Elite: Dangerous General
Space Communism edition
>Where do i buy x module/weapon for my ship?
High-tech systems have the best inventory, look there. The more population the better.
>What's this RES you guys talk about?
Resource Extraction site. spawns pirates and space cops that shoot each other. HAZRES in best left until you have a Vulture or better.
>Steam Group (post your commander info in the announcement so we can add you)
>Change HUD color:
>Ship discounts (report these as you find them)
All systems exploited by Li Yong-Rui have a discount on ships and outfits for example:
NU TAURI - Parmitano Terminal
BD+28 413 - Gunn Station
>Test your ships before you buy:
Some weird guy wanted to collect a list of us (Seems like a lazy guy as the list hasn't been updated in ages)
Don't you dare buy a Cobra, we'll know.
>praise the vision
See you when 1.5 / Horizons drops. I go play something that is fun.
Reminder that the best way to grind rep is not an exploit but will still get nerfed because it is against the VISION
anyone know where i can get some good retro sci-fi wallpaper material?
some deviantard painted them, then some anon made them dank
only saved two of them
>Angels of vision walk among mortals
>They fear no grind, for they are boredom incarnate
>decide to do a CG for once
>fly to kaushpoos
>"Kaushpoos CG: COMPLETE! submitted 7 hours ago"
>Decide to take part in first CG they released
>Do about 3 cargo runs in my Clipper to deliver materials
>Get bored, stop
>Come back, was in top 1%
Nobody seems to care.
Ive just been doing regular trading since I got the game, and I almost never get scanned. Is there a higher probability of getting scanned while carrying slaves and shit? I dont get it, wheres the risk
>joined some CGs months ago, did like 3 of them
>was at worst contribution level in all of them
>weeks pass, I didnt turned them since its worthless profit
>1.3 hits, a new bug maxes the all previous CG contribution levels
>mfw I am top contributor in all of them
>mfw got free 35M out of it for free
This game's website as well as numerous reviews online say that the game has a dynamic economy, but every now and then I see someone say that it doesn't really have a dynamic economy.
Does this game have a dynamic economy?
so i am trying to figure out how good my trade is compared to others since every time i mention it, people seem to loose their shit. anyway;
4.4~4.6K per ton in 5 jumps at 16 LY jump range
3 going to, 2 coming back
240 cargo clipper nets me 1,062000
It's fake dynamic. It's dynamic in that you can run out of items to buy but it's not dynamic in that they magically restock themselves after enough time. Prices for goods vary but not in a real supply/demand sort of way, more like completely random. It's a weird, nonsensical economy.
>joined some shitty exploration in Liu Kang space
>promptly forgot about it for a month
>checked the on board mission description
>lowest contribution, around 160 00 cr reward
>went back to cash it in
>16 000 000 cr reward
Here you go.
We should update this for the new ships (DBE and onwards) but I have a feeling they're either statistically outperformed or just sidegrades.
Retro future/sci Fi is my fetish fam.
holy fucking shit tbh lad
powerplay exploration bonus, I suppose?
>6B reactor (no one sells 6A it seems)
>dual beams in large
>uses a ton of power and overheats often
>dual pulse lasers in large
>can fire for fucking ever
Would getting the 6A reactor makes the beams worth it?
I got a 6A reactor from somewhere, bastard cost 15mil.
Either way, you're not going to notice much of a difference, what determines your capacitor power is your power distributor.
went from vulture to clipper for RES farming and it feels like a downgrade. i know the clipper is multirole, but what's it generally best at? could i make more dosh from switching to trading or something?
gimballed beams (C3) and autocannons (2F) thus far.
Beams on the large hardpoints, autos on the mediums. I know that my current weapons are lacking, but I'm saving up for better ones.
My logic is that I use the big beams to take out shields, the cannons to keep plinking and something bigger beneath for hull damage.
Suggestions are welcome though.
Give me a destination in deep space and I will go to it and post a screenshot.. eventually.
was about to head out too
gonna screen your post for when i do get there though, might be a bit cause i work the next few days though
Go explore man. I'm about 5k Ly from Sagittarius A* in my Clipper and loving every second. Takes longer to get there but comfy as fuck and more jumps = more chance to find shit.
It's not terrible but it is a minute longer than what the asp can manage.
1:33 vs 36 seconds to fill. So you will sit at a star for a bit longer than in the asp where you can just fill it when you buzz by it.
you know thats pointless
I mean pure trade profit always beats your initial grind plus merit maintain tasks
and you can grind whenever you want,
there is no "oh shit if I dont grind this week I am gonna fuck my merits" pressure is going on
you can bounty hunt, explore mine and not worry about your weekly working quota
So I am flying my clipper.
It has two large pulse lasers, and two medium multi-cannons.
The cannons are nice, but ammo is a pain.
Would going all pulse lasers do more damage? What about large pulse and medium beam?
>spend hours finding a decent system alligned to the power i support with RES that also has a station close-by alligned to a minor faction supporting my major faction while also having the fucking ability to repair/reload/refuel
>spend more hours finding one with at least normal RES
>spend even more hours save-quitting for a decent fucking spawn instead of 5k bounty sidefaggots
>finally play videogame so i can get enough cuck credits to buy a ship that lets me do something interesting with other players without getting oneshot
>crash into a python because it does a lightning fast impossible 180 super-spin right into my face
im getting that motherfucking vulture
I would donate some painite to your cause, if I werent 5k away from the nearest station
Because deep down your brain recognizes that this was all freelancer ever was, minus sicknasty smooth space jazz in bars
just got there. It's eerie...
hey, it made me some good spacebux doing exploration, so i was fine with it
Why does such a huge ship have such shit shields?
>Only thing good about VISIONGAME (TM)
>They took down the OST Youtube playlist
>Be a good goy and buy the soundtrack ;)))
Have you ever seen a fucking game that take down soundtrack on youtube? Even EA don't do that shit. Ubi outright upload their own. FTroop is fucking around like blind man in charge of sawblade shaving machine, yet they manage to get shekels.
What a time to be alive.
I have them, I A graded this thing off of Sothis in the heyday.
>Go into a high conflict zone in my Clipper
>Lose 2 shield layers almost instantly
>Run out of SCB charges 20 minutes in
>Get destroyed suddenly by a kamikaze Asp
>Can no longer afford to fly the replacement Clipper, switch to my Vulture
>Enter High Conflict with Vulture
>Stay for 2 hours just shooting shit until I got bored
>Still have shield cell charges and chaff
>Shields never dipped below 2 rings
I can easily take anything but Feddy Assualt/Gun ships in my Clipper. I normally run out of ammo before I do shield charges/chaff.
And those only give me trouble because they can manage to keep fire on me no matter what.
Python? No Problem. Anaconda? Easiest kill in the game. Assault/Gunship? GTFO.
NGC 1999 - there is absolutely nothing interesting inside.
>On the surface there are many different things to see.
>Different outposts, research outposts, outposts, outposts, mining outposts, crashed ships and crashed ships to investigate.
Mfw l finally got asp yesterday.
Going to fit it for exploring and get comfy.
i remember back the first or so community event was a lugh and you had to get combat bonds.
all i did was sit on top of the capital ship with pulse laser turrets and collect them while AFK.
then at the end of the week i cashed in like 25 or something mil from the even and like another 10 mil from just bonds. this is a lot of fucking money for someone who didn't have a clipper at the time.
That's why I don't read Galnet. Wish there was a filter option for gay RP fanfics.
>overwhelmingly more advanced alien civilization sending data in morse code
Welp, FD produced fanfics aren't good either.
>mfw reading the forums
Is it me or are all of these fucks on the Elite forums the most insufferable pieces of shit ever?
>tfw they equate destroying their carebear ships to a psychotic neurosis
>checking out the gulag last week
>"why the python needs more nerfs"
>"why PvP is griefing and solo is not an option"
>"why the Cobra is the best"
Only took three days of federal dick sucking
Time to find out what this so-called assault ship can even do
You were too late for Sothis my friend
You can smuggle but the best you can do is like 4mil/run if you're lucky
>hutton mug cg
>so much delicious dad tears
sometimes it's worth it
An anon in the last thread reported that Sothis can still spawn long-range (~450ly) smuggling missions but the fact that they're rare and faction rep dependent is a turn-off to most. Fringe stations offer them, Sothis being the most well-known.
If your goal is money then yes, smuggling can fuck right off. Can't speak for the CG but I lost faith in them after the Munshin event.
>hauled a thousand tons of medicine for 5000 Cr reward
>"it was for charity lol, why do you want a reward"
So I recovered a data cache from a wreckage in a system 1200 ly away from human space, and I got... 2300 cr for it. Damn son, we rich now
>if you still want it just find it on some torrent or sharing site like ffshrine
That's why not retarded publishers don't bother to take their soundtracks down. In some cases they upload them themselves. It's free publicity, free marketing from people linking to some youtube video. Frontier are not only failing at game design, they're failing at marketing on a fundamental level.
I feel like owning the game should give us access to the soundtrack regardless since it's included within it.
Also do yo guys notice large ncp ships turning and shit really fast, the clipper is one I've noticed doing it pretty regularely almost like they're boosting laterally or something. How are they doing these manuvers?
There will always be avenues for people to download shit they don't want to pay for. The war on piracy is practically the same as the war on drugs, an abject failure that only hurts those caught in the crossfire. Smart businesses co-opt piracy by using what amounts to free distribution platforms like youtube to generate publicity and recoup losses by securing other sources of income. The failures of business crack down on piracy, and develop animosity from alienating the consumer. See EA, Ubisoft.
does the game force you to pay off fines?
i had a 1 million dollar fine in this one place for getting scanned with illegal cargo, i died like 2 days later in somewhere completely different and i don't see it anymore, i still see my bounties though. cant tell if i payed it off or its just gone
I've also noticed that when pirates or cops scan you they try to stay exactly 1km away from you. I can fly straight at them at 300 m/s and they manage to stay 1km away from me while flying backwards
No one's defending piracy. There's just no way to effectively defeat it without instituting draconian restrictions on absolutely everything that would end up doing far more harm than good.
The strength of capitalism is not that it can fight and defeat opponents, but that the things that prove too troublesome to defeat can be co-opted to benefit it.
So they showed us that neat "how we make planets" video. They made effort to point out that surface generation is heavily rooted in hard science. Braben himself told us many times how he wants to see varied surface feaures and geological activity like cryovolcanoes etc etc. And what we see in the streams are the samey looking rocks spawning in front of you and that's it.
Are those features locked behind atmospheric worlds dlc?
Does the Cobra need a large labding pad like the clipper?
I wanna do some kaushpoos bounty hunting (there is a station near gas giant rings, but it is an outpist. small ships only) but I am so tired of the Vulture.
Is this really the reason? This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.
>you used to be able to avoid scans by doing what makes sense and getting out of scan range
>NO YOU MUST BE SCANNED FOR THE VISION DEMANDS IT
Maybe this wouldn't be a problem if vipers were still the fastest ship in the game and could easily catch back up to anything but another viper like an actual police interceptor.
But no, forumdads cried their cobras weren't the fastest ship.
I would share mine but I'm way too fucking lazy, with about 30mil you can put top shields 7d power 7c energy putterinplacer and the rest on cell bank 6 decent weapons chaff, shield booster
was in an asteroid field yesterday and the sun rose on me. was pretty neat
Even with 6C shields it has more shield power than the Clipper.
I went a little cheaper that I should have on the build, but I should be able to survive while bounty hunting as long as I don:t engage anything too dangerous.
I have just enough cash leftover for one insurance charge.
Guy with the Type 6 here again,
I've been destroyed 3 fucking times and lost everything. How do these NPC's know I've got this shit? Less than 5m after picking up cargo these omniscient space niggers are waiting to fuck me up.
How do I avoid this unbalanced bullshit?
Bounty hunt until I can afford a ship that can last more than 15 seconds in a fight?
But no, really. You can fight interdiction. If you can see yourself losing the interdiction tug-of-war, zero your throttle. It'll submit you to the interdiction, which lets you jump out far, far faster. If you do get interdicted and submit, select a different star system to jump to. High-wake jumps are not affected by mass locking (as much). Thirdly, quickly jettisoning a small amount of cargo will actually distract most NPCs as they get to scooping said cargo. Less than optimal, but still.
avoid all interdictions
if I'm watching netflix and not paying attention and do get interdicted:
zero throttle fast, and submit so it doesn't bug out and give you a 45s timer
pop into instance, orient away from contact
4 pips engines, boost and twirl
pop chaff back to back on 2 launchers (you have chaff right?)
jump to next system route
what part is troubling you?
Is the free ship that previous owners get when Horizons drops going to be worth purchasing it early? I most likely won't have too much time to play it prior to Horizons release anyway, but if Steam does another sale like the $27 one in September it would be nice to know if it would be worth the extra $ for a free ship.
>do one kaushpoos bounty run
>a short one since its my firdt time in python, only 600k
>drop it off
>in the top 40% from one run
What the fuck? Are people this bad? Or is it just way too early in the CG?
Can I drop lower if I stop now?
And how do we find the "global rewards" amount?
>What the fuck? Are people this bad? Or is it just way too early in the CG?
Pretty early. I did one run in my Python for 700k before I got chased away by a fucking pair of Diamond Back scouts, and ended up in top 40% as well.
>Can I drop lower if I stop now?
Yes. You'll need to maintain your bounty amount to maintain your current reward tier.
>And how do we find the "global rewards" amount?
I actually have no idea how the global rewards work.
Guess we won't be seeing you for a long while.
>tfw Elite doesn't have a station/complex building options like X3 did.
>mfw everytime I enter an empty system in Elite, I remember what I could do if it was X3
>mfw I remember Xstillbirth
Never again ;_;
I'll probably be back soon actually, because X sucks
eh, if anything X proved how tedious and unfun building stations and such is
I'd much rather they focus on making the small ship gameplay better
Seems like the best combat ship overall. It's ultra-durable for the size, fast, and can gun down anything quickly.
I'm using one with gimballed Beams right now and it's fucking crazy.
X3 had its own problems. Namely AI pathing and out of sector combat. I never raged so hard as when my autopilot slammed my Venti Custom into a fucking asteroid at full speed.
Or when a lone Argon Buster would destroy 4 captured J's and their defending M3's on patrol because oos combat was nonsensical shit
Well X is pretty much all about graph, charts, numbers, dynamic background economy and running your own fleet/corporation remotely while you park at some station in the ass-end of nowhere.
You don't really play it for the piloting sim.
Nothing more satisfying when you can warp your whole fleet in and rape/pillage a sector.
Capturing xenon ships always gave me an erection, especially L's or LX's. Them fuckers were mean looking and get a wolfpack of them and they could chase down everything in sector and fuck them in the ass.
>do hub legit
>capture everything capturable
>do hq mission to mass produce my ships
>new terran mission comes with access to ATF ships
>last mission you fight two and they must bail for you to get the ships
>try for MONTHS, they wont bail
>gave up n disgust and never finished that last mission
I have like 3k hours of playtime, yet that mission still disgusts me.
>jump through gate with 4 wingmen following me
>as soon as we jump in to the next system they fly straight towards the nacelles on the gate and die
>I'm just a regular joe sixpack flying through pirate occupied space at the start of a playthrough
>there's 10 freighters flying in this system and I'm in an M4 minidng my own business
>every single pirate in the system including the brigantine stops what they're doing to chase me until I leave or die
>fucking around doing my thing in the late game
>Q one shots my 200 million credit M2 becaues lol OOS
>order capital ships to attack station/other capital ship
>it flies straight at it only using it's front guns as if it's a fighter
>can't turn away in time and wrecks into it and dies
X3 did so many things right, but holy fuck that AI, never have I raged more
>Spend a day scouting out the handful of unowned systems
>pick one with no bullshit coulds, no asteroids, at least two gates and good lighting
>Construct a massive, self sufficient, drug lab megaplex in the middle of it
>Endless stream of "disguised" M4's and M5's coming to buy my wares
>Don't even need to build freighters to make money
>Have a small fleet to kill any bounty hunter/cops/pirates/khaak that show up to start shit
>I'm the fucking kingpin druglord of space and it feels good
>I'll never be able to do this in Elite.
I hate that we're expected to type these in perfectly to locate them on the map
Hind nebula is pretty nice
>haven't played in 4 days
>find comfy and good music for hunting bounties and exploring
>its overcast and beginning to rain
>no will to play
What do I do?
man glad I haven't seen any of that shit yet
although I got a few questionable deaths to apparently being too close to the enemy as they explode already
oh well, it's more fun than the last time I played at least, I guess it helps when you pick a start that isn't totally fucking broken
Terran start is the best.
You get a bad ass M3 and access to terran space.
Follow the Terrab plot and you end up with one of the best M6 in the game, unlocked lost terran colonies, and a helping of cash.
I still remember the good old days before stillbirth. I took a boarding party and stole the Paranid Agamemnon, the proceeded to fit it with dual PSGs so that I could space wubwubwub everything to death
Is bounty hunting too easy? I mean, it doesnt feel quite right to me that you can just hang with cop-anacondas in your stock sidewinder and claim 250k bounties all day long. Literally the biggest threat is accidentally hitting a friendly ship.
It is less risk to bounty hunt in a sidewinder than an Anaconda or Python.
It is kind of a shame that the grind never scales. You can experience all the content this game has in well under 4 hours.
You need to find a good trade route. find a high tech world and extraction world close to each other. Make sure their population is high.
Buy Palladium (Gold is good too) at the extraction station and sell it in the high tech. Buy consumer tech, progenitor cells or performance enhancers in the high tech world and sell it in the extraction.
It might be only slightly more profitable, but 9001 more soulcrushing. I suggest you grind RES until you can afford a Type 7 or something so you can start truly jewing.
Well it depends on whether you stop to scan of just buzz the star to refuel and jump
Not bothering to scan until you hit the core will take maybe an hour to an hour and a half.
>disabling damage and driving around in a action-packed manner while under heavy fire to show the intense gameplay coming
like we all wont just park at the edge of every base and shoot down the drones from afar since you have to enter a seperate turret-view to aim your gun.
Future planets updates in the Horizons season will include 'active volcanism' and 'ice volcanism
from a thread keeping track of what the devs have said
i bet they look nice on your $2000 pay2win ships lmao
jew devs, kickstarter scammers
this game is never coming out you retards, otherwise it would have gone gold, and playstation network would have posted a trailer
>"ITS BEEN OUT A YEAR"
>"just buy it with in game cash!!"
yeah sure so you can just kill everyone in your cashshop ship rite fagit?
NMS kicks this vaporwares ass any day and shaun is basically best thing ever
GABEN= total faggit
what ship are you currently flying /edg/? me, i am flying a cobra :^).
Whats a good weapon setup for the python?
Right now i'm running 3 large pulse lasers and 2 medium multicannons, and i feel that its not too effective against larger ships. I tried just normal cannons and the projectiles are just way too slow.
Could someone post the guide how to make money using the bulletin board open / solo switching?
I read it here weeks ago but cant find it any more and i finally have some time to play, but not enough to make good dosh with trading.
>what is peter panning
>When a guy wants to send a seductive dick pic but is embarrassed by his small junk he sends a picture of the shadow of his dick so as to leave it's size up to the recipient's imagination.
So Braben has a small dick? That's what you're trying to say?
Small dick, big VISION.
okay boys simple question, is this game worth buying?
I don't need constant action to keep me entertained, the idea of space exploration always entices me and I heard the devs are planning for planetary landing and being able to walk around your own ship, which gives me a boner.
judging on my brief character review of myself would you recommend this game to me /10?
>shooting a wanted ship
>nothing near it so not worried about friendly fire
>suddenly get bonked on the head by a npc ship
>spins me around and i almost shoot a space cop
another time a type 9 hit me from below when i was leaving a dock then spun out and crashed into the wall. wing mirrors module when?
NPC bounty hunters keep putting me between them and their targets and lighting me up and they never get a bounty, but one of my lasers glances a cop's Anaconda and suddenly the entire system wants my head on a platter.
gg no re easy pvp noob not even close :^)
Good for you then. This game has a lot of differently colored orbs for you to look at. Horizons will add the ability to land on some of them and dangle in your buggy through huge, brownish, empty, boring desert x400 gorillion times over and over again. Walking inside your ships is far, faaaaar away from release.
Since the mere idea gives you a boner, I advise you to join the brabckuck social club at forums.frontier.co.uk and let them decide for yourself like a good cuck you are.
Fuck >>120733357 for using the word cuck, but he IS right. If Horizons ends up being a land version of the current game, then it's not worth buying. I'd stay away from it if I were you. This game is shallow, grindy and the devs are incompetent as all hell.
>If Horizons ends up being a land version of the current game
Is there is a slight glimpse of a reason of why it won't end as a carbon copy of base gameplay? Do people really expect Ftroop to deliver rich gameplay experience after almost two years of sucking their own dicks and making ship skins in MS Paint?
It took them a year to "fix" mining for example.
actual mining spots, as in metallic rings
Do I make short exploration run to Statue of Liberty Nebula and turn back for New Horizons content or continue straight into Galactic Core for long period exploration trip?
short nebula expeditions are fun, so far I've been to Pleiades and Spirograph and the sights were pretty.
Is this worth getting into? Do yall play together? How many of you are there?
I'm NEET and going nuts, I need a new distraction and I'm not new to grinding poverty simulators.
Is this the game for me?
why do you keep saying that
what do you think it means
>tfw find a nice and comfy HAZRES with tons of security vessels
I can just chill in my cheap ass Vulture and take easy money from all the 'Condas when the security forces engage them
>then you realise that you're basically playing Duck Hunt in almost 2016 Anno Domini
>proceed to play Uninstall Wizard instead
Why doesn't frontier release all those cool pirate skins as dlc? It's literally free money
Fuck knows. Ship cosmetics is in a pretty bad state right now. They don't give any free options and the the variety of paid skins is very limited. Still it's the least of the games problems right now.
destiny concept art is some pretty good shit tbh
I've had this game for a while but I don't play it much because I'm not sure what to do. Pretty sure I still have the starter ship. If I wanted to explore shit, how do I make money from that and figure out what systems are unexplored?
I dislike both tbh. Starshitizen ships look like overdesigned transformers garbage and ED ships look like the most uninspired attempt at shipd design ever.
Even Infinity: Vaporvare ship somehow looks better.
I think elite ships look the most realistic, simple shapes are functional, especially if you want heavy armor on a ship you need as much surface area to volume ratio as you can get, that means simple convex shapes, and the shapes are visually pleasing and they look like they're manufactured with a process well beyond what we are capable of today, giving a much cleaner more seamless look
overall it's a 10/10 ship design and one of the best parts about the game
>I think elite ships look the most realistic
Realistic? You jest, nigger. Not with a huge glass canopy and fixed main thruster. And let's not mention that a manned space dogfighter is as far from realism as you could get.
Also, fuck realism, it's cancer of space games.
all the ships have highly vectored thrust and can redirect the main thrust into retro thrust via special vents, and in general a powerful main engine and RCS is all you need for space flight
it's perfectly realistic
Except the game ditched newtonian physics long ago, theres no momentum conservation, maneuvering thrusters are much weaker than main and same for retro.
Yeah, what is it? Magic dicksheese crystals that somehow deflect laser beam powerfull enough to melt your hull? Why the whole ship isn't made out of them then?
if you get a direct hit on the cockpit it shatters, it's just very unlikely to happen
there are certain limits put in place to make the game fun (how not to be fun: star citizen's "realistic" slide and jousting fest), but within those limits it's newtonian
why wouldn't maneuvering thrusters be weaker than main?
your autism is showing
