/irg/ is a proposed general for indie RPG's, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, and the like. Games that are too small or old to warrant their own general.

it's not gonna die while i'm here, buddy
it might die while i'm off to sleep or doing things, though
I'm a bit of a Yumi Nikki fag. It can get pretty boring if you have zero idea what to do. At the same time, just using a walkthrough takes most of the fun out of the game too. Still, it's still definitely one of my favorite games out there. Though I can't fully comprehend why.
I'm not one for .flow because I don't like how it is too eerie and creepy right off the bat, along with the gore. To me I think it sort of lessens the impact of the more disturbing scenes.
>it's okay, nothing special, but a fun sequel to off
>it tries to turn the batter into a big sad woobee who meant no harm
>batter actually fucking cries
>edgy edgy plot
See my only problem with that is Papyrus, how would he...
Wait a fucking second
>Trying to get to become a famous royal guard
>Always have lots of friends
>Because he lost all his cool friends and no one knew him
>So he obviously wants to be known forever now
>Why doesn't Papyrus tell you about Gaster? Because you never ask!
Help me /utg/ this makes too much sense.
You can't die yet.
I need you alive for my keikaku
Have a fun image
It's takes a certain level of indie appreciation to like a game like Yume Nickki.
I drew something for you /utg/
I know it's not much and shitty but I need to contribute something./spoiler]
reposting cause the thread died
Post UT voice headcanons:
Asriel: I would say Lumisau but her voice just doesn't seem right for some reason... She's still good tho
It's the fucking worst - let's not forget charlotte the original chararter donut steel who turns into an anthropomorphic furry cat in a dress in a game related to OFF
and that same cat being raped for dramatic effect
Want me to count how many times we had to bumb /irg/ last thread because it hit page 9 or 10?
>mfw Unknown was such a piece of shit that I edited all the battlers in it to poorly-drawn
One of the biggest obstacles early on is that Pain mode has Vic Cherry and another mini boss for you to cross to World 2.
It was pretty damn hard, I passed it using Fardy's Truck Slam and getting a lucky 2000 damage crit on both of them.
One suggestion would be to leave one of the first save points in the hub world untouched and see once you get to that boss if your team is a good enough level to beat them. If not you might need to grind shadow creatures like I did.
Also just as a reminder, even just opening the save points destroys that marker. Even if you don't save the save point disappears.
DON'T YA WANT SOME SNACKERY?
CUT ME SOME SLACKERY!
just when i thought people couldnt draw asriel cuter than goat-son's version: http://spoilergoat.tumblr.com/
As sick and tired as I am with Asriel as a whole thanks to the cancerous general, I admit he looks pretty fuckin cool in pictures like this. Frisk as well.
Also, Buzzo single handedly ruined the entire fucking world with his childish lashing out about Lisa's death. It was completely within his power to help fix everything yet he just fucks with Brad. And the whole Joy/Yado subplot felt kind pointless in my eyes. I appreciate how enigmatic it all was though with the buildup.
Why would Buzzo want to fix everything though? He was on board with Yado's plan all along. Even if I'm not sure why or what was in for him. Unless I have utterly misinterpreted the plot.
Clicked it by mistake. Shitty phone, now I've been made the fool
this looks more like samefagging than it has any right to, you know
early /utg/ was kinda comfy
now things are kinda derailing into the kind of things i really don't want to be a part of
speaking of which i need to play lisa later
i need more pain
Just ignore the worship shit. I go there for funny Sans images and humorous comics.
I know that feeling, on /a/ I used to take part in Madoka Magica threads during the original series up to the third movie Rebellion. Admittedly it was fine for about 8 months after the third movie, but now it's literally all image dump and tripfags jerking each other off.
I asked this on the last thread right before it died. Has anyone here played Central Station? I think I just want confirmation that it is a real game and not just a bizarre hallucination I've been having DESU.
I haven't played it, but I at least found it. Required some precise googling too, so I'm not surprised you were not sure it was real in the first place. I might try it someday, would you recommend it?
Is it just me, or is this thread always talking about the same games? To make this a bit little meta, anyone else playede Eaten Alive? I think it's one of the worst rpgs, if not games in general, I've ever played.
Yeah, I got it myself knowing it was bad for kicks because it was cheap. But yeah it is a good indication when NOT EVEN THE FUCKING TRAILER can make it look good. I mean the whole car minigame looks pretty shitty too and you can tell the collision detection is shit even in the trailer.
Also the Dev should be shot just for thinking the permadeath thing is a good idea. It's just not, and pretty much everyone who has tried the game has told him so.
Either controller or mouse. Mouse has some very bad hit detection tho somehow. You have to wander around and look for clues to go on (like for example the first part is finding some stuff to leave the starting warehouse, and some points activate only after you find some other events, for example there's a PC that you can only use to find a passcode once you know you're looking for a passcode, which means pixel hunting every time you find out something new). If you touch a zombie, you used to die immediately. Now, a bar appears and you have to hit spacebar when it's at the top to survive. Otherwise, you're ded all the same (which means doing the same stuff in the same order from the beginning, as the game has no randomization). Also the tiling in the game sucks, there are walls that are accidentally walkable, so you 'climb', and find yourself over the walls and can walk all over them.
Just reload man.
It's certainly an experience. Very unsettling, and the strangest art style I've ever seen. Combat is completely trivial for the most part once you get a second party member, but I think that may be intentional, seeing as most of your opponents seem to be random civilians. Give it a try I guess, it's free after all.
Who do you think is the buffest: Buzzo, Rando, or Brad?
Will the guy who made Witch's House ever add a
Viola survives and has a good life and Ellen gets royally fucked ending, I really love this game but I feel really bad everytime I think about it
So to those who beat it, what did you gather from the ending of Lisa the Joyful? Spoil your ideas for the sake of others who haven't played it yet.
From the music and the sprites present at the end as well as the marked graves for Brad(symbolic empty grave?) and Rando I get the feeling that Buddy is legitimately remorseful for having killed Rando and pushed Brad away until it was too late. Consider there is no pools of blood or joy mutants, I think Buddy worked to make amends for causing so much death and chaos in Olathe by calming the Joy mutants down with Yado's trumpet. The baby she has also seems really similar to Brad's theme, someone Buddy could nurture to act as a second chance to calm the guilt in her heart. By her posture at the end I think she still is very lonely and who can blame her? She's isolated herself from the rest of Olathe and killed the only two people who understood her; Rando and Brad. I think Buddy has given up any Messiah-complex she may have had in her youth and now just wants to make sure Olathe and mankind dies a peaceful death. Not out of spite but just acceptance that Rando was right and that finding personal peace away from the world was the better option. As for any future goals, I think Buddy would probably teach her son how to use Yado's trumpet so that he can continue to offer peace to the last generations of Olathe's men.
Rando is probably physically the strongest, he's just a weenie who can't apply it well. Brad is pretty ruthless and has the technique of a master. Buzzo is basically a walking atomic bomb considering how powerful he is.
So from what I gather, this whole "adoption" thing that Rando believed was completely one sided right?
He never really asked Brad if he could use his last name, he just went around telling people his name was Dusty Armstrong and called him dad in secret.
He likely didn't actually live with Brad.
As far as Brad was concerned it was just a student-teacher relationship that they had.
Would these be correct assumptions?
Wow, those are really good custom clay figures. Damn it Dingaling, I wish you'd sell out and make figures of this quality. I'd buy them all.
Don't Starve made figures, I don't see why Lisa shouldn't.
It was probably sort of an unofficial adoption. Rando tells Buddy that Brad didn't like it when he referred to him as dad, and Buddy mentions that Brad didn't allow her to call him dad, either.
I figured it was an official adoption but Brad had such a fucked up family that he didn't want to be called the same thing as the person that
drove his sister to suicide and fucked him up bad, too.
Oh right, plus Sticky and Rick knew about it too. So I guess Brad probably let Dusty live with him too.
It' strange that he lets Dusty in and yet he couldn't fill that void that Buddy manages to fill. Was it something wrong with Dusty or Brad?
Poor Dusty, he didn't deserve this kind of hurt. It's pretty amazing after all that he never resented Brad.
tfw, Buddy calling Brad a piece of shit was the last straw for Rando abandoning her and her destructive plan.
if shitty old niche console rpgs are allowed here
did anyone play
a friend of mine is currently playing it and ive picked it up myself
it's surprisingly fun, so i'm slightly sad how criminally underrated it appears to be
Well then. I just finished Lisa the Painful.
I don't think this reaction image really sums up what I felt. I don't think anything that could describe my feelings even exists.
First time playing Yume Nikki. I decided for it over .flow because I'll most likely be playing while there are relatives at home and I don't want any more weird stares than absolutely necessary.
>"Did I do the right thing?"
This is the only thing that adequately explains how I felt.
>>>Did I do the right thing?
I felt so bad for having Buddy's nipple cut off. I hated it when an enemy started doing nothing but crying, and then there was that shit at the end with your party members. I had Brad become an armless monster and I want to fall into the abyss and never have to think sad thoughts again. I did not think I'd be feeling such things.
On the bright side the RNG was incredibly kind to me and nobody died.
Well, Terry died because I decided to be ballsy towards a gang early on, and I regret that, but that's my own damn fault.
>Okay I'm gonna go into this thing the way it was meant to be played, and that's accepting party member deaths
>mfw I couldn't bear losing my bros
that fucking ending
I was pretty lucky during my Pain run not to lose party members. I got a game over during the Russian Roulette but on my reload everyone survived.
I only lost Percy and Shocklord to late game Joy mutants. I didn't risk their lives fighting Satan.
I found myself missing Shocklord a lot and even Percy. He proved his usefulness even when he considered himself a loser.
I lost pretty much everyone in Russian Roulette except Terry and Nern during a Painful run. It was the only time out of 3 tries where I didn't lose everyone, so I rolled with it. Those two were my favorites anyway. I kept them in the party till the end without losing them once.
Boy Oh Boy for Painful
Land of Hints for Joyful
It almost makes me as sad as the song from the brad part
Summer Love, I wake up to it and walk to work too it. I've actually listen to the song it's built from, I like Dingaling's version more. Men's Hair Club is probably my second favorite from Painful.
In terms of in-game music, I really liked "My Lord My Wally" definitely felt like you were taking this spiritual journey; making it all the better once you see Wally and where the "miracles" are coming from.
Also "Blood for Sex" is another theme that was really fitting for the area outside the Joy Lab and other eerie parts.
From Joyful, "He's My Dad" got me teary eyed but "Voices" caught me off guard with lyrics and made me legit cry. It's a pretty simple song but it's haunting.
OP here, I'm honestly too lazy to make sure the pastebins in the OP stay up to date and all that.
I'll try and make sure not to forget about your pastebin for the next OP. Besides, the more, the merrier, no?
I'm halfway through Oneshot... I'm guessing this game doesn't do
any fucked up permanent things to my system based on the fact that other people have played it and haven't complained? The background change made me jump worrying it changed other shit, but after I solved the puzzle the computer let me turn it back
I've played a shitton of yume nikki fangames, I know which ones are good if you want my input, unless you don't care at all
the YN fanbase is known to make shitty fangames but if you wade through the awful ones you can find some pretty interesting ones, my personal favourites are Miserere by Owl and Yume Nisshi (although the creator is a huge xenophobe and updates come slow)
Brokentooth March is hands down one of my top 5 favorite battle themes ever. Shame the actual fight was such a letdown.
Goodbye Baby and End is Nigh were also uncanny and strongly emotional. Out of normal themes, Bloodmoon Rising and Men's Hair Club are my favorites.
Yume Nikki Fangames that aren't trash (personal opinion
first: the obvious out of the way
summary: more horror oriented fangame of yume nikki. Considered one of the best.
summary: probably the most well put together yume nikki game out there, the production quality even goes above YN itself at times. More surreal, the game's main focus is being weird.
summary: a YN Fangame made in RPG Maker VX. Tries to be scary with various jumpscares and events. Never got far in this one because I hate that kind of shit, but it was pretty decent and is one of the more popular ones.
the more "obscure" ones that people don't normally try but I liked:
summary: straight up rip off of yume nikki, but has nice looking graphics with catchy music. Xenophobic as fuck dev who hates americans playing his game. Slow updates.
I added a link to the fangame site here instead of the direct download because the dev is so xenophobic he password locked all the files so some instructions are needed
summary: sci fi horror-esque surreal game with an extremely interesting art style. Largely a departure from traditional fangames, has dialogue, items that carry over to the real world, and is made in XP with a completely different graphical style. Extremely unique compared to the rest on this list.
summary: weird warioware YN fangame crossover.... thing, bad art, interesting gameplay, worth a try.
>Reap and Sow
summary: a harvest moon/horror dream simulator crossover where you manage a farm by day and go into your disturbed dreams at night. Made by creator of Miserere.
Aw snap, that's a mouthful.
I'll look into adding some sort of "YN fangame" sub pastebin or something. For now, there's this:
don't mind the username and shit i originally used that account for /ssbg/ stuff
Gonna add this to the next OP, then.
Some more games I know of that aren't YN fangames but worth a shot
weird exploration games. If anyone knows if it's even possible to beat, let me know
>Sluggish Morss Trilogy
I'm actually not sure if all of these are made in RPG Maker. I know the one I played, Sluggis Morss: A Delicate Time in History definitely was, but not sure about the first and third one. Fucked up pretentious bullshit. Worth a play just to experience it, as each installment is only about 30 minutes long.
I would link to them but each of them is in a separate download space, and the 3rd one is something like 2 dollars. I'm sure you can find them if you're interested.
Also pretty much any game by Kanoguti. I'm actually not sure if they're RPG maker games or even RPG games... But where else am I going to mention them? Here's a video to know what to expect from them
I'll look into those and add them later as well. Thanks for your input!
Check out the pastebins and tell me whether or not they're looking good as-is, please. I'll be back in a bit.
yeah, they look fine. Two suggestions, one easy to make and one hard but would be nice:
1) make the headers pop out more. It's hard to tell when each genre begins/ends and would make the whole thing more readable.
2) a short description of each would be nice, but that's asking a lot of you. If you get the time and interest, it would be neat.
Go play Radiation's halloween earthbound romhack.
I was unsure if it'd come across as rude or something if I just went and reformatted things, but I'll go and do that in a bit, then.
As for descriptions, I'll see what I can do. I haven't played that many indie games, so I'd have to resort to having people write descriptions, or lazily copy them off of websites.
It might end up making things look a little too bloated, so I'd try and keep it down to three or four lines at most for each game.
Oldschool Zeldaesque ARPG, with Foxeye's trademark underwater (think drowning fetish) sections. Girl in a swimsuit stuck on an island with pirates and bears, the latter being shopkeepers. Pretty fun.
Partial nudity and drowning, but no real sexual content.
Free. Download is on developer's page.
ARPG with a girl entering a forbidden tower, looking for her sister. Schematic gameplay makes it easy to understand. Has a few puzzles, and bosses. Bosses are very well designed and are quite difficult if you play them on hard, with different attacks popping up as they get hurt. Pretty touching story.
RPG maker game, on Steam, Free.
A game that wants to be Crystalis very bad. It's actually quite decent in gameplay, you play as an edgy fallen evil lord on a quest of revenge and destruction, in a world of pretty grey morality. Looks like an 8-bit game, but seems to run on its own engine.
Puzzle adventure game. Explore the psyche and the past of a troubled girl in the form of mazes. Pretty fun, although its nature gives it little replayability. Voiced.
RPG Maker game. Sold on Steam.
ARPG focused on Zelda-like puzzles. If the premise sounds convincing, the game absolutely delivers. Sequel in the works. Multiple languages available. Got plenty of updates over the years. Nonlinear, a lot of content is optional, and some parts are pretty challenging.
Sold on Steam.
I'll suggest some more later I guess.
Without going into guides/spoilers, why do people say the Knife is useless when there are so many areas blocked off by stabbable enemies?
You can use the cat to move them out of the way.
Though fags who say it's useless are obviously fags who haven't completed everything like a pleb. You need the knife to access certain areas that doesn't even involve killing, like stabbing a certain place 30 times.
Well then. After finishing Lisa the Painful yesterday, I finished Joyful today.
That was some shit.
>Looking through the character bios
>I sold somebody's lover
>selling Toby after recruiting Crisp
I've decided to get around to playing Space Funeral finally, but after downloading the game, I'm greeted with this.
It seems that the font is broken.
It's all blocky, and the letters stick together.
Any way to fix this?
Many lines are completely unreadable.
This is a common problem with the earlier RPG Makers, especially 2k. I'm not sure if any font patches exist for 2003, but some superficial googling suggests that dropping the fonts from 2003's RTP font folder into Windows' Fonts folder might help.
So, would it be wrong of me to assume bullet hell containing any remarkable amount of waifu pandering or fanservice is an almost guaranteed click?
Maybe I've just only seen undertale and touhou, and each has a small mountain of titles using similar grabs which just didn't luck out, but I've never heard of an unsuccessful, quirky in a weeb/dweeb way bullet hell.
>LISA the Painful
>LISA the First
any idea why some people draw the batter with four eyes?
Am I missing something?
I don't think Sluggish Morss is RPG Maker and Hylics isn't really that obscure. I am however bizzarely intrigued by && and 14/? and would like some links on that because I obviously can't find anything on google.
Also this list doesn't seem to contain any "real" RPGs except LISA at all, only horror/surreal games.
I think people have their own way of interpreting Batter's portrait, some see it as him having four eyes instead of one set of eyes and eyebrows. Some interpret the sprite as him having black lines painted underneath his eyes.
Even though some people find out later how the sprite is supposed to look like, they like to draw their first interpretation of him, thinking that it's fun to draw a variation of him instead of the basic "eyebrows and eyes" Batter.
Some also see Zacharie's neck as a huge turtleneck sweater collar
Here's Mortis Ghost's interpretation of the multi-eyed Batter and turtleneck Zacharie
>I will never have figurines of my bros posing on my desktop
