Sooner or later you'll run out of those locations though. And then you either start doing original content for the landmarks, or recycle the same locations over and over again.
And IMO it'd be a refreshing change to get a location not as instantly recognizable for once. Games are always doing NY, LA etc., give me some anonymous small towns that're the real heart of America, instead.
Denver's salvageable in its current state, but in the long run I think they'll quietly retcon dogpocalypse. Most of their current audience isn't even aware and the area's too interesting to shitcan.

It lacks the history of places like D.C. and Boston, and I can't think of some immediately identifiable cultural tick like Vegas had.

I think a cool premise for a Fallout game would be a game set 100 years after Tactics, where you travel to the mid-west only to find that it's completely barren of the Brotherhood of Steel.

When you're wearing power armor, or any good armor, the ability of piddling enemies and animals to damage you should become 0 so you can effortlessly kick the shit out of them at 0 risk to yourself unless they score a critical. So that means, among other things, 9mm and 10mm submachine guns, the things that fuck up low-level characters hard, should not be effective against you.
DT didn't reduce damage to 0 in NV, it was capped at 20%.
Lowering the cap only breaks the balance of the game because then you become immune to the shitty weapons 90% of the populace logically has.
The purpose of armor in a video game is to reduce damage taken, to the point shit doesn't kill you in one hit, without reducing it so much that nothing bothers you.

The more advanced versions of Power Armor were largely self-sustaining in terms of power so the fusion cell excuse won't fly. And if they try it, someone'll just mod it out because fuck that shit.

You can get PA the moment you get to the citadel, which, if you skip the Megaton and GNR main quests, you can do like 3 hours in of a 100 hour game.
Or just do OA and get it in like 2 hours form game start.

The T-60 suit you get in the Minutemen intro is literally THE "more advanced" version. We also see that the fusion core in the back can move the suit with ease, but loses energy when you use certain things (like the jetpack)

In the gameplay exploration video, the PC has 1 fusion core in his T-60, which he wears down by about 5% by doing the entire Minuteman intro fight.
He also has 11 extra cores on hand.
I suppose we could assume that the size of T-60 (literally twice as big as T-45) means that it uses more energy to power the hydraulics and shit.

The problem is that we don't know the specifics of any actual armor.
T-51 is made of a poly composite, has a coating to stop lasers and radiation, has full waste recycling, and runs on a fusion core.
T-45 runs on small energy cells. We don't know what it's made of.
People like to say that T-45 is made of steel and is therefor weaker, but there's no documentation to prove this.
They probably won't, but it won't matter to me since hopefully it will have preload. I don't want to wait 2-3 days downloading before I can play.
But if it doesn't have preload 4-5 days before game comes out, I will be a little gripy.
Riveted steel which contributes to its weight. Bethesda kind of fucked up their T51 model by adding rivets, I'm not entirely sure but you probably wouldn't see rivets on composite ceramic plating.

You also see it drain from the jetpack. The power gauge isn't the limit on the duration of use of power armor; the durability of the armor itself is. The power gauge only decreases when you use the extras.
Hrm. I'll have to see for myself when the time comes. I'd rather have movement-based power drain (wonder if the minigun counts as an extra?) than allow spotlights to drain fusion cores.

It's precisely because it's a video game that I doubt the spotlight drains power. Jetpack major drain = balance, movement minor drain = balance. Spotlight drain is unnecessary. This isn't Doom 3 or Alan Wake, light jes ain't a gameplay element.

Because you're a fucking subhuman. The core in question is powering the entire suit. For gameplay purposes, using the special add-ons drains energy, thus limiting your ability to use those add-ons. It does not limit movement.

You should kill yourself, because that's literally why, yes. You can GO wherever you want in the power armor, until it takes so much damage the plates fall off. You cannot use the power for add-ons infinitely.
The maximum meaningful armor rating in Skrim was 570. It was equivalent to 80% damage reduction. Now we have here an armor with 980 armor rating which isn't even the best in its class. The numbers were inflated and became even more meaningless.
Why wouldn't I call our star Sol? It is the name of our star. It doesn't magically become not-Sol when you're on Earth.
Also, it's a micro-fusion power plant. The cells are the reactors, you are swapping fusion reactors when you put a new one in. It was mentioned in several Fallouts that the reactors in Power Armor basically last for 100+ years, so whether we need to swap MFCs or not remains to be seen.

Have you ever played BattleTech? 'Mechs use fusion reactors and jump jets are quite literally and physically opening up exhaust ports from the fusion reaction to achieve lift. I don't see any reason why that wouldn't be the case here, aside from the reactors themselves being the MFCs.

There's always Saint's Row. 2 is a poorly-optimized gem, 3 is a better-optimized funfair, and 4 trades everything in for superpowers, losing a lot in the translation. All of 'em have full co-op and outstanding character customization.

I always took the launching of the nukes to be a really sudden spark of the moment thing, and as soon as launches were detected the other side launched theres.
Unless there was a Dr. Strangelove situation where a Chinese Bomber was constantly flying around the US coast, it would take hours for a plane to be equipped, take off, arrive at DC, and drop the bomb.
Why not the atomic version of an earthquake bomb like the Tallboy?
It would make sense: the bomb didn't destroy on impact, but it dug itself in the ground (as intended), but it didn't go off.
Beside, I like the idea behind Megaton, but the execution is really poor.
It would have made more sense on the West Coast, yeah. I guess you could say maybe it's an American bomb that was dropped / lost in the confusion. E.G. one of those long range strat bombers was taking off from the DC area when the apocalypse happened and lost its payload before it was armed. I don't want to defend Megaton anymore so I'm tapping out.
During the Cold War it became clear that in case of a sudden nuclear strike, it was vital, in order to win the nuclear war, to be able to retaliate with a second strike. To do this, you had to protect your nuclear arsenal, and bombers always in flight at two hours maximum from any possible target was a very good solution, which we can assume was employed also by the chinese in the Fallout universe.
By the way, the bombers thing was called Operation Chrome Dome. Also, I suggest you to watch the documentary First Strike, it should be on YouTube.

New Jersey, easy access to New York and Phili, not to mention Camden which is currently a crime ridden hellhole similar to Detroit and has the battleship New Jersey. Imagine a city filled with raiders who control a battleship whose guns they use to fire on neighboring towns and cities if they don't pay tribute in goods, money, and slaves. Main plot could involve the raiders, the battleship, of some major city in New Jersey or bordering it. Bonus points if you could through various actions become the leader of raider controlled Camden.

That bomb had the dimensions of a tzar bomb so it was in the range of the tens of megatons. However it's probable most of the nuclear fuel inside decayed over time greatly reducing its effectiveness; after all 200 years passed since that bomb was dropped.
Vault-Tec dropped the first set of bombs. They were in cahoots with the Enclave, who supplied them with everything they needed/wanted, including weapons grade uranium/plutonium and FEV.
It's already been established that the Fallout world never saw anything on the scale of the Tsar Bomba. "Tactical" nukes were in the range of like 5-7 kilotons.

Fallout nukes are highly inefficient, the little slingshot nukes should kill the player outright simply because the range is too short. The fact that you cannot be killed by the blast unless you try shows how inefficient their nukes are.
Yeah, that's some good sound design. I could never get along with the railway rifle but I'm pretty sure I could jam with this for prolonged periods of time.

Except the number of people that get in the way and the morality of the president. Wars, especially modern wars almost never end in outright annexation, if America hypothetically lost a war to China America as a nation would still exist, killing billions to prevent that defeat is retarded. It is like pulling the pin on a hand grenade because you are losing a fist fight. Furthermore nuclear launches go through several layers. Even assuming the president wants to launch the nukes and no one around him tries to stop him there is still the individual launch sites. A captain to an SSBN could simply ignore or refuse the order or the crewmen or officers seeing the retardation of such actions could mutiny and refuse the launch order.
Nukes are deterrent anyway, the whole point of having nukes is so that the other guys can't nuke you with impunity, nobody had intentions of starting a strategic nuclear war during the cold war under any circumstances.

I mean, while I like the idea of you being able to go full laser weapon, full plasma weapon, or full on bullets, I'm kind of weary on it. I just don't see ammo conservation being a thing that you have to give a shit about in this game, since you can pretty much have each ammo type (except making normal rounds into shotgun ammo) do anything.
Maybe I'm just being petty, but I enjoyed having one type of weapon for each round so I can shuffle them around. I realize I can still do that, but if I'm picking up / making microfusion cells left and right, there's going to be that temptation to just make a laser sniper rifle, automatic rifle, and shotgun and do 90% of fights with those.

My guess is that the cranking mechanism makes it so that it doesn't expend ammo. So basically it's an energy breeder, but degrades a bit every time you crank it until it breaks and you have to go build / find a new one.
Because it's an early game weapon, so I don't see it being very powerful, just useful in its own way (when you don't have much ammo for anything, but everything is weak as hell so you don't want to waste what ammo you have)

How? The only ammo I ever found myself running low on was .44 and .308, which made sense considering they were the two most powerful gun ammo types. Even then, there were plenty of ways to easily acquire more.
I really hope that the "fuel source power armor" is only a mechanic in very early game when you get your first suit, and that mid / late game you can either make or find a proper fuel source to keep power armor supplied with unlimited energy.
Because the whole concept of the brotherhood and Enclave kind of unravels when power armor only lasts 10 minutes. It would also just not feel right if power armor was relegated to a temporary power up instead of being a suit you can wear around freely end game, like in every previous Fallout.
I'm half-convinced it's a Metroidvania. You start with your shit-tier, short-lived suit, and part of accessing new areas in the game is finding parts to repair and upgrade the suit - get the jetpack so you can clear a jump, get the filters so you can enter the glowing sea, get the pressure valve so you can reach a sunken ship, etc. A late-game unlock to let you use it full-time fits right in.

I actually enjoyed going through the DC metro on my first ever unmodded Fallout 3 playthrough worrying about ammo, it was both creepy and tense, and validated my decision to not completely dump strength and put some skill points into melee (my first character was a mess). In any case, the end result was fun
As game designers, they have to balance "this sucks I can't do anything because I have no bullets but I really want to keep going where I'm going now instead of going elsewhere or back to town to get ammo" vs. "this sucks I have all the ammo in the world and nothing bothers me since I'll survive anyways"
But after Skyrim, where smithing your Iron/Steel weapon made it far better than any superior material you came across that you couldn't work (Glass, Orcish, Elven, etc.), I'm not sure they can balance this correctly

I'm not really bothered about the power armor using a fuel source. What would really bother me is if it's treated like vampire lord/werewolf from Skyrim, where you can't do anything except fight when you're in it, not even pick up items or loot.
Would be amazing if the jetpacks were good enough to enable some vertical dungeon design once more. Morrowind had some neat locations in the temples etc. that you could only realistically reach with levitation, more of that please.

Besides Israel (who if they outright lose a defensive war actually would be destroyed as a nation most likely) no nations with notable stockpiles have leadership unstable enough to use nuclear weapons to prevent from losing a war. Sure North Korea might, and maybe Pakistan but neither of them are relevant. As I said it is like pulling the pin on a grenade in a fist fight. Nobody who comes to power in a major nation is dumb enough to do that.
On the bright side nuclear war wouldn't kill off humanity even when nuclear weapon stockpiles were at their peak. Granted billions would die, the climate would be heavily effected and background radiation would be higher than normal for like a thousand years, but humanity as a species would survive.

eeeeh no sorry. the game is build around the ammo converter, a tool that converts the "standard ammo" for each gun.
so there is only 1 ammo type basically and each gun uses a different amount of it. sorry to tell you. confirmed already.

Like, at the moment of writing
You could import multiple custom 3D meshes and textures for custom parts and put them together in custom recipes
You could make the recipes complex and multi-stage, like put 4 parts together to make the "engine" portion of an energy weapon, and then use that part in another recipe
Since you can do this with power armor, I'm sure someone will write an adventure where the end objective is to assemble some monstrous half-mech thing out of dozens of parts, each part will be assembled out of constituent subcomponents, because complexity for complexities' sake
