Why is Pokken Tournament failing?
too lazy to link, just look for it in neogaf thread or serebii twitter
tl;dr it's only one arcade store (who was already downsizing) and Pokken is currently the third most-successful arcade machine
the turn off for me was the lack of a roster. You have 700+ mons to choose from, at least expand the roster to 25-30.
give us those fighting types who were born for this game. Hitmonchan, Gallade, Scrafty, Toxicroak, Chesnaught.
sticking with fan favorites like charizard and lucario is just the safe bet and shows that they're worried about the game succeeding, and not willing to take way too much risk in making a fighting game.
This. It looks like they want varied gameplay instead the same boring ass "fighting styles" that a thousand other games have. I mean what other games let you play as a freezing quadruped? Who wants that, let's just play as the same fucking boxer guy another damn time.
For those who care, a leak has shown Pokken (along with DDR2014 and NeonFM) is part of Dave and Buster's Winter game collection. They will probably start popping up in December.
>You have 700+ mons to choose from
I want this meme to die.
If you exclude 90%+ of Irrelevant NFE mons and a lof of shit like Vanilluxe, Omastar. Muk, Fortress, Ferrothorn, Butterfree, Dugtrio, Dewgong, AND A SHIT TON MORE Pokemon that simply won't fit with how the game play, you're extremely far from having 700 Pokemon to choose from, yet along 250 probably.
It's been making its way around various DDR forums. They're from an employee at a Texas D&B who are getting the machines in late November. The location test on those games went well enough to start letting locations order the machines.
Why would I pay for a party game in an arcade? If the game's shitty and only good for quick fun and I have the option to play something that actually does have thought into it, I'm going to go with the latter. Besides, like the other anon said, if you're going to call it "Tournament" it should have some tournament depth.
>within the next 15 years there will be a traditional Pokemon RPG game but with this battling style
Suicune doesn't fit but it's there somehow, if you can make Suicune work you can probably make a lot of shit work. And surely there are enough viable choices that you don't need TWO PIKACHUS.
>If the game's shitty and only good for quick fun and I have the option to play something that actually does have thought into it, I'm going to go with the latter.
The thing about fighting games with depth is that you're likely never going to see any of the depth unless you play it religiously. Pokken is just a game that's fun to play with friends at the arcade.
Suicune is a strange choice but it fight with water and its ribbons for close-range. Without those it's just about as bad as shits like Tauros, Stantler and most of the things I mentioned.
The only reason Suicune works is because it has those ribbon-tails to grab and do melee attacks with.
Unless they have something like that, most of the roster is going to be bipeds, because this is a fighting game, which bipeds are inherently more suited for.
Considering how much work goes into making and balancing even 10 characters, wasting that effort on 25 when the game won't even sell is definitely not something they want to waste time on just because you want to see your hipster choice in the game.
To be fair, we did get some strange choices like Weavile and Suicune, so not all the characters are fan-favorites. I'm surprised we haven't gotten Greninja yet, considering how much TPC has been dickriding it, lately.
Pokken Tournament is failing because John Cena isn't playable.
And it's also the 4th in the series, with the majority of those characters having appeared before. Also, it's had patches resulting in the better balance, vanilla Diddy and Shiek were fucking nuts.
Pokken is a new IP, with new builds for the fighters, in a unique structure of fighter. This literally happens with almost every fighting game, ever.
I don't blame you. I keep googling him and getting this
>Sm4sh has over 50 characters and most of them are well-balanced.
Because Tekken is fucking horrible.
They should just have made a Smash Bros Pokemon spinoff, where the entire roster is Pokemon and it has unique mechanics exclusive to Pokemon, like type weaknesses, 3x3 switches, moveset editing, etc, just with Smash Bros gameplay.
>Almost nobody is good so that makes them all good
you mean it makes them bad
>They should just have made a Smash Bros Pokemon spinoff
>not a traditional 2D fighting game
>and it has unique mechanics exclusive to Pokemon, like type weaknesses
fuck that shit
>moveset editing, etc, just with Smash Bros gameplay.
but Sm4sh does that
>single arcade does that
>burgers spread news world wide like everywhere is doing it
>repost it again every day to look like there's more people doing that when it's still the same news
This kind of misinfo post belongs to >>>/v/
The only time I saw worst clickbait shilling than this was when they tried to make a news that wiis would burn down your houses because some redneck ruined his and blamed the videogame without proof or logic.
As shitty as that article is, and as stupid as OP is for posting it, I'm not some Pokken apologist and anyone else who has a brain in their skull can see this game is gonna shit the bed for two reasons;
>fucking 3D Naruto shit like holy fuck what are you doing niggers
They could easily have everyone shitting themselves with hype if they just dropped a couple more popular mons that aren't already being shilled. Sales would go through the roof if they would just hit us with Sceptile, Electivire, the Hitmons, Dragonite, etc. Guys that they know people like, but aren't the same old same old.
Just dump like five more popular Pokemon in this that we don't see coming a mile away and everyone will fucking love it.
>Guys that they know people like, but aren't the same old same old.
That's the problem, though. Namco doesn't know which Pokémon are popular but aren't the same old fan favorites.
Did you read the last part (but aren't the same old fan favorites)? I'm talking about Pokes that aren't very popular but are still popular enough to warrant being included in this game, such as Sceptile.
>As shitty as that article is, and as stupid as OP is for posting it
And you're another addition to the list of fucking retards who STILL insist the game will have only 10 characters on final release. Watch the gameplay videos instead of repeating retarded bullshit ad infinitum.
It's unique in that there are two phrases, a field phase which plays like naruto, and a close range phrase which plays like traditional 2D fighter. Overall I was pretty iffy when I first heard of it myself but gameplay videos have completely sold me over. I just hope it gets more Pokemon that arent the same marketing whores everyone is bored of. Suicune and Weavile were a good start.
>No one gives a shit about Sceptile, it's a nobody
Oh. Is that why it was one of Ash Ketchum's main powerhouses in the anime? Is that why Sceptile will have a significant role in the upcoming XY&Z arc? Clearly people do give a shit about it, shitposter.
Give arceus a mega evo so the literal god of pokemon can be the strongest again. I don't care about how overpowered it would make him, I just want the most powerful being in the pokemon world to be the most powerful being in the pokemon world.
He is right thought
It was a really stupid decision and waste of priceless slots, considering how few characters it had
just shows how much devs dont care about this game, if they really wanted those special snowflake pikachus they'd did it like mortal kombat 10 version of characters
i'd rather see surfing and flying desu
>graphics make the game rather than mechanics and playstyles
Lucha-chu is an entirely new character and plays differently from from the one that was already in the game.
Deeming a game as all around shit just because a skin of your relatively unknown "bro" didn't make it in is just plain retarded.
Lucha-Chu mainly utilizes Electric attacks like Electroweb and Shock Wave, as well as some iconic Pikachu moves like Double Team, so I doubt Hawlucha would be merly a clone.
By the way, the recent balance patch really mixed things up. Gengar is now considered a top tier character, while Luchachu went from slow, weighty shitter to combo-boosting demon of doom.
