Come join /mhg/ in discord!
Unless you like using the 3ds keyboard,
which is fine I guess.
I played in an all-HH /mhg/ room the other day and we were all glued to the monster. All the HHs I've seen in G rank play similarly, even pubs.
I don't doubt that what you said is based on observation, I just think your observation was swayed somewhat by confirmation bias.

guess that's its way of telling me to stop procrastinating.
Those were some good hunts. but fighting Kush at HR5 might not have been the best idea. just sayin'
ADVANCED THINGS YOU WANT EVERYONE TO DO:
-Wait before entering the monster zone until everyone is there
-If someone is doing something while you're mounted, make the mount last longer
-If you run out of hp, DON'T FUCKING GET UP. You only faint ONCE YOU GET UP. Someone can still heal you or even kill the monster before you automatically get up and faint.
-If you're pinned and the monster has a weak pinning attack, don't mash out. The monster is a sitting duck, let everyone else whack at it. That'll free you anyway.
-When a monster is asleep, don't just wait for someone to attack it, PING WHEN YOU ARE READY. THEN THE STRONGEST WEAPON ATTACKS.
>Wait before entering the monster zone until everyone is there
Waste of time.
>If someone is doing something while you're mounted, make the mount last longer
Waste of time.
>When a monster is asleep, don't just wait for someone to attack it, PING WHEN YOU ARE READY. THEN THE STRONGEST WEAPON ATTACKS.
As if that's necessary. The person with the strongest hit quickly sees if anyone is going to bomb and if not goes for it right away. Waiting for confirmation is a waste of time.
>Wait before entering the monster zone until everyone is there
>Waste of time
So is playing this game at all. At least do it right.
>He'll see if people are trying to bomb
Too many time's the fucking hammer guy hit the head while I was busy walking around to the wing or head to set up bombs. People don't wait, because they have your "hurr durr waste of time" child mentality.
>-Wait before entering the monster zone until everyone is there
>-If someone is doing something while you're mounted, make the mount last longer
Fuck that. Everyone else had enough time.
>-Wait before entering the monster zone until everyone is there
Not really much point to this unless it's sleeping.
At worst you just eat one hit,not the end of the world, at best the monster wastes a roar on you and you get in a free hit or two.
>-If someone is doing something while you're mounted, make the mount last longer
Mounting takes long enough already, if they are doing something that takes longer then they might as well just start cooking meat.
>-When a monster is asleep, don't just wait for someone to attack it, PING WHEN YOU ARE READY. THEN THE STRONGEST WEAPON ATTACKS.
that type of coordination doesn't work too well. Especially if there's a focus GS.
I dawdle for a second or two at most to see if someone's running up to place a bomb. If they are I wait then charge3 the monster and bombs at the same time, if they don't I just charge3 the head. If I don't have the highest raw gs, I'll let another do it instead. Simple as that.
>mount a monster that flies when you ride it
>someone puts bombs where the monster is going to land
>At least do it right
My definition of playing right is killing monsters as fast as I can. Pointlessly sitting around not hitting the monster is what shitters do.
>Too many time's the fucking hammer guy hit the head while I was busy walking around to the wing or head to set up bombs. People don't wait, because they have your "hurr durr waste of time" child mentality.
People are bad and lack awareness so wasting time is how everyone should play xd
Man that's going to be a bitch to craft. I'll see if I can find a lobby with people willing to farm crimson fatty.
That sounds reasonable, though I still need Steve parts to upgrade my hunting horn as well. I guess I can farm for both at the same time and get more KO in my life.
>monster gets falls down on top of the bombs
>guy who out them there just sits there looking at it while everyone waits for him to blow them up
>someone eventually gives up and goes to attack the other side of the monster
>first guy then rushes and hits the bombs blowing everyone up
Chammy SA is my personal favorite.
I hear the steve one is really good.
Sure. Many people consider Evade Extender almost-mandatory (myself included), but you don't absolutely need it. You may want to try it, however, so you don't have to sheathe quite as often. HB, EE, RS and C+2 would be a pretty optimal set, if you can make it.
Short answer: no
Long answer: In 3U you were locked to an invisible table that dictated what charms you got based on the game's clock. They were supposed to cycle every time you loaded your character, but didn't. They work properly in 4U.
That's it. That's my whole usage.
So when normal gunlancing, when am I supposed to shell? I think I remember that it's best to go for full bursts whenever possible with a normal (it's been a while) but outside of that, I forget whether it's best to shell between every poke.
Shell when you are hitting less squishy parts, and to extend combos when you can get more than 3 hits in.
Normal -> Full Burst
Long -> Wyvern Fire
Wide -> Charged shots when poking
Newbie here, I just reached high rank quests in 4U.
I get that the monsters are harder, and thats fine and fun and all,
but wtf why do they drop me off in random spots on the map.
And why do they decide "ehh, we'll drop off your supplies later, when we are feeling it."
Fuckin lazy shitters baka desu senpai
Would anyone happen to have a Kushala/Teostra GQ with Tri Series A (head)? I need to get myself a good-looking relic helm. If you happen to have it at a good level (like 126 up), I'd also be willing to help you level it for a bit as well.
Using items is a crutch. If you want crutches, bring your own.
>Feel the sweet joy of tripping and breaking rathian claws with my new blast Lance on my first chrage.
Monsters face when
I decided to practice GL again so I went hunting Caravan steves since I needed parts. Goddamn this is frustrating. This complete lack of mobility if seriously fucking me up, and blocking his swipes is a pain since there's the bleed aura that lingers. Maybe this isn't the weapon for me.
>mfw I main LS and my hunting buddy mains gunlance
Besides myself I rarely see any HH users. I know you exist but I can count on one hand how many of my own kind I've seen. Hell, I've seen more GL and LS users than HH.
>Trying to do Teostra with randoms
>Just as we're about to get him down, we all simultaneously cart to the supernova
Teostra blasts op pls nerf
Since you asked nicely. But it should be obvious I posted that to show how shit it looks.
I like Blanche, helped me sorta git gud with the dual Raj quest and even gave me a GS bias dual Raj quest
senpai I wanna play with you again, them duo hunts against the dual Raj is fun
>how shit it looks
Well for one thing, anti-aliasing is turned off. I think just like before though, this is a game that is better seen in motion than in screenshots. Superb animation and all that.
5 YEARS OF PROGRESS
WE DID IT BROS
This is some next level shitposting right here.
So I'm getting the hang of the gunlance again and it's just not fun. Whereas other weapons have a nice "flow" to them, GL just feels too rigid, it feels like you're fighting against the controls to be able to position yourself properly, and even full bursts / wyvernfires aren't as satisfying to land as they should be.
Why is GL so bad?
Me neither. Is Blanche supposed to be super good or something? They did alright when I hunted with them but they didn't stand out as particularly amazing, I've seen better players from /mhg/. I'm not shitting on anyone, most of the people I played with here were perfectly capable.
>convince guys in my shop in the Navy to get (back) into MH4
>one of them has it on order already, other borrowed another guys copy
>guy I'm playing with knows the fundamentals of MH

>hey bro what about skills? And defense in general
>"yeah I don't care about that unless the armor looks cool"
>other guy explains that even when they played 3 together before I got, he didn't pay any attention to skills, and only bumbled into them because a set he thought looked cool had skills
>mfw no face
Like... I'm glad to finally get someone local to play with (especially when we're underway and don't have Internet), but is it... Normal to have that one asshole in the group who doesn't give two shits about the RPG aspect? DPS is DPS I suppose, but it frustrates my inner autist
>I don't care about that unless the armor looks cool
I like that guy, he knows how to get REAL skills
No. No making bicycle-senpai your huntress waifu.
How do I get into the bow and the funlance?
Just about all fully upgraded weapons are generally viable. Just use what you find fun or like the looks of, since the moment you start ranking what's better than others you'll be doing it wrong by not using Steve bow.
Relic armor can have multiple versions, if you're getting the wrong appearance then just keep trying. There's something else involving some versions not showing up until the quest is at a certain level, but if you've got a high one you should be past that.
>tfw 5 Alatreon webbings in the rewards

this is dumb why would they do this capcom why
>quest is to hunt a jaggi type shitter

>jaguar stalker enters the area
>no monster noticed you indicator
I wasn't something like Deviljho but instead of just showing up at random and fucking up everything in sight it should stalk you and wait for a moment of weakness before pouncing. For example if you cart then making your way back to the hunt or if you're buffing out of the main monsters zone, pouncing on corner horners etc..
barroth go home you can't ogreedge more than narga your drunk
There's been all this namedropping in the thread and we're all conditioned to believe that it'll result in a complete shitstorm
But no one's playing the game anymore except for people that actually care about the series or newcomers who arrived late, and the shitposters are off sitting up more populated generals
As a result, the few people who still play the game regularly are allowed to socialize like normal human beings without fear of the iphoneshaggy, which was meme to begin with
Dedthread in-between-releases mhg is actually incredibly comfy, we should relish in it while we can
Holy shit, you guys told me there's no good Monster Hunter clones, I present you pic related. I've been playing it as I really only play MH with friends, and they lost interest in 4, but this game is just as good as 4. You guys fucking lied.
Is anyone awake?
Sleepy G crown turns
I was being facetious and saying that you shouldn't repeat a joke within a thread. But you're seriously going to try and pull an, "I did it first."? Well, okay then. Consider me utterly ruined and exposed for the fraud I am. If it's so important to you, you can have it.
How much more retarded can Deviljho get?
What makes him special? Why can't I see shit, captain?
Isn't that just your typical red aura frontier monster?

Too bad he didn't follow the thread long enough to see it's a troll.
>there are retards who think MHX will have a G update
>there are retards who think MHX is not the mandatory 4th gen "Portable"/Freedom game
>there are retards who think MHX won't come to the west
This. We should take out the GS charge too. It's not DMC, it's Monster Hunter, no?. Also return the LS to how it once was. It's too anime now. And take out the DB. This is not Sword Art Online.
>interesting additions that expand playstyle options
>somehow shit on "the fundamentals"
r8 my asymmetrical minimalism set
please note the opposing white handled pistol and crimson rope/bullwhip
But if you like the new play styles you can just play Fantasy XV instead. There's no need to further ruin monhun with that casual garbage. Why does Capcom always destroy their good games?
You do know that the most optimal way to play MHX so far according to demo players is striker GS and never using any of the hunter arts unless the monster is tripped, right
It's literally the same game as always, just with some casual gimmicks attached to attract new audiences, but that are strictly inferior to playing the classic way.
Apparently the city is called Mezepolta as well.
>there are people in this thread right now who didn't complete The Master's Test with the Swinging Scarluq

Powersaves were a mistake.
Come and join a GQ Turn room, post it and we hunt it! On the menu we currently have full Rebellion!
So how do I get my gold crown anyway? I'm still stuck on bronze, deciphered 6 texts so far and done most of the urgents that popped up, but since I'm mostly farming for mats, I haven't been doing all the new quests I unlock.
>It raged so hard its skin just fell off when the muscles bulged
Would actually make a fairly neat subspecies. Unbelievably strong and fast but ass defences and super susceptible to statuses.
You're right, I literally just noticed I moved to silver crown after my 6th text.
So, once I have a crown, be it bronze or gold, I have access to everything in the game, right? I can join G-crown turn rooms even though it's not gold?
there are some quests that have prerequisites to show up on your list that aren't ancient text/crown related (e.g. a couple g3 quests only show up after you've hunted a quota of monsters from a category), but otherwise you can join any mission that's posted by anyone else. i don't think i've seen any non-gold crowns kicked immediately upon joining so it's just up to the host.
How does /mhg/ feel about evasion +1 on Greatsword? I just feel like it gives you so many more openings. Being able to roll through roars, like Tigrex roars, and rev up a level 3 charge on the head, is great. Yet I rarely see people recommending evasion +1, let alone running it with a Greatsword.
I like how Shah has a way different facial structure, you can clearly tell it's way older.
I got e+1 as a bonus on my kush/blos GS set and I love it. It let's me play a bit more agressively. Especially on brach and teo where I can roll through every explosion and keep smacking face.
I didn't have my G-crown when I made this set, so keep that in mind: I'm going to upgrade it soon. But so far it's been good enough to hunt pretty much anything.
Sharp+1, Crit draw, evasion+1, quick sheath, focus
I'd obviously love more things like Attack up, Tenderizer, Focus Draw, but this one gave me all the "utility" skills I needed while I was learning to GS.
>yfw no Super Skrull armor to use Tenderizer with
I like all of them but the Cell, though 50% is still my favorite with 10% as second and 100% as third(for now), the Evangelion stuff in the opening makes it look cooler. I also like that they're clearly planning out a few creepy things with it.
Now back to MH, what do you guys think it's the most useful but underrated or underused skill? I mean stuff like Mycology.
I thought Punish Draw was one of the essential skills to have on a GS set similar to Crit Draw? Currently I'm running with a mixed set of Nargacuga and Diablos and have the skills Sharpness+1, Crit Draw, Quick Sheath, Tremor Resist, Evasion+1, and Trap Master. I'm sure there's one more but I can't think off the top of my head what it is.
See, as a bonus, I would agree it's fantastic.
Kind of similar to Tri where I had tremor resist. Never would ever build for it, but as a bonus (from blos components), it was great. Whenever I played with something different, I'd notice all the opportunities I lost from having to worry about tremors.
Statistically not worth it.
Nope, that's a good GS set. It's just, like you said, the E+1 is a bonus. It's not worth it to build towards, but a great skill stacked on top of sharpness/crit draw/focus that every GS should have.
It's absolutely not essential. The timing of GS means if you're doing charge attacks, a lot of the fatigue you build up on the monster dissipates, so you either need to give up charges (no, bad), or you're not fatiguing the monster much more.
You also won't usually get more than one KO, and that's if you're going hard for the head. Which, hitting the head is ideal, but A) as a GS you should spend a lot of your time at the tail, and B) you're opening yourself up to more damage and fewer hits/trips than you normally would.
Punishing Draw is in an obnoxious tweener area, where it's too hard to get to be a bonus, and but not good enough to be a primary skill.
Also, what >>121363669 said. Focus is, unlike Punishing Draw, an actual GS essential, and also pretty easy to get.
Eating. It's not a bad skill, but not enough extra damage to have in place of the obvious skills.
A great artillery talisman can change that.
Assuming you brought combines, aren't fighting a giant sponge, and you're making every shot count; It shouldn't be an issue.
At the very least, it'll be nearly dead by the time you run out.
>Remobra has a snake head so its now a Snake Wyvern

I like how before going to this game people warned me of Long Sword users and to not become one to NOT fuck people up, but the only people that seem to fuck me over are Gunlance players.
Hey if it was your room with the G2 Zinorge, I'm sorry. I made a sandwich while I was waiting for you to finish gravios earlier and when we finally got around to starting Zinogre I had lost all interest in playing. I died eating a sandwich and realized that it be a good idea to just ditch.
As a Gunlance main, I shell a lot but don't blast people away (excluding the occasional Wyvern Fire and not being able to aim away from the others jumping in front of me). The trick is to do vertical shells.

whelp 200 hours was fun, thanks guys
Rarely will you ever see a GL hunter. Mostly because of that.
The main reason people warn you of LS is because those hunters rarely care at all that they are doing it and will just spam that shit right next to you. GL hunters try their damnedest to avoid it but with both shelling and WF being area explosions that aren't stopped on the monster, anything that isn't upstab into shelling is almost impossible to not hit another hunter with.
Thats not really fair though, LS hunters need to spam to get their bar up, if you dont mash R 5-6 times while the moneter is down you'll never level it up.
Other hunters just need to learn to go for other monster parts. Tails belong to LS.
They probably just let the carcass go to waste. The game would be 100% better if we were able to use the entire monster instead of only being limited to 4-5 carves.
Killed a Tigrex? Nice, you get a set of 20 fangs, 12 claws, a tail and a shit ton of scales.
Make skinning/butchering a monster a new minigame, capcom.
This is why you should only ever cheat for the finest in relic weapons. You then use those to skip the garbage end game grind and just spend your time hunting monsters to make everything else.
I don't see anything different between th is game and current mh, for ex mh4u. Outside the fact a shit ton of mobs being there during a hunt.
Shit hitboxes is something that the series always had. Mobs slapping you while you're trying to hit a big monster is still a thing. And big monsters flying away at bad timings will always be a thing.
>Kill one monster
>Can make a whole armor set and weapon out of it immediately
Yeah no. Like it or not, grind is a cornerstone of the MH formula. It's geared specifically for your reward center in your brain. It's what keeps people playing so long, what makes people feel successful when they finally get to wear that armor set or wield that weapon. Hunting monsters is great, absolutely, but giving reasons to hunt them repeatedly other than for the sake of it is what racks up the 1000+ hour playtimes
How I always liked to think of it as what you carve off are the only usable pieces left. So during the fight say you slice up the scales and make most unusable.
Ironic bit of thinking since you get pieces as rewards for breaking parts off.
I was gonna argue but I only have like 450 hours between 3U and 4U rather than the 2000 or 3000 a lot of people here apparently have so maybe that just doesn't apply to me. I don't go in for "addictive" stuff usually.
Even 200 hours is considered "low" by MH standards, which feels absurd in comparison when many other non-mmo games are lucky to hit 50 anymore. Even people who don't grind for best-of-the-best gear still have a minimum of grind to do, and many people in the middle (like me) like to try different weapons and armor skill setups and silly gimmicky things to change how the game is played and have more gear to work at. Like I said before, the hunting is fun and really helps stave off the feeling of grinding when you're enjoying yourself anyway, but that doesn't make the game any less grindy in reality
IN terms of the SnS they're about even, Daora has a higher damage floor from its higher element and benefits slightly more from raw-increasing skills from its positive affinity, Eldaora has a higher damage ceiling and doesn't benefit as much from raw-increasing skills from its terrible affinity, as well as lacking slots and having very little white sharpness.
>Ice this gen is mostly Eldaora > Daora
Eldaora frequently has the same effective raw as Daora because of the extremely low affinity, and much less ice element so element being unaffected by crits isn't relevant. The guns are the exception. The only advantage Eldaora weapons have is innate purple sharpness, but they have so little purple and white that you need razor sharp with them and even then it's barely anything (and less than what Daora has with S+ most of the time).
Though in the case of SnS razor sharp Eldaora's has about the same combined white and purple as Daora's and more of it is purple. SnS's MV is 18 on average (iirc). Daora has 49 effective true raw after MV and before sharpness and resistances and 35 ice damage before sharpness and resistances, Eldaora has 54 and 22 respectively. Eldaora has more raw but if you're just going for raw and not actually elemental you shouldn't be using either. Daora has more combined element and raw, and two slots to boot. The double purple by taking RS on Eldaora instead of S+ on Daora is significant though, and should be your main consideration along with slots when choosing between the two, but then both have pretty shit sharpness for an SnS regardless.
What about the Rajang HH - the Denden Doomsounder? It seems pretty good for an all rounder to me with attack boost l, melody durations extended and 2 slots.
But I've never seen anyone use it. There must be something wrong with it, right?
nah denden doomsounder is my breadnbutter horn. that red/orange songset is the best.
I switch between it and the white fatty horn when I'd rather have dragon element, but its the same song set
Nah, it's great. I think people just find it appealing to not have to use Sharpness+1/Honed Blade on their sets. Depending on your charms, it can really open up more options, and three of the best HHs don't need S+1.
Constantly shelling when a monster is downed is so helpful!
Sorry for launching you man, gonna shell that weakpoint bruh
Remember, it's Ls that's the disruptive weapon even though they haven't been disruptive since after tri and modern SA totally doesn't take that role but add a fucking upswing
LS is still disruptive, it's just not as bad as SA, IG or a bad GL. In all of the above cases you can play it without being disruptive, though, unless you're fighting something small like a drome but then who gives a fuck.
>Switch to axe mode
>Everyone closes in and starts smacking it
>Mash A like a moherfucker and send them all flying away
>Charge up ultra
>Hit my team mates and send them flying further.
CB is so much fun.
Seriously, who the fuck are you people and why do you play with such shit SA users
Its primary methods of attack are vertical, why are you standing directly in front of them holy fuck
Not him but even without AEDs I have problems with CB users who walk up to other players regardless of what part of the monster they're attacking and start swinging wildly. Part of the problem is probably that I mostly use SnS which is just as bad as lance for getting tripped but more mobile, but I think a lot of it is that CB doesn't require you to evade much to avoid damage and is difficult to trip itself so they don't realise what a total pain in the ass they are.
>I mostly use SnS which is just as bad as lance for getting tripped
I use SnS and I almost never get tripped, you know why? I use the X+A attack or back A. That jump reset your "super armor" each time you do it, since it ends as soon as you stop attacking if you did an unsheath combo. It's a great combo move too. Monsters won't trip you too, which is pretty good.
Who here /DragonsealGQ/ and if so, can I take it off of you?
I legitimately don't understand these people's complaints. LS has essential attacks that are horizontal and wide-reaching. You cannot choose to use non-disruptive attacks and remain effective. It's built into the weapon.
The SA has a lot of horizontal, tripping attacks, and a launch, but none of them are essential for effective play, and none of them are part of combos. They're all optional. If you get tripped by an SA user only using vertical attacks (and not the launch), it's because you're standing directly in front of them. There's literally no other way to get tripped.
Yeah but that doesn't help with your poise most of the time. Poise or "super armour" is based on what animation you're currently in, not some value that gets reset by certain animations.
You already have your girl dolls, time to join the other cool bunch and get a horse doll yourself!
Horses are dumb, buy an exploding dragon instead.
