Grinding my mons to level 39 for against Elesa.
Just got the Fairy Badge. A crit through a Light Screen by that Sylveon killed Marcel.
>finally get around to nuzlocking Soul Silver
>run into Tauros on Route 38
>Only have 5 Pokeballs
>Tauros is burned with 1 HP
>1 pokeball left
>instantly breaks out and it dies
Well fuck you too then Tauros.
there's your problem. but hey it's not like you asked for it. randomization does only a few things acceptably.
>random mons of similar power level
except you should expect wynaut/trapinch
>random field items
hit or miss, at least important ones remain in place
>resolves evolution woes
unless you need a specific item like say, metal coat.
>standardizes exp gain
>lowers retarded evo levels
using it for full randomization and thinking you're going to get a balanced fun experience running a nuzlocke is retarded.
it works most effectively on gen iv imo because of thinks like pokeathelon making some of these items locatable on a standardized basis.
First time using hacked/emulator game (Ultra Violet). Catching 1st poke sounds Nuzlocke-y as hell so give it a go. Catch a female Ralts.
Fuck yes, this is going to be awesome.
First rival battle.
Send out Ralts.
RIP, Sophie. I hardly knew ye.
>Doing a nuzlocke on Y
>catch a Murkrow from a horde
>it is super low level so it takes forever to catch it up to the rest of the team's level
>finally get back to the route I caught it at
>instantly find a shiny Murkrow
Trying to build a balanced team for both Clair and the Elite 4. Right now I'm considering using my fr-eevee to get a Jolteon. However it's natural defense is trash, like Alakazam/Electrode relies on OHKO to be viable and scares me. The only remaining catch I have is the Whirl Islands and honestly it's dicey because muh randomization. Glaceon is another choice but then I'm still fucked for water.
I could teach ice beam to Tentacruel, and none of Clair's mons run electric attacks, Kingdra is a real threat though. But that leaves Lance who does run electric. Plus his Gyarados having waterfall scares me because I can't jut out tank it with Tyranitar.
I can teach Lucario dragon pulse so he can cover fighting/ghost/dragon with aura sphere/dark pulse/dragon pulse and metal sound to debuff. But I won't get that opportunity until after Clair. I fear for my team /nuzgen/, there be dragons.
I thought XY would be easy to do a Nuzlocke on, but everything from Grant to Korrina is just murder---the Solrock/Lunatone girl with Grant, the double Lucario fight against Korrina which took me by surprise, Brains/Brawn duo (which you can skip but I thought I could handle it and need the EXP), Reflection Cave Wobbuffet, and Korrina's Gym---she was actually easy, but there's that Sawk and Throh trainers which gave me a lot of close calls.
And now I'm at the part where there's not a lot of routes between the Gyms, and I'm down to just six members. Luckily you get a Lucario and Lapras which'll help.
Iirc he has a terrible nature. Plus counting on mirror coat/counter seems foolish.
I'm probably going to use
If they survive Clair.
Need to replace Marcel, and wondering if I should use one of my box 'mons, or just catch something after the Pokeball factory. I have 3 areas I can catch something, with some interesting possibilities, including Pawinard.
Next up is Watson in my cuckjourney. How fucked am I? Last and only time I passed this I had a Golem.
Umbreon can sweep the gym too.
Bone rush lucario should be extremely useful.
Anyways, fuck Fantina. I know i should have tweaked my team but I like all the mons on it. I knew I shouldn't have relied on a fucking Raticate
thank god for not a lot of deaths before hand though
I saw a variant a bit of info on a variant Nuzlocke called an eliminationlocke. From what I understand you get 6-12 pokes to start with but cannot catch any others. Ever. Other than that, it uses the usual release/box dead pokemon and name everyone rules.
I'm thinking about doing this, but combining it with a mono-type run.
My planned rules are as follows:
>start with 9 selected pokemon
>no catching additional pokemon
>if it faints, release/box it
>all must have the Normal type (mixed types are okay)
I chose normal because several of my favorites are of that type... and because it's probably the easiest type to use of this sort of thing since they tend to have such wide move pools (especially for HMs).
I'll be using a copy of either Fire Red or Leaf Green, trading in pokemon breed in another game so they'll all start at level 5.
Does this sound alright, or is too easy?
I'm open to suggestions.
Good point. I can always use a random generator to decide. It'll be more challenging, especially if I roll and keep duplicates.
Also, in pretty shit at these games so playing lite mode is probably for the best.
>Route 15 first encounter
>accidently knocked out with a crit
>Lost Hotel first encounter
>holy fuck yes
>get down to red with Chatter
>hurts self in confusion
Fuck you game. Just fuck you. I wanted a Pawniard. Was going to go with Stunfisk, but ended up catching a Pumpkaboo on Route 16. Actually fills a slot better on my team than Stunfisk in terms of needing something for Water types.
Curse you demon dubs, my team wiped Clair with limited effort, Tentacruel was such a bro stalling Kingdra through 2 hyper potions without any effective moves. After whupping on Lugia they got bodied by an ace trainer with a Quagsire packing EQ, I could have taught my Tentacruel giga drain but I wanted toxic spikes + barrier..
WHY IS TENTACRUEL WEAK TO GROUND?
woot back to cuck, and beat wattson for the first time in a while
Went to do a randomized soulsilver run, this was one of the starters..
Think I'll try picking another one.
not even once.
a safe bet would be
>random 3 stage starters
>random similar strength
and the last one is dicey but has yielded good results
not an option i am aware of.
>random move sets w/ or w/o type similar movesets
I've completed 3 Crystal nuzlockes and wanna spice things up for my next run, looking for something interesting rather than overly challenging or frustrating. Any suggestions?
Also, what is cuckhold emerald? Difficulty and expanded pokedex mod?
>finally get to nuzlocke Black
>'I wonder what my team's going to be!'
>I'll finally get to check out all the Unova mons!'
>'I hope they finally fixed the BS where you only encounter the same mons over and over again at the beginning of the game...'
Whatever, I wiped shortly afterwards. Gonna do another run.
>start nuzlocking Black
>starter Snivy dies early on thanks to two crit Rock Blast hits in a row
>three Pokemon dead before the second gym
>persevere and progress further
>have absolute shit type spread by the time I've beaten Elesa
>catch a Ducklett on Driftveil Drawbridge to combat it
>start to grind it
>debut against a trainer's Timburr at the same level as it
>Featherdance it to cripple its Attack
>murdered in one hit by a crit Rock Throw
Defeated Elesa with these spooky pokémon.
Started out with Geraldine, used Swords dance then Slash. Emolga didn't go down in one hit, and critted on Geraldine, leaving her with only 5hp. One hyper potion and a slash later, Emolga was down.
Elesa went for Ampharos, but Kevin took it out in one hit. Same with Galvantula that went next.
Raichu was a tricky one, I switched for Carl, because I remembered that Raichu has surf for meme reasons. It used volt switch, so I send out Kevin against Manectric.
Manectric used attract on Kevin, so that bit wasted 4 turns.
Carl vs Raichu went the same way the 2nd time, this time volt switched into Zebstrika.
Kevin took it down in 2 bulldozes.
Raichu, again, annoying the fuck out of me. He missed a focus blast on Sage, he used cut, taking him to the red. Elesa used potion so 2 cuts later it was down.
Aside from the crit on the beginning, no scares on the spooky day. On to driftveil!
So Spot died thanks to Cheren's Staraptor. fucking crits....
Who should be on my team for Clay?
I'm locking Blaze Black.
Thinking of doing a locke run while I wait for Red++ Beta 2 to release but have no idea what I should play. I've done 3 Nuzlockes (2 successful ones (gen 4 and 6) and 1 failed one (gen 3)) but was thinking I should go back to either Gen 1 or Gen 2.
Are there any noteworthy Gen 2 romhacks out there? Or, at the very least, something with the Physical/Special split? Prism is still being worked on (eta: never) and Dark Future doesn't exactly sound very good.
Alrighty. Pelipper was a good mate during my Sacred gold attempt.
When I was waiting for replies, I evolved Geraldine into Gliscor. Too bad I don't have a Toxic orb yet.
Hey, I made it past Maxie for the first time in Kekold. Can't wait to find out just how much worse the kekening gets past this.
This fucking Clefable though. Minimize/Stored Power/Cosmic Power almost feels like cheating.
Why do I keep forgetting images this is retarded.
I'm pretty out of touch with DS emulation, but has a solution arisen for emulating HG and SS getting graphic glitches like so?
I can restart but it's start to happen even when I start it up, it's a big problem.
HG/SS keeps pulling this shit and I don't know of any fix. I just remember to savestate every now and then. When I first started emulating this shit could cause game crashes. Now it goes away if I enter a new zone or open a menu or something. Otherwise saving and restarting works.
Dammit, that sucks. I wanna do this Storm Silver romhack but I ain't got shit for playing that on an actual system, so emulation is my only choice.
I really like SS and HG, so having more pokemon and making it harder + Nuzlocke would just make life better.
Whenever I get these glitches and I enter a new zone the screen just goes black. I usually just save normally and restart when it happens, but this really blows as a solution.
it's time to face Maxie and his goons with only 3 viable mons
fuck it, if I can't do it I can't do it
Not sure if vidyas are appreciated here? But hey, seems relevant. Recording a Platinum Version Nuzlocke.
Wouldn't 90% of those things be fixed if you used similar strength random?
Catch rate would be higher.
Also stack up on as much potions and balls at all times.
Kinda wished you would do BSplat instead since nobody has recorded a run of that on youtube.
Just finished a Blue nuzlocke. I played on an actual Blue cartridge, made the whole nostalgia thing worth it. I spent the last 4 hours of the run grinding my team up to like level 52-53 before I couldn't take the boredom anymore and just decided to tackle the E4, and that surprisingly went very smoothly. I only had one death in the run, it was a Weepinbell that, while in Rock Tunnel, got self-destructed on by a Hiker's Geodude.
Final team was Blastoise, Pigeot, Exeggutor, Jolteon, and Sandslash all around levels 54-55. Pic related. Time to move onto Crystal which god knows how long that will take on cartridge. Wish me luck.
Only in their commercials.
Guessing Western PA or Ohio
Buy more Pokeballs and Potions.
Just grinding for the Annistar gym. Have little that can do much to Psychic types beyond Pumpkaboo's Shadow Sneak. Would love to evolve her.
It's very intense. It forces you to use pokemon you wouldn't have before. It really feels like a true adventure and you grow attached to your pokemon. It also adds some challenge to the games, though most nuzlockes are still pretty easy. If you NEED challenge you could do Platinum or look into some romhacks.
No harm in trying it out. Maybe you'll like it.
No, you can apply nuzlocke rules to romhacks as well. I can't think of any romhacks that integrate nuzlocke rules into the gameplay. Nuzlockes are just self imposed challenges. Gotta have that self control.
it's hard though. i often end up restarting because
>mon gets killed in some bs way
>oh fuck me that doesn't count! i get 1 mulligan
>feelin' guilty later
>i can't keep up this charade! this run has become a tapestry of lies!!
and the cycle repeats, being self aware doesn't help.
there isn't a rule against legendaries, if you recall the original ruby run when groudon asks why he won't catch him he replies
>that's against the rules
referring to the first encounter rule of the challenge. victini was the only catch on liberty island and the first by default. it's just considered game-breaking to use legendaries because they're over powered it's not a rule.
it is what it is, fixed encounters do seem kind of cheap.
honestly i think that the run he was on ended badly/prematurely and that's why he quit. it sounds dumb, but i think after the ruby/fire red runs he got cocky and was publishing comics in tandem and not after the fact. just my speculation though, he's welcome to prove me wrong. i've always appreciated closure, not having it pains me.
not officially but nuzlocke hasn't gotten a real update since forever. he made it as far as castelia iirc and the last update was fleshing out whats her tits' disapproving daddy plot.
Doing a Y Nuzlocke and I'm at Cyllage. Are my levels too low?
I'm not sure what you're saying. I already know what to expect from the next leader- I'm asking if it's doable without major loss with my levels as they are, or if I should go back and grind some more.
>Starter Pokémon is based on the player's Trainer ID number. If the last number is 1-3 the player starts with a Grass type, 4-6 is Fire type, 7-9 is Water type, 0 is the player's choice.
This is what I've always used.
My first Nuzlocke and its nice to see there is a place I can talk about my Nuzlocke progress and see others. Really don't come on /vp/, but I've recently been interested in second gen again and thought I'd go back to it. My roommate has also been into it since I've been playing so we both found a set of Nuzlocke Rules that work for us and it's been fun. We both have been playing on original hardware so we do battle with our active Nuzlocke team here and there.
Just got my second badge from Bugsy so I'm ready to move onto Goldenrod City and get that odd egg. Really hoping for a shiny since I've read it's a 50% chance, fingers crossed for Tyrogue or Pichu.
>Leaferts - Bayleef Lvl. 17
>Van Vader - Poliwag Lvl. 18
>Loki - Dunsparce Lvl. 16
>The Moth - Venonat Lvl. 17
>Neville - Rattata
>Du Fromage - Togepi
>Black Arts - Ekans
Really wish I could stream for you guys. Will update though with progress gonna go to bed in soon though.
Right now I'm listening to Digable Planets "Blowout Comb". Nice chill hip-hop classic, but earlier I was jamming to BADBADNOTGOOD & Jerry Paper both talented acts.
Question nuzgen. I am in late game of BS Platinum, just beat the ice gym but lost two mons. Now I have a choice. Either Tentacruel or Octiallry. I really want to beat this fucking game and not sure who would be better. This is the team as of right now. But I also can surf south of sandagem town to get another catch or two.
Doing a starter run on Pokemon Ruby, going through the whole game using only starter pokemon, Bulbasaur, Cyndaquil, Mudkip, Turtwig, Chimchar and Froakie, can anyone think of any problems i might face?
