How to progress in PTCGO, tl;dr edition:
>complete all Trainer Challenges
>unlock all locked cards in the three theme decks you're given at the start
>farm Versus Mode theme ladder for Tokens and Tournament Tickets
>enter theme tournaments with tickets and earn tradeable packs and tournament chests (XY Basic Blue strongly recommended)
>DON'T OPEN THEM
>use the Trade section to trade the packs and chests for the shit you need
>if you don't know what deck you want to build yet, see http://www.pokebeach.com/forums/forum/tcg-competitive-play.156/ for a list of viable decks or ask here
Your physical cards probably aren't worth shit, but check sites like Trollandtoad, eBay and TCGplayer for the shinier ones to see if you can make a decent 5-10 bucks off them before you ask in the thread. We don't have the prices memorized for every single card.
To see what your PTCGO stuff is worth, look on the PTCGO forums in the trading section. For example, Top Cut Trading inc
Pack codes are worth about 15-30 cents while other codes are worth around a dollar or two.
Remember that if you're doing a TCGO code dump, post them as images and block off the QR codes. This prevents scumbags from scooping up the entire lot with client's QR reader or, in the case of typed codes, copypasting all of them onto the redemption page for themselves. DO NOT put text codes in a pastebin and remove the last character from them just because it's easier for you if you're dumping codes, scumbags have access to scripts that can easily find the missing letter/number.
ToTT: What card do you want to see reprinted for standard?
nightmarch is fast and easy
I'm happy with Judge already
a new MewEX would be cool though
>ToTT: What card do you want to see reprinted for standard?
>go in to TCGO leaderboards
>ToTT: What card do you want to see reprinted for standard?
C O L R E S S
I'm by no means an expert on this but:
Just take a look on top cut trading link from the OP
You can probably get the cards for 1-3 packs less of what it's listed there
Also they value the chests at 0.5 packs but you can get like 8 common cards for one
Or something like 3 or 4 uncommon
Just look at their prizes to get a rough idea on the value of the card and post a public trade that seems fair and you'll likely get it accepted
Also you could post here what cards you're looking for and maybe someone more knowledgeable will tell you how to distribute the trades fairly
we are getting a max potion reprint
rejoice M Gardevoir fags
tfw I was 2nd and stopped playing because I couldn't see myself in top2 anymore, once its up again I'm probably somewhere in the top50
The outragers are irrelevant. You'll get what, one attack for 120? Who cares. The dragon-type Reshiram is the real deal. Start with it, attach 2 energy T1, attach 2 more T2 then Swoop it for a 4 energy attacker and have it attacking on T2.
Either Pokemon Communications, Pluspower/Defender, or
But then again...
>Pluspower+Muscle Band+Fighting Stadium+Strong Energy+Machamp FFI for Fighting decks.
I think I'll stick to wanting Pokemon Communications or
Don't forget that we're getting a Keldeo-EX replacement in the form of a splashable Zoroark in BREAKthrough.
Has anyone managed (or even tried) to change the PTCGO graphics?
I looked at the game contents and at the first glance everything is hidden in unity .assets.
The only thing exposed is the startup animation video, which I deleted at once.
Nobody cares, but I just started playing pokemon and cracked my first 4 packs last night.
Shit pulls irl, but digitally I just now pulled my first EX and I got excited.
>See plasma deoxys tin at target
>It has flashfire and legendary treasures packs
THEY CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS
new guy here grinding the trainer challenges.
Can someone tell me why 100 from Articuno and two 50s from my Sealeo are doing 0 damage on this goddamn bird?
I don't fucking understand how I'm supposed to win if I can't damage it.
I've been wrecking shit undefeated on the hardest difficulty until this shit.
That was the point of the story. Someone must have bought the tin, taken out the plasma packs and put in less valuable ones then returned it. The fact that it was sealed and had the "TCG ONLINE BLAH BLAH" sticker on it is astonishing, though. I could have sworn it was legit.
So are Dark Patch, etc. legal now that they've technically been reprinted in the battle arena box? Or is it just worthless?
New guy again.
Am I retarded or what?
I'm still going through the trainer challenges and after getting my 6th prize card the game is stuck like this with no victory. I can still go fiddle with all the buttons, but I'm basically stuck.
Is there any way I can fix this without having to do the round over again?
ToTT: What card do you want to see reprinted for standard?
N, Colress, Master Ball, and Computer Search.
Like seriously, why was Computer search even an ACE SPEC? Was it just because it is literally an ultra ball for anything?
I like Hearthstone but I dont enjoy this game much (the client too slow for me? I don't know, playing feels clunky) but I love the ilustrations. Where could I browse all of them? I wish I had the money to buy packs.
>ToTT: What card do you want to see reprinted for standard?
An equivalent of Dragon Call Gabite, which allows you to find and stream dragons to your hand. Having one as a Basic might be too spammable, though, unless there was an exclusion about the same specie you could just chain them up and get them all out the next turn, so maybe it's best kept as a Stage 1 like a Dragalge or Altaria.
Or even just something else to give dragons a boost at least. Fight Song is sorta okay but lessening energy costs would be better since they deal relatively mediocre damage for the required energy needed.
Oh come on anon, you're supposed to dunk them. Here's mine. Replace fan club with something else.
I just got kinda excited and started drawing a lot of cards without paying attention to my deck, i could've probably won without using that last Sycamore
For the sake of things, add Shaunas.
Hard Charms are absolutely useless when your Pokemon have either 30, 60, or 90 HP and the most popular deck in standard right now hits for 110.
An interesting idea I was thinking about in terms of vespiquen deck is rayquaza ex. Fire off powerful attacks and mill cards to the grave.
Though that's most likely not super good. For things that I think are honest to god great for this deck is level ball because you can search everything here.
>Put out Joltik
>Opponent plays hypnotoxic laser and virbank
I'm so glad that shit is gone.
>Implying they wouldn't just bring back Full Flame (4 damage counters instead of 2 and evolving won't remove the condition) and make a new Heatran EX (a throw back to the Lv.X) that treats all Burn flip as Tails
>Those preorder prices
I'm actually pretty shocked with how much Bridgette's going for.
>I have already pulled the two cheapest full arts
Both fair points.
And this is what I've pulled so far...
>M Mewtwo-EX 159: $22.99
>M Mewtwo-EX 63: $19.99
>Houndoom-EX FA: $10.99
>Mewtwo-EX 62: $8.99
And I have 3 more packs to open.
This set really is shit. I took a random box opening vid off youtube and calculated his earnings. He ended up with SR Red Mewtwo, FA Giovanni, 3 Breaks, and Glalie/Houndoom/MMewtwo Y, which add up to around 85 dollars, just barely scraping a profit combined with bulk commons and rares, and that's day 1 with the most valuable card in the set, a secret rare.
I don't know about you, but it has never been that easy to make money since
PTCGO has become a thing and chase cards (for what it is) became easier to pull
It's shit, but at least there's a Heavy Ball.
That depends on where you buy your boxes, I can easily buy mine for 80 bucks a pop.
>Chase cards became easier to pull
Man, I fucking love this TCG. It's gotta be the kindest on your wallet out of any of them. Not that that's saying much, but at least they're not pulling Nekroz of Brionac level shit.
>It's gotta be the kindest on your wallet out of any of them
I'd partially disagree since the quality of the pulls is below average compared to the price of the boxes. Mind you luck and how much you paid for it play a part too
>Nekroz of Brionac
Isn't the pull rate for that around "1 in every 4~5 boxes"?
So is there much point in saving up tournament tickets early on? Or may as well just use them as soon as I get them?
Obviously pretty new, just spamming XY Blue in theme tournaments at the moment.
I mean, if you're smart and don't buy boxes, he's right. It's a lot cheaper. Kozmo Farmgirl, the most popular card right now, is 90 dollars a pop and it's not even good in any deck but its own. Shaymin-EX is fantastic in every deck, a staple of the highest caliber, but it's only 35~ dollars.
Shame both are useless. Still, you can sell em while they're worth something.
Thanks, one of things I should mention is that the pack felt really heavy in the hand.
So keep that in mind when buying packs...
Sorry, that's all I've got until next weekend.
I know. I've gotten similar pulls on the TCGO (the most notable being a Computer Search and a FA Landorus-EX n the same pack), but this is the first time I've seen it IRL.
I guess it just proves that anything is possible.
I'll agree with you on M Glalie-EX and I'll try to sell it ASAP, but I might hold onto Noivern BREAK. I've seen some Noivern FFI decks do well at some
How much can I sell this code card for? I can't find it on ebay. I already had one before, I got the cool fire energies and stuff.
>Discard this card at the end of the turn you attached it
Fucking why? Why deprive a series you deliberately made bad of their only saving grace by placing debilitating restrictions on it?
Because it's a partial reprint of Aqua Energy, which had the same "discard at the end of your turn" rule.
I have a around 850 coins from ptcgo after winning all the rounds from the 3 tiers of trainers challenges.
I'm debating on buying the Destruction Rush Theme deck for 500 coins from the shop so I can use its dark pokemon to knock out 40 pokemon on my opponent's side so I can win The Haunted deck from Active Challenges.
-Can I use that deck in the Trainer Challenges or can I only use the basic free decks?
-Do the Trainer Challenges count towards the Active Challenges for unlocking that deck?
-Should I be doing something better with my coins instead?
The prize isn't a deck, just a box that will sit in the corner of the screen in the next update.
For the questions:
- Yes, you'd get an untradable XY pack after 12 wins
- No, it's versus only
- Dark hammer is a better dark theme deck, but the breakthrough promo bundle may be worth saving up for instead
It will be either 200 coins for 1 pack and a promo or 600 coins for 3 packs and a promo. The offer should last two weeks, so there is time to grind if you want to get 4 of something.
Ah, it's a deckbox, gotcha.
I should've figured that's be too easy.
What else are the coins spent on?
It's seems like the options are preconstructed decks that will get rekt in versus, shitty pokeavatar clothes, a half pack of untradeable cards, or gay sleeves/boxes.
That's why you play ticket theme tourneys with theme decks in order to get tradable pack/chests. Save coins for promo card bundles or a theme deck once the basic xy decks get nerfed on the 4th.
currently debating this myself as I just beat all three tiers of them. The time I'd have to grind for the 45 packs that I can't even trade just isn't worth it to me.
I'm just not sure where I'm supposed to go from here now that all the trainers are beat since I still have the basic-ass decks with one copied basic deck that I edited a bit.
I got the whole trainer challenge to 4 stars in less than two days. It goes incredibly quickly as long as you use decks that hit their weaknesses and always play on hard. Remember that the biggest impact on score is the total damage you do.
I went ahead and unlocked the cards from the yellow, red, and green decks but my fave has been the basic blue.
I pluck all the water energies from my deck via Articuno, then wreck shit while buffing my Benched guys if bird dies.
But still, all those packs for free are cool, but isn't there something more productive I could be putting my time to that isn't packs I am not even able to trade?
>using three negatives in a sentence
I used the basic green deck for the majority of the matches, i could consistently get 9k points in a match so getting 4 stars only took 3-4 matches
>basic blue babby
At least use basic green, which requires at least a modicum of thought.
Coming from Force of Will and a bit of Hearthstone, I fucking hate getting mana screwed.
So I get Articuno on the field and take enough of it from my deck so I don't have to deal with it.
Just got this from a pack.
Anything it would come in handy for?
What's funny is that Double Crisis was ridiculously close to being meta. It feels like they tried too hard to balance the cards that they ended up overbalanced it all.
Just go through the cards and make some very minor changes. Make Claydol like Aromatisse for Magma. Have Camerupt attach to any Magma Pokemon. Have the doubles not discard when your turn ends. Have the Balls search any Team pokemon, not just basic. Have Diffuser/Pointer actually do something. Increase the damage, especially on Aggron and Walrein. I mean, Kyogre and Groudon as they are would be usable if the entire archtype around them wasn't shit, and cards like Sharpedo and Muk already function fine as support Pokemon.
This thread inspired me to start playing and I got one from the tutorial booster pack.
yes. all of them.
use regular supporters. shit will function just fine. it would just be better if you had some shaymin of course
a deck that work better without shaymin might be any wobbuffet deck? wobb/gengar-EX/subs is a potent combination.
try get one sooner over later. if you won just five four-ticket tournaments, that would be around enough packs to trade.
>less interesting Stage 1 such as (...) Malamar
You mean this Malamar? Decks build around it can be actually horribly annoying.
>ladder is literally nothing but yveltal+malamar
>i have a fire daily
After I'm done with this, I'll literally make the biggest anti-Dark deck and try to bully these kids quitting this game altogether.
Well, it's something.
You can complete the fire daily in Trainer Challenge?
So, versus..... Obviously worth it, and what I should be doing.
But is there some sort of ranking system? Does the game take into account that I've won X matches in X time and put me against similar people? Or can I just verse ANYONE who happens to queue? Whether they've won 200 or lose 2000?
Advantage just means they were "higher" on the ladder ie. had 1 more total win than you. It won't get any harder, because people will just grind the ladder regardless their decks.
I'm confused. Can your opponent flip the card? Can you play it if your opponent has more than 3 on his bench already.
This card just seems like a really good stop to shaymin was my point but its really weird and confusing.
That is what happens statistically by default. You will eventually queue into a bad match up or start winning again after a losing streak. The game doesn't force any match ups. You cannot "derank" in PTCGO.
But you have internet access, anon
Starting to get packs and chests(should I keep chests to trade?) together. Which means I'll hopefully be able to start trading soon. Seems like Shaymin EX would be a decent pick up no matter what deck I decide to build.
Worth picking Shaymin EX up first and going from there? Or pick it up last?
got to the 8 chests at 820 on the new ladder. Got a decent pull from a chest for once.
where we all at anons?
definitely worth it. You will have to get some sooner or later anyway.
Unless you have some other specific deck in mind already? For the same price as one Shaymin you could get four of most EXs which would be a good core to any deck that takes your fancy.
Might be worth building a Standard Tournament winning deck first, then using those spoils to get the Shaymins. But a Shaymin or three would be extremely splashable into many decks. Your call.
As of right now, I have ABSOLUTELY nothing in mind. Started playing the TCG 4 days ago. At the moment, I'm just using the Iron Tide deck I bought, and having some fun with it. Switching to XY Blue for Theme Tournaments.
By standard tournament winning deck, do you mean something like what the guys in Master Division at Official TCG Tournaments are playing, or something else?
What pack codes should I buy a good handful of if I want to bulk out my tiny collection with staples? I know Roaring Skies has the Shaymin EX but those packs are 30 cents a pop (compared to other packs at 15-25 cents each) and I'll end up just trading packs for the Shaymins I need anyways so unless there's plenty of other staples, I was going to go for cheaper packs. Any suggestions?
Well, what's a few of your favourite Pokémon? Fave type? Did you pull any EXs / ancient traits / ability cards yet that you can build from?
It's not like the VCG meta where the top six decks are identical.
whoop, missed the question in there. By Standard I just meant the Standard format.
There is theme format - which is just the pre-built decks. There is standard - which is every card from XY-on - so the last eight(?) or so expansions. And then there is Expanded - which is everything from BW-on. That can wait a few weeks, but get out of theme as soon as you can manage. It's a completely different game when you build from scratch. The theme decks are stupid.
Here: http://www.pokebeach.com/forums/forum/metagame-deck-discussion.250/ are the decks that are generally agreed to be top of the meta. But they are all beatable, don't even worry about those yet. Put something together that you like and take it for a spin on the Versus ladder. Tweak it till it's consistent then take it to the tournaments to win more packs so you can upgrade once you know what you want.
Look for the ones tagged 'Standard Format' for now. 'Expanded Format' can wait.
Here: http://www.pokebeach.com/forums/forum/deck-garage.154/ is a wider selection of non-meta and less boring decks. Just things people are trying out. But don't just copy one. Find a good idea and work out how to make it better.
>That FA M Glalie.
I'm jelly as all fuck right now.
I'll show off my second BREAK pre release pulls again anyway. :-)
Basic Blue is overpowered as all hell. In Theme Deck format, it completely obsoletes every single other available deck. The only things it has trouble with are Zapdos and Metagross, and only when they set up faster.
Just watched a few Breakthrough Booster Box openings on YouTube and I am a bit surprised at the inconsistent pull rates. Most people seemed to get 7 ultra rares when counting Break cards. However, this guy managed to get 9 total with 4 BREAK cards
Has anyone else opened a box? If so, what were your rates compared to these?
Have any of you niggas tried Mega Manectric/Pyroar? Turbo Volt into Pyroar for continuous Lysandre effect? Seems good enough in theory.
I've never heard of a Player's coin before... Got a reference?
We'll have to wait until the set's officially released on Wednesday. Most of the pulls we've seen are from prereleases,
single boxes/packs, and 3 pack blisters.
>Have a stack of 64 PTCGO codes
>have tried to recover account
>Could give to /vp/ or to a friend who still plays
>Open old thundurus-ex tin
>Open first pack
>See shiny border, so excited
>It's an ace spec
Surely there can't be a god this cruel.
What's her name /vp/?
When it comes to money for real cards, where do you guys draw the line to pay?
For example I'm trying to build a probably shit deck for funsies and the most expensive card is Team Aqua's Kyogre valued at $6.79 on troll and toad.
I can get one of the ones I need for $5 shipped but I think I can get one or multiple ones for a better deal.
>Joltik OHKO'd a Wailord EX
That would mean you'll have all 11 other Night March Pokemons in the discard pile (so none were Prized), a Silver Bangle on said Joltik, AND the Wailord EX has no Hard Charm
Son, I'm proud
You could get dollar shipping if you buy 10 dollars worth of cards. Just stock up on staples/trade bait EXs for the kiddies. Alternatively, go on ebay, they have better prices for expensive cards.
>most expensive card is Team Aqua's Kyogre valued at $6.79
Good thing your not making a competitive deck.
The most I paid for a card was $35 bucks.
When I got the card, it was bent out of shape, and wasn't even the right card.
Quickly got my money back from ebay.
Cover the scan code, and the last letter.
It's the only fair way to do it.
I might as well go ahead and say:
I'm not bothering building an irl competitive deck at this point and time since there's no interest of others seriously playing with me. I will be making a competitive deck where it will get play- ptcgo.
I have a convention coming up and I'll be cosplaying as a Team Aqua Grunt so I figured why not have a
funand probably shitty standard deck with heavy Team Aqua influence to carry on my person for the weekend if I find others who want to thrown down some cards.
Close, but I wasn't buying a card for a competitive deck, just saw a card I like at a low price.
It was the Plasma Storm SR Charizard, since that card is like $70 bucks and up on eBay.
Guy sent me the Legendary Treasures Charizard, wrap in tin foil.
Should have known better since he was using a stock art.
>On the fucking check out conveyor
That's hardcore anon.
Pull rates for Pokemon boxes has never been that consistent since XY due to the increased pull rates for chase rares. I'll be posting my pull rresults when my boxes arrive and
watch the guy ranted on why people are buying Breakthrough
>Box at Target contains BREAKthrough.
>Told by the employees that I have to to wait for the vendor to open the boxes AGAIN despite them breaking street date on TCG products several times.
Okay, this Target's going on my shit list now.
Anyone know why Ho-oh is the most expensive COL secret rare shiny? I thought they would all be the same price roughly, but Ho-oh wins out by an extra 5-10 USD.
At least that is usable.
The same name as yours my brother, the same name as yours.
Well, the vendor's here but she's taking her sweet-ass time restocking.
Goddamn it all...
It was probably short-printed.
>Vendor just started to put up BREAKthrough packs.
It's times like this that make me wish I had remembered to bring my scale...
Ah well... No use crying over the past, eh?
I guess I'll have to stick to the 3-pack blisters for now.
Finally getting to reply, was 4am where I was when I posted my question.
Ah.... as of right now, I've pulled Camerupt, Blastoise, Gardevoir and Lucario EX. 1 of each. So nothing really groundbreaking. XY Blue theme was pretty fun to play around with, but I bought the Iron Tide deck and I've been having fun with it as well. So Water/Steel would be what I'm enjoying at the moment.
Seems like theres a lot more to this than just: Pick some strong cards you like, pick some trainers, load some energy in and off you go. Ha
While everyon'es buying break
I'm still gonna be scrounging for xy,flashfire, furious fists, primal clash, phantom forces packs. Since I'm late to the collecting party.
What tin's have xy packs in them?
Now here's the question for you folks...
More 3-pack blisters or an ETB?
>I actually lost to this shit deck because of RNG
What? I dont know. Does it mean you can test the deck out against computer using cards you don't own but not allowed to use it against other players? Or are you allowed to use cards you dont own in decks against other palyers? Then what would be the point of collecting cards?
It's like getting a shopping list. And once you're finished, the deck is ready to go.
Are your bodies ready?
I'll be doing the individual packs, but the blisters themselves are too heavy.
And my tablet dropped my trip...
Night Striker actually seems a bit decent for a theme deck, mostly because of Zoroark and Gengar. That trainer lineup isn't bad, especially with Kirlia.
Gonna have to test this shit out a bit.
And the first Celebi blister's up next.
>all these shit pulls
Man...that was awful, not even a Glalie EX...
I'm so sorry...
I've got a few more blisters...
Well, that was a decent last pack.
New guy here.
I splurged and bought a 3 pack blister for the pin, a weird metal deck box with 2 packs, then a pack of Primal Clash and a wild card pack of Roaring Skies. All pulls were shit except this guy. Happy I pulled him, but wishing it would have been the Primal Kyogre instead. At least this one is worth a bit more!
The metal deck box is actually really cool.
>enough space to hold cards and sleeves comfortably
>top compartment for dice and shit you get from elite trainer boxes
>sturdy as fuck
