Posting again because I didn't see we were at bump limit
How likely is it that Soul Hackers is going to go on sale again soon? Money is kind of tight right now but I'm almost done Overclocked and it's tempting.
>I wouldn't say that getting btfo only involves getting insulted on the internet, and pretending that the other guy speaks like a baby.
I love that you're citing things that happened after you got BTFO and trying to save face by claiming that's what happened.
It's so adorable.
Why isn't Greco-Roman mythology more prevalent in SMT? I mean I know there are some things like Cerberus but there is more of an emphasis on Christianity (understandable given the themes in the franchise), and Hindu/Buddhist and Japanese mythologies.
Is this mostly because of cultural differences? Where as a westerner I place more importance on Greco-Roman mythology? I'd like to see the Olympians have a greater role.
You were born to be a trickster, anon.
Don't deny your nature and put points into STR since you want that so much.
Be a smooth talker and just be good at fusing.
Don't listen to >>121207579
He's probably a jealous yurop that only wishes you bad.
I think maybe 5 or 8 months. If your backlog is big then wait. But if you can still live without that money and you can afford eating instant ramen for two days, then go for it.
Soul Hackers is a more enjoyable game than DeSu in my opinion.
I was merely jesting for humorous purposes, sorry.
But the same games aren't always on sale so close to one another.
These things take a while, and if not, then I give it at least 3 months before the next sale hits.
Just beat the Angels (fought all 4 at once). Is that all, or do I have to find Michael now before I can go to the Sun? Michael was the worst of the lot (spamming Medigolihan or however your call it) and I really don't want to fight him again. Got a new mantra, though.
I'm not a HOY poster, but I feel that they have been missing recently.
hoy is always here, in the hearts of everyone
>Made it through most of SMT IV without a guide
>Saving Neutral for NG+
>Pretty sure I'll get Chaotic
>Somehow get Neutral
>Come back to game 2 months later
>Realize I was an idiot and decided to balance my stats
Should I just finish it now, or restart?
they're standalone games, outside of a reference to Nakajima giving you Pascal in SMT 1
KMT was made after SMT 1 and 2, and it improves on both of their systems, so it can be painful to go back to the older games from it
You HEEmage is very inspiring HO!
I guess you HOY guys are better than what I imagined.
No. You distributed your stats in the most neutral way possible and now you're gonna deal with it.
You'll be fine, let your demons do the heavy lifting and support them.
Thanks. I actually restarted my save. Which was a little bit after the Try not to feel too bad part. But I restarted because the new patch released and I wanted to change the name of my characters.
I wanted to post the picture of a happy protag, but this is the best I've got.
Persona 1 is really beginning to irritate me
I hate the card system and how it puts out personas well above your level, I hate the slow UI, I hate the voice acting, I hate the boring negotiations and I hate how the music doesn't match the tone
but the battle system and dungeon graphics are nice. I really wish they polished the systems more in the remake and sequels, there's a lot of interesting ideas in here
It would appear to be so, this is a tad ironic since
I'm a Lawfag
Also because I didn't talk to any demons after Kasumigaseki in my first playthrough. Big difference I noticed between SMT1 and SMT4 was the effect the compendium has on my will to negotiate.
>maybe use the name from the cast of Seinfield
this is never the wrong choice
I just really love the atmosphere, the jpop isnt so bad to me, battle system is as your said a good idea in need of polish
I forgot the fucking image.
Also, I gave the heroine some half assed name, since I never saw her in the fanart, and I didn't think of something for her beforehand. How should I call her?
If it is not as the cast of Seinfield.
I don't know how much of it is the jpop since i'm using the music patch, but the music is just fucking weird
For example they get rid of the spooky SEBEC HQ dungeon theme for a bright, happy song while
the scientist is trying to kill himself along with Kandori. It makes no sense
Main character: smtg
Law Hero: pg
Chaos Hero: jrpgg
Thats more smug than happy>>121220214
Yes. And make sure to wear fabulous clothes at all times.
Try new things for your playthrough.
But Elaine is a grill, and she is as neutralfag as it gets.
I cannot think of anyone being a better protag than Jerry, so that only leaves us with Kramer and George.
Hacker seems to be the happiest protag there is.
Followed by Nakajima and Piercy (but Nakajima is a happy psycho, so I can't really tell).
And then Demi-Fiend whenever he is drawn with Pixie.
Of course Yu doesn't count.
But surprisingly now I realize that canonwise, most of the protags are either emo, autistic, or deadpan.
Flynn is happy so often its a game mechanic
I can't stop thinking of the cast of DDS.
And I haven't even completed DDS2.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always considered Smirk to be part of a sly attitude.
As if he was proper and serious most of the time, but whenever he is on the battlefield he becomes confident and smug.
I still need to play Devil Summoner, but he seems like a very confident individual. Kinda like Lupin the third 2.0.
Bunny is just happily autistic.
Isn't the part around 1:36 strangely similar to Mega Man's 2 Wily stage number 1?
Costanza = Law Hero
Kramer = Chaos Hero
Jerry = Protagonist
Elaine = Heroine
Everything balances out for Jerry by his own admission, George has a weird fixation on rules and practices, and Kramer is pure chaos.
>clear the level in Overclocked where Angels and Demons or fighting each other
>decide to leave the Yamanote circle with Honda
>suddenly everyone dies
So I assume I'm not supposed to leave?
>Flynn loses his virginity to Isabeau
>Burroughs pops in "Congratulations on completing the quest!"
I need a Flynn/Burroughs sitcom in my life.
I've been less time on 4chan in general thanks to being sick + work + backlog + internet problems.
And since /smtg/ is lot less ded than a month ago, there's less need for random Hoy bumps.
Hoy bumps are always great, but I too have been slacking due to college.
Welp. I just beat a SMT game for the first time.
I see what you mean about Law being the best ending. There wasn't any of the CONSEQUENCES that were shown in the Blasted Tokyo.
All-in-all, this series seems really cool. The battle system isn't tied down much, and there's plenty of depth with your party makeup. After the Neutral Route, what game comes next for someone sampling the series?
>any of the CONSEQUENCES that were shown in the Blasted Tokyo
Did sucking all of the people left in the old world into a black hole not count or something?
Anyway if you want something close to IV in playstyle Nocturne is probably the next place to go.
What about DDS? I like the idea that it touches on Eastern theology, which I'm more or less clueless about. Is the gameplay similar?
And is SJ similar in playstyle? I know it's basically mainline without a number.
DDS is the same battle system but no demon fusion amd addition of fusion spells.
Strange Journey doesnt have the same battle system but it has demon party recluitment.
Nocturne is very close to SMT IV.
Do note though that the MC death in Nocturne and SJ means game over.
Good night smtg
Yeah, first time I laughed at it is after killing Issachar, and after the team mentioned most people that have been reading the books were turned into demons, which means Flynn was killing his village people the moment he stepped into the forest.
>congratulations on completing the quest
Ok, so I restarted Soul Hackers and I'm going to the Astro Museum now. I'm focusing on Luck and Agility while putting some points on Endurance. Is this ok? Also, how much the difficulty hack app changes the game?
In a way, I'm glad that Hoy bumps aren't needed anymore since it means that the general is more active though. It seems so long ago when /smtg/ kept dying with 200~300 posts.
I almost got sued because of that once. Be careful.
I'm new to this, and actually playing Soul Hackers now.
I might not know my shit yet, but I hear it's better to level up strength, agility, and endurance. Luck is kind of negligible.
Luck is mandatory as far as I know. It's a lot more useful than Agility. Endurance is mandatory of course.
I'm going 90% Mag and 10% Agility with Nemissa. Basically a magic glass cannon.
Eh, if you want a more standard build you can simply go with End/Agi. Str doesn't do much in the long run though since damage comes more from the weapon's stats rather than MC's Str stat.
EU or NA? Even then, pretty good catch. Congrats.
Increases critical hit rate, evasion, accuracy with guns and swords, item drop rate, chance of avoiding status ailments (including Hama/Mudo) and also seems to influence negotiations.
I'm a big SMT fan that decided to finally play Persona.
Finished P3FES and despite all its faults it was pretty decent for a spinoff. Nothin' too flashy in terms of combat, storyline had many flaws but was overall enjoyable, etc. Solid 7/10 spinoff
I just finished vanilla P4 as well and it was so fuckin' stupid and underwhelming that I can't even.Could somebody explain to me the appeal of Persona 4? What I experienced was a very predictable plot. Every once in a while you save someone, rinse repeat. All main characters showed they were main right from the first moment they appeared, so nothin' surprising there.
It ended in a 'lel so random' way, and along the way it had absolutely nothing SMT ralated in it at all, unlike P3. Some demon designs were bad, dungeons were super bland (same with P3 actually, but at least P3 had interesting fullmoon environments alongside those shitty dungeons)
Social links were boring and made me feel like I'm watching the most generic anime ever, and the main theme was literally power of friendship.
Soundtrack was considerably worse too imo
The appeal are the waifus and thats literally a playable slice of life game.
I enjoyed it but not enough for interest in the spinoff, the port or really replaying it (Persona is far less replayable than SMT)
If you mean the Etrian Odyssey general, because /eog/ a shit
and heres a bigger version of the first page, dunno why I still have the small one
It's been almost 4 years since I last played an SMT game (last one I played was Nocturne).
In the meantime I've went through college and majored in Japanese
Anything untranslated that's really worth playing?
Please tell me there is. I'm sick of raw anime and untranslated VNs
Increase base melee attack. Only noticeable in the beginning. It also serves as a requirement for some equipment later on.
Level 24 with 12 Luck and my MC is dodging almost everything. He completely avoids all ailment magic too.
Having some trouble with it. I included the pictures and I think it's fuckin' it up. 'Bout to go to lunch and I'll try again when I get back.
Perhaps, but it was a great intro point for me when I read it a year-ago.
>Perhaps, but it was a great intro point for me when I read it a year-ago.
I agree with this. When I first got into SMT that article was quite informative about the general "layout" of the games.
Looks like I got it into a Word document on my Kindle (I think; I was simultaneously trying to put a mobi version on it too and I'm not sure which it is).
I'll post it when I get back and when I make sure the formatting is good.
Luck is more important than agility for Hacker.
Because luck also increases dodge, but it raises your chances of having succesful negotiations, and makes it less likely that you get affected by ailments or hama/mudo.
If I'm drinking pomegranate & raspberry tea, does that make me Chaos or Law?
Persona 4, from what I can tell, is mostly popular because it's an escapist fantasy unlike other megatens - hell, even Persona 3 -where everything is grimdark and gloomy, Persona 4 lets you self insert into this bright, happy world where everyone revolves around you, and you can't go five minutes without someone telling you how great you are and how you're the best friend ever.
I don't know how many Persona threads you've seen on /v/
it's not something that I'd recommend looking into, but a lot of the complaints that get thrown at 3 are pretty interesting. Lots of people hate how none of your party members give shit about you until halfway through the game and they're constantly butting heads, unlike Persona 4 where you instantly unlock social links and everyone is super duper best friends. Junpei and Yukari in particular seem to cop a lot of hate for challenging you or being "a bitch", when they're actually fairly grounded and human characters.
I might be talking out my ass here, but I feel like people don't want those kind of characters in their JRPGs. Instead everything has to be based around constant positive reinforcement, where they're being told that they're unique and special, and that people want to be associated with them.
I hope that all made sense, it's 2 AM and I haven't slept for a good 30 hours
I agree with everything you said.
P4 is a dream come true for escapists. MC's dick sucking is cringe worthy but people like that I guess.
Also, that brings about another point in P4: Ai. Probably the female Social Link with the best writing yet it's one of the most hated waifu because she doesn't start off sucking MC's dick.
>mfw I bought red denims so I can casually cosplay as DeSu's MC.
Now I just need some cool headphones.
I regret nothing
Maijin Tensei 1 and 2 are apparently quite decent Fire Emblem clones
Devil Summoner looks decent
SMT If... which is apparently great and the only mainline title that hasn't been translated
Imagine is now Japanese only , though it was never that good. NINE is a worse, single player version of it from what I've heard, but that's never getting translated
There's also the whole Last Bible series outside of the one game that got brought over here. Apparently the sequels improved on the formula, but obviously I can't comment on that
There's also Giten Megami Tensei which I've heard was okay, but incredibly fucking gory
Not that anon, but I jumped into SMT being really interested in Persona 4, cause slice-of-life and comfy is right up my alley. The more I learned about it, though, the more I realized current Persona is pretty much wish-fulfillment for people who have no lives or no friends.
Don't worry, I'm not gonna sue OP because he is a cool and probably very handsome guy who just made a mistake that could have happened to anyone.
But I still feel bad for fucking up, I'm sorry :^(
As far as I know, yes. Usually two main stats and one or two "sub" stats. Magic is useless on MC and Intelligence isn't all that useful too. So it's a juggle between the other stats.
It's just a case of wanting a ninja MC or a complete tank MC. Making him a damage dealer is kinda risky.
It's ok anon, happens to the best
My brother of african american descent! I'll never use cat headphones though.
I also have a jacket that is the same as Vincent's (minus the italian flag string), so I use that as well.
I got no regrets either.
So ninja MC (my style most likely) would be Endurance, Luck, Agility, maybe a little in Strength.
To make him a tank, I'd put more points towards strength instead of agility.
Am I understanding this right?
Strenght isn't really worth it, because you will never do significant damage to bosses with simple slash attacks. Not to mention that you will be too busy dispensing items, and summoning demons.
If you want to breeze through the dungeons and random encounters, just buy a strong sword for the MC, fuse a sword with a status ailment for Nemissa, and have a strong Zoma.
Yes. Always max Endurance no matter what. The rest is a matter of preference but Luck is really useful in SH. And Agility is very useful in trying to use items as fast as possible.
Trust us, we are harcore hackers.
Having 10 magic points lets you wear the ultimate armor
Oh well, I named my main Kaiji so having no luck is just part of the fun.
>Having 10 magic points lets you wear the ultimate armor
Oh fuck. Completely forgot about that. But it's still possible to cheese the Mag requirement with Incenses and accessories
Oh, no fuck no. Generally is best to focus on STR or MAG.
Source of the character? I'm tired of seeing him on
/tg/'s thread opening post.
Soul Hacker's MC doesn't get any skills. Magical or physical. So he never gets to do much damage with or without Strength boosts. Also by typical SMT standards, if he dies it's game over so you need him to be a tough guy and avoid damage.
It really varies from game to game. I think that is not as viable in SMT I and II, but in Soul Hackers it is because you have Nemissa and Zoma as permanent party members.
I think that all the MCs without skills benefit from being lucky tanks with some agility on the side, and spare points put into INT and MA to endure spells and wear special equipment (which in most cases only require 10 points at most).
With luck being important for negotiations, avoiding status ailments and insta-death spells, and because luck ensures that bullets with status ailments always land.
In DDS and IV either physical or magical builds are viable though. Physical just benefits from criticals and magical from almighty damage.
Always a pleasure to help out fellow hackers, man.
I can be, but I always prefered to give Nemissa a sword with charm. It is more reliable in my opinion, since you don't have to put a single point into Luck in that way.
But that really depends on what kind of sword you want to fuse, and who you're gonna give it to.
If anybody else was interested in that article, here ya go, though I feel silly to have even compiled it anyhow (it's a Word document, with pictures, ended up reading better on my Kindle then the mobi file did).
Also to whoever shared the epub link for the Digital Devil Story book last thread, thanks. I just read some last night.
...It's not exactly the most /literary of books, lol.
what else are you going to spend playcoins on? kid Icarus trophies?
SMT IV and Soul hackers are the only games that use them for anything good.
>I think that there should be a subpastebin explaining the demon's personalities if it doesn't exist already.
The games explains demon personalities clearly though.
Ah yes, that can work too. Marin Karin only hits one enemy right? It's better to use a charm sword then.
If you mean this one (Tips and tricks), then yes.
And for the most part we are discussing about things that aren't covered there.
I was almost certain that there was a subpastebin explaining the demon's personalities, but it isn't on pic related, and it should at least be placed there.
Heres the new pastebin, make sure whoever makes the next thread updates it
>Tips and Tricks
Sorry anon, but you fucked up with liners (the yellow colors) and that alone invalidates the pastebin.
You only updated Soul Hackers, right? If so, I'll give you feedback in a moment.
>MC learns no skills so he will never be your main source of damage
MC learns no skills, so he will never be your main source of damage
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would put a comma in that sentence.
You also need to space:
>Luck helps in negotiations, item drops, and many other things.
Because it doesn't fit with the rest of the structure.
But I love you for what you are doing anon, so don't feel too bad.
Yes. Most of the time, accuracy increases with 2 points in Ag.
Let's see, somthing like this:
>+ 1 Ag = +1 Evasion, + 0 Acc
>+ 1 Ag = +1 Evasion, + 1 Acc
>+ 1 Ag = +1 Evasion, + 1 Acc
this is the most productive we've been in months, dont get used to it
SH isn't that hard of a game, you should be fine but lets see your stats
> Lu helps in negotiations, item drops, and many other things.
Luck's description should be clearer.
>Lu increases accuracy, evasion (both to damaging skills and to ailments, as well as to Hama/Mudo), item drops and negotiation.
And MAYBE success rate of running away
By the way, on the DDS1's tips we have:
>Sell Cells at Full Solar Noise to get the most profit.
Someone should fix it and to add
>except Jack cells, which should be sold at Minimum Solar Noise for maximum profit.
Well, I already beat Mizar and that fight was annoying so no point in giving it a second try now.
I don't know what I'm going for. But if Anguished senpai gives me an option to be with him, I'm super going with him.
I really want his shirt, too
___________Adachi is the killer____________
No. You only get items and special skills if you transfer your save. Items depends on sidequests and skills from dialogue choices.
Also the last party member is decided by the choices you made in both games.
I got spoilered on both DeSus and enjoyed them just fine.
Shin Megami Tensei General, fuck yeah!
I'm down to it, as long as they stream it on friday around the afternoon or evening.
>Does Nemecchi's "levels"/D-souls carry over to NG+?
I read somewhere that it doesn't, I can't tell for sure.
But my source also says that if you bought a demon, it will be unlocked in NG+
I am close to starting NG+, so I'll be able to confirm it soon enough.
I'm also that very same anon.
The book is incredibly similar to what you'd read on a pulp magazine or a fanfiction site. It is not that different from watching a shitty TV show, but it can be fun to pass the time and learn more about Nakajima.
The DS port of SMT 2.
I say SJ, SMT 2 is for hardcore fans of the series
>this guy is still doing this
what a horrifying existence
So I started SMT II a while back and had to stop for a long period of time, is there any way to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing? I did the while section where you hang out with Cerberus, that's the last thing I remember.
I bet it is.
Megami Tensei used to be pretty erotic without taking that aspect too seriously.
Here's a fix Final needs.
If you're going to not fix major problems involving acquiring certain demons that entirely revolve around RNG because mashing buttons like a retard for 80 hours per demon is what we're supposed to call challenging now, can we at least not be fucking locked out of the 3DS' reset function?
Your wording is ambiguous, you want there to be a percent number like there is in every fucking game in over a decade other than 4, or you want my compendium percentage? I can't give that, since it's not in the game, but I have everything that isn't RNG fiends or RNG Famed other than Jean and Siegfried.
they dont take much to max loyalty, but yeah use your items, or just hoard them and never use them like most people
the point is that the MAG you save by not using demons unless its a boss fight wil have your pockets fat
Why are you guys such cunts all the time? I was enjoying how comfy the thread was and just thought I'd share that and you flip out and have to make fun of me for how much I enjoy my time with my friends.
Should I get the MP Recovery app early enough? I heard that it's very OP, or will I need to wait to MP Recovery 2/3/whatever till it's noticeable?
First time playing smt.
I bought smt4 and am currently at tokyo, I'm sitting on 51 app points and was wondering what exactly I should invest in.
I currently bought:
Skill expansion 1
Demon skill 1
I was think of getting another demon skill and maybe fundraiser if it's good.
Btw I'm enjoying this game a lot, loving the atmosphere of it and demon conversations are pretty cool.
scout+ is the one where more demons join right?
I like the scout bonuses that give you stuff just for recruiting demons, but you may have to go through fundraiser and the like to get those.
and MP walk is always a good choice.
Well, a lot of people recommended I start here first.
Not like it's given me a bad impression.
Also I would've started out at nocturne or DDS but my ps3 broke before I could play them.
Scout + is the skill you get after you buy the scout gift and other scout ability that makes them give you money.
I was thinking of getting the mp walk but so far I never had a problem with mp.
Man, I think it would real cool if Persona 5 took advantage of being in the same universe as Devil Summoner.
Imagine going to a demon infested area and running into the Hacker.
Or imagine interacting with the modern age's Raidou Kuzunoha.
Hello there, son of man. May I have a bit of your time to impart some knowledge and wisdom unto you?
I see your Ishtar and raise you a Green YHVH.
I wouldnt fuck them but i would love to have them as daughterfus.
>tfw no Mega Man Battle Network crossover
>no actual digital demons
