TotT: If your character was a gym leader, what type would it specialize in?
So, Milky-anon here, I've been fleshing out some OCs for fun.
Prof. Joy: a daughter of the Nurse Joy family who became interested in alternative medicine and methods of Pokemon healing. She went on a Pokemon journey and is now a Pokemon Professor, researching ways to make bitter herbs and roots more palatable to Pokemon. Her research lab is in the back of a cozy tea shop, which sells distilled berry, root, and herb teas. She is a cheerful and energetic Professor who chatters at her Pokemon while milling around the shop. She's friendly and welcoming to all, but very picky about new trainers and who she allows into the lab.
Wess: a short, serious, and studious boy on the way to becoming the next Champ. He's not the best or strongest trainer around, but he has the support of a great deal of people and is the only up-and-coming trainer with ambition. He takes himself very seriously, and gets flustered easily when other people don't- especially when they judge him on his small and girly appearance.
Prof. Joy started him on his journey. She loves to tease him since he gets embarrassed so easily, but gives him unparalleled support. They are destined for an /ss/ ending.
Gorge: The current Champ. He's a laid-back guy who travels around to avoid doing his duties as Champion. That's really all I've got for him besides really liking his weird Poke team.
I posted her preliminary story a couple threads back and got a lot of great negative feedback that really helped me develop her as the "anti-hero."
Cocoa is a fierce and merciless Pokemon battler who probably would be the next Champ, if it weren't for her attitude. When she started out her Pokemon journey, she dominated other trainers and gained a superiority complex. Further down the road when battles became challenging, and she began to lose, she became cynical and stopped journeying rather than toughen up. She joined "an Evil Team" for a while and worked for them as a thief in the big city.
After a mission to steal a package from the courier, Milky, the two of them began a cat-and-mouse game of chase throughout the regions. Frustrated at not being able to fulfill her mission, Cocoa also began to remember the thrill of a good challenge and fun battles.
After a particularly long, exhausting, and fulfilling battle on a mountainside, Cocoa agreed to give up on her mission and quit the Evil Team. She and Milky reconciled as battle partners.
Currently she is a guide through caves and mountain passes, and is the only customer who gets supplies from Milky for free.
She has a detached and stoic exterior but is secretly having fun on the inside. Her personality really comes out during fierce battles (it is the only time to see her laugh).
I'm thinking of giving Cocoa a sneasel
and of course Milcah, "Milky":
Both her design and team are in the works, I know this is a different design than is in the OC character sheet. Her story is the same though-
Started a Pokemon journey, realized it wasn't for her, went home in defeat, and began running grunt delivery service for a Professor. She realized that running deliveries was a way to still have a journey without the high pressure Gym challenge, and started her own courier business.
She deliveries mail and packages to trainers in remote locations, which can sometimes include Leaders or Professors who are out researching. She's had to become a strong trainer in her own right, due to battling strong wild Pokemon way out in the wilderness, and battling strong trainers who had to be "convinced" to be her customer.
She is mellow and easy-going, with a relaxed and sleepy personality. She often wanders around and naps in weird places.
She's very serious about doing her job, and more so about getting paid. That's when the "don't fuck around" scary smile comes into place.
Rolland: A confident and cheerful guy who spends his time mountain biking. He's happy to live a fun, simple life and has very little ambition to be strong.
He's Cocoa's romantic interest, and tends to be biking around where she's guiding. She's rejected him before (as usual keeping her true emotions secret); luckily Rolland doesn't give up easily.
weird outfit, the white thing sticks out a lot.
good design tho, cute.
Shit pose. Carter a best tho, id husband that. Still, adult Pokemon trainers are weird. Could you make a version of him thats more of an early-teen?
interesting take, Im sure she gets the "Youre wasting your time, hyper potions already exist." line a lot.
also, sounds a bit like Joseph (the ET OC i posted earlier)
Literally Alder. 3/10
Didnt bother reading all that, would fug/10 and thats all that matters.
top tier name, especially given that he has a set of
with a fully developed upper torso and facial hair.
he's a man. Would be nice to have more pokemon trainers that belong in high school at the latest. You know, like basically every starting Pokemon trainer ever
>TotT: If your character was a gym leader, what type would it specialize in?
Alison would like to have a gym that specializes in fucking with speed. She would educate trainers on how they can deal with opponents who are faster than them through attacks like Icy Wind, statuses like paralysis, and moves like Trick Room. And of course moves that boost a pokemon's own speed like Quiver Dance!
She has a rival/BFF who runs a Tailwind themed gym and she is pretty dedicated to reverse engineering his strategy.
her eyebrows are eyes are scary- especially the eyes, they're somewhere in uncanny valley. humans eyes aren't that bright and flat, they're orbs and shaded/obscured by your eyelids, there should be some gradation there.
10/10 on the scaly moth wings though
>Would be nice to have every OC a teen trainer
Then what's the point of an OC when you can't do it the way you like? Mine is also an adult OC because he already has more than 10 years of experience as a trainer. Is better to see a character grow than just create another Ash.
>Mine is also an adult OC because he already has more than 10 years of experience as a trainer.
Thats fine, but notice how that guy's mon isnt even evolved? Gives the impression he's fairly new. If he's just starting out at the age of 28, thats pretty fucking strange.
wow, thanks guys! I'll make a tutorial.it's a mixture of copypaste and hand-drawing, but I've found it's much easier to draw at that close pixel-by-pixel level than a full on line-drawing.
>being a writer
>less hell than drawing
only if youre a shit author who writes only porn. At least artists who devote their time to porn can get popular
okay, here we go, hope this is helpful
Been doodling all my pokemon that have showed up in RP so far.
I figure that individualizing pokemon by their personality and movesets is as important as individualizing their trainers by their personalities and looks. We can't really alter pokemon appearances too dramatically but I kinda-sorta added the cracked texture that some of the mushrooms in my front yard get when they grow fast.
It's pretty obvious what the thread is, not to mention that the subject of the thread is at the top of it. All it takes is a couple of seconds to read anon, but if even that is too much, then there's no hope for you.
if all there was to it was in the title, there would be no need to even point out the need for explanation. just remove that part from the threads OP in following threads, as its just serves to confuse.
It appears to me that there was an OC Thread that was "oldfag" or tsundere-edition or something like that, and it's been left in through copypastes cuz no one bothered to write up a new OP. We're not as dedicated as Showderp, but if I get to make the next thread, then I'll be sure to include more puns and less "gtfo newfag"
You fight a lot of adults early in the game with just a few pokemon at low levels. They aren't necessarily youngsters on early routes but they are out there, probably because most don't get their first pokemon from the same professor as you, if from a professor at all
If I may ask a general question - What are your guys' opinions on legendaries? Do you consider them completely and totally uncatchable for a trainer? Or is there a special condition where you'd be okay with an OC owning one?
I'm fine with OCs having any number of legendaries there are multiples of as long as the trainer isn't like, a child. I'd expect a character with a legendary to be very experienced and at least a grown adult if not a veteran. Have a story for the encounter. My character has a Cresselia and it was a majorly complicated event in her life including a battle that lasted two days (and no sleeping).
I'm fine with characters having witnessed any number of legendaries.
It was implied, at least in the Indigo regions, that most trainers get their first 'mon from schools. Later games seem to hint that they get them from their parents, while wealthier families can afford to give their kid pokeballs and have them catch something on their own.
Nope and there's logical reason why someone that old would have not done so yet.
Oh and that's right, to answer the Topic of the Thread... Toplina's design is very much jungle inspired, so it would be no surprise to hear from me how her specializations would either be Grass, or even Poison.
I am trying to think of more things to post here, but it is difficult when you have a shy personality.
It's been so long since I used Paint for Trainer Card making (And making trainer cards AT ALL...) It took me a while to figure out what to do about Paint and its "If this is 255 White I'm just going to consider it transparent. Even if your raw sprites use that"
Toplina actually doesn't have a full roster!! I dunno if you wanted to give her mons that would fit a Grass/Poison theme, I just went with the Pokemon she currently possesses in the story I'm (slowly) writing about her. It'll be presentable eventually. In the year 202X. UNTIL THEN YOU HAVE TOP (Wowzers!!!)
I have a blank trainer card template I use, and I shrink backgrounds down to fit! Custom Trainer Cards aren't too hard to make, especially since I've been practicing at spriting off and on for a few years.
I-I'm not good enough to make custom sprites, BUT I can decently emulate the Pokemon sprite artstyle??
OH, and with the first one you replied to? You can go to Pokecharms to make trainer cards from there! You are stuck with having to use trainer sprites that are on that site, but still! It's a really good generator and quite useful.
In my opinion, legendaries have different tiers depending on how unique they are. You have Pokemon who are on the most part extremely powerful, very hard to even meet or very important lore-wise like:
>Lugia and Ho-oh
>Tao trio (who, at least two, require a hero to control them)
>Regigigas (blame Slow Start)
>Most event Pokemon
Not impossible to capture per se but requiring a lot of requirements to even encounter one and/or who are lore-wise extremely powerful due to their feats. Then you got your very rare Pokemon and minor legendaries, hard to meet Pokemon who are proven to be more than one, which would include almost the rest of legendaries. Shaymin and Diancie included considering is proven to be of considerable amounts but in very secluded places.
I see using legendaries as a last resort measure, otherwise you're just curb stomping your way through everything. Like in the end of Black Adventures
White refuses to use Zekrom on her journeys because she k knows it'll be unfair
I imagine most trainers with legendaries only use them for the most difficult battles, which is why the only times you see NPC trainers with legendaries is in battle tower type settings.
All the more reason to use them in a trainer tournament. A trainer skilled enough to catch and train something with god-tier powers in a tournament meant to assess trainer skill should demonstrate to viewers their skill by using their legendary pokemom.
Obviously it gives them an advantage, but in the pokemon world they have earned that advantage through significant hard work, just like people using pokemon they carefully bred and raised.
I don't really know how you guys expect to keep a thread only on certain days when we're located on a slowish board.
If you mean letting it 404 after the weekend and then making a new one, that just seems annoying and pointless since it'd just be a thread with maybe 30 posts maximum on average.
If you mean stifling conversation until weekends then that seems equally as dumb.
Am I missing something because I don't really understand,
This whole group seems to be pretty loosely managed in general. Am I alone in thinking this?
I do like the concept of an OC thread, just that it kind of sucks that discussion, presumably, is mainly in the IRC, rather than the thread itself.
So it's a pain for me to get any discussion going, since I do like seeing what input people have on the Pokemon lore, and how people made their trainers. ... Just that little activity seems to happen.
Well I was hoping to get a story arc in development that leads to a bunch of the OCs battling Darkrai with anime logic in full force (i.e., darkrai isnt glass and has god-like powers, can easily take on several strong trainers simultaneously)
nice literal answer numbnuts
Im asking cuz my OC is kind of a scrublord but she wants to learn. Perhaps they could partner up - though I kind of have with Zera already (in more ways than one?)
Only if theyve been raised for meat or are plant pokemon like oddish and Paras. Pokemon are a food source just like animals in real life, but that doesnt mean she would eat a Wingull or something... on the other hand, yeah wingull might be tasty
I ship terra and zera
Look, no one even knows how Cherish Balls come into existence, much like Dream Balls
Im guessing shes a parody of mary sues or even just one herself intentionally, but as far as we know, Cherish Balls literally come from God.
What I never liked about original Galactic members was that they rarely were named after Celestial objects.
In fact I only recall Io from one manga and Pluto being changed to Charon in English version. There was also that Cipher Admin Venus or K-2 being called "Uranus" by fans.
You could name her Marduk, this is how Babylonians called Jupiter and their Jovian deity.
of course as a nickname, as this I suppose what those titles are (ie much like Red, Green, etc)
That's not about smogon, that's just called not being a retard.
Like it's literally Fireblast/Flamethrower/Ember/Fly Charizard tier. The shit you'd use when you were like 5 and didn't realize that some moves are objectively better than others and having access to different types in a moveset. Not to mention why it's a bad idea to have a special and physical move of the same type in a moveset (if you were a smogontard you can actually excuse this in the case of coverage, but that's goes a little beyond common sense).
Ive been trying to convince my cousin for so long now that having Hydro Pump and water pulse in the same set is fucking retarded.
but this is the same guy that uses Water pulse over surf because "i just dont like Surf."
Well, they had nothing to do with space, seeing as they wanted to create an alternate universe, which could be considered an alternate timeline, but Team Chronos doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
Cyrus probably went with the idea of space, because space holds infinite potential when it comes to exploration.
It just happens to be insanely ironic how "infinite potential" translates to "I want to open up a portal to an alternate universe, and probably destroy all life as we know it, because I wish for people to not have emotion anymore."
need more art of terra fugging girls.
>offering the same, tired ideas that don't work
>"at least i'm helping!!!"
As long as the Pokemon works for the trainer, anything goes! I even don't mind people using shinies, since I'd be a hypocrite if I looked down on people for shinies (Since... My OCs tend to have shinies!)
As long as the trainer and their Pokemon have cool personalities, things are cool.
Youre only a tryhard if your favorites are a team of fully evolved OU/Uber tier Megas with speshul snowflake powers like hidden abilities and perfect movesets that wouldnt make sense in a non-competitive environment. Of course, if your OC is a seasoned, competitive battler who could reasonably have access to the traits, then its okay.
The only thing that matters, is that its believable without being speshul snoflake
This. This is why OCs having access to legendaries is more or less frowned upon. While it is possible to catch a legendary in game, it's only really possible because of your main character status, not every Joe jerk off has the skills or team necessary to go out can catch a physical god, and what >>24481923 said.
in the Roleplay? Anime styled, just call attacks and whatever is an agreed upon effect. ive had shit take way more damage than should be possible, like quiver dance boosted HP Fires into Giga drains (all SE)
How would it get confusing? Confusing would be doing damage calculations and rolls on every single attack ever. And dice rolling on criticals.
Confusing would be keeping track of levels and simulating battles, giving each pokemon specific natures and EVs (and keeping track of what they fought to determine said EVs, or what out-of-battle training was given) especially considering most of us involved time skips so theres no written record of said training....
nah its way easier to just "hurr my pokemon used this move it hurt a lot"
"I survived, by an inch. I dont think I need to recall just yet I think I can tough it out!"
Sort of like PokeMon-Amie
She reminds me of Julie from TCG, hairstyle at least.
The only "OC" I even had was drawing of myself (literally) in Pokemon world, dressed in A+ rank (silver) Rocket uniform. But it was awful like all my old scribbles by ballpoint.
Yeah I know that's pretty autistic.
You don't even connect anymore.
She looks like this rich girl who dresses like that just for show. Any bio?
2cute. Would waifu.
Probably Phantom of Opera, with Chandelure and Gourgeist as partners.
At least I can pretend I did, because tonight I'm only giving chocolate to kids and playing spooky vidya.
Probably dress up like Booster Gold, and giving his Porygon-Z a paint job to look like Skeets.
>She looks like this rich girl who dresses like that just for show
You wouldn't be wrong. Her family is rich, but she prefers to live a humble life with her grass/poison type pokemon making natural medicines.
Dress up like a Kamen Rider with Ledian.
>but as the majority of us are busy due to work, classes, etc. It's rarely touched upon
this made me remember the old
why is all regionbuilding doomed to eternal slowdown or hiatus
Shame this one isn't real
>seven is gone again.
> nooo ;_;
> wow #rood
kuro pls no bully
I'm not sure she needs to be one of the Joys. It seems unnecessary, she could just be someone interested in alternative medicine, the Joy connection doesn't accomplish anything aside from shoehorn the character into the canon. But if you like it, that's fine, I guess. It's not a deal-breaker or anything.
For her team, I would have expected a preponderance for grass and poison Pokemon, to mirror her herbalist tendencies. A Cleric of some sort would make sense, too; Florges or Wigglytuff or something. Not Chansey or Audino, because those are so closely related to the Nurse Joys, and an alternative medicine Joy ought to have an alternative to the standard companion.
She should also probably have a first name. Wess didn't just call her Professor, did he?
Seems kind of like a generic anime protagonist and rather bland. Interesting team choice, though. Is he tied to a desert in any particular way? Because he's got two desert-themed 'mon.
Adler 2.0. Even has a Volcarona. There isn't enough to comment on here because he isn't all that developed.
I don't like the Team Evil backstory bit. It seems sort of forced, for the sake of making her villainous.
Her team is underwhelming. Aerodactyl as a foil for Archeops is good, and Pancham to reinforce the thief thing is fine, but that's all that stands out. Girafarig and Cacturne seem meh. From her depiction as a super strong, assholey trainer, I would have expected some more fierce and intimidating Pokemon, like Haxorus or Bisharp or something. Weavile, Gyarados, Gengar, Gliscor-- there are a lot of strong, dickish Pokemon that would seem a better fit.
The idea of a courier as a character is pretty cool. I'd imagine a fighting style based on speed, which is supported by Archeops, Luxray, and sort of Klefki. I'm a little surprised she doesn't have a Delibird assistant, though. I mean, for fuck's sake. The only bad bit, really, is the "don't fuck around scary smile" part. Makes her seem like a shitty anime character. You could just say she hounds people about payment, she doesn't need to have a trigger that reverses her personality.
Wait what the fuck is her sprite holding. What is she dripping onto Smeargle.
Underdeveloped, only seems to exist as a love interest which is the hallmark of a shit character. Could use more teammates. I don't know why, but when I look at him, I feel like he should have a Tropius. Who is this guy? Why does he have a crush on the courier girl? Is he easy going and ambitionless, or is he dedicated and tenacious? Does he even need to exist?
Konata ain't a loli I'll fuckin fight you mate get off my waifu punk ass
Yep. All the time, actually. The hard rule is "don't eat anything you've caught," because that seems like a dick move, and "don't eat anything too humanoid or crazy poisonous," but there really aren't many regular animals in the Pokemon world. There are examples in the beginning of that being the case, but they've been slowly phased out. It's the circle of life. Likewise, the threat of a Pokemon eating you is more than 0. Humans, while not the greatest source of food for a predator, are sufficient for a meal. Especially if the predator is provoked by a battle. If a trainer loses, are they just going to give the wild 'mon a few bucks and go on their way?
Maybe I like realism too much for Pokemon RP stuff, but if your trainer isn't eating Pokemon, what the hell are they and their team eating? Fruits and vegetables spoil too quickly to bring on a journey. Some Pokemon are purely carnivorous, and might not accept certain substitutes. How much kibble can one person carry to feed a team of six for a week? I prefer for it to be a natural process and kind of a touchy subject, depending on the person.
>confirmed for not knowing what a loli is
Loli has nothing to do with age and everything to do with appearance. even in mundane humans, a short, flat-chested girl with a childlike face is a loli even if she's the oldest character in the group. Emi Ibarazaki is a loli and even considered so by the creators of KS, and Lilly Satou is very much not... despite the fact that Lilly is nearly 2 years younger. Likewise, no body calls Kagami a loli, despite the fact that she's younger than Konata. And yet Tsukasa can be considered one, even though she's exactly the same fucking age as Kagami. Hell im 99% sure the show even calls Konata a loli. 199% sure her "bodytype appeals to lolicons" ... aka she's a Loli.
Your power level is WEAK.
Nigga that comes down to artstyles. In that particular style Konata's little cousin whatherface would be the loli. If we were saying Konata was a loli just because she was short and had a flat chest then literally every other character would be a loli. If a character in the show is calling her a loli it's probably an attempt to annoy her or joke around.
Short =/= loli my nigga
Bitch been my waifu for 8 or so years now dont you come in here tryna tell me what's what
I have no idea why Lolita fashion is called what it is, but Loli comes from the book Lolita about a guy having a realtionship with and impregnating a young girl. One could say the Lolita fashion type is childish in a sense, as adults typically wear more practical outfits than giant poofy dresses, and non-EGL Lolita is brightly colored in child-appealing pastels (if thats the right word)
Fucking kek. Loli isn't comparitive, its qualitative. There isnt just 1 loli per group. Literally everyone in say, madoka magica counts as loli except Mami. Most/all of YRYR's cast is loli.
underage girls with oversized knockers. Even if realistic, I think. If she looks like a child, she's a loli. If she has boobs, she's oppai loli. Oppai literally means "boobs"
Merging topics here:
Which OCs are loli/shota? Given that all pre-gen 5 player characters/rivals in the main games are, I imagine quite a few are. Mine isn't, though. My alt OC cant be a shota either... ive never seen kids on the Evil teams.
Why don't we just go loli crazy and call everything a loli so you can fap easier you lolicon degenerate
I hope they send you to gay baby jail for bein' a big gay baby and not agreeing with me.
How dare you have a differing opinion. The nerve.
I also forgot to mention... this all started because 1 autist got upset at a joke filename. Not that Loli is an insulting descriptor, but if my filenames arent generic, then theyre ironic like this one
I thought it was transparent that it wasn't a serious anger because who the fuck uses a skeleton drawing angry eyebrows on to convey genuine bootybothered emotion.
Learn to read my sarcastic tone over the internet god
Let's both agree that we failed to read any humor in the other's shitposts.
Well I was mostly opening the invitation to people to share/talk more about their OCs if they qualify because no reason not to. And I dont feel like getting a 24-hour hammer again for posting offtopic shit
I've been only making undertale stuff the last few weeks (pic related is muh latest masterpiece), so I really need some variation.
Just throw some Ideas and maybe some references at me and I may draw it for ya!
Draw Genocide-run Undyne's final battle
Pic related being sad (for any reason, any amount between "vaguely sad" to "crying torrential waterfalls of tears") or in a bikini
Or someone else who hasnt gotten awesome drawfags to do their OCs yet, there's bound to be examples in thread or the last -- oh yeah no archive.
well you asked for it.
Since there's already a finished concept I decided to experiment a little bit for practice, so I hope you'll still like how it turned out.
Would you use Bug/Dragon mega Flygon?
nice team, Amphy needs a better nickname though lol. I'd make one of these myself but there'd be only 5 spots (currently) and the EVs would be ??? / ??? / ?? / ?? / ?? / ???
>find this thread
>make a thing

>don't even know if I want to bother filling in the form now
glad you like it. Sure i'll stick around some more, pokemon stuff is fun to draw after all. I've also begun the first sketches for my own OC, what do you guys think?
Still taking requests btw
can you draw my trainer with an archeops? Maybe striking a silly dynamic pose
>gets her pokemon to help
>it's a shark
in retrospect this probably wasn't the greatest of ideas
this'll help r-right
well you could have the guy hold onto a fin and just keep it above water level as you zoom back to land
lifeguard-chan can just grab onto the dorsal fin during transit
and yeah speed boost
