>I note out loud that Firaxis seem to tackling the problems that bothered players who stuck with Enemy Unknown the longest: the sense of deja vu ...
>"It’s not necessarily going to be the game with the hardest late game. It might be, depending where you are in the tech tree."
>"But you also might hit a major spike midway through the game, because the aliens have unleashed their UFO on you at that point. We don’t know where those things will show up along the spectrum, but we’re pretty excited by that. We see these difficulty peaks and valleys as opposed to this linear curve."
what the fug
>we decided to address the problems of Enemy Unknown by not actually addressing them and just making ayys assault your base more often than a single scripted mission at a set in-game date
why not bring back the random stitched-together environments of oldcom
why not make the early game more diverse and actually balance perks against eachother so every round isn't so cookie-cutter
why not make a good game
>“But you also might hit a major spike midway through the game, because the aliens have unleashed their UFO on you at that point."
Here for a healthy Air Game in XCOM 2.
>procedurally generated maps are back
>Perks can be mixed and matched better as well ad random perks assigned to soldiers for more unique soldiers and perk combos
Can't you at least keep up with the news in between you continuous whining and bickering?
mods that aren't in the pastebin
Lost EU Maps
>Allows playing the 4 EU maps which are not avaliable in EWI:
>URB_Museum, URB_Museum_Euro, URB_Demolition, URB_GasStation
Long War- Customize the Air Game
>you can customize the stats for the Interceptor, the Firestorm, every single weapon, UFO, and foundry project related to the Air Game.
>You can also modify critical hits, specifically the minimum crit chance, the maximum crit chance, and the critical hit multiplier.
>Long War is often criticized for being opaque and having a significant proportion of important information regarding game mechanics and detailed stats located outside of the game itself (i.e. DGC.ini, the wiki, and the Nexus forums).
>However, the strategic UI is filled with flavour text that, while nice to read, is extremely vague and virtually useless to the player.
>This mod aims to repurpose the space in order to add information that is precise, assists player decisions, and reduces the need to ALT-TAB out of the game to check things.
Long War Mod Manager
>This utility simplifies the installation and removal of Long War mods and can be used as a replacement for PatcherGUI. It also supports some new mod file extensions that allow for the automatic updating of configuration files.
>This can be used to automatically define keyboard commands, add second wave options, or anything else that involves adding lines to a config file.
Long War Customize Unique Soldier Stats
>You can alter the HP, Will, Aim, and Mobility of all the unique soldiers, and if they get a bonus perk (Van Doorn/Zhang), well, you can edit that too.
>This mod is compatible with eclipse666's Patrick - The Plumber - Carlock (for Long War) modification.
>Show all UFO species in Hyperwave Relay info screen.
Virtual Reality Training (for Long War)
>Healthy and non-fatigued soldiers earn XP every day while at the base. Extra XP can be earned by building the Officer Training School and purchasing officer upgrades. Make those rookies useful at last!
>Campaign Summary adds a new menu option to the Situation Room allowing you to view a timeline of major strategic events over your entire campaign.
>It provides high level information about the events and displays an up-to-date world map showing the status of the world including panic levels, satellite coverage, withdrawn countries, and mission info.
Unhealable Red Fog
>With this mod SW Red Fog penalties such as aim and mobility will last until the end of the mission and cannot be healed by medkits, sodlier will penalties remain healable.
All Perks Per Rank
>Gives you all perks in a rank when you choose a perk. You will gain the bonus stats (will, aim, etc) of the chosen perk, but not the other perks. Works with 1, 2, or 3 perks per rank, and in every version of Long War I've tested it on.
Floater Autopsy Tweak
>Changes the placement of the Floater Autopsy so it comes after Xenogenetics instead of after Alien Biocybernetics, while simultaneously making it a pre-req for Alien Biocybernetics
Arc Thrower Range
>Allows you to adjust Arc Thrower range through ini files.
>After installation, go the "Weapons=..." line for the Arc Thrower in DefaultGameCore.ini (by default, it's like 1947, or 1974 if you use the pistol-slot version). Change the iRange variable to something you like.
DR Chipping (for Long War)
>DR Chipping is a minor mechanics tweak that allows DR to be reduced through repeated hits. It is fully compatible with Long War and integrates seamlessly into existing campaigns. It does not overhaul balance, perk, or item stats in any way, it simply adds a new mechanic to the tactical game.
UFO Interception Tweak
>This is an attempt to lessen the impact of "bad luck" RNG during UFO interceptions by doubling the interception time and halving all damage. This prevents your interceptors from getting destroyed by one or two unlucky shots and also makes aborting at low HP a little less risky.
>The dodge, aim and tracking modules have their effects doubled as well. The chance to destroy a UFO has also been adjusted to take into account the halving of damage.
Enhanced Soldier Customization (for Long War)
>This mod allows you to change your soldier's head size, body size and voice pitch from the soldier customisation screen. The range of available skin colours has also been greatly increased - you're no longer limited to skin tones.
>SHIV body size, weapon size and colour can be customised too!
Bugfixes for bonus will and psi
>Instances where psi panic would show 100% but still fail.
>Killing an alien who has mind controlled a soldier will not give that soldier the fallen comrade debuff and should fix the bug with 0 will hopefully.
>If an alien dies while being mind controlled, it will not apply the fallen comrade debuff the the rest of the squad and it will not count as a dead squad member for the xp bonus or prevent 'So others may live' from applying.
>Lots of instances where the bonus will from Neural damping, Combat drugs, Legio Patria Nostra, Esprit de corps and penalties from fallen comrade and battle fatigue didn't apply.
>Psi panic had a fixed duration of 2 turn irregardless of how many turns of panic it rolled. Fixed so duration is the same as nr of panic turns.
>If you target a unit that has neural dampning with psi panic it will show 0% chance to hit.
>Fixed so aliens get the same -35 penalty when using mind control as xcom.
>>Lost EU Maps
Whats the take on this one? Are the maps doable in LW?
That's what I'm talking about. Those stages were kind of buggy and had a lot of textures patched out. Not to mention that there were a lot of pods way too close to each other.
Pretty bored right now, just don't have the will to grind out my vanilla campaign.
Anyone want to play some multiplayer?
That's pretty unclear way to explain it.
Overwatch does not trigger on the first tile of movement. This means If someone enters the edge of you LOS they won't get shot at.
Or if an ayyy is overwatching someone, you could move them one square in any direction and they wouldn't get shot at.
This does not include moving diagonally
>get abduction missions
>either I can reduce panic and get a bunch of useless scientists, or I can lose a country in the first week so I can get enough engineers to staff satellite monitors and build lasers and shit
why does this game hate giving engineers from countries with any panic
tons of money and scientists from guys who could use a terror mission solved but never fucking engineers
>manipulating alien AI
>sitting dudes on overwatch when ayys are in view to be manipulated
>expecting them to not get instakilled
bait it is
I love having to not only feel out where's a dash and where's not by looking for a popup instead of having the handy lines on the ground, but I also like having two cursors for no reason
>if you're near the edge of the map, the camera points straight down and you can't tell what anything is or what can be seen from it
why couldn't they just make it clip through whatever building makes up the edge
holy FUCK dude nice pathing
you did it, soldier
it was an attempt
>the ayys shouldn't be allowed a shot in the first place, they said
>just move so you can't be seen, they said
>Break LOS, they said
*cue overwatch fire and subsequent soft-lock as the camera flips out*
vanilla XCOM 2 is going to suck anyway, Firaxis games always need an expansion or two and some mods to become worth playing
>playing XCOM2012 at release
>all kinds of pod activation bugs
>on the temple ship door last bugs out
>can't finish the game
Sweet Fucking Christ, why wont the leave alone!?
>thin mint out there in the mist
>can't overwatch because ayys cheat and just come to the edge so it never works
>can't rush up because early game so no lightning reflexes
>RNG seed has decreed it's a hit and a crit so I can't just dash and hope the dashing bonus works out (which it never does anyway)
save literally ruined
Hi I'm the nice /v/poster, I'm kind of stubborn so bear with me, I'm bad at strategy games, and I really hate game bugs. Xcom is a strategy game full of bugs. I love suffering. I refuse to have the bugs fixed and gameplay balanced by a mod, because I love suffering.
I also love sharing pain, so I'll just post here about things I suffer from.
Please respond only if you like suffering too. I really like this game, because it makes me suffer.
>hope the dashing bonus works out (which it never does anyway)
i don't want to add fuel to the shitposting fire, but yes the dashing bonus does not work in vanilla. it's only fixed in a recent LW patch.
>but yes the dashing bonus does not work in vanilla.
are you fucking kidding me
I'm pretty sure it says in some tooltip that dashing makes you harder to hit
los is already broken, the ayy was off in the mist somewhere the only big block of high cover (a truck) had part of the team behind it. it's that town square map for your first council mission
normally I'm a bit of a masochist (probably the only reason I didn't drop this shit as soon as it bugged out the first time) but there's a difference between "makes me feel bad like I deserve" and "is just a broken piece of shit in itself"
>I'm pretty sure it says in some tooltip that dashing makes you harder to hit
That doesn't mean it works, it's a Firaxis game.
Civ5 had a MP trade exploit that took 2 lines of code to fix, people posted the fix on their forums and it still took them 4 years to finally patch it.
>All Perks Per Rank
How does this mod works? Does it means i can choose Squadsight in a level and then Snapshot in another? And i can ignore ranks of two shitty perks like Dense Smoke - Combat Drugs to pick revive and suppresion for a support?
nope, instead of choosing one perk per rank and making a specific build it would just give you all at once. Like for example the Scout choice at TSGT between Concealment/In The Zone/Hit and Run. Normally you'd have to select one but with the mod it would give you all of them.
I know we're all such massive scrubs that we need to install LW (which everybody agrees is basically ultra-casual mode and doesn't increase difficulty in the slightest ever) to get past the first mission on classic.
And everyone knows that EW is the pinnacle of skill-based gameplay (which is why you always complain about nothing ever mattering in the tactical gameplay) surpassing even Dark Souls. But your apparent lack of reading comprehension should be no reason to give up now. It might work with vanilla! Keep trying. For us. Please.
>getting all the perks and not having to choose between them doesn't make it babby bullshit
false-flagging as an LW Babby to disparage that mod, or genuinely bad at games and trying to cover for it despite downloading actual easy mode mods?
probably the latter
so, what's the difference between getting all perks at level-up in vanilla and getting all perks at level-up in long war?
besides, nobody said it had to be downloaded, just like the other thousand easy-mode mods. It's there to be added in the pastebin if someone wants it.
>see an ayy run around a corner
>grenade the wall
>ayy is not visible
>"maybe I was just wrong??? what is going on"
>pan the camera around, tab between my guys
>return to the dude I was gonna use to shoot the ayy now that the wall is down
>suddenly, he sees the outsider
poorly constructed game tbqh
>in long war?
holy shit are you retarded
no one was talking about LW, anon said something about "All Perks Per Rank"
i.e. get ALL PERKS
or is LW indeed a casualization mod that gives you all the perks per rank so you don't even have to choose builds and can just have everything?
Can you read at all? I didn't wanted a mod to get all perks at the same time, i wanted a mod that let me skip perks i dont want from a rank so i could have two or three from another. Like skipping Dense Smoke and Combat Drugs in vanilla for suppression
giving you all the perks at once regardless if it's in LW or Vanilla. sorry if i hurt your babby feelings
>no one was talking about LW
are you sure? the description of the mod states "You will gain the bonus stats (will, aim, etc) of the chosen perk". Does that happen in vanilla?
And then it goes on to say "Works with 1, 2, or 3 perks per rank, and in every version of Long War I've tested it on."
finally, "Install with PatcherGui or LW Mod Manager"
if you had read the description of the mod at all it would have been obvious. It might actually work with vanilla. Have you even tried it?
Alright here's in clear english for you:
"All Perks per Rank" might also means "you can choose all perks in a rank", not only "you will automatically gain all the perks in a rank", which is what that anon asked for.
Also, "you are a gigantic moron".
>get a free sniper from japan
>give him squadsight
>it literally doesn't work
if anything, my squadsight sniper has a better view of some punk floater, but nah, he can't see it because it's two tiles off. only the heavy can have a shot. may as well not have given him the fucking perk I guess
the guy literally said
> instead of choosing one perk per rank and making a specific build it would just give you all at once.
which is babby shit and if you disagree then holy shit you are garbage at video games
>>get a free sniper from japan
>>give him squadsight
>>it literally doesn't work
oh fuck its getting worse
>take him to a terror mission
>it's his third mission
>he has killed literally no one yet
>made literally no shots
I think he is actually bugged in some way, this nigga is literally worse than a rookie. I don't even care if he dies as long as no one panics. fuck this asshole. useless chink nigger
>"you can choose all perks in a rank", not only "you will automatically gain all the perks in a rank"
what's the difference? because you could freely choose one perk in a rank, verus grabbing all of them at the same time.
>you are a gigantic moron
yes, very true.
>someone kills Sgt. Hashimoto
>"ah yes. good. he was a shitter anyway. rip in fucking piss. unlike literally every other soldier who I refuse to even let be damaged, he will not be missed"
>game hangs up for several minutes during the ayy activity phase as nothing happens and he goes into the bleeding-out ragdoll state
even in death he continued to ruin everything with his incompetence
rest in fucking piss and also in pieces asshole
you are dumb as shit
it's one perk per rank
versus more than one perk per rank
>one perk per rank
>versus more than one perk per rank
but the name of the mod is "All Perks Per Rank"
what leads people to belive it's anything but what's described on the tin?
i mean in >>121240901
he wanted to know if he could do something utterly bizarre and skip levels and choose perks from other levels? like nothing that a mod had ever offered or even physically suggested before. totally outside the boundary of reality.
the fact that they're not on the same rank, probably. Revive/Rifle Suppression is a Lieutenant choice versus the Captain selection of Combat Drugs vs Dank Smoke
is it purely hypothetical?
Have anyone ever taken fire rocket on engineers?
Mine usually have atrocious aim anyways.
They should replace fire rocket with LnL.
I started doing the bulletwizard engie build, and LnL would make it so damn good.
ANOTHER ONE JUMPED UP LIKE SHIT WAS GONNA BE ALRIGHT
>get lasers and perks on assaults and supports with scopes
>game moves from "jesus christ why doesn't the HUD even work, why is everything so poorly designed, why is there no recourse to literally anything" to "RULES OF NATURE"
you people were right
game is still constructed like shit though and is frustratingly buggy and kills the momentum every five seconds by having the camera hang up or the HUD stop working or w/e. also this difficulty curve is dumb as fuck also all these guys died
that's what i intended with a mod that let you have all perks in a rank. make more choices about how i spend my perk points instead of being forced to pick one i don't like
not having them all anyway without having to compromise
literally warcrimes tbqh
what the fuck is this difficulty curve
>tutorial literally forces a near squad wipe just to make a point
>bad luck on the 1st-3rd missions in terms of rewards means the game is a sure loss by month 2
>but if you have Beams by Flo by your first terror mission, the tactics game is just "How fast can I be the most violent I can possibly be" and the strategic game is just Satellite Tycoon
This ended the mission. I think it was like 4 turns? 2 of which were just rushing to civilians before even making contact with enemies??
>only 8 enemies
it felt like fewer and I'd already beaten a medium splashed ufo with more?? what is going on in this fucking game. didnt even have to savescum with crysalids around. what is even going on anymore
>terror mission with only 8 ayys
>13/18 civilians saved
I forgot how much of a cakewalk vanilla terrormissions were.
The only time they are scary is the very first time when rape-bugs get introduced.
Kinda like Site Recon
>The only time they are scary is the very first time when rape-bugs get introduced.
not really since their AI is dumb as shit and you can just laser them down without much thought since they don't have guns
>my 3rd brutal campaign
>still stacking defense instead of HP
>it just werks
>when will i learn
>they are bound to hit some 5-10% crits right?
You're usually not prepared for how sanicspeed they are in your first playthrough, nor the fact that they oneshot.
Even if their AI is dumb you don't know how to exploit it properly, and often enough the lids will just scatter off into the fog and kill civilians, causing a flood of zombies.
I got fucking rekt on my first time. Restarted the mission and got through it without casualties, but nearly had a squadwipe the first time because I didn't know what the fuck was going on.
It also works on critically wounded soldiers, keeping them from dying as long as the Regen Biofield soldier is in range.
Anyone know if they keep the health they got while lying on the ground when being revived?
THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE
Part of the game's design is the compromises you make. It'd be fucking broken if you could take ITZ and DT on a sniper. In LW you can even have snapshot and squadsight on the same guy, but at the cost of two other powerful perks.
>Part of the game's design is the compromises you make
I'm not asking for an extra point here, you got me wrong. I'd still compromise a point in another skill to have revive and suppression in the same guy. and you wouldn't be able to have double tap and ITZ on the same guy because it's the last tier skill and you wouldn't have any more points after choosing one of them
I meant that Regen Biofield "heals" the critically wounded soldier every turn, giving them 1 HP in their healthbar back. They're still critically wounded tho. While under the effect of regen biofield it seems like they can't die either
I was wondering if this "healed" hp from regen biofield would stay after being revived
>knows re-adding the enemy unknown maps is probably a terrible idea
>Does it anyway
Hell, that museum street map was devoid of cover even for four operatives. Rocketeers will probably be indispensable.
I'm starting to feel some of that map fatigue myself, I guess.
That's why I'm worried about those maps. The patrols, Escalation Mod or not, may get a little too close from each other and you don't have that much of a cover to begin with.
Congratulations. You've won XCOM.
No, really. This what we've been saving all along - Early game is absolutely the hardest part, and once you get beam lasers and carapace armor, the game is basically over, and the rest is just a formality. With an alien base assault soon, your panic troubles will be gone, and titan armor and plasma weapons will soon follow.
This is why we play Long War. The early game is easier, yes, but alien research means that aliens start strong and get strong, not just with more aim, HP, defense, and DR, but also gaining additional perks. It swaps out vanilla's reverse difficulty curve for a more standard one.
yeah too bad you have 6 squaddies with tons of new tech and skills to fight these still laughable weak sectoids and you even have some new base abilities that makes the game even more broken like giving you tactical rigging right out of the bat if you pick stuff like Jungle Scouts as a starting bonus
Mid to End game Long War is hell. No comparison with Vanilla. But early game LW is way easier than Classic and Impossible, no dancing around it
6 squaddies who can't hit shit, while every pod is 5-7 sectoids mind merging, fraying and panicking all of your guys while taking potshots from upgraded low cover. It's easier, but not easy.
>and you even have some new base abilities that makes the game even more broken like giving you tactical rigging right out of the bat if you pick stuff like Jungle Scouts as a starting bonus
Have fun playing as snails
>Have fun playing as snails
aka every LW player ever? wew high mobility sure is important too bad i only move everyone together 1 tile while overwatching and waiting for aliuns anyway
>he doesn't sanic through missions moving to the best cover, flanking and getting the meld
It's like you hate fun.
The only time I move slow is during terror missions (because fuck civilians) or during missions in which time is not of the essense, and even then the mobility of your soldiers is important
Besides, Jungle Scout is shitty in the long run. It's just a fun change of pace at the start.
You think Vahlen and Bradford are bad?
I'd say EXALT's leader, * STATIC NOICE BRGHHGHTTTTT* is a lot worse.
You don't even know what the fuck he's telling you to do so you're just guessing and hoping you do it right. No wonder they always lose.
I disliked them so much I modded them out.
It really works every time.
B-But the PIMP Base!
are people still incessantly complaining about the game?
it's kind of tiring, everyone fucking knows the game has a lot of bullshit, we fucking know, bad games can still be enjoyed
i preferred magnificent, at least complaining about LW specifically is somewhat understandable
>>All that expensive bling... Gone...
But what triggers me to this day is how EXALT don't have pistols. LW could have used some standard issue guns in the ballistic tier.
I can see it now.
Someone is having a bad time.
Wait. Did he just said this is Site Recon in April?
I just liberated the first country the aliens captured, and now I have a hyperwave beacon. Should I build the relay now or wait until I have firestorms on every continent like in vanilla?
>>Only the Sniper survived Site Recon.
Thats quite appropriate.
>>All those fields.
They make the heliport look like something out of the Playstation.
Had a terror mission on april 3rd.
I just imagine the scout saying 'Get to the skyranger, I'll be right behind you" before running into the barge.
REDS is having something like that right now.
The 'lids were (apparently) not following you very well. Couldn't you just try to save the Scout as well?
Urban camo v2.1 and 2.2 (body armor/helmet textures)
something called MEC CAMO.tpf that i literally can't be arsed to figure out, i think it's just from the urban camo mod
Facialhairmod v2.1 for balaclavas and shit.
However I don't know of any mods that allow you to have 100% black armor. I want to do some fucking black ops task force shit.
>>No, otherwise I risk the sniper dying too, knowing my luck they were going for him.
Fair enough. Still kinda sad.
>>"Only" lost the assault.
The Assault is the one who got the short end of the stick when "everyone started hitting again" happened.
I use them very often on missions where I expect annoying shit like seekers or robots. My build is like this. IMO rocketeers should be focused entirely on rocket perks. Shredder ammo is very important, I'd take both the perk and the equipment item.
They are great against 7+ alien pods in general, because they rarely cluster.
HEAT also makes them do a ton of single target damage, mainly on sectopods.
I always go for heavy psionics on them;
So they get all around useful.
They scale slowly and pretty useless early game, but once you get hold of a blaster launcher and psi panic, they will be the shining star of the squad.
Corsair Armor/Vortex Armor
IT'S NOT WORSE
MY FUCKING ASSAULT MISSED A 99% SHOT ON A THIN MAN RIGHT BESIDES HIM
THEN I FLANKED WITH MY SUPPORT, 99% AGAIN AND HE FUCKING MISSED TOO
AND OF FUCKING COURSE THE FUCKING THIN MAN SCORED A FUCKING CRITICAL AND KILLED MY CAPTAIN
ALRIGHT I'M FUCKING DONE
>game bugs out when i tried to approach the VIP in portent with my 1hp support
>i keep walking around him and he never activates
>i have to save and load to see if it fixes it (playing ironman btw)
>AS SOON AS THE GAME FUCKING LOADS MY GUY PANICS FOR SOME GODDAMN REASON AND SHOOT THE FUCKING VIP
>GAME FUCKING OVER
i don't fucking know how that's possible either but it happened
my guy panicked out of nowhere and shot the VIP. i don't fucking know why. i don't fucking know why i couldnt activate the VIP before saving and exit either. fuck this shitty game
>Here are included bugs that have been deemed unsolvable by the Long War development team and have been present in the original game as well. As it stands, with the limited modding capabilities at hand, the Long War team can not resolve them.
>Loading savegames in tactical missions can cause problems, including: recheck of panic when a soldier is critically wounded and awaiting stabilize; cancelling hunker down status; resetting certain flags intended to prevent you from doing things like using Run and Gun and Close Encounters on the same turn, cars exploding on the same turn. These can be exploits and you should feel really, really bad for using it.
Why there were no Seekers in the Temple Ship? Why couldn't you use Chimaeras in the final level of Warcraft III? Where is Half-Life III? These and lots of other questions still remain unanswered.
At least they tried.
My current status in the ayy base assault
>there are people who bother armoring their guys until they get skeleton/archangel armor
literally just already admitting you're bad and are throwing your men into enemy fire for no reason
B-But that will only make all the pods come straight after us!
Caught up on Live and Impossible. Beagle going crazy the last few epsiodes. Is the new Twitch thing he's doing worth checking out? I catch a slight bit of it before I get bogged down in classes.
It's nice but if you are limited on time you should check the "Best of Beagle" you-tube videos.
>TELL ME ABOUT XCOM, WHY DOES HE WEAR THE AYY!?
Why bio-tanks are shit in LW:
MECs have 40% more Armor HP.
MECs can get 5.5 innate DR
Bio can only get 4(+1 if psi screen)innate DR
The strength of bio comes from being in cover. (+2.5DR in full cover)
Cover means defense, which is bad if you want the aliens to shoot your tank.(Fortiores una gives +1 but hunkering is just flat out retarded unless aliens can't see or move to see anyone else but the tank)
Oh and I didn't even mention absorption fields(which is still good after nerfs)
If anyone has any point for using biotanks, pls tell
You can't play completely out of sight unless you cheese with 3 engineers and 5 snipers every mission.
In those moments when aliens get a chance to shoot at you I'd rather take a 65% hit 5 damage shot than a 25% hit 29 crit.
it's just... not xcom. it's not even xcom themed. it has mechanics dissimilar to xcom. the scenario is entirely different. what is even the point of calling it xcom anymore
People not knowing about melee weapons, only on /xcg/.
not only is >>121348874 correct but also you just revealed that you have shit taste in that you think F3 wasn't superior to NV in every way
Your analysis makes no sense either.
But what I'm saying is you're a whinebaby bitch that just wants Enemy Unknown with Long War but made as an entirely different game, just with absolutely no changes made at all.
It has nothing to do with using melee weapons you moron
It's the entire way they did the new melee weapons with the DARK BROODING HOODED SAMURAI GUY PSHHH NOTHING PERSONNEL ALIUN
>waaah you hate changes
No, i hate dumb changes
I don't want the same game, but i don't want Shadow The Hedgehog Tactics too
>Giving you more variety and options for combat is a bad thing
Okay, pal. You hate content and like being led along a linear path to make sure you don't actually have to form your own tactics. I get it, I do. It's hard for you casuals to play these games so you need your hands held.
In fact, thanks for using TftD as an example
Because TFTD is goofy in the good way and i would love playing a new version of it
This X-COM is the worst kind of goofy, the one where they take themselves too seriously and muh serious plot muh saving the universe instead of just making you harpoon overpowered lobstermen in a coral reef and swimming slowly for your life
>if you didn't liked the exaggerated sword sequence you hate changes, you want linearity, you don't want any new content and you're a casual
Do you even have a license to move this many goalposts
>guerilla fighter has a hood
>"WOW SURE IS EDGY IN HERE MAXIMUM EGDE LE HEDGEHEG COLDSTEELE MAYMAY"
/xcg/, quality posting.
Let's just completely forget about the guy that looks like a terrorist, or the fact that XCOM in general has a wacky action-figure thing going on
>legit trying to compare a brooding hooded Ubisoft Assassin ripoff to to goofy shit that was UFO Defense and TFTD's "melee combat" of guys in dumpy beige coveralls poking ayys with cattle prods until they stopped whining
nah man that new xcom looks edgy as shit and its designs are dumb as heck
see also: that weird Age of Mythology new enemy that looks like some kind of wierd futurized roman god statue with angel wings, or the new "Totally Not From Halo, We Swear" armor that ADVENT will be wearing
>or the new "Totally Not From Halo, We Swear" armor that ADVENT will be wearing
The fact that you seriously think that Halo was first with that kind of shit should be enough reason to just end yourself.
it reminds me most of Halo because that vertical strip visor thing is the default helmet in Reach if you play MP
it's also the most recent and arguably most popular franchise around right now that uses it, and most of XCom2's designs are clearly just trying to "appeal to a wider fanbase" i.e. rip off everything vaguely popular right now at once
>what is culture apropriation
You fucking moron
He never said Halo did it first, but Halo popularized it and when people see that shit today, they think of Halo and not Marathon or whatever old bullshit you will use as an example
Just like vampire in movies started with Nosferatu but you can bet your ass people are going to remember them as Interview with the Vampire shit
can you believe how lazy firaxis, just blatantly copying designs from other games?
i mean look at this. literally no difference between the two
The developers have blatantly admitted that the aliens are now final fantasy villains and your soldiers are just cool second-wave action figures, and you think it's 'edgy'.
>FFVII is the only game i know
From I to VIII the only non-edgy villain was Kefka and even then he became pretty edgy after world of ruin
Refreshing breather in IX
From X onwards everything became a boring edgy and bawling fest
Haven't you ever fucking played XIII for fucks sake
In fact that melee from that ranger is totally the SUPER COOL LIGHTNING MOVES SHE'S SO AWESOME AND MYSTERIOUS WITH A ~DARK PAST~
I do often have that kind of firepower, but sometimes you get really nasty pod placements. Yesterday I was doing a base assault and opened the last big holodoor to be greeted by a gunstar, thin men and a dreadnaught. The next turn four muton elites and an ethereal showed up. Most of my team had bad angles on the discs and they fired on activation. I only survived because my goliath, marauder and bio tank were able to flame the mutons and lure the discs into range of my gunners.
I think we all learned an important lesson today kids.
I can't design guns. Nor can I pimp them.
>- Crashed destroyer missions will now take place on Overseer maps (with overseer mission-related stuff stripped). Destroyers now carry 4 UFO Power Sources that can be salvaged. They will have a few more aliens than in the past.
>aliens are now final fantasy villains
I'm okay with this.
Stupidest thing in the whole trailer, and the only thing that dampened my enthusiasm on June 1.
Speaking of which, where were all of you when XCOM 2 was announced? I was at work, struggling not to scream out loud.
>The Andromedon’s Battlesuit also has an internal coolant that corrodes organic tissue, and our recon teams have witnessed the creature launch this acidic liquid at its enemies. On impact, the liquid splatters and pools, further damaging any XCOM soldier caught within it.
what the absolute fuck.
Holy shit this look EXACTLY like the big daddy launching a mine
I don't have any problems either, if anything it's the less stupid new design we've seen
But you can't fucking deny it's a blatant big daddy ripoff
I can't wait to smack this guy with a big crit, watch the glass/whatever casing to bust open and this horrifying creature to spill out and then charge my squad while the suit continues to steadily advance forward, destroying cover and shooting squaddies trying to get away from whatever is inside.
too bad chryssalids have even less health and the cocoons will take more than one turn to burst so spacebugs are even more of a joke than before where they were scary for maybe a month and then could be oneshotted by almost everyone
So from this thread we can conclude that Firaxis has ripped off the following francises
-Age of Mythology
-the fanfics from monstergirl faggots over at /d/
-The Dark Knight Rises movie villain
Anything I missed?
Yeah, but how much health does the cocoon have? Probably your gonna be fighting a dug in advent troopers, send your ranger out for a flank, then blam, unborrowed chryssalid pops up and kills him.
Now you fighting ADVENT, and lid, while trying to destroy the cocoon.
In optimal situations lids are never that threatening, they are all about taking a bad situation and making it into a nightmare. While one alien might have critted your soldier and killed him when you screwed up, lids can lead to situations where you either squadwipe or bail. Don't forget they still apply acid, and now if a soldier dies from acid they still cocoon.
>Our observations have also revealed the Andromedon is immune to fire, poison and acid, so don’t bother wasting your enhanced ammunition when encountering this elite alien unit.
Does this perhaps imply that enhanced ammunition types are limited use? Like an ability?
Would make sense, but I hope its not too limited. Maybe like a toggle ability that you can use x amount of times per mission and it doesn't take an action.
Sort of how motion tracker works in long war, or the rocket boost for mecs to get on top of building/objects.
Could just be a coincidence of wording, but Good catch.
Maybe, maybe not.
More like The Bureau design wise and some alien type yet i still love it and excited for it. I wish the add Silacoid and Tech Commander
Baneposting is the ultimate meme. It is too incomprehensible for normies and at the same time you can apply it to literally every situation and it never, ever ceases to be funny.
Its a wonderful thing to witness.
Yeah, that's how I was thinking it would be implemented.
It's interesting, I actually prefer some of the Bureau designs, mainly the Muton. And the little Sectoids in collars are just too cute.
Interesting comparison between the "sectopod" and the Andromedon.
I can't wait for pectoids to use my full rank ranger to melee itz my entire squad.
Now we metroid
The whole big power armor look of big daddy's isn't what even really makes them interesting. Its their role as protectors for the little sisters and their passive nature that gives them any depth.
He said that the big daddy rips off starcraft, not that bioshock does. Bioshock is supposed to be a spiritual successor to system shock.
The real problem is that every here is using "ripped off," when really people are just using other peoples content as inspiration, which is something everyone does, people need to chill.
Except that Blizzard did actually rip off both Warhammer universes and remake them into normie shit for a quick buck, and have in fact been known to rip off other projects without remorse.
>Bioshock ripped System Shock you moron
in terms of aesthetics, not any kind of themes
I wasn't trying to actually fucking make strong comparisons, I was making comparisons on the same vauge umbrella that he was using.
sorry its a bit time consuming maybe someone could do it way better
I actually love the Bureau designs of the aliens they would be a perfect match for the advent chunky armor and if you see the abilities of some aliens Lift, Duplicate, Ground Pound, Shockwave, Teleport, Spawn Silacoid plus the fact that their armor can be damaged it was quite awesome I wish for a sequel, haven't played the dlc though i heard it was a lot harder. Now that i think about it i forgot the drone in the Bureau the drone can buff like gremlin in xcom 2.
last one is design wise and minus the flight
who fucking cares?
there's innumerable shit which is ripped off, the large majority of games out there don't really have unique artstyles or particularly unique universes.
I'm not denying anything in your post but I just don't get the fuss over bullshit like 'bluh this game ripped off this one' when it means almost fucking nothing for the actual game.
Frankly I couldn't give a shit about Warhammer considering strictly in terms of video games, there's fuck all decent games based off it other than perhaps some of the Dawn Of War games.
Space Marine is alright.
I see your point, but I have too much salt to not push my agenda onto everybody I can.
I'm unable to comprehend the fags claiming Firaxis is ripping of Halo and shit tho.
Looks like the mutons are taking note out the newest mgs.
Ayys actually trying to put up a fight this vanilla base assault.
Doesn't really look like much of a fight, my last base assault was all of that + 4 muton elites in one pod.
It's not much of fight, but more then I got last time. Making this fight even easier, an entire cyberdisk pod decided to teleport miles behind me and do nothing. Oh well.
Yeah at first I was panicking, but turns out this pod bugged out big time. It activated, and then I ghosted everyone, then it teleported, and now its patrolling like an unactivated pod. Pretty strange.
You're really gonna read deeply into irrelevant shit?
Saying a big top heavy suit of armor is a rip off of big daddy is the equivalent to saying bioshock ripped off warhammer or starcraft because it has those things.
Everyone knows Bioshock is massively ripped off from System Shock in gameplay, themes etc. That's not even a bad thing, considering both have shit gameplay and the basic gameplay isn't what makes System Shock good.
covert extraction saves the day
>>Anything I missed?
The Protoss from Starcraft?
>cyberdisc destroyers(leader lv4)
>heavy floater destroyer(leader lv2)
>sectopod destroyer(leader lv4)
>basic muton elite(warheads)
Notice the trend?
Only leaders can get HEAT ammo.
Leaders are 1 per pod, and you should always be focusing them down anyways.
Anything but a large group of elites should pose no threat.
>mfw a /v/ thread is more entertaining than /xcg/
I fancy watching a lp in bed since I don't like sleeping in silence
whou should I watch?
I want them to be average at the game going through at a decent speed preferably losung a couple people
obviously not some loud autist. preferrable pretty chill
vanilla or LW would work
there's one on somethingawful (inb4 >somethingawful) that is quite nice right now
they don't scream, they know about the game and they still lose soldiers anyway
look for thecanyon on youtube
I'd like a nice EU/EW blind LP but i can't find any (by non-retard screaming people anyway)
enough of tactical genius like beagle that spend 4 hours every turn, i want to see people being surprised by x-com and dying a lot
I remember years ago when EU came out one of the yogscast guys (rythian I think) did a pretty decent blind ironman LP
wasn't too shouty IIRC since pewdie pie hadn't made shouting the 'cool' letsplay thing
>that workshop placement
the fuck senpai
You should have your base like this:
2x3 block for satellites (3 uplink 3 nexus)
2x3 block for workshops (repairbay, foundry, workshops)
2x2 block for labs (gene, psi, 2 labs)
2x2 block for energy (eventually will be 4 elerium generators)
Now the only tricky part is the energy generators. You should go for the steam vents and then pick whatever location (preferably next to a steam vent) and make your 2x2 block there, eventually removing the other steam generators.
The open spaces that remain should be filled with other necesaties like Ayy Prison, Officer Training, Gollop Chamber and Hyperlink
The way you placed your workshops is kinda wasteful.
t w i t c h t v / freeman918
he's an /xcg/ poster,
He's pretty good at the game, still loses a couple people
Chill person, but his reactions are priceless
If you wanna see someone play it blind just recommend it to someone yourself.
Thread is dead, and February can't come soon enough.
What kind of mods are you fags going to be looking forward to when this shit comes out?
Is there even going to be some Beagles today?
Oh well. It looks like there is not going to be any Beagles at all tonight.
I tried getting back into that game about a month ago.
I had forgotten about the hard-coded asinine key bindings that are 2 pages long and the first phase of the game in which you and your enemies plink hopelessly (think 10% hit chance, if that) at each other with pistols.
Has anyone modded in configurable controls, or an early game that doesn't suck for v1.13?
>>No XCOM or Overwatch Beagles Tonight.
At least I wanted to have Beagle as background noise but oh well.
Should I be worried about this research level? It's almost February 2017, and I assaulted a base this month.
Way too punishing in my opinion. You already get smacked with fatigue and big wound times. Now getting shot not only gives the wounds, but has a good chance of breaking your equipment. So now you have a soldier you can't take to the next mission and gear that might not be fixed by next mission. Which means you now field an inferior squad with inferior equipment, increasing the chance someone else will get wounded ans break their stuff.
It doesn't add an interesting mechanics as far as im concerned.
Oh, and I know I have too few interceptors up right now. I recently placed a few in europe after I liberated france to cover the satellite, and I'm building a couple firestorms and weapons.
I know, rare to see /xcg/ agree on something, eh?
Even fucking Klei games has a plush spider: http://store.kleientertainment.com/products/561236-hissing-spider-plush
GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER 2K
>get an xcom patch from your local fabric store (most will do custom embroidered patches for you)
>buy a pic related kind of uniform sweater but in forest green
shit nigga I have one of these in black already. it's comfy as shit
>bradford will never wear his Bradford Sweater(tm) again
pic related it's new bradford for XC-om: 2: Gorilla Warfare: This Time It's Personnel
What's sad is that they spent all that time and effort to put that out instead of doing dome much more needed bug fixing.
Hot Fucking Shit this mission is brutal in Long War, 3 mechtoids and 5 sectoids dropped in on one turn. Halfway through I just sprinted my scout and barely reach the truck.
Exactly. They were over-reacting to anything that they thought could be an exploit (be it done/used by Beagle or anyone else) instead of balancing stuff up so people would be less inclined to use said 'exploits' in the first place.
>finally get to the storyline ayylium base assault mission
>it's boring as heck and even the music is annoying and lame
how can I liven this shit up
I feel like it's trying to generate suspense for some horrible chrysalid rush (that will be solved by rampant overwatch fire) but I also fear that this mission is genuinely just gonna be a half hour of slowly moving up, then a half hour of slowly moving back to the entry point, all interspersed with vahlen's horrible voice going on about abductee tanks indeed containing abductees
>folded up cyberdisc pillows with fluffy fur on the top and bottom
>comes with one free drone plushie
mite b cool
starts slow but theres some real gold in here
>"This cover will surely protect me!
LOST MY SHIT
my favorite is still that one anon with "fatigued", "wounded" and "gravely wounded" set to "AFK", "Dead" and "Very Dead" tho
so I switched up 2 perks in the infantry tree.
I hate BeO. /blog
