ITT: Puzzle games. Preferably lesser-known ones, but feel free to discuss any of your favorites.

Land Maker was on the Taito F3 arcade hardware, and was then ported to the Playstation. You shoot colored blocks up the screen to build structures, and then break them to attack your opponent. Building/breaking larger structures does more damage, and also makes power up blocks appear on your side. It's a unique game that's very satisfying to play.

My nigger.

The sound in this game is out of fucking control. Like, tripping on LSD levels of crazy. Playing this game sleep deprived at 4am is some amazing shit. All that echo, reverb, the sound track (holy shit the options screen music), it's all perfect.

Also, the gameplay is crazy addictive once you understand how it all works.

Land Maker is great, I love all the character sprites and the buildings are very cute.

My personal favorites are Mr. Driller G and One Piece Mansion.

Mr. Driller G got a neat PS port with puzzle story modes added to the original arcade modes, the gameplay is very simple, you have to reach a certain depth by drilling blocks of different colours, blocks of the same colours fuse together and create big chunks, if a chunk of 4+ blocks of the same colour falls down or simply connects to another one while you're...

Of the games listed in the OP all but Xenon have been translated into English. As for the second question, Kanno was one of the most influential writers in the Japanese VN/adventure game industry Some of his games have left such a big mark that they've even been getting remakes as of late, such as Eve Burst Error R and the soon to be released YU-NO remake for PS4/Vita.

Is there a way to play this with the real time clock without having the actual cartridge?
I'm using Higan Accuracy and it resets the clock whenever the game is loaded so I have to use save states to keep my progress.
I don't want to let the emulator run the entire time just so my virtual pet hungers.

Is there a patch that allows the calendar to be set past 2014?

The type of people who have problems with post 80's JRPGs are the type of people who look up walkthroughs before playing.

Likely he's backed himself into a corner by knowing exactly where to go without ever exploring, thus ending up too weak. And without using multiple saves. Rookie mistake, that.

I'm trying to remember the name of a game for NES.

It was a side scroller, a little bit like castlevania. You had some weapon that you found parts of through the game. It had a world progress map thing like golden axe/wizards and warriors 2. It ended in some sort of bone castle thing.

Anyone remember what it was called?

Just finished playing this bad boy for the first time. Totally lived up to the hype.

It wasn't without its flaws though. The skill and weapon system was pretty unbalanced with some skills (hacking, maintenance) being almost mandatory while others like research being almost useless. The hacking part itself was also pretty bad. It was just a random chance of clicking random nodes and hope you get it right.

Still, the atmosphere and soundtrack to the game were great. I really enjoyed it.

I'm surprised you managed to finish it given how awful the game got past the recreation deck.
>>
>>3455054
research is pretty good. 25% damage bonus to half of the enemies is pretty good.

ss2 was the first game that comes to my mind that even attempts anything remotely related, so unbalanced skill trees is to be expected. actually it was kind of the norm back then. actually, I think it's a mark of good game design. the sorts of choices you make should be, at the outset, somewhat comprehensible in terms of what is good lng term. bad game design is when the underwater basket weaving tree is better than the guns...

For those that watch Cinemassacre videos, does anyone else think James is getting lazy? He doesn't seem to be putting out many videos lately. He only did three AVGN episodes this entire year.
Meanwhile, Mike Matei does 3 videos a week plus live streams.. James used to make 15-20 AVGN videos a year and do Monster Madness at the same time. Isn't making videos his job?

There isn't much difference except 8bit are usually more simplistic. I guess that's a good thing if you prefer a more straightforward experience.

Not really.

If I had to make something up, they're more "blocky." Like they lack slopes like Sonic or Yoshi's Island have in spades. More emphasis on platforming than running.

Don't see the point. In that screencap it looks like a pixel world is exploding out of the center of the screen, like something you'd see in an old "WOW EXTREEEEME GRAPHICS, DUDE!" commercial.

Cool in theory, but like most gimmick things, you'll boot it up, play a few games for maybe 10 minutes or do before going "Okay, I'm good." and never think of it ever again.

I can't imagine ever beating a game like that.
>>
3DNES will have to be tailored differently for every single game, of which there are hundreds.

So, considering the wiki stickies are down, and I trust /vr/ for it synicism, how good is Raspberry Pi for emulation on TV? How much of a hassle is setup? What consoles can I expect to be supported?

Can I get some feedback from elitists who hate everything, please?

Use a PC if you're looking at Pi because it's versatile
Use a Wii if you're looking at Pi because it's cheap
If you're the 1:20 who are somewhere between the two,use Android since you must not care about 240p anyway

PC is cheap because everybody already has one.
You just have to move it around or buy extra cables.
Can Android devices run Higan Balanced nowadays?

Honestly, it's barely any better than just setting up a Wii with Homebrew. Might be worth it if you're specifically wanting to play on an HDTV, but then you might as well just connect your PC to it instead.

The initial MS-DOS systems were 16 bit. The original IBM PC still had 8 bit aspects.

MS-DOS gaming doesn't really exist. DOS is a simple operation system in which games can be run but there is no user interface or anything specific to DOS like you had for instance in 16 bit Windows games.

MS-DOS was also used on several distinct platforms.

For action games, generally, the Mark V was the superior system.

However, the Super Nintendo still has a bunch of great exclusives.

This will quickly descend into a shitposting extravaganza.

It should NEVER be about the hardware. You should only ever care about the games.

And both consoles had amazing libraries.

This, on paper Genesis has CPU while SNES has better everything else, but sometimes the Genesis can have really colorful, bright graphics (Ristar), and SNES can have action-packed BLAST PROCESSING stuff (Wild Guns).

These console wars and people techno-babbling about CPU clock speed are just parroting 30 year old memes created by marketing teams.

I enjoyed the games in their day. It was impressive unlike Catacombs 3D or Wolfenstein 3D where the ground was flat, there can be angled and heights to the floors. I got the second one because I really, really enjoyed 7, and the second Underworld continued on from the first half of 7 bridging into part 2. Plus the second one was more colorful with different zones. I found the Guardian a compelling villain (never did play 9, so I have no clue if he was ever defeated).
