It depends on so many variables.
Atlus developed the engine for P5 completely in-house. If they developed that engine anticipating the PS4, it won't be as hard as it might seem. The PS4 dev kits have been around since, what, late 2012 or so?
If they didn't though, it could be as bad as writing a new engine from scratch for PS4 and that will greatly increase development time.
I'd argue P1 and P4 still have the most 'grounded' characters in the series, in that it was mostly fairly ordinary individuals with normal lives that get tossed into crazy shit. P2/P3 has some wacky, unusual backgrounds for nearly every main character, usually trying to connect the cast together. Not sure what direction P5's heading in.
The rumor going around was that P5 started in development for PS4, switched over to PS3, and now is cross-gen, and that the delay wasn't because of the move back to PS4. I'm guessing that them going cross-gen in the first place is hoping that they won't lag behind an entire generation this time around.
Provided the engine was designed to be easily portable (it ought to be), the only problem really is moving from Cell to x86. The Cell is a nightmare to develop for. Like, "hand-written assembly for better optimisation" levels of madness.
All in all id say the ps4 version is definitely a cause for delay. Hashino went on record going "it sure would be nice to put it on ps4 but we just dont have the resources" and then they go and do this, even sacrificing a significant reveal for that shitty conference.
Sony pulled out the wallet for this one, thats for sure. Not complaining about it coming to ps4, just that im sure that they jumped on an opportunity given to them by $ony.
Teddie obviously sticks out as the mascot character, but Naoto's about as unusual as it gets for the cast; an orphan whose parents were in the police force. Junpei's one of the few
and bestcharacters in P3 that has a relatively 'normal' backstory.
For complaining that everyone who likes a different game than you are all trying to ruin the series and aren't real fans.
Quick question: if Sony was able to get P5 on the PS3 and the PS4, why couldn't they get P4 on the PS2 and the PS3? I know the PS3 in its early days was a trainwreck, but was it that bad that Atlus just denied all the money they were thrown?
P4G clearly was made with PS3 in mind, but then shifted to Vita to push it. All those considerably higher-res textures and such are completely lost on Vita, especially since the game doesn't even run at Vita's native resolution.
So are you going to buy P5 for PS3 or PS4?
I don't own a PS4 and because P5 is coming to PS3 too I'm not sure it's the killer game I need to compel me to get one.
I guess I'm just going to wait and look at screens. If the PS4 version looks way better I might go ahead and pull the trigger on it.
I would guess that Atlus is only porting P5 to PS4 because Sony is tossing money at them. Before P4, the Persona series wasn't as high profile so Sony probably didn't give a shit.
Honestly I agree with him. Even in the weird cases of Rise, Naoto, and Teddie while their exact nature is a bit odd, their problems and personalities are a bit more common. Compare this to say billionaire heiress Mitsuru and orphan who couldn't save his sister and is traumatized by it Akihiko. These problems are a bit more unusual.
This isn't a judgment. I think both work in their own way.
It was two years already into the PS3 cycle, it wouldn't affect much of the install base at that point.
Persona 5 is coming out early in the cycle and Sony is desperate for new games that aren't HD ports of games 5 years ago.
>MC being really short
This does things to me.
Definitely PS3 for first playthrough.
First because my PS3 is on CFW, second because I'll be able to rip the game open like I did with P4U2 and third because I want to make an undub as I can't stand most of Fatlus USA dubs.
Idol characters are the norm, and prince is a common nickname thing.
andro traps are arent unheard of either.
You're trying to root P4 in reality instead of anime highschool reality.
I think a better question is this.
If you have a PS3 and a PS4, hypothetically or in reality, and you knew the PS4 version was better but you had to wait a month for its release, would you buy P5 for the PS3 or wait the extra month?
Gimme your best Yu x Naoto art aka best pairing. I'll start
Better how? Better graphics? I'll just go ahead and get the PS3 version (assuming I have a PS4 by then).
Better in that there's a lot of really good exclusive content? That would be a tougher decision.
Don't worry, I've played plenty of P3. I'm ready for this.
>Not liking english Labrys
Holy shit you have bad taste
>not double naoto
Labrys dub, Ulala-Yukiko's [beep] swearing, and Yukari/Rise in general, are easily the best voice acting things in the series.
Seriously, what was the point in changing him? His Eng VA was okay.
No more Troy Baker is shit too, god damn it Atlus will never have more VA's other than the small circle of animu voice actors.
This is the only picture I have though, all my good ones are on my desktop.
If you're basing it on anime highschool how are any of the backgrounds unusual? Rich girls and orphans are dime a dozen.
I know it's not. They keep calling her that instead of just a detective is what's stupid. She's not 'the' prince, she's 'a' prince.
>Hey this beauty pageant is totally awesome! we got an idol and a detective prince!
>how are any of the backgrounds unusual?
No one said they were.
3/4 are archetype general.
Doesnt make them inherently bad, just nothing new.
>tfw no new Yosuke strut sprite gifs
looks like some dumbass was using Marie on ranked
I'm playing FES right now and Mitsuru's dad just died and holy fuck that was awful. I couldn't feel sad because Mitsuru just sounded comically bad
I'm downloading the undub for FES right now and I'm about to find out if JAP really is better
Mitsuru's jap VA is pretty great, and isnt married to that MC/Yosuke jerk
Yeah that part was bad, though i didn't mind the P3 dub much, undub is so much fucking better. They have the best of the best as far as Japanese voice actors goes, might as well go all out too.
I'm sure it's right around the corner.
Pre-order P5 to get the P5 hero as DLC in Ultimax. Also probably some special Personas and weapons from previous games like Orpheus and Izanagi. I'm not expecting anything substantial though I do hope when they do the inevitable FES/Golden version that we can just download it as an expansion for the base game.
I honestly don't give a damn about dub/undubs as long as it sounds good but wow FES really has some great moments being ruined and I've had enough.
I'd like games to have dual-audio as a backup or just for curiosity for second playthroughs but when it doesn't happen, at least modders know what to do
It's a pity because he looks really good without the dumb helmet.
So we're all in agreement that the school logo in P5 is based off of Citroën?
Get the Limited Edition for $20 more, and you get the hottest in-game item, the New P.A.D.! This will let you browse the internet, play games* and use almost any app you can imagine!
And by play games, I mean emulate most of the earlier Persona games.
Do you think they'll bring back gambling minigames in P5?
Gambling and fishing minigames are the tits but I doubt they'd put another fishing game in P5 with it being in the city
Yeah. He was probably a bit pissed when isocchi mentioned it (jokingly said he wanted to punch her on twitter) but hes friends with the two hosts; mafia kajita is his assistant on his radio show too.
Sugitas way more into persona 1 and devil summoner than p3 or p4. He was probably trolling ami koshimizu by wearing the yukiko outfit. I believe he said he was going to wear that or rise (probably to troll rie kugimiya who costarred in gintama with him)
At least Subaru has some connection the name 'Seven Sisters', because 'Subaru' ? is the word in Japanese that refers to that constellation. The others seems just kind of randomly selected.
>Wanna get into P1P
>Jack the ripper is putting the good music in
It's gonna be great
When Mitsuru was beating up Yosuke in her Ultimax video, this was the first thing I thought of
I learned everything about the yakuza from the yakuza games and i can tell you they do.
I wonder if now that sega owns atlus there'll be a club sega in the city you can go to in p5.
If you look at the bag hes carrying i believe its the same kind that p4mc had when he moved to inaba, a duffel bag.
So he wears his school uniform while carrying his belongings; my guess is he'll be living in a dorm
Don't lie, you'd squeeze them if you got the chance
I think that Catherine's cell phone system, particularly the text messaging aspect, would be a great fit for P5.
Catherine in general has a bunch of stuff where i think they were experimenting for p5.
>Dark Hour/TV World equivalent is a timestop, some pocket dimension that only Persona users go in
>There'll be a Katsuya-like character - a law enforcement member shunned by his superiors because he sounds crazy talking about the world. Older than glasses-kun
>Each of the characters will have to face their shadows again, a la P4
>Not a stretch, but each character's issue is based off of something burdening them/keeping them chained to something they don't want - a lover, a job, family, etc.
>Personas will be themed off of Egyptian gods
It was a great system, although I think it needed a little polishing. I'd love to see something similar.
Main character goes to a fancy academic school that treats its rich kids very strictly and is very imprisoning.
The other party members are mostly geeks, from strict families or plain people who are forced to study all the time and don't have a lot of freedom. One of the party members will be a bully who changes his opinion of you when you save them with your Persona.
Your antagonists will be some sort of authority figure like a powerful public offical or popular academic and their fans, who will be doing something like possibly causing the "dregs" of society (the unpopular, the losers, the social outcasts) to go mad judging by those news banners, and you need to help save them using supernatural means. (I'd rather the victims are other people not the party members though because P4 already did that).
The Personas would be Goetic demons to go with the imprisoned, constrained aspect (demons being stuck in hell and only allowed to be summoned for specific services against their will) and covered in chains, and the summoning item will be something surprisingly low-tech like a lock and key or something.
The game will have a finale where the protagonists battle their way up a skyscraper and defeat the main antagonist on the rooftop.
That's what my tea-reading tells me, anyway.
Personally I think the ball and chain that breaks in the PV looks more like an old-fashioned pocket watch more than anything else. It would be pretty cool to crush a watch every time you summon your purse owner.
I want blackjack, poker, slots and fishing minigames
Bring back negotiations except you still get personas from shuffle time, negotiations are for getting skill cards, raising stats like knowledge and understanding, your persona stats and getting points towards your S.links
>this literally came from tumblr
Get the fuck out.
Stop talking to yourself, Nyarly.
I'd like some improvements to how S Links are integrated in to the game. I'd like it if later cutscenes reflected if you were at rank 10 with someone or not, like references to the party's upgraded Personas and the various events of their S Links, or if you're dating just one girl it's acknowledged. It would also be great if the friendship and lover paths of the girl S Links were a bit more distinct. Have you be friends and then lovers if you choose rather then have them be totally in love with you and then you have to friendzone them.
It's only touch of death if you're shit and don't know how to block
It's a really solid fighter
the only really con is the DLC stuff, but if you buy the US version you only have to pay for margaret
all the other US DLC is optional cosmetic stuff
I wish to play P1/2. Should I emulate the originals on ps1 or the psp remakes?
So you spend time on Tumblr to both feel better about yourself and to have evidence to shitpost when you see an image that was on the site.
I'll be completely honest: that's really pathetic.
psp ports are pretty alright.
cant speak for psx youre going to need to though for eternal punishment.
I just know of this gold nugget
PSP remake of 1 for sure. You can go with either version for P2IS, but only the PS1 version is in English for P2EP.
Play P2IS's psp version
You have no choice but to play the PS1 version of P2EP unless you know moon
Wait for Jack the ripper's P1P music replacement before playing that
It's about as hard as any other game
I mean that if you don't block and mash, then you'll get destroyed
The only combos that do a lot of damage are generally fatal counters or combos that require a lot meter and a burst
resource management is important, because you can burst out of any non throw and non super move, but you only get burst roughly once every 1.5 rounds
Am I to believe Ken is lower than C
>>Still no grimdark goth tier Fuuka
>Suffering and Happiness, Nails and potatoes...
Fuuka is a cheerful kind girl.
Well technically 5 actually. I have 2 electives, 1 science, 1 lab, 1 math, and a ICS class for my major.
But even with 4 I don't think I'll be able to play the games. I've never had a job though so I don't know if it's easy or not.
reminder that you are hurting people's feelings if you argue about video games on the internet
Had some ideas for possible mechanics and tweaks for dating. Some more plausible than other since romance is just a cute extra in most games with proportional time and energy poured into their development:
When girls try to initiate a romance thing with you, you either get an opportunity to tell them that you're seeing someone else or they mention that fact themselves.
A bit of extra dialogue where she expresses surprise or blatant jealousy when you compliment other girls.
Flirt options during story events
Depending on the girl's personality (or your choices), your entire team may or may not know that the two of you are even in a relationship. You get a couple of teasing lines if they do, not much, just enough to make it feel that your relationship has genuine presence.
Hanging out with her even after you've started a relationship or MAXED her link has the two of you running into other Social Link characters during your dates. You get to see them and your gf react, and depending on what you do, you can get social link points with the third wheel du jour. (ex. Help STAR search for his pet?)
Maybe a flirty texting mechanic ala Catherine. The right choices can give either you or her stat boosts, increases personal qualities of yours (expression, understanding, courage etc.) or have her send you unique pics of what she's doing or what the two of you did during a date.
Battle bonuses with gf she's from your team. (ex. healing spells heal more, buffs last longer, follow-up attacks occur more frequently) If she isn't, Personas of her arcana get higher crit rates or automatically give you (or your team) a certain buff at the start of battle.
She can break up with you if you act in certain ways.
Some unique emotional stuff during the end game where she gives you more encouragement in the spirit bomb cut scenes.
Dating multiple girls nixes all of the above benefits.
It's not too bad. The only class with homework everyday is math. The rest have in class projects and tests. I just have to study and it's easy to remember things during class lectures. But yeah I'm never doing this again.
I just want a job for games. Jobs look hard. I still haven't finished P4 because of school.
It would be a waste not to. An online network is brimming with creative potential and can do wonders for replay value.
For example, a competitive casino would be awesome. As long as they can keep out hackers.
I'm not playing through the game 4 or 5 times just to see all the stuff.
Painfully, P3 got excuted, P4 got buckets thrown at them AND lightning bolted. still ya gotta admire Yosuke and Teddie's spirits for willingly to do it again after getting that treatment.
Can I use social links to practice for real life?
All except Naoto who gets 'pick from left/middle/right' iirc
I prefer the romance bits kept separate from the main story. Instead they should have it as events after a maxed link. Something for waifufags to enjoy without having to change the story.
First off, if you manage to get executed in P3, you're a faggot.
Second, what the hell is the execution? Does Mitsuru go all dominatrix on you? Is she secretly good at medicine and methodically removes one of your balls? Is Akihiko ballsless now?
If you can't go into your waifu's bathroom and take a giant whiff of the shit that just came out of her round, plump ass, you don't deserve her.
PQ is canon, P4A and P4U are canon
Marie shows up in PQ
Marie shows up in the P4 route of P4U, which is the canon route
Thus, Marie is canon.
Thus, ski trip lightning bolt scene is canon.
thats what he gets for wearing his tshirt at the beach like some fatass hiding his moobs
ultimax implied that execution was the canon part of that trip, Yukari and Teddie hold a conversation about it and Teddie says he knows what it is due to experiencing it first hand.
But why would you try to avoid Mitsuru?
Only a matter of time. They only put it on Vita so the system would sell a single unit. They're never, NEVER EVER going to stop milking P4. Even twenty years later they'll push out the occasional P4 spinoff. It's only a matter of time until we get a console port of Golden.
Mitsuru's bodysuit has to compress them a bit at the very least
>Been praying at my Atlus shrine since news of P5 came out for a Christmas Cake waifu
>Sent Atlus a google translated email asking for it, never got back to me
>Been sure to be a good person and act like a dick for good karma
Please don't trample my dreams, Atlus.
>Sent Atlus a google translated email asking for it
good job, faggot
>If the PS4 slows down, Sony knows who to call
Isn't that what allowed this P5 PS4 version to happen? They just looked at how they were able to sell units of their last hardware, realized what good Golden did for Vita, and they decided PS4 needs a Persona game?
This is the shit taste sheriff, you're under arrest.
Just techno Lich'd this pic from Atlus HQ's super human brain servers.
Top Secret stuff so watch out, K?
Yosuke is also kind of a dick to the other team members. He always makes fun of Kanji, Teddie, Chie, ignores Yukiko, openly masturbates to Rise
At least Junpei was friendly when he wasn't jealous
I am only a small persona fan so I haven't really followed the announcements but has Atlus said anything about how the general atmosphere of the game will be like?
I mean there was quite a HUGE jump between persona 3 & below and persona 4, with 3 being a lot darker and 4 being a lot more light hearted.
Did they say anything about this yet?
Best girl for your attention.
Fuck, I can't handle how everyone sucks Yu's dick so hard. Even if I'm playing as him.
>Wow sensei, you're good a everything!
>Senpai, I'll make it an exception, because its you!
>You look good in everything!
>I knew competing with you was pointless!
Another point for Junpei for having the balls to point out his jealousy to you right in your face
Hell if the Finnish can make rumor become reality during war times to ravage commies then why not this?
They went a bit overboard with the skin flaying monster though.
They've said that 5 will be a departure from 3 and 4 in the same way 2 to 3 was, but the they've also said that it'll still be appealing to people who liked 3/4 best.
Tone will probably be quite dark
>Sometimes you're just good without trying.
And Junpei was just never really good at anything but fighting, and you're way better at it than he is. He has every right to be jealous. And dammit, so does Yosuke. Get that dick out of your mouth, Yosuke.
Do you just hate yourself or something?
I like Yosuke because he became friends with you when you pull him out of the garbage can. Junpei just forces himself on you the first day of class, and at first I thought he wanted to go on a date
I think that may have been intentional. While I always liked Yosuke in the sense that he was entertaining, that was all there really was to him.
I actively disliked Junpei at first and kept him out of my party as soon as I gained Mitsuru. Then by the end of the game he was my favourite character.
what if the character in the persona 5 trailer wasnt the protagonist and just dies 2 seconds into the
story. pans over to yu narukami. another murder
has happened. reveal of persona 4 platinum
I think he means after he got his persona.
Junpei had no prospects in life, and then suddenly he gets superpowers after wishing for them. Then he finds out he's the Cartoon Sissy Aquaman of the Justice League, and is overshadowed by everyone else, but especially the leader.
I wonder why they didn't give the SEES guys slinks in the original game. Would've helped to give them more depth.
Especially Akihiko. He just went from TRAINING TRAINING TRAINING to TRAINING TRAINING TRAINING after his development.
The only thing that was apparently resolved was his brooding over the past. Which was only briefly mentioned and skimmed over.
Because they're your coworkers, not your friends
Personally, I think P3 did a good job in establishing that you're not all sunshine and happiness with each other. P4 went too far in the other direction and EVERYONE loves Yu.
If anything the social links would give them less depth, as it would mean any development they experience is optional and segregated from the main plot. Can you imagine if Akihiko got Caesar after you got his social linked maxed, and not after the memorial?
Giving everyone social links in P4 was a huge mistake. It means you focus on those links while ignoring quality ones with random students, and it removes any character development.
You don't need a social link to hang out with characters like Junpei. It happens over the course of the story, and feels more natural that way.
As for Akihiko, he wasn't really your friend. P3 is more realistic in that certain characters are on better or worse terms with others, and the group had a complex evolving web of relationships instead of Scooby Doo.
Thank you. I've been trying to put that into words for a while now.
Guess I need to get more Expression.
I guess. I mean, I agree that the internal conflicts within the group was good and interesting. Especially compared to 4, where everyone got along on everything.
But the girls have slinks so if you wanted to go that route you should have no slinks with the group at all.
That's just because MC is a huge manwhore and just wants to stick his dick in every girl he talks to. I liked how the other party members had their own lives too (for instance, sometimes you see Junpei hanging with Kenji). It makes the characters seem more real when their lives aren't centered around you.
I also liked the believable way the power structure was handled. Mitsuru was in charge, but due to the lack of a Fuuka and Akihiko's injuries, you get put in charge, and by the time they're able to assume command it's clear you have more experience and are fine at it, so they let you stay on as leader of operations. You still couldn't go to Tartarus if neither Mitsuru nor Akihiko were present.
In P4 you're just so alpha despite low social stats that every other character is pulled into your orbit and decides to hang on your every word.
I didn't like how formulaic 4 becomes with dungeons, facing the true self, and gaining a party member. It became a cliche before I even got to Rise.
I just hope 5 has a more interesting way of adding new party members
It's bad that you retards don't know a fucking thing about the consoles you are playing these games on.
Jesus, okay, let me destroy the delusion you fatty mcfatfuck cheeto crumb neckbeards have; the PS4 is actually doing tremendously well, it's been out for less than a year and has sold 10 million units. The Wii U has been out nearly 2 years and has barely sold 5m. Sony did in not any fucking manor need to call up Atlus for P5 to 'save' their console. Don't become one of those obnoxious fucking fanbases like Final Fantasy and think your games are saving consoles, or I will personally clean your cum corner.
Agreed. Adding to the discussion about P3, I didn't like how their development was tied to their slinks, rather than the plot.
It meant their development (and evolved personas) is ambiguously canon.
Hopefully they go back to the way it was in P3. Or maybe even something better.
Not to mention that Mitsuru still called the shots on things outside of Tartarus like signing everyone up for summer school and how every new recruit goes through Mitsuru with some pushing from Ikutsuki
During the day, Mitsuru called the shots. Dark Hour is when MC takes command. It's kinda neat how MC isn't some omnipotent god and its drilled into the player with tactics instead of full command
May biggest gripe about P4's social links is that the characters never reflect show their development in the main story. Even if you're Rank 10 with Dojima, he'll still suspect you're up to something when someone in the TV gets saved. If you become anyone's boyfriend, they never acknowledge it. No "I love you"s or "yeah, we're dating" anywhere. It felt like the social links didn't matter at all, storywise.
>arranges fun vacation trips for group
>takes in orphaned supernatural creature when no one else will
>chooses to love and forgive a girl that secretly hated him
>tries to move on while still trying to bring her killer to justice
>spearheaded investigation into unknown dimension when Yu wanted to leave it to the cops.
>works hard at his job and takes care of new employees
>forgoes vengeance after almost a year of frustrated rage so he can do the right thing
>sincere bro that immediately realizes that his envy is a bad thing
Yes. Yes he is. One of the best.
>tactics instead of full command
B-but I always go full command
Hell, eve Nanako and Dojima's social links feel like they conflict. You're going to end up getting the "Nanako runs away" scene after you max Dojima's social link and repair his relationship with Nanako.
No fuck you leatherman
>wanted to act like a hero even though he just wanted to stave off boredom
>jumps to conclusions all the time
>was the first who wanted to lynch Namatame
Yeah, and those social links just covered minor things like Yukari's relationship with her mother and Fuuka's cooking. They were an optional bonus not related to the development, which all took place in the main story.
P4 saved what little development it had (and it was very little) for the social links.
So Mitsuru's slink is canon, right?
I-I mean she would've married that rich guy if it wasn't for the MC.
You could say the same of Yosuke and the rest of P4's cast. Yukiko and Chie's friendship aside, the other scooby gang members were more or less isolated before joining. It's easy to give P4's cast shit for the relationships not being as complex compared to P3's, but most of the latter's cast actually had friends from the beginning.
I... I like being around Junpei. He makes my day.
>tfw he'll never get with Fuuka
It gave the Protagonist more of a presence since he's an active part in said social links. I mean, if you replaced MC with a MacGuffin stone, the plot would barely change. In P4, you have the Rescue missions where you get like the lion's share of that person's issues on display, the big ones, but the SL helps you get to know them more. So you get to help them out with the smaller problems they've got and because you're such pals, they help you out more in turn because you've grown closer. I didn't see any of the SEES doing something like THIS for MC. So them slapping you out of a status ailment feels earned and you appreciate them for appreciating you.
It's almost like talking with people and forming bonds is a good thing.
>I mean, if you replaced MC with a MacGuffin stone, the plot would barely change.
Hence why P3P was able to introduce a female protagonist. You couldn't do that in Golden because the dynamics of the group would completely change.
That was kind of Yosuke's thing. Despite being one of the most rational of the team, he tended to lose composure whenever they got close or thought they got close to catching the culprit. He almost had a nervous breakdown once he heard Mitsuo's reasons for supposedly murdering Saki.
I really hope P5 does a total rehaul of the system, especially with regards to social links. P1/P2 and P3/P4 can be taken as separate pairs in terms of their system so I hope P5 is different.
Need some Sho help.
On his Challenge 21, I'm having a hard time connection his j. C from j. B. This is all before 214A~A.
Any tips? Should I neutral jump into j. B before J.C, or what? I've tried to mirror what I see in the challenge's example, but it's still not connecting.
Not sure if I should be asking here or Arcsys general
