Spinning out of control Edition
Note: the general consensus at /kspg/ is that you should torrent the game, rather than purchasing it. The developer, Squad, is incompetent, extremely mismanaged, and is very resistant to all feedback or criticism. Furthermore, the game itself is poorly made, lacks a proper development team, and is in need of a serious physics and optimization overhaul, something that Squad is likely never to give it. In fact, we at /kspg/ believe that they are planning on abandoning development of the game altogether at some point within the next year. They do not deserve your shekels.

If I know how much mass my spaceplane is surely I can roughly work out how fast it needs to go or how much lift it needs to take off?
Also someone told me that you want the centre of mass behind the centre of lift because reasons, but the OP says differently, who is right?
I'd almost say we need a legit RP mod, built upon systems to encourage you to build realistic stuff for intelligent reasons.
I know some anon had RPG rules for calculating part failures a'la BARIS, but I didn't think to save them.
>everyone praises FAR
>give it a go
>Make squat little plane
>go really fucking fast holy shit
>turn half a degree
>Explode into bits
>go really fucking slow
>turn half a degree
>explode into bits
Why does FAR turn every plane into fucking matchsticks?
guys I think Overkill is taking a lesson from Squead in how to piss off customers
they spend the last month hyping up the payday 2 community and then the "big" announcement is that they're making a completely unrelated game-in 2 years
I'm aware of that, but I'm not even going fucking fast and the planes literally rip themselves apart. It's not even that complicated of a plane.
it's this without the VTOL thrusters.
Guess fucking so. Far lets things go WAY faster than the vanilla soupy atmosphere. I can get to the maximum "safe" speed of 170-200 m/s with like 8% engine power.
that's kind of a ballache. what's the point of having engines even go fast?
It's not FAR. Look at this shitty plane. It can go over mach 4.5, I stopped because of heat. In real life, top speed is limited by engines. In KSP, turbojet engine never loses thrust with speed.
Basic jet engine does that though
>they didn't make a launch vehicle called Delta V
But it's such an obvious joke!
To let the Russkies get to it, and then to let them get butthurt over the sanctions and eventually take their ball and go home.
The Yuropoors have their launching facilities over in French Guiana, the Mericans have their launching facilities at Cape Canaveral, Vandenberg, Spay Sex Texas, and that one in Virginia. The Japs have theirs over in Kagoshima, which is more south than Vandenberg.
In all practicality if the ISS had excluded those traitorous Russians from the beginning, it could have been placed at 32 degrees inclination. 38 if you absolutely had to have Wallops. It would have allowed heavier launches and more modules for the same amount of fuel so far spent, theoretically.
I'm excluding China's launch facilities not only because they're more south than Kagoshima but also because the US has their panties perpetually in a bunch over the Chinese space program.
>ONE launch site for ONE of the countries is at 0 degrees
>the rest of the world is fucked
>except for desert bitches and the equivalent of bolivia in the middle of the bigger continental mass
really, that's now international at all, again, there's a reason why the ISS is at 51.6 degrees.
STOP THINKING MY POST IS SPAM YOU FUCKING MOOT I'LL FUCK YOU WEARING A CHEESE GRATER AS A CONDOM
Sure, but they are roleplaying an international station, meaning they shouldn't limit it to countries having launch sites at 0 degrees, which should be a really low number considering realistic population distributions.
I got tired of 4chan believing my post was spam so I started adding random shit
For some reason it keeps thinking my posts are spam, I believe it's not accepting the degree char.
>Don't go above 8g
>Landing gear has light by default
>Stop doing the stupid LE K TO EVERYTHING XDD meme
>You are using two of the most powerful engines in the game for a very small plane.
That's about it
but because this is ULA the engine kept exploding in the lab and raking out the entire southeast US and raining guns and burgers on the rest
the first time it happened it killed Corn Willis and America won the revolution
Results over rhetoric
>he is just jealous
>he can not into space
In fact I took the time to replicate your plane minus the vernier abuse faggotry.
You can reach mach 3 at sea level, which means pulling about 9g by suddenly changing your heading by 4 degrees, which will rip anything apart.
>Just open stream and waiting for it to load
>3, 2, 1, liftoff
>watching a phallus shaped object penetrating the skies
Also is it just me or is this angled?
I miss the KSP launch tower...
different launch sites, when?
"Imagine a world where you can do something better... Digital Globe has invested in commercial satellite industry...."
>satellite launch immediately followed by advertisements for the satellite
The flight dynamics of things in the atmosphere are hilariously awful, I wouldn't even bother with a spaceplane. You want the center of lift near but ahead of the center of mass, otherwise you won't ever get off the runway (not that you probably will anyway since the aerodynamics are so shit).
>the whole launch stream was just an ad for the satellite
>elon's reaction when
I suppose the text could be a higher resolution, but that doesn't really bother me. Hell, I had to look at if for a bit to even see anything really wrong. You can touch it up if you want, it just doesn't bother me considering the context and intent.
If I wanna launch something at 50 degrees inclination from KSC is it better to launch normally into a 0 degree inclination and manuever after I'm in orbit or to launch at heading 040 from launch and do it that way?
Is it possible to change inclination without shifting the apopsis or periapsis, I always seem to move them about and it annoys me, how can I work out where to burn to stop, presumably somewhere inbetween but then the inclination change is less efficient?
You have 10 seconds to justify why you haven't switched to OpenGL yet.
That's not the efficient way.

waiting to hear that your lobbying failed
waiting to suck a cock for pocket change
waiting to then repeat

waiting for new rockets and engines to be tested
waiting for those last two steps to be repeated
waiting for those steps to then be repeated with trained astronauts

.25 followed by .26, which will get "surprise!" renamed to 1.0 by max in a ceremony with 20 foot tall banners of himself holding a papercraft kerbal and his right arm fully extended with an open hand salute
then squad will drop all support and sue the community that tries to fix things by creating open source APIs
then we will all die. wondering what it would have felt like to have played a KSP produced by competent american software engineers, instead of a tequila drinking mariachi band.
Assuming an average of 105 days between updates, 75 updates would take 7875 days, or 21.6 years.
But really, stay tuned because soon there will be an announcement saying that 0.25 will be renamed to 1.0. The billies will love it.
so we're all watching the thread, pouncing the first bait we see, but don't have any topics to discuss ourselves?
but I will settle for playing bahamuto's armory with you faggots on sytes' server. WHERE ARE YOU SYTES?
I'm not sytes, but I refuse to play until all these mods are on the server
Mod a fuel tank or something to have an infinitely-high crash tolerance and fill it with solid fuel to your desired mass. Make it a docking port if you want, or make people use the claw. Set its craft type to flag in the persistence file
there is no server. we need someone with a PC to host and have bahamuto (and we're still not sure it'll work)
okay another gametype: island runway base versus mountain range base, fighting for control of KSC (or is KSC where ppl can't see your craft, even after launch?)
kerbal engineer for finding craft TWR and delta V
DMagic orbital science gives some more science stuff to do
MKS for stations and bases
final frontier if you like to roleplay your kerbals
It's not that it's urgent, it's just that it's something so simple and so obvious to be added. Attaching two pods directly together and then having to EVA to move between them is just silly.
i can send you .03 of a bitcoin, retard.
I'm not going to, but I could.
why is the audio quality such shit in this interview
and I'm taking bets on how long it'll be before he stops answering questions. 45 seconds is the lowest possible bet you can make and seven minutes is the highest
What's the consensus on Karbonite?
Doing a clean install and wondering if I should get it or just stick with Kethane.
Hmm, sure. I get to HQ (10:00 AM, 10:10 if I'm late), say hi to everyone. Sit down at my desk and respond to all the emails I got overnight. Deal with them as necessary, sometimes its legal stuff, sometimes its PR stuff (of which I still do quite a bit). After that I talk to Rows about the social media stuff and how the official community is doing, then I do my offsite community sweep and start drinking my coffee (this is usually 11:00AM), then I compare notes with Lalo our PM and start talking one on one with everyone to check progress and offer suggestions (actually managed to cut almost two weeks worth of dev time by suggesting something to Harv last week). This goes on until Lunch time (2:00PM), we get an hour for lunch but I'm usually done in 15 minutes and then I just mess around or the internet, hang out with the team, play games til 3:00PM, after that I usually spend half an hour talking to management and marketing about anything that needs their attention, then the next three hours I it's more producer stuff, talking QA plans with Ted, art with Dan, design with Harv, etc. Then it's 5 minutes til the day's over so I play something with the guys.
It's not a bad at all, within scope too I think.
Hey, you guys asked for something that needed a kinda big response and I'm also playing EO4 while responding.
Could you point me to the moment where I say it in the interview? I can't really remember most of what I said in the interview.
I'm kinda flattered by the idea where even before I was producer I had the pull and weight to flat out cut features. I think it's way too early to say impact and legacy. So far I've helped broaden our communities and media attention as PR manager, as producer I'm just starting.
Nope, design at that level was something I just had a voice in but its still not really my call at any level. I have more say in stuff now but it's still Harv's game.
Work was still going on them when I got hired. Slowing down and growing less and less optimistic but still there.
He wasn't crying but letting people know resources were not happening was so not easy for him.
please comment on this quote:
"For some reason some people like to think Kerbals are sloppy engineers only capable of producing inherently broken designs held together by duct tape. To them, proposing something prim and proper like a NASA VAB could be built by Kerbals is ridiculous."
Also, please comment on Squad's turnover rate
I miss Artyom too.
No real comment on the turnover rate since everyone at the office has been involved in the project since the beginning, but I will say C7 and Artyom are excellent guys found new stuff to do.
Haha, I know. I hadn't posted in a couple weeks now and this happens.
how do you feel about legacy mods that were lost when spaceport was scrapped?
what are some examples of uses of the word "kerbal" that you're likely to enforce your trademark for?
did you ask the subreddit to change it to "space frogs" ?
>even if it means no animation for 0.25.
That seems like a more than fair trade, assuming the two of them are capable of producing game-optimised assets that fit the stock aesthetic. I can see Dan being able to fit the look easily enough since he's defined part of it, but whether he can create something suitable for real-time rendering as opposed to cinematics I'm curious about. And Roger we just have no idea about.
Can't be worse than Hugo, good God his work was bad.
Not great :/ we still have the database and everything backed up but god if Spaceport's backend isnt the ugliest thing.
If people use it commercially. Noncommercial is okay.
No, the mods love calling it space frog space program and I aint hating.
Are you and the team looking to fill out the program and turn it into the incredible achievement it could be over versions .27, 28, 29, or are you eager to hit 1.0 and pushing hard for it?
>What ever happened to that harv crying webm?
I was going to make it
Dan is more than capable. They have their work cut out for them though. We're not ready to talk about the project they are on but they are effectively booked for nonstop 3D modelling work til December. And no its not female models.
Hugo did great work for the poly budget he was set for and being a 4th semester student. His new work's even better, I'll see if we can showcase his new MK3 stuff tomorrow.
We're in a position where we can kinda see scope complete out in the distance and we're working towards it, but 1.0? Not even close. We do wanna shake the early access thing something fierce.
I'm reading that as a suggestion that squad would actually continue developing past 1.0
that notion almost begins to melt my icy heart
I'm out. remember, don't believe the lying liars' lies.
That'd be the Project Manager. I became Producer because I was already doing a lot of the duties of one and management wanted someone closer to the project to take care of optimization and more of the nitty gritty stuff while Lalo handles general strategy and deadlines.
Hey now, I've lost 5 kilos the past month and a half... so much to go still though, dang.
You're right and I'm seriously considering it.
At this point its wholly irrational. Thread got so shitty before. But yeah, also with the added visibility 4chan kinda loses its point if I can't be candid here without stuff being everywhere, now that you bring it up.
At home with his family by now I'd imagine.
>I can't be candid here without stuff being everywhere
You're the producer of an extremely popular game with secretive devs. No, you can't be candid while still retaining your identity in any capacity.
How about that Korean woman that just left the KSA? You think the US's program is fucked? The Koreans literally don't have anymore astronauts now, their only one quit.
I'd say go with Christa instead. Although that could be viewed as insensitive. You guys should hire a PR guy or something.
I should clarify can't be candid about KSP while still retaining your identity. But that's basic PR, so you already knew that.
Speaking of PR please tell Rows to stop locking threads that 'confuse' him (express dissatisfaction with the structure of the dev notes)
Do you realize that a lot of the backlash against resources being cancelled was because Harv's arguments for it were absolute shit and made it look like Squad was just taking the path of least effort?
Kerbal Experience as a whole is part of the plan. I'd like it to be at that extent so we'll see.
I have a cousin named Emily, she's an absolutely terrible person, so no.
That's a relief. For the record, I recently used a tech tree editor and tried a configuration that made me make aircraft before spaceships. I'm not demanding it be one way or another but a certain amount of flexibility in the tech tree would really make career much more engrossing.
I like the idea of being able to buy individual parts with funds/science, perhaps at slightly inflated price.
I think Science would make much more sense if the tech tree were loosened up a bit. My 2¢
Will we finally be getting in-game difficulty options soon? Being able to turn off stock craft/quicksaving/quickloading was a really great feature, even if it's stuck in the debug area
The wonders of a niche market with limited supply
The mouth has a set shape and definition. The anus is made to accommodate whatever turgid things you send out your ass and therefore stretches naturally. I'd imagine that it would hurt like a motherfucker though, but I'm not a butt slut like some members of the community.
this anon gets it
perhaps these guys just drink too much soda and eat too much and get constipated all the time so their anuses stretched themselves from painful shit after painful shit and eventually having asspains made them develop a fetish for it
Seriously though, if you're drinking more than one soda a week, preferbly biweekly, you're fucking up big time. I cut that shit out down to extremely occasional instances and started walking more and I've lost 20 pounds so far this year. Count them calories and get a pedometer and you too can stop be a fat piece of shit.
Unless you're birdfucker, then go fucking eat something already dammit.
I have not, its in my backlog though.
We're currently looking at +/- %sliders for all 3 currencies, will see if we can also squeeze in stuff like reentry or acceleration damage so the G meter has more of a meaning.
Tell me about it. I went from 98 kgs to 78 from switching to coke zero. still have 8 to go to go back to my highschool weight though.
We're working with a smaller timeframe now, but you know what they say about best laid plans.
>being alive in general
all that flesh and skin and muscle weighing you down
skeleton master race
>immune to average fires
>no need for food, air, or clothes
we're perfect for space, we dont even need suits
I wish NASA would stop hating on us skeletons and let us into space
It's delicious if you just fill a glass with ice til you cant fit any more ice in then fill the spaces inbetween the ice with it.
The idea is to have it be entirely modular, so you can just crank everything on to the hardest possible if you want.
If you'd switch to water, you'd feel 10 times better. The gf would appreciate it too I'm sure.
tfw the gf has started commenting on lost weight and more muscle massIt's not just the calories, diabetes is a major risk too. High Fructose Corn Syrup is hella bad for you.
You're one of 3 or so people here that has an identity. I don't care about Satch and I'm fairly sure catfucker isn't real, so you get called out. And besides, neither of them drunk post about how skinny they are and nearly die from it.
Are you familiar with the Silent Hunter series? They've got a similar realism options setup, it combines all the options you choose into a 'realism percentage'. Pic related
Okay. I hope you don't mean "modular' like the way the contract autogenerated text is "modular"
What's the point in having it if it doesn't mean anything? It wouldn't be that hard to write a template for each type of mission and fill in the proper nouns and adjectives.
I don't mean to be overly critical but it just seems like things sometimes lack a finished polish. I know it's before your time but someone really needs to take care of the rest of the IVAs, it's been two years.
I wasn't drunk though, I was just bored
like alwaysand also scared.
And apparently I still haven't fully recovered from that huge
1.5kgweight loss of last month. I'm 200g below my self-drawn absolute maximum line. I should eat something right now before losing any weight.
No HFS in coke zero, or any calories for that matter. It's full of stuff that isn't fantastic to have in your body though. Thinking about switching to green tea since really its just the caffeine I'm after.
We thought it was funny, basically. Might get a pass later, but the difficulty panel we're looking at is kinda like >>76815092
Eat the bird. Stop drinking soda too. Regardless of whether you are experiencing weight gain or not from it, the second your metabolism has had enough, you're fucked. I gained 50 pounds in a year when mine packed its bags. You want to start a decent eating habit now so you don't hit that wall like a damn train. I recommend taking up cooking, it's a valuable skill and you generally have a higher quality intake of food than otherwise. Healthy body, healthy mind.
Crockpots are cheap and easy ways to make meals. Perfect for college. Trust me on this.
See above, it's not just the contents, it's the mindset too. But no HFS is a great start. If you want some tea, I know a girl that can hook you up with some good stuff.
Wait, were you the one on here talking about tea a few threads back?
I took a picture of the Moon with my 300mm lens on my camera, measured its average diameter in pixels, found the average angular diameter of the Moon at the time I took the picture (from an LRO video), and calculated that my lens has a resolution of 4.62 arcseconds per pixel, and to distinguish two objects they need to be 9-15 arcseconds apart.
Theoretically, if I take a picture of Jupiter, it should be about 6-11 pixels in diameter, while the Galilean Moons should be up to 130 pixels away at the most.
Interestingly, the theoretical maximum angular resolution of a lens with its diameter (58mm I think) is about 2-4 times greater than I'm achieving, so I'm happy with the lens.
Too bad that Jupiter isn't easily visible in the night sky for a few more months, although I could take some meaningful images of Mars, Venus, and Saturn. The ISS moves too fast for me to make any meaningful images of it without a better and more stable tripod. The ISS would be up to 13 pixels wide.
Since you're still answering, what's the deal with mixing up the timing for .23.5 and .24 -- nasamission was supposed to be the first contract, right? I thought you guys were gonna reconcile that and set up a DLC situation modders might be able to make a little bread off of.
Then maybe they could mod more and further improve the games available content... glorious cycle, ya know?
Or is that not part of a producer's job? Is there a "product" guy?
I didn't say stop
ok I did, just limit it. Make it an occasional think. Once or twice a week at most. NEVER get it a restaurant. Stick to bottles so you know how much you're taking in. Saves a fucking lot of money too. Drinking as much as you do is asking for you to lose a foot down the line.
My parents don't have diabetes though. I won't go down easily. But it can happen. I just, really hate water, I don't even want to drink it, I don't like the taste at all.
But then I will use beer, which costs way more than that.
I need to drink, booze is my only friend. Nobody can take it away from me.
We could have just called 23.5 24, but we wanted to give it a special number to commemorate working with NASA. I'm not sure what you mean about a DLC situation for modders. Also I'm going to bed in like 10 mins so I guess closing up shop here pretty soon.
I have two words Anon. They will change your life as soon as you experience it.
You will never feel pain like that. Guess what causes them? Hint: It's high intake of sodas and juice among other things.
Thanks for stopping by, have a burrito on us tomorrow.
>I just, really hate water, I don't even want to drink it, I don't like the taste at all.
I have sensitive taste that makes even pure water without minerals and stuff taste kind of bitter.
I still drink it
nevermind. you have content creators and a potential controlled marketplace, it doesn't take a genius to see the connection.
Just be careful how you treat the modders, they're the real lifeblood of the game. And nobody's really singing curse's praises right now. But yeah, thanks for the candid answers. A trip would help.
Yeah, just filter it. If that doesn't work, use some of those water flavor things they sell sparingly until you get to where you can drink it. I have a large mason jar I keep full of water in the fridge at all times if I ever get thirsty. If your piss isn't clear, drink more.
I had 2 in about 4 months and said fuck that. Cut out all the OJ i was drinking (almost as much as your soda) and all the soda I could. Shit is agony and there's literally nothing you can do but wait and try not to move.
Elon Musk's SpaceX sued for labor violations
>Elon Musk's SpaceX, the private space launch provider, is being sued by former employees who say they weren't allowed to take breaks, weren't paid overtime, and that the company failed to give them enough warning before a big round of layoffs.
>Two lawsuits, seeking class action status, were filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court within the past week.
He done goofed.
I sadly see no way to prevent this unless we add a whole subsystem that plots the theoretical route that the Kerbal will follow inside the ship from one end to the other. I know having Jeb squeeze through a cubic octagonal strut will not be fantastic but I know it beats having to go EVA for everything, but this anon may have a point >>76817271
I want to dude, but this feels really relaxed and liberating, and grabbing a trip again means the moment I say something some anon doesn't like it'll get plastered everywhere.
Anyways, night KSPG. Nice talking to you again.
Part of the reason I would not want to work there - met a few at a TBP national convention, 70 hr week minimum, 80+ typical for the same pay as any other entry job is not appealing regardless of the fame of the company.
ModuleManager. There's a true/false passable flag, one for whether surface attachments should be passable, one if any specific nodes shouldn't be passable, one for if it should be passable when surface attached, that sort of thing
If it's a capsule that doesn't have the bottom marked as not passable, yeah.
Look at ConnectedLivingSpace. That's exactly what it does, it's just a few more things to config for each part once you have the system
You have a valid point and I can do nothing to convince you otherwise ;_;
/r/ engineering is basically saying "Yup, that sounds like all the accounts i've heard from that place"
>I'm posting this because I have a friend who works there as an engineer (and I'm sure many of you do too), he consistently does at least 70 hours a week. This lawsuit looks like it's coming from technicians. I'm glad to see someone's wising up about their practices.
I hope that there will be some changes for the salaried workers as well.
>This honestly doesn't surprise me after what I've heard about the company. I'm one of those people who is super passionate about what SpaceX is doing but I still think they're doing it the wrong way. You can't make tremendous progress at the expense of your employees. I'm to the point now where I would seriously have to think twice about working for them if I was offered a job. A few years ago I would have chugged the kool aid.
I'll compromise though. Don't believe anything anyone claiming to be me says until they verify with my twitter. I will not be posting here at all without doing so.
Okay. Sleeping for real now.
