Sejun Park confirmed to have gotten gud.
pachi vid only 2nd battle
if you want to see all the battles go here:
and skip to 5:01:45
>park sends out pachi
>crowd goes fucking wild
I usually lead with meowstic + machomp whenever I see those 2 in team preview
fake out the smeargle to break its focus sash and dynamic punch kanga for the easy 1hko, it will hit first but it can't 1hko either of my pokes
it's not 100% guaranteed success though, protect or switches might fuck me up
You most likely won't get rid of either on turn one, so you can:
1. Stop fake out problems with double protect.
2. Taunt Smeargle's void (risky)
3. Put a chesto berry on a Pokemon that can counter Smeargle with double hits (if it 'a sashed) or can maybe safeguard
4. Magic bounce.
Quick question, how long until the card game stuff stops and we move onto finals/actual battlan?
I pulled an all-nighter last night watching this shit, and I wanna know if I can catch some sleep without missing anything. I'm in NZ, so it's already the seventeenth here and I have no idea what time it is in freedomland.
A lot of shit way more "viable" because a lot of other shit is
A - Outright banned, for example, Xernear, Yveltal or Zygarde
B - Impossible to use because silly limitations of what can be used or not, for example, VGC11 where it was Unovamons only and this year format of Kaloxdex only.
You can bet your ass the squirrel wouldn't have even been considered for use had this been National Dex.
Sadly, people are unable to realize this and only see the squirrel and a symbol of freedom, that somehow every pokemon is viable no matter how bad it is and that even the shittiest shitmost can beat actually good Pokemon and last but not least a "fuck you" to smogon tiers and format which, you know, are completely unrelated to VGC in practically every aspect.
Pic very related. This was made to bait, but sadly, there are people who actually think like this.
How does that invalidates my argument? Or are you saying the things I'm saying right now are not true?
Besides, I didn't see anyone shitting their pants for Sejun last year. If anything, people were shitting on him all of last year because of OH NO, HE USED A GENERATED AND RNG'ED TEAM! THE SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE! and some idiots were even asking TCPi to ban him from Pokemon championships forever.
And this year because he made it to finals with a "shitmon" but instead this time it is a cute rat everyone loves him and now he's the jesus christ and the lord of the anti-smogonfags. Gotta love the hypocrisy here.
Cool argument bro.
Notice how I never said that Pachirisu was bad here. The thing has a very small niche on the current format but performs at his niche very well, and that combined with Sejun skills is why the thing is not a dead weight. I'm mostly criticizing the people sucking up on him without having even the smallest bit of understanding of what's going on or even why Sejun decided to use the squirrel on his team this time.
lol calm down is just a game and yes the squirrel is too cute.
people is so tired of the mega kanga spam that seeing a lil pachirisu on the fucking finals is actually a pretty cool thing.
I've been using Pachi in my VGC team for months, the thing is a total beast. I'm glad it made it to worlds finals, but from tomorrow everyone will be fully aware of what Pachi is capable of, it kind of sucks, tbh. It'll lose the surprise factor
I have some battles for you to see (and in case you don't believe me)
>Ray lost like a bitch
>Arash lost like a bitch
>Babytron lost like a bitch
>Wolfey bubbled 9th
>No Mega Khan in finals
>No Rain in finals
This worlds is weird.
Anyone from Canada in here? Why does everywhere but BC get fucked for VGC? There's literally TCG everywhere but like 1 TCG tournament a year.
I'm in Toronto if that helps. Not sure of much VGC going on in this city.
what do you mean never
did something happen? last I heard about VGC in chile was at pokeday and that they would have more tournaments during the year but didn't hear anything else
I heard Ray is replacing pokemon for LoL and that's why his performance in worlds was such shit
makes sense, the differences in prizes is fucking insane
the community really needs to tell TPC to step the fuck up
Mein negros. As a chilean player myself, I'm pretty concerned about the future of the VGC format in the country. Liga PoP tournaments in Santiago are just awful, expensive and lack some serious organization.
Just started playing VGC today, would like some feedback on my team.
Safeguard+Swagger onto Scarf Mamo wins most games

There have been lots VGC tournaments through this year (Excluding the Pokemon Day), all of them organized by 'Play!'. If I recall correctly, there were Nats a couple of months ago. but the prize for the 1st place was only a medal, a trophy and some plushie, literally anything but a Worlds Invite, which sucks, there are a lot of excellent players here.
Participants even had to pay like 10$ for inscription even though they had earned a place through qualifiers.
I run that Mamoswine, but Adamant nature with Stone Edge instead of Rock Slide, and Icicle Spear instead of Ice Shard. Same item and EVs. It works really, really well for me. In doubles I always pair it with a Dragonite to start out with.
Mamoswine is a beast.
I really hope VGC 2015 allows the full Pokedex, because then I can use my creative team.
My opponent here was ranked #40 on the doubles ladder at the time.
Meowstic pretty much wins games.
I don't think I've ever had as much fun using a support poke.
I actually forgot about Garchamp.
What sets are common in VGC?
We really need better organization. This situation will never change with Vito Martinez in charge of our "official" VGC Tournaments.
Even some players of our pseudo-nats and Liga PoP tournaments didn't receive their medals inmediatly.
Meowstic is pretty shit tier dude, there are a lot of things that could made it better, this includes Sableye, Pachirisu...
Klefki doesn't do it better, it's at the same shit-tier
Also the only set Garchomp should be running is:
(Garchomp) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
- Dragon Claw
- Rock Slide
You could use Choice Band instead like Ryosuke or move some EVs to survive HP Ice from Mega Man
because the point of VGC is to lose right?
if Swagger is going to be used against me, then I am going to use it as well. and it really isn't that hard to play around in VGC, especially with safeguard.
After watching the matches today I really want to get into vgc. I've played smogon shit for awhile and was wondering if I can go a little karenfag in this setting? Smogon has no room for that.
Is it possible to get into worlds just from playing in a regional? I wouldn't mind going to worlds next year but I know your championship points are important but I don't have the ability to go to a bunch of regional's other then the 1 that happens in my state
how long untill this VGC hype dies down, im glad for new players but if everyone thats new comes in pretending to actually know the format acts like there veterans just cause they have played doubles or smogon ou, the reason vgc doesnt have that many players compared to other formats is because since its kalos dex only, unless u have a way to cheat in cart, u actually have to spend a long time building a team at least a week or so, this fact keeps the casuals away
Not that anon, but I did notice that Park was using mons that are considered "OU bullshit" alongside that Pachirisu. So I have to use some really good Pokemon alongside MUH BROS, huh?
If I was going to run a VGC Machamp, what move should I replace out of this moveset with Protect?
Knock Off / Dynamic Punch / Ice Punch / Bullet Punch
I've never played VGC before so I'd love to get into it, seems likes fun
most of the time the biggest benefit of using obscure mons is the surprise factor, but if your whole team is full of gimmicks then you're fucked after the first match, since the first is best of 3
ya im glad u did im a veteran vgc player who won at a bunch of local turnys and such, im happy to help new players as long as they arnt autists, and i wouldnt call myself good just actually experienced.
Knock Off isn't as great in VGC as it is in singles. Knocking Off a Salamence's Scarf for instance is more likely to get you killed than help. Plus most items are consumable (berries).
knock off is good its just that there arnt move tutors that can teach to pokemon that are actually good with it, i garuntee u in oras if move tutors come back it will be more common
I'm also Mexican. We got three pilot tournaments (Queretaro, DF and something else), you had to pay and the attendance was bullshit, like 30 persons or so. Most mexican players are garbage anyways.
Depends on the Pokemon
65 base power x1.5 on anything holding an item is still pretty decent.
Especially if you rely on status and knock off a lum berry or something. It's mostly based on team comp
I went to the DF and there were like 300 persons
I placed 28th, fuck you Heliolisk [/spoiler[
Yes, enough to outspeed
or tie [/spoiler[ with Garchomp
Nope, it's like trying to double Protect, probably it will fail, pls, don't try to do that.
I puked. The truth is, you can make almost anything viable if you have a good reason for it being on your team. Some people are masters of this (wolfe, who used shit like exeggutor at worlds, emboar at a regional) and Sejun (marowak and magmar at worlds 2013, pachy here) and even Ray (gothitelle and escavalier in 2011, Hariyama in 2010.) Granted these people are incredibly skilled and not your average player, but we saw other good finishes from semi-strange choices like Raichu winning Seattle this year with Tony Cheung. Don't go seeking a weird pokemon to use just to be a special snowflake, but if you see a hole in your team that can be filled by an unconventional mon, use it
It's what I want to told to him
You could tell me that before saying that Meowstic is useful.
Everyone knows that it's shit.
I wasn't surprised of seeing Machamp in Top 4 after all that DisQuake, but, when I saw Scarf, I was a little dissapointed
I think that the best players are in Monterrey, I'm friend of Ozzy, he's a cool guy.
In DF went Luvier so... it counts?
The Meoswticfag don't know how to challenge me.
Oh, I see.
Anyway. On topic; I think the solution here is keeping a consistent number of participants at big events (not that Liga PoP bullshit) so the VGC community and eventually TPCi realize that we need official VGC events.
Que se vaya a la csm el Vito ql. Quirimo torneoh de calidah
>but, when I saw Scarf, I was a little dissapointed
I wouldn't say its the 'standard' champ set but its a really popular one, it gives it a way way better match up against so many common mons (chomp/kang/czard)
Anyone have any suggestions on how to get into VGC? Like Poke suggestions or just things I should run/do to get into the feel of it.
It seems like fun, even though most things are expected to be seen commonly but I'd love to get into it.
I just watch VGC2014 battles on Showdown to get the feel of it, then make a team myself. It's a very different from OU, so don't go in thinking that just cause it's good in OU, it's good in VGC.
This so much, I live in La Paz and they somehow think it's a good idea to play in a closed place when it's 40 degrees outside, everyone smells and plays like shit.
>b-but smelling like shit gives me a tactical advantage!
as a beginning to team building pick a mega, understand the support it needs, and build the team around it
as a general rule you want a win condition, a situation that'll lead to your victory 100% of the time
for example a Mawile after a swords dance and tailwind
also keep in mind showdown still doesnt use the full proper format ur only allowed to bring 4 mons of ur 6 into battle, just keep that in mind cause that plays a big part in VGC unlike smogon lets u use all 6 mons
Hopefully they do
I can deal with charging for tournaments even though it sucks, but not having an invite for worlds, not even a non-paid one defeats the whole point
people that play VGC don't play for prizes, they play to be the very best like no one ever was.
If you click this button you only get to use four mons, you know.
or trying to play to their strenghts too, for example my first VGC team was a trickroom team with Mega Mawile + Reuniclus as its core.
I was convinced that nothing could beat me after TR kicked in
I got into the top 100 in rating battles with that team
I've played a few months with Slow Politoed, Amoonguss, Hariyama, Reuniclus, Mawile and Omastar. M-Mawile is bullshit under TR, I used the SD set myself, most faggots have the balls to stall trick room so you punish them
I'm guessing but I think it was because of 1) it's not common and surprise factor matters, 2) it fits perfectly on his team, 3) fits the current metagame
and 4) makes people cheer for him, which coupled with the harsh time limit makes his opponents choke in crucial moments.
Granted that my experience playing on Battle Spot doubles obviously can't be compared to Worlds, but I found Pachi to be somewhat useful even once the "gimmick" of it is up due to the usefulness of redirection. Its electric typing is really nice since it takes neutrally/resists Talonflame, which is generally used as an Amoongus counter. Electric typing is also really good defensively since it's only weak to Ground and EQ is only ever really seen on Garchomp this year (who has plenty of counters). In addition, Follow Me works on Grass types and Pokemon using Safety Goggles, so it has some additional advantages over Rage Powder due to that.
Overall, I can't say for sure that Pachirisu is as good as Amoongus, however it is very good against most common Amoongus counters.
I'll also say that one of my favorite double battles moments was when my opponent tried to Guard Split his Shuckle onto his Chansey, only for my Pachi to redirect it to him.
That Charizard spread won't do you much good to be honest. Garchomps in particular get an easy time to OHKO it with an easy Rock Slide despite you being max speed. Toxic stall isn't that common at all either in VGC, so I would suggest you to use Wide Guard on Aegislash instead, so it can serve as just alittle support.
Why you put Ice Shard on Mamoswine when it already has a Scarf, and Surf on Greninja when everything you have gets hit by it, I don't understand.
1) Magmar with eviolite is a good bulky defensive fire type with Follow Me and Flame Body to discourage physical attacks.
2) Marowak is amazing in trick room, which is FAR more common in doubles than in singles
check yourself before you wreck yourself
If they started charging for attending regionals/nats/worlds we'd start getting some better prizes
I kinda like what valve did with the dota2 invitational or whatever it was called - charge the spectators, not the players. It's the same thing other events like musicians and sports do, so why not do it for "esports" as well?
At the very least, just giving some pokemoncenter.com store credit would be a nice prize ;_;
What the fuck are you doing with that aegislash
Subtoxic is shit in doubles because of how fast-paced everything is
Go with this doubles set it's much better
- King's Shield
- Shadow Ball
- Flash Cannon / Sacred Sword
1) Magmar was nonexistent before Sejun used it and some players did not even know it had follow me
2) Marowak was barely a top 50 mon and in vgc that generally means it's going to be overlooked. Sejun used it because of the lightning rod support and being pretty slow.
So at least know that these Pokemon were basically called shitmons before Sejun touched them.
Also looking forward to playing Sejun today. This is basically my dream opponent to play against in the finals.
>Also looking forward to playing Sejun today. This is basically my dream opponent to play against in the finals
>ONE OF US
ONE OF US
>ONE OF US
ONE OF US
>ONE OF US
ONE OF US
>ONE OF US
How many hours before the final?
>some players did not even know it had follow me
Well, it's not that weird if people don't know about ancient events, and his Magmar was pretty much proven to be just genned.
>So at least know that these Pokemon were basically called shitmons before Sejun touched them.
And after that people kept talking shit about Sejun because hurr durr how dare you generate on a tourney where everyone and their mom generates, the same ones who now suck up to him because of Pachirisu. Hypocrites.
I do agree about Magmar but Marowak has always been Rhydon Lite. I wouldn't call him a shitmon no one knew about before Sejun.
