>>24587715 Why the fuck would I care about injecting? Are you one of those verlisifags who believe that just because it's created with a third-party software and not been created by yourself within the game, even though it's perfectly legal, is cheating? >>24587697 already answered it for me, though.
>>24587809 Stadium 1 and 2 let you store and move between Gen 1 and 2. 3 had Box RS. And then suddenly Gen 4's Pokemon ranch let you store pokemon, but not move them around, just pull them back out to the source.
>>24588397 >Stadium 1 and 2 let you store and move between Gen 1 and 2. >had to pay for the n64, stadium, gbc and/or GSC >free
>3 had Box RS. >no transfer capabilities only storage >had to pay six times the amount of bank more if you're buying it now >free
>And then suddenly Gen 4's Pokemon ranch let you store pokemon, but not move them around, just pull them back out to the source. >had to pay for ranch >didn't allow transferals >only works for DP outside of Japan >zero search functions >free
>>24588896 Unlikely, since the whole point of pokemon bank is that as long as the internet is a thing, it's future proofed. No more worrying about the hardware or programming much of anything, as long as it can connect to the Internet, they won't have do much to ensure Pokebank will continue to work.
>>24588896 They said that Pokemon Bank is a place for you to store your Pokemon to the point where your kids could eventually use the Pokemon you train. It was advertised that way.
Plus, it having connectivity with all future titles means they don't have to keep coming up with stupid mini games for transferring our Pokemon from generation to generation. It can essentially be used in the sense of "I caught this Pikachu in a Gen VIII game, but I can transfer it back to Gen VI as long as it doesn't know any new moves not available in Gen VI." It's here to stay.
>>24589243 I should have known better when he asked us to upgrade our "crappy internet speed" All he does is play shitty minecraft and stream his stupid content and not bond with anyone else in the house We have grounded him several times, had several talks and even took him outdoors, nothing worked
>>24589300 We took him outdoors, not a pleasant experience >Imagine 2 days wanting to take all the sleeping pills you can take to avoid the crying faggot yelling "dad this trip sucks I want my computer and my games, I don't want your shitty outdoors trip" at 5 AM Suggestions on how to not have a faggot son?
>>24589381 >>24589363 Out of all those, I never had considered blocking twitch and installing viruses Yeah except for killing him, he might be a colossal faggot but I still love him enough to try and get him off this shit before he becomes the laughing stock of the internet Advice for site blocking? >>24589409 They put that there for legal reasons (so you can't threaten to sue if they do delete your unpaid sub 'mons). In practice, plenty of people have found their 'mons aren't deleted years after they last paid/the trial ran out.
>>24587641 I was totally against it once I got back into pokemon, but I bit the bullet and I actually really enjoy it now and think it is reasonably priced as a service unlike most other DLC.
I still think that Gen VI should have had a native way to transfer pokemon from Gen V so you don't have to get jewed out of 5 bucks if you really don't want to pay. Pokebank will effectively destroy any contact with past generations when it is gone or obsolete in some way in the future. Nothing lasts forever.
>>24589272 >not using QoS to silently throttle the shit out of him so he doesn't take up all the bandwidth
>>24587641 It's useful on paper but with the 3DS having the worst Wifi signal reception of any device I've ever seen, logging in to the Bank servers only works 1 time out of 5, when they don't disconnect at random and unannounced, forcing you to start all over again. Being locked out of the Bank temporarily because of the servers or the 3DS DC'ing on you is absolute horseshit. I pay for something that works, if I don't get my money's worth I won't pay again. Simple as that. Now I use this >>24587684 and never look back.
>>24589981 Server costs are justifiable, though I question how much it costs to maintain. 5 bucks a year is actually an absurdly high cost looking at it in terms of data storage and the other services out there. Each pokemon in a box is 232 bytes (I think), and Bank stores 3000 pokemon, so assuming you fill your bank you are paying 5 bucks for 696KB a year. So let's just round up and say it is 1MB a year, so about 42 cents a month. 1TB of storage on microsoft's service is 30 a year, 2.50 a month. Though, other services like dropbox ask 10 a month for 1TB. So yes, it is actually very overpriced if you consider the other data storage options on the market. I mean sure they have to make a profit and all, but they're basically making a good profit on this. That is assuming they were running their own server farms. The only thing to really consider is that companies like Microsoft and Drop Box have the infrastructure to scale their systems efficiently where as Nintendo or whoever does Bank would not. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo rents server space themselves and pays enterprise pricing which should be a lot higher given how industry always gouges out business customers. So when all's said and done, Bank is probably higher than it should be for the customer, but not a whole lot. We'd really need to know how much Nintendo pays for data storage themselves since I question if they host their own servers for this. If they are though they're absolutely making bank.
Poke Transporter being tied to bank without an alternative was bullshit though.
>>24590304 >Poke Transporter being tied to bank without an alternative was bullshit though.
This has to be the biggest bullshit they could've came with If you want to transfer your bros from past gens you are forced to pay for a service you might not use
They should've made it so it stores the data on the SD and if they were afraid of people figuring a way to access and modify it and HAD to make it server-side they could've made it so you get the 'transport box' for free, just make it a restriction like only transporting 30 pokemon a week or something And then if you wanted to transfer without restrictions plus the shitload of extra boxes then you pay the yearly fee
>>24590747 Yeah, except for the official announcement that that's exactly what will happen. They made it very clear when they were announcing bank and giving us all the details. If you let your subscription lapse, then you will have a set amount of time (around a month) to withdraw your pokemon before they are deleted to maintain server space.
>>24587641 I subscribed right off the bat myself and used it to transfer pokemon between my physical copy of Y and digital copy of X so I could do special team runthroughs from the beginning. It was pretty fun being able to load up a mono-type team or some other kind of fun theme team at the start of the play, but that only had limited usefulness.
When Z/Delta Emerald/Whatever-the-next-game-is comes out I plan to sit down and actively complete a living dex for the first time because I've always been too lazy in the past, but I'll be keeping it on my game cartridge. When the next gen comes out, I'll simply re-sub to bank and transfer it forward, then probably dick around with more run-throughs like this gen until I get tired of it and just box the living dex on the cartridge and let it lapse again. Not much to it.
>>24593181 I resubscribed when I got a job again after roughly 7 months of not having it. Half of my living dex is still there. So no, it doesn't delete your Mons, though I imagine there's a chance where they do get deleted.
>>24593516 But several people in this thread, including myself have already said they left their mons there for several months and nothing happened to them. I know that's what they announced, but practice shows differently.
>>24593751 Read the thread, man. Officially, they're deleted a month after it expires, and you can still withdraw them (just not deposit). Some people have left theirs for much longer and they were fine. It's up to you if you want to risk it.
I fucking hate this piece of shit. I had all my old pokés sitting on my Black 2 and thought it was time to move them onto the new gen. I had guys in there from way, way back. My old Blastoise I managed to keep from gen 1 had survived the test of time in there. I also had a bunch of event shit I traded at cons, Mew, Celebi, Arceus, Darkrai. All 100% clean. So, Poke Transfer goes well, only transfering from box 1 and having to move them into the actual bank is retarded so I take a shitload of time but whatever. I move them into my game as I take them off the transfer box thing because I've heard the stories of blackouts and I don't want to risk losing my stuff because of server error shit. As I finish loading the last batch, I save, and it fucking happens. Can't detect save data and exits. I boot up the game. Save corrupt. Save fucking corrupt. This happened two days ago. I blew on the cartridge, kept trying to see if I could at least get a lifeline and get the pokes onto the bank, but nope, it's dead. Fucking dead. My old-ass bros, my shinies, my legendaries, my event shit that I probably won't find someone willing to trade again unless it's for 10 6IVs or some crap, the most valuable parts of my collection that nearly made up a complete pokédex, fucking gone because of this bullshit. Game worked completely fine, I've never really overworked it, everything I had on it and tried to transfer was clean, hackless gold, and this godawful paid bullshit fucking killed them all. All I have left on the bank is the clutter that was filling my in-game boxes and the pokés I considered more expendable. I also lost my fucking game which didn't even have a year on it and wasn't preowned.
Worst fucking purchase I have done in years. I strongly disencourage anyone from buying and using this crap. I honestly don't even feel like ever playing Pokémon in my life again after this.
>>24596190 Your problem was rushing things. If you had that many to transfer, a batch a day would have been fine. You sped things up and Pokébank is an unstable piece of shit so it fucked you up. I've heard other stories of it corrupting games so once I got my mons across I just deleted the fucking thing.
I'm sorry but there's not getting them back. No reason to drop the games entirely but whatever, your choice.
What worries me about Pokemon Bank is that Gamefreak's rhetoric indicates that they plan to incorporate it into game for a LONG time. This means we'll never again get a GSC/RSE transfer split, and the games can never make a big technological jump without a lot of allowances for past decisions. For example, I'd really like them to cut back on coverage moves to make the types more distinct again, but with Bank transfer that genie's never going back in the box.
>>24596603 But that's not true. As an application that they can update, they can patch pokebank as necessary to support anything they want.
If they want to manipulate movepools, then all they need to do is introduce pentagon 2.0, and not give those moves to the pokemon anymore. Old pokemon can still be grandfathered in for the story mode, but for tournaments and stuff you'd be restricted to the new movesets.
They've got a lot of flexibility now to do a ton of stuff.
>>24596800 You can't transfer between GSC and RSE. Several Gen 1+2 TMs etc were lost dues to this.
>>24597030 >>24597053 I'm aware they CAN do anything they want, but the attitudes surrounding Pokemon Bank indicate they won't. GF considers a Pokemon's moves, stats, and abilities as much a part of that Pokemon as its appearance. They have almost too much confidence in the current Pokemon system, and Bank represents them doubling down on that system. I'm just concerned that they'll be afraid to evolve the series further because of Bank.
>>24596603 I think that there is a possibility of seeing in game transfer again. I've been pondering why aside from the probable "money" as to why they had to use bank to do transfers. Could be due to being unable to communicate with the regular DS. You can only communicate with them in DS mode apparently, and it would be impossible to transfer, then switch back to 3DS mode without local storage of the pokemon transferred which GF probably did not want to do possibly because of exploits.
>>24587809 Transferring between gens did used to be free. There was never any external software necessary. Extra storage, sure, we can accept a premium for that (box, ranch, etc) but charging for transferring between gens is scum. When the servers go down, all my mons will be stuck pre-gen 5.
>>24597281 >when the servers go down, Which will likely be when Nintendo themselves die. Anyway only gen three to four was free. The rest required a second system which was much more costly in the long run than bank in general.
It's a good service that gives several perks to using it and allows you to start new games without losing all your bros. It's cheap as fuck, the only people who bitch about it costing FIVE FUCKING DOLLARS A YEAR are people who still need to use mommy's credit card for everything. And to the people saying they delete your pokes, it says right in the fine print they keep them for six months after your subscription expires. In reality they probably keep them indefinitely.
>>24597235 Leveling the playing field would be giving mons with shallow movepools more coverage not taking moves away from mons. Its a step back. Its great that every Fire-type gets Solarbeam so that they're not sitting ducks against Water-types. Also having coverage makes the game less of a switch fest.
>>24597482 My ds wifi is just as glitchy as his. half the time bank and pss are fine and the other half they cant connect for shit, while i can do tons of other shit through the connection on other devices
>>24597281 >but charging for transferring between gens is scum. >gen 1 to 2 required a second system and link cables >implying this is free >gen 4 to 5 required a second system >implying this is free >gen 5 to 6 required bank >all you need is a friend with it I guess that makes bank free.
>>24598746 A friend with another nintendo handheld is WAY more likely than a friend with pokebank, considering that all of Nintendo's handhelds are some of the best selling video game machines of all time and pokebank is only for the most autistic autists that still gotta catch'em all well into their 30's.
All I know is I sure as hell don't want to test that theory. I've got all my legendaries, all of my past teams all of my shinies (2 boxes worth) all the unknowns, and a complete living dex in Bank, many of these pokemon tracing as far back as Gen III (pokemon ruby) In fact i'm kinda running out of room in Bank. I probably have about 12 boxes left. Because on top of everything I mentioned I also have a ton of pokemon with 5-6 31 iv's and pokemon with rare or weird egg moves that are tedious or difficult to get
Your autistic defense of the system is admirable, I'll give you that. But just realize that people can criticize something for its problems without you going full retard on others in a mad dash to suck nintendo's cock
>>24599100 >Literally complaining about something you've never used That's just pathetic anon. Heads up there by the way, criticisms aren't just arbitrary complaints you're no better than dobson of you think like that.
Oh and the pokemon do stay for months after the subscription service ends because I just renewed mine for the first time and shit I had there on the first 30 days were still there.
A friend got his Alpha Sapphire save corrupted while using it. He had all his valuable mons in the bank itself so no biggie, but even if it wasn't the cause it's made me pretty scared of buying it because I'm not a careful with stuff as he is.
>>24587641 It's fine, but in places where the connection is less than ideal, it can flip a shit when it decides to undo everything you just did when you've been organizing your mons for quite some time.
