw in it.
why cant we get more cyberpunk games anymore?
>Boy that's a fair metric to judge a game against
Fine. Vanilla Gta V, Vanilla MGS V, Vanilla Dark Souls 2, all look much better than Witcher 3 does to me by far. I would also add Dark Souls 1 but you have to mod it a little to unlock some res/frame options
Muramasa The Demon Blade is definitely the best looking 2D game I have played.
Since we're talking about graphics in this thread, I can assume there aren't any consolefags here. Now just between us, I really, really wanna play this game. I've heard so much bad things about Destiny, but it just looks like so much fun! And the lore sounds amazing too. I hope they'll port it to pc sooner or later.
Just booted it up. Looks nice but there's still better out there. Much better
It kind of was. If by cyberpunk you mean neo-tokyo shit then you can only do so much with signage and buildings. I would just be happy with more rainy city environments as where I'm from it rarely rains and I love the rain.
>You still haven't posted a single screenshot that wasn't modded.
This is vanilla, do you consider higher resolution set by the in-game menu "modding"?
Runs at 60fps, to boot.
>but it just looks like so much fun!
It's ok, I guess. Not much variety though and the grinding is atrocious.
>And the lore sounds amazing too.
It's not. Story and a lot of the better lore were cut and reworked like a year before release. Thanks Bungie, fucking fags.
The new hitman looks okay. Not even on highest settings, cause it runs like ass.
>blurry, mediocre shadow maps, meh textures, and generally unimpressive graphics?
Screens i'm posting are from PS4. Feel free to post some PC ultra shots with the grain filter off.
It's literally not cyberpunk, though. There's no elements of future technology outside the barebones concept of the setting. Every element of the game is "GET OUTTA MY COUNTRY" Sieth Effricens Vs. "DINDUNUFFIN" Shitskins on a shitty artificial island.
There's no tech. There's no future shit. It's just Poverty War: the boring shooter.
I read some of the grimoire cards online and it sounds pretty amazing. The Vex are probably one the best written enemies in any video game I can recall. Is none of that lore in the game then?
I don't know what you're trying to prove by blatantly lying like this. Literally everyone that has played DS2 on PC knows GeDoSaTo exists.
Are you retarded enough to think people don't know who Durante is?
I already did, see >>315573394
TW3 is the best looking game of all time sorry
ACU has better interiors though
got some screens too
Can you take a few screenshot of Africa? I want to know how it looks with the E3 shade before I install it.
It looks like mediocre.
For comparison, here's Batman AO on my old HD 5770, which is literally less than 1/4 the power of my current GPU.
>I don't know what you're trying to prove by blatantly lying like this.
Your card is probably just not capable of playing it at 4k, so the option doesn't show up for you, you retard.
post some exterior shots if you have any
>These recent games are showing just how important lighting is.
which is also why I think Witcher 3 doesn't belong in this thread. When it comes to lighting it just falls compared to a lot of the other contenders.
I love w3 and all, and it's probably my GOTY but you fucks are deluded.
You're right, but not much better.
Asset quality is still generally on the same level.
Textures are just as bad.
Really, the biggest improvements are post-FX (garbage), and character models/physics.
I really gotta wonder if some people are blind in this thread
you cherrypicked a "bad" image of arkham knight and cherrypicked a "good" image of Arkham Origins yet the Knight screenshot still looks better in everything from lighting, details and textures
>you cherrypicked a "bad" image of arkham knight and cherrypicked a "good" image of Arkham Origins yet the Knight screenshot still looks better in everything from lighting, details and textures
I didn't cherrypick anything, I just posted what I have.
Notice how the shadows in >>315575749 look comparable to the shadows in >>315573394, arguably higher res.
Again, I admit that models and effects are better, but everything else is so close that it really doesn't make much of a difference.
what you mean there's more of it? The lighting is different in different rooms, here's the problem for your cherypicking you pick well lit rooms for your arkham origins picture and dark lit rooms arkham knight and somehow think if the picture is darker, that means its worse
>what you mean there's more of it?
More of what?
What the hell are you talking about?
>The lighting is different in different rooms
Right, but the shadows are roughly the same, even in different lighting conditions.
>here's the problem for your cherypicking you pick well lit rooms for your arkham origins picture
Again, not cherrypicking, they're the images I have.
If you've got more appropriate ones, post them.
I have a 970 memecard and just DSR through that. I don't have or use "gedosato". Looks too complicated.
Don't know why you're not willing to believe it, but whatever man you sound dumb.
chrome shows the full 4k res option https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyK-gYeRSOc
Youtube sucks at playing back 4k for me
you think you could do me a favor?
could you travel to this area and take a screenshot from the cliff?
I really would like to know how that area looks with your setup, I'll post the actual vista in my next post.
I know, a tropical theme would have been ridiculously good looking
this is the shot (notice the big rock in the middle)
In my opinion, this is the shittiest vista in the entire game, I would be extremely grateful if you could show me how this looks on your machine.
I don't know why you keep trying. Dark Souls 2 does not feature bokeh dof and can only have it through GeDoSaTo or reshade.
What's the point of lying like this? Are you actually insane?
Looks, runs, and plays better.
There are console games being posted all over this thread. I'm serious, the game looks good. The amount of detail put into environments is impressive, though the environments themselves are small as fuck. Lighting, textures and animations are great.
Deferred rendering doesn't handle transparency (glass, hair) well so it is rendered separately in a forward rendering pass. As such it doesn't get lighting/shadows applied in the same way as other surfaces.
Generally it has to have its own lighting pass altogether.
I don't really care for graphics and I'm happy with my PS3 as my main gaming platform, but I have to say Darksiders 2 is probably the most aesthetically pleasing artstyle/execution I have seen yet, probably.
There's also the issue where you keep saying the pictures look good when they in fact, do not.
>people who post MSG V or Witcher 3
I suspect redditors who just built their first PC and subscribed to PC masterrace
both those games look like consolize PS4 graphics
But Bamham is a poorly optimized turd anyways.
I don't think I got the right angle.
Is this okay anon?
>but Bloodborne has really good graphics
God no, Bloodborne has terrible visuals.
I hate that DaS 3 is going to be using that same shitty style.
>W3 fans having to try to convince others that W3 looks good instead of it being unanimous and agreed upon
>That one fag who keeps posting screens ignoring the n64 turnstile trees and plants
>Games made years ago still look better
>Changing the resolution is a "mod"
Aesthetically? Deus Ex HR, I really liked the amount of detail and how things looked in that game, including the piss filter
Graphic-wise? Probably Metro 2033, closely followed by Crysis, still. Maybe an honorable mention to TW2? I really didn't like all the filters.
>A PS4 game is vastly superior visually to a bunch of PS3 games
I only wanted to see how the trees looked in the distance.
Sadly, they don't look much better. This is the only part that completely let me down about the graphics, speaking of the rest, the savanna at ground level, the deep jungle, everything else looked so good.
The point is, the game has good graphics, from an objective standpoint. I meant compared to the time it was released, the other Souls games had outdated graphics, but BB is very up to date.
I'm glad you could see the brighter side of life, anon.
No, from an objective standpoint it's pretty mediocre.
>Low res textures
>Mediocre bump mapping
>Materials look like an UE3 game
And the game was released this year, are you retarded?
Comparing it to PS3 games just makes you look even more retarded.
It's textures are fine, and so is the lighting. You're just spewing buzzwords so you can look like you know what you are talking about.
>comparing it to PS3 games
can you read? I specifically said the PS3 games were more behind other things that came out at the same time than Bloodborne is now. Are you autistic?
In terms of consistently looking good and not just in certain places, games like Journey are king.
