I fucking hear you
>die in the ocean
>bag goes to the bottom
>put goggles on
>swim around trying to find bag
>it becomes night
>it gets foggy
it's cool I didn't want to see my nose in front of my face anyways.
Just letting everyone know I'll be restarting NFA pve soonish for the new patch. Also, I don't know when I'll be able to apply the next big patch on Tuesday because I've got jury selection.
>Nursing a carno, its half way between juvenile and adolescent
>random wild bronto near my base gets angry because some random shit dino attacked it or something
>my carno loses its shit and runs into the river full of pirahna
>even after I kill the bronto and call it back, because of the fish its still scared and runs back into the fucking river to get eaten
Current Version: v221.3
* Substantially reduced level-streaming memory overhead, and massively improved garbage collection efficiency (70% reduction in garbage collection time), improving framerate and reducing stalls.
Serious question --
Is the game more or less at the level of optimization it's going to always be in?
Still runs like garbage even on modern specs, just wanted to know whether or not to keep any hope of it ever running any better.
Why dont you and other anons that ppot here and run servers have the server manager and put auto update on? It gives out a warning on the server and counts down from 1 hour until the server restarst and your server will always be up to date
Well I'm in line for a big promotion and work but they haven't handed it to me yet and if I do get jury duty I won't get it, and here anyways thats plenty good enough reason for them. Hell, simply saying you feel anxious will automatically disqualify you because they have plenty of people that are totally happy doing it because they get paid by the court and full wages from their job.
Auto-update is on, and always has been on. Needless to say it doesn't work.
Do you like random fags building eyesore autism boxes too close to you and not being able to do anything about it in exchange for a little security?
Do you not mind if you have a particular place to settle down in mind but it's taken already?
Been playing for about 20 hours so far on a private server with a friend, just us together. Lots of fun so far, but are there any useful tips anyone might have? I dunno what, just whatever.
>Make guns and git gud.
>Fliers are so weak to firearms and ranged its hilarious.
Not when cunts have the new breeded argents and pteranadons that get to level 260+
I unloaded clips of pump action shotgun right into them and it didnt do shit
>Finally some players appear on LauerInsel
>Find their cute little thatch home at the beach
>Give them a chitin armor and some metal tools by putting them in a box in front of their home
I feel like santa. Or this can be come sort of reverse-halloween thing.
I like doing this too but I do it a little differently
>find thatch hut on beach
>break in door
>damage some stuff and make it look like it was raided and nothing is left
>leave metal tools and random goods in their boxes
Wait, how recent was this? Last I remember, Numberseven was the only one left amongst them who frequently played, and he was bragging about being impenetrable a few threads ago.
Not to mention what about the Chinese tribe? Isn't there still the pressing matter of them being the dominant force?
They're already looking at the next ark. The devs aren't treating it as early access unless it's convenient for them.
Optimization needs more attention now, not seasonal events and farce tournaments.
What's the fastest way to level grind shoulder mounts? I need to strengthen my Dimorphodon so I've just been siccing it on skittish animals mainly.
Do they share XP from things like crafting?
>Buy the game without looking at PC requirements.

I know I'm far behind.
Is their any way to play a screamer on mic without having it go through your speakers? Sometimes I yell when a flyer picks me up but i'd like to blast their ears out without doing it myself
Your processor is slightly better than mine but yeah those video cards are shit.

>dat cycling rexes out of the fight
>cycling the tanks even in fight
>abusing the rex's double bite
In my case, I couldn't play in servers with mods until I went to Steam, game properties, updates, Always allow background downloads.
After that, no need to select them, it does it automatically.
>Waterproof deep see bases.
As long as it's costly, actually useful and not unbalanced as fuck
I live in the snow biome and soon as they add that I'm building a giant harbor city on bronto island
The general is sadly ded
I have no means to know how the game is fairing saleswise, but I haven't noticed the steam forums for it having a huge post rate drop. Its novelty is clearly drawing off, but was to be expected. I hear it started off as super popular among streamers, is that still the case?
Well, without the server Drama of course everyone leaves. Heaven forbid people actually discuss the game.
I rarely post, so I'll just try to keep some discussion going.
I've been experimenting with breeding rexes the past few nights. Can you guys post the base stats of your rexes so I have a comparison? Even if you don't remember all of them, the hp and damage are enough. You can guess by the hp and damage per level you ge.
Most of the ones we've knocked out look like shit, but we have a few tamed ones that look good.
Rex 1: 7800 hp 348% dam
Rex 2: 4000 hp 393% dam
Rex 3: 5200 hp 378% dam
Rex 4: 5600 hp We haven't gotten a baby with its damage yet, so we don't know it.
We're ideally going for a 7.8k hp rex with the highest damage possible, or maybe 7.8k hp isn't all that impressive and we're stupid. This is why I need more samples.
The game is already imbalanced as fuck. I would care less about the shitty meta if it were at least fun, but driving monster rexes is an exercise in frustration. Being on foot is more fun but you're basically worthless in a fight that way. Every additional level they let the tames get just pushes the game more and more into Rex v Rex slamfests.
There's more to the game than the combat, which is pretty bad, but building sucks too, and the dinosaur management is just filling troughs and using them to smash some rocks.
That would be cool if I didn't know it was going to be behind hours of doing boring things to get them for a few minutes of novelty followed by ignoring the thing minus a little upkeep every day.
>wants people to discuss the game
>rarely posts anything about the game
There just isn't much to talk about. Surely even you are not so dense as to misunderstand dozens of posts telling you to bring up any discussion topic other than drama.
The game sans people just doesn't offer anything compelling. Hence why the general is only active when there is drama. Outside those times people just play the game because it's so simple all you have to do is play longer, there's basically no room for discussion on how to do things because it doesn't matter, you are constrained to only a couple ways to do things and they are generally vastly different in effectiveness.
I'm a dirty casual playing on a private server.
There's a couple of dirty casuals playing with me.
The time needed to tame a dino or breed one is killing it for us.
Anyone knows any mods or something to make breeding and taming even faster.
I got a mod that makes kibbles like 5 times more effective + we got the taming speed slider set as high as we could.
We don't want to set our dino food consumption to a higher rate [should help tames munch on those kibbles faster], couse we're afraid it'll make our baby dinos starve to death.
Is there a mod/way to make baby dinos grow up faster?
You are aware that the babies inherit the immediately post-tame stats, right?
If you tamed a Rex at 150 and it only had meh HP and then put a lot of stats into that, the heir is still going to inherit the original meh stats.
By the way, assuming we're talking about 120, anything above 7000 is really a lot.
Eh, I think that's in the .ini file.
Take a look at that in .txt and carefully read it
Or just use that one Ark server manager with a trillion options, it'll blow your mind. Shame I can't remember what it's called.
>Log off inside tatch house, one wall missing because >no windows.
>Log back in. Naked. All of my stuff is gone.
>Everything still intact. Nothing from my boxes was taken.
Which one of you faggots was it.
>all the threads on the steam forums for "how do I make a hatchery"
Why is it so hard for people to understand how an AC works? It's just expressed via hyper- and hypethermal insulation instead of HURR HOT AND COLD, but it's the same concept behind different armors.
Now if I could get any confirmed data about what's the average mainline temperature that AC create with nearly perfect insulation (around 2000 or so) instead of baseless opinions, that would be useful for breeding considering some eggs need 30 °C to hatch.
Do AC stop raising/decreasing the outside temperature at 24 °C? Any air conditioned scientist here?
Got a private server with a friend. We want to be able to build a base each so I also thought I'd just give us practically infinite engrams so we can learn everything. What rates would you recommend? Same as NFA PvE?
Is it just going to be you two? How much work do you want to do in comparison to official grind your nuts off for 8 hours for a Rex rates?
4-5x taming is pretty good. If you're basically alone then 2-3x xp will force you to see some grind but will let you pass the boring parts quickly, though you'll want to up it after level 65ish, when the exponential growth kicks in. 2-3x resources is pretty good too.
>there's basically no room for discussion on how to do things because it doesn't matter,
The game is very straight-forward, there's no innovations and it's obvious from the start what to do and how to do it because you only have so many options.
>Base design tips?
Four walls and a ceiling
Fight shit, craft shit, tame shit.
Use your brain.
>What should I level my ___ in?
What are you using it for?
There are less obvious things like min-max stats e.g. when do I stop leveling health and how much stamina do I really need? but that can be answered with ten seconds of playing the game.
The only thing in the dark with this game would be a strucure meta because of how retarded the building system can be, so you can try to design bases and playing around with shapes and figuring out weird ways to make a platform 3x larger, but that's really about it. Between the devkit and third party tools we already know everything else about the game that would typically be discussed in another general, the mechanics and gameplay are simply too simple at this point in time.
x2-3 rates and between x3-5 taming seems to be pretty balanced as far as removing the grind but not getting a ridiculous amount of ridiculous things in a ridiculous amount of time.
TW: hot opinions
I'd consider that entirely too high and I'm on a private server with just me and a friend of mine.
The real bitch is solo taming and having to stay around for hours having to make defenses, torches and keep surroundings clean all by yourself -so yeah, much faster taming is okay in my book (even if I keep it at just 1.4).
Experience I'd consider anything over x2 simply being a lamer unless you know you'll just be able to log once in a while. Getting to lv 40~ is piss easy, the real bitch is 70+. Engram points aren't really a problem if you don't learn every possible saddle (getting some BP from the drops) and avoid learning pvp-based shit like bear traps and the likes.
Gathering might be a problem in the mid-early game where you've learned how to make your stone base large and pretty but have yet no means to establish a huge stone factory. Otherwise that's fine. My suggestion: 1.5x gathering, BUT keep the resources respawn time lower, around half the time or a bit lower. That way you leave the area, do your thing somewhere else and rocks/wood/metal has already started respawning by then. Don't worry about the rest, if you're solo resources are not a problem, just choose your base location wisely with those in mind.
Anyway not having to worry about other players means you can use entire mountains or caves as your personal mines. It's good, especially when you realize you can just leave your ankylo and doeds there, take a trip from your base with a couple of weight-slave argents, fill your mortars and repeat
PvP decay was off on the last server too, if you want the eyesores gone take care of them yourself, c4 is easy on these rates and it's not like they're blocking anything important.
My case against pvp decay is that it lets you know when someone is on break so you can hit them more easily while they're offline with 0% chance of them finding out about it until it's way too late.
I'd be all for removing the Me pin and making the nights longer though, at the very least for the duration of this event so we have a chance to find the dodorex and kill it before dawn.
I only said that's what I'm using, but
1. As a player I'm not entirely opposed to grinding a bit
2. Those are the multipliers we settled for long after starting the game
3. It all depends on what game experience you want. NFA pvp follows a game philosophy: it's not mine, but mich higher everything makes sense when wars, robberies and mass destruction are frequent. Private servers don't have that.
My advice is, experiment with stuff. Understand what your beefs with the game are, and try to make up a way to change the multipliers so that it all stays balanced -that's its own brand of enjoyment for me.
One last thing: I realized 1.4 taming is with kibble in mind. You might want to go for something around x2.5 time and ESPECIALLY a lower food rate multiplier if you're going to need tons of prime meat, try something like 0.6 for starters.
How likely are stone structures to be raided when you're offline? Cause I've been trying like hell to finally build something stone which is hard as hell to do by yourself on a PVP server.
Yes, that's why I gave the base stats of the rexes. Damage per level is 10% of the damage i tamed with, hence you can use your damage and health per level(27% base hp) to gauge what its base stats were if you can't remember.
It is the first rex above 7k hp I've seen, but after looking, I'm seeing people with 8k and near 9k hp rexes bred. Problem is every rex I knock out over 100 has dogshit stats and I abandon it, so I don't have a good idea of what great rex stats are.
What an appropriate location for this graveyard to spawn.
apparently in the latest survival of the fittest tournament some guy was using a longneck and got 20+ kills on players. most of them riding and moving on dinos. he wasn't streaming either and everyone is saying it was aimbot.
good job devs having money tournaments without implementing anticheats lmao
I wish the player base was more creative. I feel like the reason no one talks about anything on these threads is that they simply aren't creative enough. Even if you play PvP there's no reason why you can't build something nice or role play little. On my server this guy made a huge castle and new players have to tend to crops and keep dodo coops like serfs till they can gain knighthood or become a master crafter. The main rival tribe has their own castle in the north and play as Mongols on wolfback and raid to sustain while a smaller tribe roams the map on paracer bases like nomads
If the devs spoon fed you all ideas like this or implemented some features to encourage you to do so I think you'd all be better off
The real game doesn't play like that. People are constant offline raiders and a bunch of cunts who pick you up on birds and drop you.
this game is more suited to streamers who can have their own servers and roleplay without jackasses fucking everything up
Why though, this game is so boring if that's all you do. Ive noticed a lot of the people who play this are WoWfags, no offense but the people who play that have no taste or sense of fun. All they know is raiding and shitty PVP. Oh wait, shitty raiding and PvP...no wonder that's all anyone does.
Theres no reward for playing with a theme you limit yourself it'll be fun for a while but quickly turn right back into just playing the game how its being played now, the only way this thread is gonna be active is if theirs a war or someone gets wiped
But there's plenty of reward, more so than just playing as is. the different tribes create different ways to play that are more interesting that hording shit in a metal box. As a wanderer you can trade shit and see the island from a ground view. Being nomadic forces you to be creative on how you design your paracer/bronco platform and how you defend other pack animals. Course I guess it's really all to imagination but if the devs caught onto this kind of stuff maybe we could have different ways to play the game instead of the crap we have now.
Because building in this game sucks. It makes things lag to boot. Finally, after a hundred hours digging stone to make a mediocre castle, some dick is not going to want to play along and will come along with a few dozen grenades and level it. Or someone with an aimbot will come and destroy you, take whatever you had, and proceed to quit the game after using all your resources to drive your rp buddies off the server.
Unless of course you're on unofficial servers, where there's a chance the admins will do something, and you can set the rates to not be mind numbingly tedious.
Sure the roleplay might be fun but it's pointless when specializing in any one aspect of this game just results in burning out much, much faster, and that's if you manage to find cooperative players.
I'm not surprised given that the target market for this game is tweens.
I think you fail to understand what I'm saying. You all have this one track mind in that there is only one way to play this game and that's all it will ever be. The player base and the devs need to make a little effort to give a variety of ways to play the game or it'll be dead before release. It's not that complicated to figure out how to make this game more interesting.
what you are wanting is roleplay the game is always gonna have a clear meta and if you do it any other way you gimp yourself hard
getting a new experience by playing a different way doesn't allow you to be a relevant tribe on a server and the majority don't want to be recyclable
No one thinks their is one way to play the game theirs tons its just their is the best way which gives the biggest chance at being the strongest and most people want to be that adding more variety will make them more viable but their will always be a best way to play and most will choose that
No, I understand completely what you're saying. What you fail to understand is that what you want relies 100% on the people you play with. It only takes one tribe who doesn't want to play by your rules to ruin it. Hell one person could do it with enough time played.
The game, as is, does not allow much creativity and punishes what little freedom it gives you. You can roleplay all you want but you will frequently break character or rely on other people to fill in where you can't.
Or your character will just be generic ark survivor 2368521.
The mindset of "best way to play it" is literally what's wrong. How exactly is it the best way to play it if all you are doing is burning yourself out faster. Also SotF seems far more suitable for that mindset than playing regular PvP since that's the object of the game mode and their is an actual winner. Maybe make another SotF but where a whole tribe can win as opposed to an individual.
trying to be "the best" on a PvP server is pointless considering that anything can be rebuilt and anyone can respan whenever. Also what's the point of being the best if you don't get any perks for being the best. It's the most hollow and pointless goal and I don't understand why so many people are obsessed with playing only that way. I could get it if you wanted to be king of the server and control what people do and what resources are available but no one bothers to do that b
Honestly, I think the 100% player driven world thing isn't suited for this game. It makes it about min-maxy and dull. Mmo elements would've done wonders for the world. I could see some various tech tier npcs scattered about, giving out quests and content or lore. Something like a multiplayer fallout. Just give them respawn times and it's good.
Because the best way to play is also the way that keeps you from burning out the longest. Everything you can do quickly gets tedious, and is only relieved by doing something else. You want to be a master builder? Fuck you, the build system is buggy and no one wants to gather stone for you. You want to be the beast master? Enjoy sitting in front of your computer doing basically nothing for ten straight hours minimum. You want to be a miner? The only effective way to do this is with a convoy of dinosaurs that are going to bug out on every obstacle, and you're going to be pressing w+m1 for hours.
The perk of being the best is not getting wiped at the whim of some autist who can't believe you insulted his dino waifu.
I was really against this but the game could use some structure. As long as they do something about the god awful grind, which they won't. I have very little faith in them being able to implement a system that is actually enjoyable.
I commend them for the work they do but their lack of creativity stifles the players and really kills a lot of what could be really fun gameplay.
Where were you when we accidentally discovered how to tame immortal dodos?
Just got the game yesterday. I dont care about the base game, but the survival of the fittest mode is fun as fuck. Hunger games with dinosaurs. I wish I didn't get killed by dinosaurs so often, would be nice if there wasn't all those shitty events that make the game harder. They should make some mechanic that forces players together rather than killing them off by T-rexes and shit.
They want to put a whole journal/note system in the game that explains everything, with rare dossiers that would be like "Anon was the first to discover this note" and you'd get an achievement for it or something. It's easy to talk about what you want for the game and a lot more complex to do, though.
We picked them up thinking they were reskined dodos and tamable. They didn't die or get knocked out so we left em and went back to watching the dodorex.
When it died they were unclaimed.
1. Unreal Engine 4
2. Poorly optimized
3. A million creatures and objects for you to load
4. Gigantic, expensive landscape and sky'
5. Early Access/Alpha
even a 650 TI will see poor FPS, they've made good optimizations recently. Hopefully more in the future.
>When it died they were unclaimed.
Now if only I could find the fucking dodorex.
Is it a smarter option to tame level 1 dinos and breed them to get higher level dinos that don't waste points on food or oxygen. or do the hatched babies have random stats for their level as if they were in the wild?
Baby stats are randomised based on the parents stats when they were wild
So any levels you put in their parents wont carry over to their offspring
Also breeding takes so much longer than taming you might aswell tame 100 rex`s and finally get one that all its stats went into md/hp
The are "effectively" immortal. The zomdodo pets (as well as the dodorex hat) are all part of the event. When the rex dies (was bugged where it just despawning triggered, unsure if it's been fixed yet) it leaves behind claimable zomdodo minions.
Now, contrary to popular belief, they CAN die. It's just that they can soak up low yield damages, like for example, punching them to death won't work, but feeding them to a 1k melee rex will.
The digest says they plan on scaling the d-rex down and doing a few more balancing (probably remove the fire breathing on him) before they give him back as a tameable dino. I'm guessing it'll be either april fools next year or for thanksgiving this year.
Testing in singleplayer. The annoying part was finding a d-rex in the wild and resisting the urge to spawn him. Had to lower the setting for day-night cycle and activate playersonly to find him.
Anyone know how to get rid of this spoopy fog patch now that I've got all the gravestones out of here?
>can sew good looking pants
>can sew okay-ish shirt, boots and headpiece
>no gloves or tightly wrapped bandages, instead loosely tied, flappy cloth
What the fuck is this.
And I'm still cold despite being fully dressed. Do I have to get fur stuff to stay warm?
So cold increases only the speed at which I hunger/thirst slightly? That's what I observed. I couldn't figure out if it affects stamina.
Are there levels of cold or is it a flat amount? Wouldn't it make sense to not ignore it, if that's the case?
I try to avoid wikis. As soon as I enter one I absorb every page, I can't control myself.
Also, how do I hund efficiently? We are currently two players and tried to come from two opposing sides but the herbivores on two legs with the bent horn thingy run way too frikkin fast.
We try to only hunt dodos, turtles and crabs. Sadly we cant find many kois, so hunting for them seems not efficient.
We are constantly starving because >no meat.
I think I'll have to increase the ratios. We tried to tame a Spitty McSpitterson but he ate all our supplies and wasn't even half done so I murdered him.
Try throwing a spear (hold right click). They do a lot more damage than a regular melee stab. You might be able to kill a parasaur (two legged sanic herbivore) with a thrown spear or two before it starts to run away.
Alternatively you could just look around the beach and occasionally find dinos stuck on trees.
As for the cold thing, as far as I know it'll reduce your food faster as the temperature gets lower, and when you pass a certain threshold (-5?), it'll start sapping health in addition to food.
Do what anon said and stand near campfire(s) and use torches and houses.
Level up by crafting wooden foundations (demolish them to get back half the ressources) until you can craft bows and arrows (Lv. 15) then you can hunt more effectively. Also - though that's too late now probably - level melee damage until ~200%. You can hunt easier and also get materials 2 times as fast (which is why you also skill that for gatherer dinos, just fyi). Also always wear cloth armor and equip a torch if you don't need your other weapons - that way you will get less cold and thus need less food. As for the food - just eat berries at first. You can never have enough fiber anyway.
Massive fucking bonus points for leveling if you can aquire (steal) shittons of hide and build lots of rafts. They give 90EP each.
Ok, so who else is sick of their current purposeless existance on an inofficial server that doesn't matter where you just take care of daily chores and make sure / pray you don't get raided?
WHAT IF I were to tell you I found a way out of bounds of the map where you can build a base. A place where we - unless you act like a retard and be seen while entering it - will be absolutely impossible to find unless we have abysmal fucking luck? Unknown to probably 99,9% of all players, if not a few nines more, since I didn't find a video of it on youtube yet?
If this were the case, would you band together to go on an official server and start over with an amazing advantage?
I'm not gonna fucking sugarcoat it, the place has it's problems but also a few advantages. We will never run out of drink, have access to the coast and even a bit of metal and no temperature problems - but, pic related, we will have to live in a tower and we will probably be unable to fit most dinos in there due to the small space you need to get through in order to get there.
Enough details though, I want to know if you are interested or if you cannot let go of your old server.
This shit is comfy as fuck. Holy shit. Coming from minecraft general, my eyes are singing hallelujah too.
Realized I should have probably turned up the settings some for a nice scene...
Also, if it turns out that we can get, like, 10 people to join (is that greedy or not much?) I'd like us to make this one organized IF that is okay with the majority. Obviously this plan needs some explaining so I'd create a pastebin, take a few screenshots, build a small model for the base on another server etc.
Also, just tested it, you can't even fit a fucking frog in there. We can just build a garage outside of it I guess - OR, while we're at it, become a holy order of humanity that declares useage of dinos and animals as heresy. Just mentioning that as an option. Farming SHOULD work easily unless the pipes are being a dick because the water in the forbidden realm is kind of glitchy.
(Sorry for those long as fuck posts, don't want to wave my dick around too much but trust me, this idea has potential.)
>out of bounds
>far far away from metal nodes
You obviously have no clue to how this game works
Anyone who thinks that walking for 40 minutes out to a metal rock just to hit it with a stone pickaxe is either sadbob or a genuine autist
Veggie island IS the autist island and every dumb idiot wants it . It has like 5-7 metal nodes and is shit place to defend.
You cant build shit in caves without it getting raided.
Meanwhile let me enjoy my base next to a mountain and have acess to all the resources and dinos I will ever need.
Don't want to argue with you, it's totally cool if you wanna do your own shit. Just testing the waters here.
Metal may be a slight problem, but it is not unsolveable. In my personal opinion not having shittons of metal next to you is a small price for having an unraidable base. But that's just me.
But what are you going to do? What is your endgame plan? Any hostility will endup with your tribe being hunted down and you wont be able to leave your base because you cant get enough resources. So what is the point of that? If i were you i would just report that bug for some possible bounty money and just play on unofficial servers. But who I am to tell you how to play All I am saying is that you will be throwing spears and using clubs againt full flak people ... if you find fun in that then go ahead .
I'm not saying I have it all planned out, neither do I want to pretend to be the goddamn Führer (ignore the silly name I came up with spontaniously). Endgame plan and diplomacy should not be decided by one person alone - I have faith that shit like that can be decided as a group.
>not wanting to be Bear
Not that I have anything worth saving on an official server but I still don't want to risk a ban for some autism fort. The game has some real issues at official rates if you don't have good tames.
>Bounty money for finding a glitch
is this nigga serious?
Question: Did you play on 355 with Oceania?
>Endgame plan and diplomacy should not be decided by one person alone - I have faith that shit like that can be decided as a group.
This is nearly exactly what led to our downfall, even working together there was so much miscommunication and vigilantism that we started a war we weren't ready for.
Naw, I didn't. Well, I guess we need some sort of leadership that calls the shots - depending on the size of our operation and the amount of power we will obtain. But those shots should be well discussed with the others - the leader has to try his hardest not to be a dick.
My biggest concern is traitors or our glitch getting reported. I don't know the probability for that and am not exactly sure as to how to keep our secret a secret. Ideas?
>Set up base in underwater cave.
>Finish putting in metal buildings on pillars, turrets, move down a bunch of equipment.
>Things are great so far, no one bothers me.
>Suddenly, fog rolls in.
>Fog rolls in in a cave.
>Literally cannot see further than one ceiling tile across.
>Light system compounds the issue, causing massive bloom when looking at anything metal or at the fog.
To this day, no one has gone down there and attacked it or anything save for one guy who got gunned down by turrets. It wasn't an assault that did the place in as a usable location, it was the damned fog that made it impossible to actually do anything there.
Well, that and the Peleiosaurs and sharks that eat anyone trying to leave if they've used it as a spawn point, but that was known beforehand since it makes a great defense against curious investigation. Nothing valuable enough in underwater caves to bother fighting them for it, even though you can just use some lazerus chowder and about 50 arrows with a crossbow to kill them, and they won't follow you to the surface.
>tfw Goons removed my tribe from the official server we were on.
C4'd seven metal bases within the span of six hours, two of which were guarded with tons of plant X and turrets. Other tribes are just content to pay them tribute every week, something like 5k cementing paste or various amounts of kibble, far too spineless to actually stand up to them.
Any other official servers people would recommend? I would prefer one without Chinese or Reddit or Goons, but it might not be possible anymore outside of private ones. I'd probably stick with my current tribe, but they're too nice and still trying the hearts and mind approach to diplomacy rather than actually attacking hostile tribes or even harassing them (Seriously, I got complaints when I counter-attacked a smaller tribe on our server who had took shots at me while mining).
I'm gonna prepare some basic shit for the plan and see how the strawpoll looks tomorrow - when someone makes a new thread, it would be nice if someone could add it.
Got shit to do for now but will definetly try to make this work if the trend of interest for this project keeps going like this. I mean I am asking if people are willing to completely start over and so far 86% are willing - that's way better then I expected. So yeah, see you guys later. T-thanks for the constructive and positive response so far, I expected worse.
For a while, I was building bases on my server that were just metal walls and doors stacked thick together so it was one giant autismcube with a vault full of feces in the center, but people on my server will still blowing it up almost daily even though they knew there was nothing valuable inside. Like, the entire point was to make them raid a base that's a pain in the ass to crack and has nothing valuable in it, but these faggots still did it every day for two weeks.
So now I've taken to shitting up the server with metal pillars near obsidian and metal deposits in various places. They get removed pretty quick, but anytime someone wants to mine those locations, they have to C4 the pillars and wait for a new spawn. I have a feeling I'll get tired before they do though, but it would be nice in theory to have pillar'd so much of the map that no one can get explosives quick enough to remove them anymore.
Ok, so dodorex flames deal % max hp. That explains how it burns through alphas like butter.
So high armored saddles are required to tank it, and for some stupid as shit reason the flames burn anything behind it. Drowning it still viable?
No, they patched that with updated AI, now it floats.
Really the only way to kill it before dawn, solo, that I can think of would be to have a school of mega/plesi/mosa chomping its feet in the ocean.
Should I tame a bigfoot?
I can't find Titanoboa eggs anywhere, so I don't have the kibble I need to do it fast. It's an shitty job following the ape around for four hours and giving it berries, but I hear they have incredible HP (That's effectively even higher than actually is due to a miner's helmet increasing EHP by 120%, or possibly even higher if you have something more than a ramshackle one), they're faster than a lot of other tames in the game AND can turn on a dime along with strafing, and hit pretty hard and very fast.
I'm always worried about taming anything big solo though because it's easy to get bird'd by some fucker just passing by and pretty much any tame out there is vulnerable to being shot to death by someone standing on a 10ft rock. Also, bigfoot doesn't gather anything but berries and thatch.
Bigfoot also gets fiber, put it on wander and get more fiber than you know what to do with.
Level HP and MD
Put a journeyman flak helmet on it.
Go to the swamp or caves for boa eggs
That's basically the opposite of what led to our downfall.
Our decline was slow and began because we left every decision to one person alone, a person who then quit the game. We then let a different, single (two or three tops) person make the decisions and no one else cared enough to dissent because we were bored out of our minds after the first person's decisions.
Even then, after "losing" our (still standing) autism fort due to those few people's lack of foresight, we were far more alive than we had been for over a month. The final nail in Oceania's coffin was the Chinese, of all people, coming back to 355 and treating us better than the people we gave free reign of the server to.
We all gave up because the course of the war made it clear not many people wanted to grind resources under the thankless monotony of official rates. Especially after a couple weeks of the general 355 population shit talking us for things we didn't do.
Now the general is dead because most of us want a break after hundreds, in some cases thousands, of hours in this game. We've done everything, seen everything, and are taking time to do other things while we wait for something new to come out. So far the only actual new thing that has come out is the breeding mechanic, which, surprise surprise, is tedious and mindnumbing at official rates.
That's one thing about the official rates that I don't really like, but on the other hand do -- it takes time and commitment to do stuff.
For example, when we're fighting a battle and tons of dinos wind up dying, it's not like everyone can just run out, tame another in 10 minutes, and have all their losses replaced, especially if someone loses their quetzl or some fancy bred T-Rex. It takes time to replace the loss, so losses are felt, and eventually one side can lose a war by running out of resources to fight with.
At the same time, I have to rebuild my stuff so frequently that things just get old after a while. Nothing's more disheartening than spending six hours on a Saturday hand feeding some dino only to have it perish in combat not even a week later. Same goes for replenishing ammo, metal, and other goodies, especially when more advanced stuff takes hours to farm for 10 minutes of use.
I would like it more if the game had a more industrial aspect to it -- the difference between simple weapons like pikes and long rifles and advanced polymer stuff was that simple weapons were easy to maintain at the cost of material efficiency, while advanced equipment required assembly bays and a larger, established presence. Anyone good go out and grab some metal to make a handful of simple pistol bullets, but to make advanced ammo, you had to produce it in massive quantities in a fabrication system -- queue up how much ammo you want to make, supply a ton of resources to create bullets and keep the assembler running, and then you wind up with tons of stacks of ammo. Yeah, you'll go through it quickly, but it won't be so harsh to replenish it all because you have highly efficient infrastructure in place.
Combat in this game is a real buzzkill. You get to the point where you can use guns and realize that every shot you take with that longneck is 12 pieces of burned wood and 4 metal ore mined. First, wood takes forever to burn. Charcoal, poop, eggs, spoiled meat, smelting, these things all take time, I don't even think you can address it with rate changes on unofficials. You'll be waiting forever for those resources to be ready to use, even if gathering them can be made fairly easy. The fact that the metal spent on a bullet weighs hundreds of times more than the actual metal in the bullet is ridiculous, then the bullet in the end weighs many times more than a real, equivalent bullet would.
This is a huge point of contention for me. They want to balance overdamage and harvesting, but they've built up the entire meta for this game around everything taking ridiculous amounts of time to gather resources for. Then, instead of taking time to balance overdamage and the resource model, they waste time/money on tournaments blown up by bad judging/aimbots and halloween events introducing a skeleton for probable microtransaction support (you just wait and see what costumes come out).
It'd be way better if they did something along the lines of giving resources durability. Imagine if you chopped down a tree, and instead of 80 wood you just got 2-3 wood logs and some thatch. Then, instead of requiring a full sized log to make one pickaxe, you use like 5/100 units of wood from the log. Instead of 20 metal ingots to make a handful of bullets, you can do it with one, though you don't walk away from a rich node with 50 ore anymore. Now you can actually use your guns for fun.
I get that the dinosaurs are the focus, and that's fine. It doesn't change that, as is, the dinosaurs are just plain boring. Dinosaur mechanics need a complete overhaul. Clicking one button to do everything sucks.
Shepard. Post a screenshot of your map so I can find you.
My bird can get your raptor out.
Combat is pretty disappointing, yeah. Bases are far too vulnerable to offline attacks, guns take too many resources to use in any sort of protracted combat, and on top of that, I feel like they don't offer any compelling reasons to use them since they're essentially just more damage dealt in a shorter amount of time.
Outside of the specific issue of combat though, I'd say the biggest issue with the game is that players don't really have a goal on official servers. It's led to strange situations like, "We've just managed to kill all these other guys and crush them until they quit, but now what do we do?" And when that happens, people start quitting because who cares how much metal you mine and how much polymer and electronics you've created when no one's ever going to bother you again. It's like when the Chinese come and rape a server into submission until everyone leaves, the Chinese leave as well because there's no more pillaging to be done.
It'd be nice if at the end of the day, I felt more compelled to build these bases and make this ammo because we had a specific goal in mind with all of it instead of just killing some other guys because they slighted one of our tribemates.
I found you, but I need to you to not be offline so I can pull you out.
The retarded ass devs fixed that.
Now if you want to take prisoners you have to drag them by hand!
>We think taking prisoners is a great feature in the game <devs
>So we've made it impossible to transport them at all other then dragging them!
>Don't forget if your damaged, jump or go through waist high water you drop them!
Could you theoretically keep someone narc'd permanently? Is there any way to suicide while under the effects of narcotics?
I was thinking of capturing someone and locking them in a box or something. Also, can I forcefeed someone feces to kill them?
If you actually manage to get that person to a secure place sure.
Its impossible to make a prison or anything because you will NOT be able to drag someone to it.
At best what your able to do is knock someone out.
Build a base near the place you knocked them out while keeping their torpor high with narco.
Put them in the room with a narcotic trap.
Baby sit their ass forever or until they log off.
The current problem with the prisoner system is this.
Having one of your tribemembers get captured on purpose actually is a boon because if they leave the game running the other team will feed them 1000+ narco over the course of 1-2 hours, as well as have 1-2 people babysit that person.
These devs are fucking retarded.
They at least admit there is a problem with no end goal and seem to have something in mind, though the truth is they can at best delay reaching the end and a few hundred hours is a pretty good amount of time spent before reaching it. There's just no real joy in doing it. You do something new and it's fun and great, then you realize you need to spend 20 hours doing that same thing. It quickly becomes apparent how simple the thing you're is and how uninvolved you are while interacting with the world, and your cool project becomes a tedious waste of time.
Offline raids are a problem but there's a real lack of viable solutions to it. I haven't yet seen a solution that is both functional and could be applied to servers that already exist without fucking over some fraction of the players. In a game like TF2, no one cares if you randomly change the official server to only be active for a few hours, because you can just play on another server without losing anything. In Ark, you just lost hundreds of hours of work. Could be fixed with more wipes so they can actually test new models for the servers.
The worst part about guns is how utterly irrelevant dinosaurs make them. No gun out matches even mediocre carnivores. There's almost no reason to even use the guns unless you're in one of a few fringe cases or you're running an aimbot. So, you just farmed for an hour to make a couple dozen bullets and put your gun together, you burn through your ammo in a couple minutes, and have done less than you would have if you were just fighting on a carnivore instead of doing things on foot.
It's retarded that literally the best way to fight your enemies is to make metal foundations for them to destroy or give up on. It's a game where you can hurt your enemies the most by forcing them to actually play the game more.
Why the fuck did they think it was a good idea for rex's to be able to get stuck on fucking pebbles? I could see if they could be picked up by anything, or even if they could fucking jump. But the only way to get out of two pebbles trapping your rex is to wiggle out and hope for the best. Stupidest thing ever,
What I dont get when I was playing survival of the fittest, my tribe was hiding out in a cave and a mammoth couldn't get us through the door, but two t-rexes straight plowed through and killed us. Shit made no goddamn sense.
I've played a million and a half survival games but this one sticks out to me and has left me feeling pretty satisfied, it's still a buggy mess but for early access it's really well polished and while I disagree with the devs vision for some things I have to admit that they're pretty phenomenal. I can't even pick up other survival games right now because I keep comparing them to ark.
A rex is technically only 2 walls high but its model is 3 or 4 walls high, it can fit through a regular dino gate, it's fucking stupid and a major oversight from the devs imo
Mammoth is too wide which is the problem, same reason sarco doesn't fit. Collision for all the models is just pants on head retarded
>Knock the creature unconscious
Use your fists, a club, a slingshot, a bow with tranq. arrows, or a longneck with tranq. darts
>Put berries in the inventory
Berries for herbivores
Meat for carnivores
You'll eventually start making kibble from eggs which herbivores and carnivores will eat but only a specific kind that the specific species prefers.
>What is a carnivore/herbivore?
Is it trying to eat you?
Well the idea behind being "unraidable" here is not a stupidly high base defense but stupidly high base concealment. If something is not found it does not get blown up. That way it is built "forever" - if you make sure noone finds out. And that is probably harder than it sounds but oh well, only one way to find out.
The strawpoll ( http://strawpoll.me/5901141/r ) is at 8 people theoretically ready to join - if people see that it works I assume that number will grow, though one also has to consider that some of those people might not be as available as one would hope.
If noone offers a less gay alternative, I'd suggest everyone who wants to join in on this project to add me on Skype. The adress is "wolfi92" (no I am not a godforsaken furry heretic, don't worry). I'll make a little group for our tribe so that we can get organized and don't have to shit into the threads too much.
>what is this nigger talking about I am not scrolling up
Found a way to build a base out of bounds, turning it theoretically near-impossible to get found by enemies as long as noone fucks up. Abusing that we could rise to power on an official server relatively easily. Some people are interested so I say let's have a go at it.
I'll prepare the base a tiny bit more before I go to bed. (Germany-timezone, obviously.)
>finally find dodorex
>pick up a zomdodo
>it disappears and so does the flock when the dodorex does
I could have been farming metal
Prepared the first two floors of the out-of-bounds autism tower. We got lots of storage, fireplace, mortar, torch and a cooking pot. I also prepared a bed but didn't place it yet since the tribe is not yet created and I am not sure what happens if I place the bed before I do but whatever. We don't have many ressources yet, of course. The tower will be made out of 3*3 floors so it's comfy but not that tight.
Anyway, we're ready to start tomorrow. All that's left to do is getting organized on Skype (unless people decide that shit is not neccessary).
Sorry for waving my dick around in here so much today. Again, when someone makes a new thread it would be amazing if that someone could include this little project into the OP (include the stawpoll: http://strawpoll.me/5901141/r ). Who knows? Maybe, if nothing else, we'll soon have some more shit to actually talk about in here if we get this rolling.
Is there a map of ARK somewhere that has where the highest concentrations of metal ore, obsidian, and other resources are? I know mountaintops in general have a lot, but I'm trying to find some emptier locations so I find less people at them.
I warn all of you not to get attached to your things. Play like you're going to lose it all, because as soon as you bother someone enough, they will hunt you down, and when they can't find you, they'll report your hiding spot.
I've been looking for something like this for the longest time, fast herbivore with good carry weight and stamina. Best I could find before was an Elk or Bigfoot, and Bigfoot was a massive pain in the ass to tame only to dump a ton of points into move speed and weight.
>Start back at level 1
>Nothing to do but run around and farm resources with shitty stone tools
>Decide to get a club and knock out animals instead for taming for shits and giggles.
>Knock out a raptor, two steggos, and an anklyo even though I'm level 8 and can't possibly use them.
>Beat the shit out of them with the billyclub while they sleep instead of using narcoberries because I can't farm them fast enough.
>Finish taming them at level 10, stuff them all into a thatch barn.
40 more levels to go and I can ride the anklyo. Woo.
I was just curious. There was a small span earlier when no one else was on, but I've been on for a bit, watching my buddy do speed-run practice on Symphony of the Night, and forgot I was on, almost starved to death. Holy shit.
Yeah, I was just curious. I'm having a blast and it's nice to have somewhere to fuck around and not be fucked with for the most part. Thanks for having it up.
Looks like I've been the only one on for a while now, if you want to update, just let me know and I can hop off for a bit. Your call though.
Hey, so noone seems interested in the Skype group so I guess we're not doing that. So I expect operation "Autism Tower" to work like this: We meet up ingame and organize through tribe chat etc.
Come to OfficialServer42, spawn at East 1, go to the beach in front of the cave. That will be our meetup point. I'll build a little checkpoint there.
Bonus points if you dye your clothes black so that we can recognize each other and don't end up shooting each other with rocks.
The out-of-bounds base is prepared so we can store our shit and craft though for now, we should just focus on XP and hide anyway.
Also I changed my name to something even less creative, as you can see.
Had an awesome 72 hours playing with three pals on a private server. Suddenly they wanna move on and I am crushed at having to abandon our awesome little house and our tamed dinos. I didn't expect the ride to end so abruptly but I think I will give the PVE server a shot.
Find this cute little hut - that's our checkpoint / meeting point (if anyone is even awake/available yet). Like I said and as you can see it's at the SE cave. By the way: We'll have a raft very soon.
I would love to have a tameable waifu.
You knock her unconcious but then you feed her your dick and your seed. If you can keep her unconcious until your heir is born she will stay with you and only commit suicide after they've become self-sustaining.
>tfw finally tame two Trikes and a Carnotaurus
>Trying to lead them back to my base
>Get lost on the way back
>End up in some swamp, have to swim across lake
>Piranhas out the ass
>One trike dies, carnotaurus gets stuck on an underwater log
>Piranhas eat me
>Can't find where I was so now the carnotaurus and other trike are still alive but in bumfuck nowhere
>No way to recall them to me
I was actually thinking about trading anklyos for blueprints and metal tools. I'm sure some already established people would love to trade shit they make with stuff they've got lying around, and now that I've got several crop plots going full blast, I won't have trouble taming an excess of doediceruses and anklyos in my area.
I wonder what the conversion rate for anklyos to items would be? It'd be nice if someone would make me a sniper rifle for one, but I'm thinking it's probably asking too much, unless the anklyo was 60-80+. It'd be a pretty big jumpstart though, especially if I traded for forges, smithys, and fabricators with some blueprints.

[MORE NOTES TO COME]
Found a Male Skeletal Alpha TRex lv 24 on the PvE server right now, if someone wants it.
THE NIGGER KILLED ME AND MY PRECIOUS RAPTOR.
How good are tamed dinos at defending your base?
Would a few tamed spinos be enough to slow down attackers for any amount of time, or would they just shoot them at range/kite them away and go about their business? I've heard of some tribes filling their buildings full of turtles with as much health as they could stack on them to slow people down, but that just gets annoying in my book.
>flying around the map to repair/refuel outposts and feed other dinos
>finally done, going home
>spot a quetzal, decide to inspect because why not
It's not like I wanted to play other games or anything.
Yes Dinos are fucking retarded.
You leave a spino out prepare for it to be dead.
The exception is dilos, they are expendable because it takes less then 10 mins to tame one even faster on increased rates.
So here's a little update on the new NoFunAllowed tribe on OfficialServer42 and it's autism tower hidden in the unholy depths of Glitchenburg.
We got 3 members so far - which is to be expected seeing as it is just the first day. We now got metal tools so we can equip new members with axe, pickaxe, pike and crossbow. We also have a raft - there seems to be no active tribe on veggie islands, apparently there was one but it got fucked judging by the ruins on it. So we can get metal, hide and meat. I also made a narco berry farm but I just planted it so it'll still take a while.
As for the tribe activity on that server, it seems there are 2-3 tribes that are friendly with each other - at least in chat. Only once have I seen someone flying over the coast and he had no interest in fucking noobs. So it should be relatively easy to stay concealed.
Next on the agenda is getting more metal, equipping the raft with an little base and also taming a frog. Because frogs are amazing.
>How do I join?
Simply log in on OfficialServer42, spawn at East 1 and go south (probably, depending on your spawn) to the cave entrance. You'll see a cute little wooden shed with a torch on top of it - that's our meeting point. I'll come by pretty often and also always park the raft next to it. But since even I am sometimes doing other shit then autistic videogames you can also add me on Skype so we can organize - add "wolfi92". (I gotta go in 45mins btw.)
Had to go for a while.
The giant pile of dino shit spawned right on top of my base, near Fen's pen.
I was looking at it through my spyglass. I turn around for five seconds and nexy thing I know my raptor and I were gobbled up in three chomps by the niggersaur.
RIP Bonnie ;_;7 You were my closest pal for the two days i had you.
>put all my skins on the obelisk
>put the 200 wieght worth of shit on too
>begin summoning witch hat
>consumes everything, hear crafting sound
>nothing ever comes out
>out all my skins for nothing
Breeding can make some monstrous dinos even more monstrous than they already are, so I'm fine with breeding being a tedious process. Creating a T-Rex with 50 levels in health and melee damage should be a long, tedious task because the payoff is amazing.
Though actually, I wish it was more of a time investment rather than something you have to sit an micromanage, same goes for taming. There's a lot of dinos that aren't hard to tame, only needing someone to check up on them every once in a while, but then there's stuff like Diamaphoons and Plesiosaurs who have their torpor bars deplete in 2-4 minutes and essentially require your full attention for several hours, along with a large resource investment, and crossed fingers that no one comes around to fuck with you.
Hey, im keeping an eye on seeing if the update drops today, so as soon as i can ill shut the server down to update. And im gonna increase the baby growth rate, im sorry but that shit is retarded long.I do not want sit on a goddamn dino for 9 hours straight to make sure it doesnt starve, just to wait for it to grow outta baby stage. not to mention unless you cook all of that meat, half of it spoils.
This is for NFA PvP btw, throw me a couple of ideas of what mods you guys might want on the server too. I know most of you have said the glass mod and stairs/rounded walls too.
How do I organize a tribe into an effective force?
I want to get some people together and keep them focused long enough to actually establish a base and defend themselves, but everyone just wants to do their own thing and then complain with other people kill their dinos and break their shit. Other tribes are so much better at responding to threats, people I recruit just tend to run for the hills as soon as someone starts attacking.
Also, how do I kill birds effectively?
Am I the only one that's found their interest in the game severely waning? I've got 1293 hours put into the game and really have nothing bad to say about it, but just over the last month I've found myself not being able to play it for any real period of time before I decide it's time to play something else. Maybe
definitelyI'm just burnt out on it or maybe it's just a lack of really substantial content that's gotten me to this point. Who knows?
It is ridiculous that you have to sit there and apply the narco to tame. My first tame I thought I could just leave some narcoberries in the inventory and have the dino eat them. Nope, I had to manually use them. The dino eats berries and meat on its own, why can't I just apply some sleepy juice to the berries the dino eats? The system is so stupid.
What are you going to increase it to?
Also I noticed that taming is x5 instead of x4.5, was anything else tweaked?
My votes for mods:
>Stairs Mod with Rounded Walls
>Ceilings now line up with foundations
>Pillars no longer poke through walls
>Ramps no longer stick out of walls
>Temp building mod
>Temp 1hp scaffolding for maximum autism buildings
>Mods I'd be against
Overhauls, conversions, any of those snowflake tech tiers with stupid or unnecessary things like a flamethrower, katana or photon laser rifles
I found that the detailed textures and shadows are to blame for this shit fps(uses all my gpu's vram). Once I took off detailed textures, the game ran smoothly.
As for the pop, I dont think that is much of an issue because the servers only have 70 slots. High pop is only good if you want to attack random people. This game is the best when there are just a dozen or so people that are online a lot.
Want to know a secret if you're rich and incredibly lazy? Eating food (Or taking narcotics) causes an effect to happen over time. For narcoberries, the creature in question gains 8 torpor over 3 seconds.
Say you've got a creature that finishes taming in 5 hours. That's 300 minutes, or 18000 seconds. If you feed them 6000 narcoberries (600 weight in berries, or 20 crop plots worth), you're free to never have to check up on them because the duration their torpor will be increasing will continue for longer than their tame bar will last. Use a script or similar to force that many down their throat without getting carpel tunnel.
Sure, you probably don't have that many narcoberries laying around because you're not an autist like I am and built 20 crop plots, fertilizing them every day with the crap machine known as a phiomia. But if you do, you too can be a faggot and tame things the easy way.
(Also note, this applies to you as well -- you can feed yourself 1800 berries and never run out of food for a full hour.)
lag still exists but it's not anywhere near as bad as official.
Every 15 minutes is an autosave which will cause slightly worse lag but it's very brief and hasn't got me killed or anything yet
I play with my brother and only my brother.
Even then we have problems agreeing with things. I don't want to sound like an asshole or call you names but leadership is just one of those things you know you have because you see results.
When you talk on vent or ts does everyone talk over you?
When you make a suggestion to people carry it out?
Are people trying to appeal to you in order to score brownie points?
If no to any of these then your fucked because you lack the respect needed to lead and its too late with your group of friends to change their perspective of you.
Its why I play the game in bursts.
Its even worse with prisoners. Keeping a prisoner means you need to constantly babysit a human who takes 500 narco per hour.
Effectively making you the prisoner as well because you will do nothing productive except feed him narc.
Join NFA PvP, PvE will leave you with an empty feeling.
But that just might be ark in general
I'm not very good at being a leader because I myself am bad at following orders. I don't take orders, nor do I like to give them, so I don't really understand what motivates people to follow tasks.
I was trying to lead by example, but ultimately that led to me fighting a defense for the main tribe base alone because no one else really felt any reason to defend it. I'm beginning to think giving people responsibilities and rules helps structure them and makes them invest themselves into something. Man craves order, not freedom.
Its a combination of both.
It helps if you get over your autism, you have to pick up on audio cues, which is hard because its only audio online.
Know when to give order when people are receptive and when to back off when they're not.
But, no matter how good of a leader you are you are going to deal with fuck heads and you might just have a whole team of fuck heads.
I had Euro fuckheads for a while as my tribemates.
>I'm going to do take a scorpion to get meat.
>Don't do that I did that yesterday and there is a glitch which gets you stuck on the river.
>O.K but that won't happen to me, I'll be careful
>10 minutes later, he is telling me how the Scorpion is stuck on the river.
Games like this only make you cynical about people.
Reminds me of my time in EVE.
>Look, don't go run sites today unless you've got someone watching all the wormhole exits, we've got two direct null connections and one into a C5 that's populated by Russians.
>"Hey boss, I lost my tengu to some gankers today, got me before I knew they were coming, can I get a replacement?"
>Hey guyz I just bought a scorpion!!11
How'd you afford it?
>Got it with plex, its also got all faction modules!!111
>I'm going to go into nullsec while we are wardecked with a high sec corp and have some shit going on with a null-sec corp!
>Oh man I got blew up in the first 15 minutes
>Better go buy more plex!
>Wardecked by some faggot high sec corp
>Idiot members are all getting podded because they can't into avoidance in high sec.
>They are always flying something expensive as fuck
>They can't understand why we are constantly wardecked
Faggots in EVE just want to become the next E-celeb. They don't understand core game concepts or simple logic.
Use ceilings for flooring.
Ceilings can go up to two tiles away from the foundation they're fixated on. Any more past that, you're gonna have to put pillars under the 2nd ceiling until it reaches the ground. Then put two more ceilings past the now pillar-supported ceiling, and continue as necessary.
Your first mistake was starting with a foundation.
Start with a pillar first, use ceilings and pillars to level something out.
By building two levels of pillars on top of each other you will raise the snappoint of the foundation to make it above ground.
So your first step will be levelling with pillars and ceilings.
Then you want to replace ceilings with foundations.
If it doesn't allow you place a foundation try building two pillars up on the ceiling next to where you want to place the foundation, that should allow you to snap a foundation.
Look at the scientific name for it, it's clearly meant to be the short faced bear, just that "short faced bear" isn't a bad-ass creature name so they called it a dire bear instead.
I tamed my first dino(a parasaur), made a saddle, and then got killed almost instantly by a random autoturret. No warning signs, just autoturrets in my face killing me. Is there an easy way for a noob to destroy someone's turrets? The fact that the owner set the turret to kill indiscriminately without any warning just rustles my jimmies.
My advice? Let it go.
If you're adamant about payback, bide your time, tame some bullet sponge turtles and waste all their ammo. Only when you're certain that they're out of bullets, huck grenades or use an RPG to destroy them.
That's what turrets do, son. They simply attack anything that comes in their area, no possibility to "only attack people from this tribe" or anything like that.
Even on a PvE server, I still get mad I can't set them to "only attack hostile carnivores" or something like that.
Tame a turtle and have it tank the bullets. Do this again every day. You will have caused far more damage to that anon than he ever could to you.
And yeah, on my server, I actually paint signs far enough out with WARNING TURRET on them to try and avoid that. I don't want people wandering into them anymore than possible, it's a huge waste of ammo.
I think I'm gonna do this. I'll leave a note, or put up a sign telling him I'll do this every day until he put up some damn signs near all his turrets. I suppose I could be a good samaritan and put up a sign myself, but fuck that, I want my petty revenge.
Don't leave any indication it's you. If the owner knows its you, he can retaliate. If he can't figure out who the fuck is wasting all of his ammo, he'll have no choice but to put up warnings or otherwise reduce his ammo use.
>u are rip
but tunder says I'm alive. Apparently she's looking at my body right now.
>NFA is reborn on OfficialServer42 though ;^)
Ugh, fuck ever going to back to official servers. I'm not even sure if I"ll be sticking around on NFA. I'm still kinda in burntout mode with this game.
>trying to troll so hard you edit OUT punctuation
Such a cutie.
>deleting the punctually correct post
Tbh not really i hate this game so much right now cause of playing solo but i dont want to join a tribe cause of the fact only like 3 play on NFAPVP
Im thinking on join server 42 but i dont want it to end up like 8 and be over in a week
To the anons looking for a small group to play with, my group lost interest but I still haven't had enough of the game. I started playing on the PVE server alone but I want to get a small tribe together
Here's my base
I've never been raided once, I play on a high pop custom Aussie server, most nights we have 70+ players on.
There a 4 main large warring tribes and smaller sphere of influence tribes attached to each duking it out along with a bunch of one man tribes like myself.
I am doing the best of all the one man tribes, I have friended my nearest major tribe and more or less made my base unfuckable I think.
I follow a few rules.
-dont wall of large areas
-don't tame ANYTHING until you have a small yard with at least 4 mature plant X's guarding it
-check who that is before you PVP them to avoid getting large tribes angry with you
-then turrets turrets turrets
I have 3 indoor and 3 out door turrets with 2 sec warnings set to medium player/tame shit, indorr turrets have no warnings and all the plant X's as you can see.
Our server has max wild rank as 60 to help stop the megs rexs going around being OP and it works pretty well. My rex in the base is at 20k and climbing and 1000% melee DMG.
I feel safe and haven't been hit once in a month since we had a wipe.
Playing solo is easy and fun and i have everything.
As you can see in the background I am building or have built a shitty stone pen for larger and less valuable dino's.
I hate behe gate walls and wish to hang all that do it.
this is at the base of the green ob just to the NW side on the 1st waterfall
this was my first base ever and pre wipe i invited the server to come wipe it.
She lasted through 15 minutes of sustained hell (all stone this one not steel) and in that time they only killed all the plant x's, I had not turrets and they had killed all the dinos etc. Not yet even in the doors or the safes then the server wiped. So I'd say my new ones pretty safe.
This was the end result of being attacked.
Note that about 5-6 Carno's, 3 Rex's, a few Spino's, countless Argie's and Perta's along with sinpers in the hills and foot attackers all perished during this attack.
With only me defending ti and a few AI dino's.
It cost them so much more than what they would have ever got.
3/10 location, though I assume with populations like that the really good, defensible positions were already taken so 5/10
I'm not sure whether it's your base design, the raiders were just shit, or both, but nice job.
I wonder how I'm going to put one on a platform. If its underwater will it be irrigated, or will it only get watered when it rains and on the surface. I wish you could place pipes on platforms so I could have a well next to them just in case.
Pipes and crop plots were previously impossible to place on platforms but maybe that will change with the plots being added now
If all else fails it could always be manually watered etc
>Tame first Raptor
>It dies less half an hour later
The worst part was it got caught between a Bronto and a Gigantosaurus. Every time I tried to saddle it to ride it to safety it would run back in to the melee, get knocked back and run straight back in until it was dead.
I really wish there was a pet recall command
Dilo's make better waifus, they are the same size.
So has anyone seen that raptor waifu webm?
You know the one i'm talking about...
All of my friend's stuff, fort and all, got wiped out on an official server because some high level player thought they stole kibble off of a tame (they're all around level 30-40, guy was like 80)
how exactly does PvP balance in this game anyway? Aren't all low level players essentially at the mercy of higher leveled tribes on the server, especially without any base defense tech like turrets?
That's the point. You're supposed to go full gorilla or Jesus if you're high level and full stealth or sub when you're low.
As in any other multi-player game with level-based PvP.
There were 20 people on last week.
10 people on last night.
The problem is a bunch of shitter tribes got wiped and quit.
Ug Nug quit for personal reasons as well.
The server pop is not going to go up unless people join.
You can't really blame them. Spawns take up almost all of the beach area and are fairly random. It's not their fault the spawning system is retarded because "hurr anything goes."
In single player/PvE? Expect marginally higher difficulty to survive, high level dinos are easy to kill with low level tames, just not alphas.
In PvP? Expect any semblance of balance to disappear and being forced to tame things for hours just to get something that might almost be useful in a fight.
Will NFAPvE be updated when the new patch hits today?
