i remember the etrian series making some noise a while back on /v/. Why havent I seen threads about the latest one? is it bad?
This one is a mystery dungeon spinoff. I'm guessing it's not that great since I really haven't seen anyone talking about it. The last actual (non-spinoff, non-remake) EO game was EOIV back in 2013.
All Etrian discussion just completely died out of this thread isn't an indication. The general is dead and kept alive by the same autists posting the same shit every thread, and EOV news is nowhere to be seen despite being announced over a year ago
It's a spinoff in the Mystery Dungeon style of game rather than the traditional dungeon crawling with turn-based combat that the other Etrian Odysseys have. Also, yeah, it's kind of a meh game with too many bugs.
It sucks because the Untold games could have been really good if they didn't constantly fuck up huge on one or two aspects each time. The first was forcing story mode for the bonus content, and the second just fucked up all of the balancing for FOEs and bosses due to the Fafnir OC being way too OP. They even improved the story mode for the second one, but the party is just too ridiculously strong that it's not even fun, specifically the Fafnir Knight. Plus his arm looks dumb.
>and the second just fucked up all of the balancing for FOEs and bosses due to the Fafnir OC being way too OP.
It amazes me that people still believe this long after the game has been out
Because this forum its filled with people who cant enjoy anything. Good luck trying to get this thread going before the "Untold ruined the series faggots" come running
That's nice of you to suggest that, but I've been playing on hard mode the entire time. I like normal encounters, but FOEs are just a pain to deal with even if they're on my level or below due to being HP sponges in EOU2.
>announced a year ago
>still fucking nothing
>teased, revealed, and trailer shown all in a couple of days
I liked Mystery Dungeon until I started trying to farm DOE and postgame boss drops.
Is EO4 good? I had 3 but it was so fucking hard,I heard EO4 has a difficulty setting so a scrub like me could learn to play. Just wondering if it's worth picking up. Inb4 git gud, that's what I want to do
>thinking of replacing mine with a third fortress
are there people actually this casual? Gimmick builds like 5 nightseekers are fine, but holy shit you don't need more than 1 fortress
EO4 is good but the dungeons are halved compared to previous games. The bosses are the best in the series. Ignore Untold once you play it, it is a complete drop in quality. Untold 2 is fine if you do hard mode
I really enjoyed Etrian Mystery Dungeon. it's the only Mystery Dungeon game I've played, but I feel like it Etrian Odyssey fits the Mystery Dungeon style well, since it's already a dungeon crawling series.
Untold 2 was a lot better than 1. The story was better, the characters were likable.
There's been no news on EOV since this time last year. All we have is the teaser, no date or even platform yet.
Cool, I guess I'll try 4 out sometime soon and If I like It I'll try to go back and beat 3 after all these years. I bought the art book for 3 and everything, looks right up my alley, but I just got my ass kicked repeatedly and gave up
So what's so bad about the Untold games? Don't they still have the original story-less mode pretty much making them the definitive version? I'm legitimately curious because I never got to play the original EOII and was considering getting Untold 2 when it comes out in Europe.
Also how's Etrian Mystery Dungeon, the only experience with Mystery Dungeon games that I have is from playing a bit of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team, and I enjoyed it from the little that I played of it.
Yes. From the start you can play Story or Classic. Completing story first unlocks 2 of the included classes for Classic mode.
Thankfully, in Untold 2, they added 8 save slots, so you can at least play either whenever you want without losing the save to the prior.
>Going back to Untold 1's grimoires system after Untold 2
The only things considered bad about them are the optional grimoire system and how untold 1's classic mode doesn't let you use the gunner and highlander unless you beat the game.
Other than that, they're better in every single way.
It's just hsit posting from EO4 worshiping fags, even though EO4 in my opinion is the worst of series: only difficulty options being "brain dead" and "why even", only half the content campared every other EO, and absolutely terrible dungeon design save for the 6th stratum.
In short you should only play EO4 if you've never played an EO game before.
I heard Etrian Mystery Dungeon is buggy as fuck, and the Untold series being casual as fuck due to Grimorire abuse and shit. I've played EO4, and it was a pretty big step down from EO3.
Just play/replay EO3. Save yourself the torment of witnessing the story modes in Untold.
Do listen to the music though, that shit's baller.
>retarded AI. Party members will constantly get separated from the group, run around like headless chickens if the character you control steps on a teleport trap, will sit there and do nothing when in hallways, will interrupt the action every turn by trying to use items unless you turn that option off, and will burn through TP unless you switch their skills off.
>you have to grind materials for gear, unlike regular EO you have to do this for every single piece you buy, where in EO that was only the case for the best equipment available
>god have mercy on your soul should you die with said equipment on, since you will lose it
>quests that require certain drops can take up hours because of the horrendous RNG
>DOEs being random spawns
>the nightmare that is trying to get 100% completion.
>Head towards a DOE on the map
>It's a Pooka
So do you not make your own party in EMD? Just find randomly generated assholes in dungeons?
You can make your own characters. There's just generic NPCs wandering around from time to time.
Untold 2 has fantastic gameplay as long as you're on expert. Classic mode is great too as you have 13 classes to pick from at the start of the game or 14 if you buy the highlander DLC that was free when the game first released.
I'll give you that one. Good thing for the 10 round based burst skill that allows full control. Full control only good in Bosses and DOE. AI isnt THAT retarded. Last I checked they only run around when the player is separated or if something blocks them off.
