How does /vr/ feel about the first Blood Omen? I got pretty far when it came out but never finished because I lost my copy while moving. Is it worth going back to? I mostly want closure but haven't bothered checking to see if it has aged well.
>>2802608 Mechanically it's a decent Zelda imitator, much darker of course. I don't think the combat and dungeons are that interesting (puzzles are mostly just hitting switches and avoiding spikes) but it's got so much style it's still cool.
The voice acting for the first LoK is still GOAT in my book. I loved how there were voiceovers for every item, new enemy, major locations, and sometimes just as you're wandering around in the world.
Because some associate them with active scammers, or with non-scammers who unintentionally enable scammers (you put on the repro label, sell it to someone, they turn around and sell it as legit). Putting REPRO LABEL on the label helps with that.
I personally don't really see the point. I think aged labels have charm, and there's the fact that they are legit labels that have been on the cart since day one and not just repros. I don't care if others use them, though, so long as they aren't trying to trick people.
As the above anon said, I think it's more a matter of people trying to pass them off as legitmate/original labels than anything. Alternatively, some people being more concerned with how a game looks than playing the game itself.
I've thought about getting a reprop label of one or two games, but I'd do a shell swap with a sports game or something so as to keep the original label too.
recommend me a game like DQ2. I want a game with some non linearity in it but still with some clues. I also don't mind grinding a little bit. Also I want a game where if you wander the wrong way you get your ass handed to you by overpowered monsters. I heard every DQ from 3 on are linear and I have played 1 through 3 already. Would it be a good idea to try a wizardy or ultima game?
Ultima sound like a good next step for you. I guess the games are more about exploring than fighting though so keep that in mind. Not sure Ultima is the series I am thinking of but if it is then leveling up actually end up hurting you in the long run as there is very little point in it.
Live-A-Live is probably my favorite SNES JRPG (not counting action JRPGs like Terranigma), despite its myriad of flaws. It's so wonderfully unique and charming that I can look past its many shortcomings.
The kung fu chapter. I really liked the old guy beating the shit out of everyone, and the music when he uses the "move" and does his little philosophy is god tier. Was a bit pissed off with the resolution of it, though.
Also, we all know the last kid was the canon inheritor of the kung fu legacy, no matter how much we want the red haired girl to be the one.
I never had a playstation as a kid. Just one of my friends had one, and the only game we ever played was megaman legends. I bought one a few years ago thinking I'd start to get into the system but it never really happened. Where should I start? All you PSfags, what was your first game?
The first PSX game I ever played was Twisted Metal. Other early games I played were Beyond the Beyond (not really recommended, but if you're wondering what the RPG scene was like in the really early days of the console), Tekken, and FF7.
Retro games that you think had some interesting ideas that were never really seen again in future generations.
Pic is Sentient which was actually a pretty meh-tier RPG/Adventure game that came out in 1997. I've been looking at it again recently and its 'thing' was the player was able to communicate with pretty much everyone in the game (in a traditional sort of 'ask about X/Y' sort of way), but with a little facial expression in the bottom corner which let you go about your business in a jovial, sad, angry (etc) mood, which would have an effect... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Also Three Lions which came out around the time of World Cup 98. Different from FIFA and ISS Pro in that it did away with shit commentators completely and had the manager of your team shouting stuff on the sidelines. There were different languages for different teams, too (even though they only had around half a dozen phrases).
It was a kickass football game too. Since then FIFA has been the mold for pretty much every game in the genre and commentary is now mandatory, no matter how shit.
There is always the question which version is the best, understandably. I've seen plenty discussion about Final Fantasy games and Street Fighter. Ofcourse who could forget SNES vs Genesis or Atari vs Amiga. I just thought we could contain these questions in a general thread, instead of making a new one each time. Personally, I'm wondering which version of the big three cinematic platformers are the best: Prince of Persia, Flashback and Another World. Many ports, many version, but which is the best.
>>2801632 >For example, in games like Pac-Man, having a ghost that moves randomly could fuck up a bit, if not entirely, a pre-planned strategy.
In my opinion, a well designed game is one where you can't go in with a pre-planned strategy and play it exactly the same as you did last time. At that point it's not really a game, it's a lengthy exercise in memorization.
The best games incorporate randomness in some way in order to make them more interesting on multiple playthroughs.
>>2801556 Japan loves to write random things in English or stick random English words or sentences into songs. It's kind of the equivalent of English using French words or phrases in an attempt to sound fancy.
