Nobody was really talking about it anymore, until Sony came out with the 4th game announcement and the money-grabbing trilogy, but I guess that now it's the moment to seriously talk about the Uncharted games.
I personally think that they're fuckin' overrated, I mean, I'm not saying that they're that bad, but they're just average TPSs, pumped up with AAA graphics and cinematic cutscenes to cover up the poor gameplay that's at the core of them.
Nevertheless, gaming reviewers (maybe with a little help from $ony's cash) praised them as masterpieces, as if they were something unique and revolutionary. Expecially Uncharted 3 (which imo is the worst of all) has been critically hyper-acclaimed, although it's nothing special, as I said before just a mediocre TPS (1 and 2 are average/nice imo) with also too much QTEs.
Don't you also think that this saga got too much praise for what it's worth?
It's objective that Uncharted did not bring anything new to its genre, neither did it master it's standards. For example you can't say the first Gears of War is just a mediocre TPS, cause it introduced elements which revolutionised the genre
I wasn't saying that it's crap just because no one was talking about it, you brogre, I just was saying that now that people's talking again about it it's the right time to discuss about it
>but they're just average TPSs, pumped up with AAA graphics and cinematic cutscenes to cover up the poor gameplay that's at the core of them.
That has been the consensus on this site ever since they made the first game.
The only difference is that /v/ got tons of new users here over the course of the last gen that love to eat up AAA shit.
There are people defending Assassins Creed now.
We have CoD threads up RIGHT NOW.
I mean, IGN and other shitty sites may even talk good about it, but who cares, people with a brain knows that all of these AAA titles are over-hyped and overrated.
funny how even on 4chan there's people who feels butthurt for hearing the truth about this kind of games
>not the best TPS and best online TPS on PS3
>not the best TPS and best online TPS on 360
>U2 and GeoW2
>not the best 7th gen TPSs
Nope, I loved them. They were nice Indiana Jones styled adventures with some great voice acting and terrific environments. Not the greatest games ever, sure but certainly a pleasure to play through.
We need to start separating games from toys. A game is something you can loose and requires strategy to win. A toy is something you take out of the box to have fun. Uncharted, Mass Effect, the Batman games and the like are all toys, not games - you can't loose in any of those and neither need a lot of strategy. You just go and play with it.
Can someone explain to me why people consider something being overrated to be such a big deal?
If you get down to it overrated means a subjective perception of the subjective perception of a group of people and does in no way has any meaning about the actual quality of the thing you think is "overrated" since it still can be good just not as good as your perceived opinion about how good you think others think it is.
>Only Vanquish. Last of Us is more of a stealth action game than a full third person shooter, Just Cause 3 isn't out but Just Cause 2 had massive problems with bland missions
I meant JC2, it was a typo. The game had great combat and movement abilities and also had many great missions, although the stronghold capture ones were kinda repetitive.
You can play most of TLoU as a shooter, and it also has way better combat mechanics and enemy variety than Uncharted.
Butthurt pctards wishing they had devs with even a fraction of the talent Naughty Dog has bringing out high profile exclusives for their portstation.
I'd be mad if they were still making games like crash but no.
I have a ps3 anyway so I got to see how average TLOU and unchartered were.
The only Ps4 im sad about not having at the moment is bloodborne :'(
I'm the OP, and I have a PS3 since 2008. If I say this it's because I played both Uncharted and TLOU and I objectively recognize that they're average games. ND was skilled? Maybe in the past (more for Jak and Daxter though, I never really liked CB although Crash 2 and 3 are good games), now they make average games which are just pumped up by their AAA graphics. To admit it is not being a "Sony hater" (I've got PS3 and also a Vita, and I'll get a PS4 when I have the money for Bloodborne and few other exclusives), is just being intellectually honest.
Uncharted 2 deserves all the praise in the world. I doubt any of the other Uncharted games will get near it in quality. Its only flaw, in my opinion, was how impotent the guns felt. Other than that the game is perfect for what it was trying to be.
I am still under the impression that U2 has the best pacing for any video game.
>Vanquish rocks, TLOU is as overrated as Unchee
TLoU > Vanquish > > > GoW > Uncharted
Vanquish had some of the best combat in any TPS but it had very poor pacing, the setting and characters were also fairly dull. The Last of Us also has some really good multiplayer.
Was comparing it more with TLoU which has better pacing, albeit it gets too quiet for some people.
Vanquish has nothing but relentless action, which necessarily gets dull due to overexposure to it.
The Uncharted Series is the closest any adventure game has got to the feel indiana jones film style, i.e pacing story plot, action romance comedy Tomb Raider borrows many elements from indiana jones but is a game through and through which isn't to say it's a bad thing early games were good based on gamelplay elements, puzzles platforming and action when needed. I would have to say Uncharted is the closest a game has got to being cinematic as a movie, which is good and bad.
We can all agree Uncharted 2 and Pre patch/Beta Uncharted 3 multiplayer was great, right?
