How to progress in PTCGO, tl;dr edition:
>complete all Trainer Challenges
>unlock all locked cards in the three theme decks you're given at the start
>farm Versus Mode theme ladder for Tokens and Tournament Tickets
>enter theme tournaments with tickets and earn tradeable packs and tournament chests (XY Basic Blue strongly recommended)
>DON'T OPEN THEM
>use the Trade section to trade the packs and chests for the shit you need
>if you don't know what deck you want to build yet, see http://www.pokebeach.com/forums/forum/tcg-competitive-play.156/ for a list of viable decks or ask here
Your physical cards probably aren't worth shit, but check sites like Trollandtoad, eBay and TCGplayer for the shinier ones to see if you can make a decent 5-10 bucks off them before you ask in the thread. We don't have the prices memorized for every single card.
To see what your PTCGO stuff is worth, look on the PTCGO forums in the trading section. For example, Top Cut Trading inc
Pack codes are worth about 15-30 cents while other codes are worth around a dollar or two.
Remember that if you're doing a TCGO code dump, post them as images and block off the QR codes. This prevents scumbags from scooping up the entire lot with client's QR reader or, in the case of typed codes, copypasting all of them onto the redemption page for themselves. DO NOT put text codes in a pastebin and remove the last character from them just because it's easier for you if you're dumping codes, scumbags have access to scripts that can easily find the missing letter/number.
ToTT: What's games are you playing during your opponents turn?
The OP for these should include a recommendation to use cheat engine in trainer challenge. It can also be used to speed up your turn in versus but it messes up the countdown/turn clocks.
Reposting the models of deckboxes I own. I think I saw an opponent's breakthrough ETB box had no special model.
I also saw that some coins have different colored backings, time to test those.
>when the opponent takes forever to do the initial coin flip
While the online game is dead, I will occupy myself with more Cube Drafts with friends.
judging from this we can probably tell that devs don't even play the game
they could just give themselves all cards to test shit with
but they don't even bother for that
they launch their client once at the end of the patch work and just fire up one or two theme matches to test everything.
then one of them went "man wouldn't it be cool if we could see our deckboxes?"
everyone agreed and they decided to add that to the game instead of actually work and put a spectate mode into the client
What's a deck that just wins all the time? I'm sick of bad matchups.
So what are you guys playing while you wait for them to disable animations?
I'm personally playing Strange Journey. Just got past the third area, pretty fun so far.
you'll be left waiting. they are not gonna even attempt to fix this. why should they? a few complaints? plenty of people will lap it up.
rtt I'm playing Narcos on my tv. It's better than I thought it would be. idk why I didn't watch before.
I re-installed Digimon masters then i remembered how it's a fucking grind-fest unless you p2w
I logged into my account and i still had 2 salamon eggs(after i broke like 5 IIRC) so i'm just gonna try to hatch these and if i fail i'll delete this fucking game again
Can you report someone in this game? Two people were using the glitch to get the old basic blue.
Now I can flip checkers instead of oreos. The coin I saw before was a red yveltal one with a red back.
>playing expanded tournament
>playing archies blastoise
>about to win game with zero cards left in deck
>lysandre up his mewtwo-ex and retreat to my powered up mewtwo-ex
>DEFEAT, You ran out of time
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME
its not my fault the fucking animations to get two eggs out of my discard pile take 20 seconds each holy fuck this is cancer
I tried playing colosseum but it just can't keep me interested for more than 20 minutes
I just don't know what to play anymore, i need something to quench my monster collecting thirst
New thread also needs the playing field we deserve, rather than the one we got.
They probably are new. I wonder if the theme deck art is easy to find online. Also, I should have used nightfall as the comparison.
They actually aren't new, they're the physical box and that's really cool. It explains why resilient life and the froakie deck don't have boxes but it doesn't explain the eevee/pikachu boxes.
looks like something is going to change with the new patch.
Eien no Aselia - Kono Daichi no Hate de
What's the fucking point of asking another player to sandbag?
You picked a shitty deck on purpose. Don't expect people to just hand you wins because you are a special snowflake. Besides what do you really gain from a match where the opponent isn't trying anyway? You may as well of asked them to surrender.
How the fuck do you fit a deck in one of these?
Ok, I think it is safe to say I got the better end of the deal here.
Man the new Gallade is fun to use. I might make this my go to fighting deck since Medicham and Machamp take decades to run now.
>Maxie in standard
Korrina makes getting Gallade much easier than Maxie since I can just get the Gallade and a rare candy immediately. Turn 1 Maxie is total luck in Standard without eggs and Keldeo.
Is this the single most useless attack in the history of Pokemon?
Gyarados-EX – Water – HP180
[C] Wet Weather: Flip a coin until you get tails. For each heads, search for your deck for a [W] Energy card and attach it to this Pokemon. Shuffle your deck afterwards.
[W][W][C][C] Splash Bang: 130 damage. Does 10 damage to each of your Benched Pokemon.
When a Pokemon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.
Weakness: Lightning (x2)
M Gyarados EX – Water – HP240
Mega Evolution – Evolves from Gyarados-EX
When 1 of your Pokemon becomes a Mega Evolution, your turn ends.
[C][C][C][C] Blast Geyser: 120+ damage. You may discard the top 2 cards of your deck. If you do, this attack does 20 more damage times number of [W] Energy attached to this Pokemon.
When a Pokemon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.
Weakness: Lightning (x2)
Another mega with direct damage, so you guys will complain.
Some anon posted this two days ago and I've been playing it since. it's fucking hilarious. it can OHKO everything in the game by poisoning, then false swipe down to 1, then the poison kills them.
4/4 Doublade (false swipes)
4 Trick Coin
4 Steel Shelter
8ish steel energy
level balls, bridgets, skyla, more draw support.
It doesn't work often. I probably lose three for every win. But when it gets going it's loltastic. I added Aegislash EX to deal with certain decks but it's not that much of an improvement.
Two or 3, the commons/uncommons are cheap. Ignore the anon saying it's unplayable, he means that it takes forever. Practice against CPUs before playing with real people and good luck.
enjoy timing out half your matches if you go night march. and opponents conceding the other half. If that works for you then go for it, but the last thing we need is more people playing that godawful deck.
Said the anon who doesn't play night march. Just because the random shitter you faced took 3 hours to finish their turn doesn't mean everyone does, the speed at which you do your shit is actually roughly the same.
About 35 for each collection box 90 for the booster box, and 13 for the 3 pack promo.
We plan on weighing them and selling back the shitty ones to target and walmart
The booster tournament is only Theme until Monday. Maybe a six-ticket one on at the weekend but I forget what week it is.
Metameme might be a good deck to aim for? I have 3 spare metagross and their prevos. Plus 2 Miltanks if you need. I have no candies or Deoxys though. Happy to send the lot for one pack of whatever.
After that just add shittons of Tiernos & Skates and Letters or anything that gets you cards.
It's not a very consistent deck for tournaments, but it'll get you up the ladder where you can start looking for the decks you really want to build.
Please stop. All you're doing is filling the thread up with shit no one really cares about.
>doesn't know about Mankey-Rattata control
All the pulls so far and 18 left over that won't be opened
The upc on the pack is the same as the blister packaging, you can "Return" them saying it was a gift and get a in-store gifcard. Which will be used for more pokemon cards in the future.
>been collecting cards for years
>never pull anything good
>tfw the last blister packs me FA mega mewtwo x and breaknaught
Neat. I don't play much, but I'm still a sucker for collecting.
>My account's XY Basic Blue deck is fixed.
Oh well, back to farming with Dark Hammer.
My first mistake was only being 1750 before the update. At least it's over.
I don't think there's a standardised "Lucario-ex deck".
Nor a good one, but that's a different matter.
I haven't played it to make any real recommendations, but some cards to look into (for standard) are probably something like Korrina, Muscle Band, Fighting Stadium, Strong Energy, Hawlucha, Landorus, Scorched Earth, and probably some others I'm forgetting.
Might make a more constructive post in a while, but I'm currently busy.
>trying to do the trainer challenges with Aurora Blast since it gives a Roaring Skies pack at the same time at 12 wins
>Literally impossible to beat the steel trainer
Nice. I have literally a higher rate of winning Standard tournaments than beating this AI.
The deck still has strong search options.
That was always why it was strong, it's trainer support. I can still win most games with it, because, getting your gyrados, energies, articunos and corsolas out is super fucking easy. Losing lapras is a minor inconvenience.
I know I'm going to regret this, but I don't even have the normal version of this card.
>been collecting cards for years
>never pull anything good
How can someone have this much bad luck?
>started collecting this year
>have about 10 pages of FA cards, 4 pages of SR, and about a thick binder full of EX
>yesterday I just pull a SR Blue Mewtwo from a free booster pack I got from GameStop
Sometimes it's luck, but I like to make my own luck with a scale. If I'm going to be wasting my money on cards, I want to make some of my money back.
Even if he removed a major part of luck through scaling packs, he could technically still open nothing but useless holo cards instead since scaling only guarantees you a holo and nothing more.
>games take so much longer now just 2 days were enough to noticeably increase the average from months upon months
Wondering if anyone could give me some tips on how to improve my deck.
in general you have shit pokemon so there is hardly anything you can do, but the structure of your deck is fucked as well
get your deck down to 12-15 pokemon
articuno sucks, the 4th mega blastoise sucks, gyarados sucks, qwilfish sucks, kyurem ex sucks, the glalie line is too inconsistent, and greninja ex is pretty bad
you don't have to remove them all, but take out 5-8 pokemon
get your trainers up to 30-35, use consistent supporters like sycamore
all of your important pokemon require a stupid number of energy, so instead of running 20 energy, which is shit by the way, but 8 energy or so and run something like fisherman or super energy retrieval
I'm just now playing my first VS games since the patch.
JESUS CHRIST EVERYTHING SO FUCKING SLOW.
I literally get body shakes from watching the coin flip or the starting hands draw. I have to alt tab away from the game until I hear the sound alerting it's my turn to act. I guess that's it for me with this game.
Is it just me or is the 5-8th place prize better than the 3-4th one?
Yeah, I finally decided to just quit, since it doesn't look like there's going to be a fix for these forced animations any time soon and I just don't have the time to waste on these long-ass matches.
I did a little more comparison on the prizes. 6 ticket tourneys are only better when you take 1st or last place. I think it might be time to dump my 400 tickets into 1650 coins + 66 chests.
I wish pokemon attacks had been designed with more thought in mind. As the game is right now, half the pokemon have the attack you should be spamming and the shit attack you fall onto when you can't find your fucking energy. The other half don't even have a choice. Abilities are the only other place where you have to put some thought, but most of those just give you a small buff in exchange for nothing.
Pic related is kind off an example of what I mean, even if not the best. Submission reduces the power of karate chop, so you might avoid it if the pokemon is fresh, but once you take some damage you start to weight the advantage of the extra damage given by submission against getting KO'd early.
I guess I'm just mad that most pokemon cards have an attack list like this
>some energy - deal damage
>more energy - deal even more damage
>even more energy - deal even more bigger damage
With little reason to put thought into which one you're choosing.
>mfw vileplume and giratina lock
Is there any better feel?
Besides Shiftry of course
This is what I'm using right now, although it's just a work in progress. It has serious problems if your opponent gets you to discard any energy, and you're occasionally put in a really bad spot if you're stuck with Oddish or Unown as your only basic at the start.
The 2 fucking eggs broke and along with them my dreams, i still got an Impmon egg but i ain't trying that shit again
Fuck this game so much and fuck these faggots that wont rollback the PTCGO UI now i'll have to go out and get a job and a girlfriend or something
>stupid deck box disappears and the bench grows to the edge of the playmat
Imagine putting that much thought into something but then being too retarded to allow us to disable animations.
I wouldn't go for Maxie in a deck that actually tries to use Gallade as the main attacker in any format since it's hard to pull it off twice in one game. I do use it in Vespiquen and I agree that there isn't a whole lot of luck involved in pulling it off.
While I agree with this article in principle, a lot of the complexity from the ex series to DPPt was due to unwieldy mechanics and cards relying on dumb gimmicks. Fun, interesting cards that were also good were a rarity.
I don't see why it would be difficult to balance the game's complexity around card rarity, similar to how Magic works. Commons and uncommons are very simple, rares can run from simple to complex, and more rare cards are frequently fairly complex.
Basically I'd like a return to the card design of the ex and DPPt eras mixed together with more modern ideas of functionality, and a complete overhaul of how modern EXes, Megas, and Break evolutions work.
>vileplume and giratina lock
Is it that good?
Is vileplume better to have in your deck then toad?
Tell her, you could start doing drugs if that's better.
But really, unless your spent most of your time in your room jacking off, and look pale like a ghost, she shouldn't have a problem with you.
I gotta see a deck list for this, now I want to try it.
Not the guy who suggests the deck since it is hilariously meme-tastic, but
>Above anyone's pay grade
It is probably one of the cheapest EXs around, getting a playset shouldn't bankrupt you real card or otherwise
Anon. That was me. Made it from scratch. Glad to see it maybe catching on. Might post some variants as I come up with them as Im sure youve noticed that it currently auto loses to a lot of stuff.
Guys, have any of you ever opened up a irl booster and had defective cards wtih black shit on them?
I openend 2 legendary boosters and on the holo rare's in the pack there was black shit on it, unsure if it's ink on the card or it's damaged somehow
either way bullshit, and anyway to get it off? maybe nail polish remover?
Not yet, but the main issue with it is the "three damage counter" bit. Running two Stage 2 lines is a death warrant for any deck in the current format.
But I suppose you could run it with Thorn Tempest Forretress, but then you'd have to run FoGP over Dimension Valley...
Honestly, one stage 2 line is a death knell for a competitive deck. I saw some people pairing Gengar with Latios EX ROS but then you need an easy way to retreat.
The only two decks I see coming out of BREAKthrough right now, are M-Mewtwo with something like Bronzong, and Glalie with Judge and maybe Toad. Everything else is probably going to have to wait to be competitively viable.
I found another colored coin. One of these 3 has a white back.
>A few threads ago some anon pulled a Jolteon that looked like what you described
As badly as $7 bucks for it.
>ugh fucking animations
>tfw playing metal and hitting for weakness
HOLY SHIT SO FUCKING COOL
I was testing it out with Gengar-Ex, using Mystery Energy and Float Stones to be able to switch back and forth. Some games it just took too long to boost Gengar out that my opponent could would set up by turn 3 and I would be fucked.
Bunnelby. Easily my favourite card from primal clash. Also, Blaziken-EX has an attack that attaches any energy from the discard to itself but fire sucks at the moment.
You have to shuffle the cards back into the deck m8.
What the actual fuck? My opponent had 4 prize cards left. He had Blastoise EX and Kyogre EX out. He KO'd my Golurk and took all four prize cards? What the fuck was that? He had no tools or hadn't activated any trainers. What the actual shit just happened?
I think Dragons Exalted/Legendary Treasures Garchomp wasn't so bad in this aspect
>Do 60 damage and discard a special energy attached to the opponent for [F]
>Do 100 damage but discard two from your deck for [F][W]
The first attack has some utility, the second does the damage but at risk of milling your own deck
I wasn't expecting it to be blank on the back.
