Looking for a good controller to play emulated arcade, NES, SNES, etc. games on the PC with. I used to have one of those Street Fighter "FightPad" controllers they made for Xbox 360, but the d-pad kind of sucked.

What does /vr/ use to play their games on PC? Pic related?

For NES, SNES and Genesis/Saturn I use cheap chinese repro usb controllers, they are surprisingly okay for the 4$ price.

Not super interested in shoddily-made chinese shit, but $4 is a bretty gud price.

Should I play the SNES or Megadrive version of Beavis & Butthead? Heard it's superior on Sega's system.

I've only played the SNES one myself but if you have a friend, I find it to be one of the better 2 player games where you're actually helping each other and not getting in the way like Zombies ate my Neighbors, for instance.

I should give the Genesis version a shot sometime.
>>
>>3408892
I've played both, and maybe it's just because I played more of the Sega version, but the sega version is better. Keep in mind the point of the game is to find Gwar tickets and the Mega Drive did Gwar style music better.

3 MB,
So over about a year, just from thrift stores, I've picked up:
>Sega genesis, 1 controller w/ Sonic 2: $20 total
>N64 with 1 controller & THPS1: $20
>SNES with 1 controller and F-Zero (later picked up Super Mario World, Link To the Past, Goof Troop) about $40 total
>FF1 / Castlevania 1 & 2, Mario Golf for $2 total

Why aren't you thrifting, /vr/? also which of these sells for the most?
116 replies and 19 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
sounds like you're doing very well, I'm envious.

I'm unfortunate, my only thrift shop is a goodwill, and they now go through their donations and sort out known 'easy money' items like video games to be sold online at inflated prices.
>>
>>3406634
Yeah Goodwill has absolutely caught on to their retro and hipster shoppers and driven prices up like crazy unfortunately. Pretty much all the consoles I got months ago before it got bad. Last one I got was the Genesis where I had to rig it a little (removed the 5$ tag from the controller and plugged it into console so it was only $10 total, had to buy AV cable from ebay)

But it's still possible, I got an N64 controller at the goodwill the other day for only 5 bucks
>>
>>3406598
I don't think there's any triftshops that has retro vidya on them in Argentina....well unless you want to buy pirated copies or something.
I wonder how my fellow Argentinian anons manage to collect for consoles, i've been wanting to collect for Ps1 and SNES for a while but i just know i will have to get games from America most of the time.

Seeing these threads makes me envious as fuck

How do I git gud at the wipeout series? I can't stop bumping to the walls in higher speeds. I try to decelerate and push the side brake before entering hard curves and still fail.

Also, Wipeout general

Great game OP. Here's some tips off the top of my head
Inertia plays a huge part in the handling of each vehicle. Get used to how much it swings to the side during a turn.
Turning before you even reach the turn is crucial and requires a lot of practice to memorize for each speed and track when to start.
Get used to losing a lot before each track really clicks for you.
Use a slower vehicle with higher handling if you're bumping in to walls too often.
Don't get discouraged. Wipeout is a great series of games and well worth your time.

Start with XL/2097. Use Qirex. L2/R2 are air brakes, use them to take corners easier. Play through until you unlock Piranha. Then move to 3 and unlock Icarus. When you've done all that, tackle the original.

Also use this.

All of them. First I got Red which will probably forever be my favourite. Had to participate in a play in elementary school so that my mom would buy me Blue later. I got Yellow once it came out iirc.

I had Red. Got it around the time of the US launch when I was in the 5th grade.

Not sure if I caught them all or not. If I remember correctly, I did fuck around with GameShark codes at some point so there's a chance that I did so illegitimately.

For anyone who was following scanbro's threads, I had posted about starting a tumblr to show off all the guide books I own. There were delays with getting my camera, but I finally received it in the mail and began taking photos.

My intention is not to show off every page of the book, but rather anything that's especially unique or interesting. I started with a Rockman Dash 2 book simply because I recently bought it.

SNES vs. PSX

Which was the better system for RPGs?

It's a tough call for me

SNES had Super Mario RPG, Earthbound, Dragon Quest Remakes, FF6, Terranigma, Fire Emblem 4 etc

PSX had FF7, Suikoden II, Xenogears, Tales of Eternia, FF Tactics, Tactics Ogre etc

I think I'd personally go with SNES although the PSX has a lot of amazing RPGs as well.
>>
before some austistic imbecile complain about psx, let's get started.

the SNES had some amazing RPGs, like final fantasy II and III (IV and VI), chrono trigger, earthbound... and many others.
But it was ignored by the japs that didn't bother to translate any dragon quest or many other amazing games.

the playstation marked the birth of the RPGs in the US. Now there was a market, so they explored it.
Every final fantasy was released for the PS, except for 3. Even chrono trigger with stupid loading times and videos! The lunar ports! I mean, every collector...

The fact that Cataclysm wasn't included in the remaster due to missing source code is a travesty. The story was at least as good as the original in a different way.
>>
This game is really good for RTS begginers because there is no terrain or buildings just units.

The graphics have aged better than any other 1999 game.
>>
A common misconception about the singleplayer campaign of Homeworld is that the size of the enemy fleets in each mission scales to the size of your own fleet at the end of the last level.

Actually it is affected by how many units you lost in the last mission. If have a tiny fleet and you don't lose any units then the enemy fleet will be full size.

If you didn't use a single unit and then you ordered your research ship to self destruct then the enemy fleet will be smaller.

Overall fleet scaling was minor in the first game.
Cataclysm had the difficulty...

The only good thing about the NES Mini is that we might get a SNES Mini.

Broodwar is BACK baby! Koreans have gone back to playing BW. Big tournaments, some of the best players in the world. With Nick "Tasteless" Plott giving English commentary.

Come watch classic Starcraft Brood War.

Blizzard forced KESPA's hand to remove BW because they wanted to promote II. But now they've been slowly re-introducing BW for about a year now. It's just a much better game.

sc2 was such an abject failure that even blizzard gave up, kek. At least BW HD will have a small following

>licenses that aren't being used but you wished you had access to

As a game dev, this really sucks. Bomberman, Heretic, and some other lost IPs just sitting in the dust.

Couldnt you form a team build the game to completion then just drop it on a torrent and release the link here? The only games that get shut down are the ones with publicity and websites showing progress. If no one knows about it until its too late, whats going to happen?

;_;>

I want to make money from it and give me credibility to make more games with other licenses. It's a good resume.

Most of us have owned magazines, eh? Which were your favorites?

A few Blockbuster stories for you

The games I've rented repeatedly were ACME Animation Studios on SNES and Army Men on N64.

One time my friend convinced me that the Barbie game on NES had a nude mode, so I convinced my mom to let me rent it. It was awful and did not have pixelated tits. My mom thought I was fucked in the head for the longest time.

I remember seeing Flintstones Surprise at Dinosaur Peak for sale NIB for like $5...
>>
>>3401908

Also, not related to Blockbuster, but my roomate once had Nintendo Stadium Events with 2 pads. Traded it into FuncoLand (bought out by GameStop) for $40. Balls.
