The other day on /v/ a guy told me that Death was way more difficult in Dracula's Curse than in CV1, unless you use Sylpha. I did it with Trevor and thought it was way easier than in the first game. At the same time though, I haven't played CV1 since 2008 and I'm much better at games now than I was then. Plus, I had holy water for the Dracula's Curse fight but used a cross for the original fight.
Is there any merit to the statement that Death is tougher in Dracula's Curse than he is in CV1, or is it the other way around? I'd like to... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>2776739 He said that because he knows how to stunlock Death with holy water. Once you get that method down, the insanely difficult becomes piss easy. Holy water x II or x III borders on glitchy if you didn't have to take special care to get it and keep it.
>>2776739 Other way around. In Dracula's Curse, you have more options, like Grant's agility, or Alucard's attack utterly raping the second form. Not to mention III doesn't have the infamous hallway leading to him, so it's easier to start the fight with full life.
>>2776702 Later NES games look consistently great; tile variety/detail and palettes optimized to the motherfucking max; great creativity and ingenuity to push limitations (faux parallax, huge background-based "sprites"); great stuff
Kirby's Adventure, Battletoads, Return of the Joker and Little Samsom are the best looking ones imo
I've been wanting to make a kind of arcade cabinet, but like to do more than just a single MAME cabinet, have some other emulators on, maybe be able to play on its own screen, or hook up to another TV and use controllers to play a game if something like that would be possible. Also need to support four players for games like Gauntlet, but still be able to shove enough buttons on the thing to play most games.
Could probably build a machine just to be an emulator cabinet, have every system emulator on a computer... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Your first homebrew cab should be one with a rotating tri-sync CRT, good sound, six-button digital controllers (and some USB ports for 3-4-6 player games on demand) and a full collection of all the classic console games and appropriate arcade games (i.e. most pre-2000 ones). Might as well configure some nice heavy light guns too and maybe a trac-ball.
Your second homemade cab IMHO should be a vs cab with two monitors and linked systems. Controls should actually be easily changeable and fit at the very least your choice of large analog twinsticks (probably the original... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>2776281 Do any games need more than one trackball? Also what about a turn-dial for those Atari games that used them?
How well does an emulator cabinet actually recreate the feel of an arcade game?
I think being able to hook it up to a tv and give out controllers would be nice, be able to play an old mario party game from the couch or something.
I was wanting to have a real nice cabinet to sit in the corner of the lounge that could play a lot of shit and serve as a nice entertainment system so I wouldn't... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>2776315 If you have a strong computer with an ATI card outputting arcade-accurate resolutions/sync rates to an arcade-accurate display the effect is very good, especially in a cabinet. Playing console games is also pretty satisfying on a cabinet, while playing arcade games sitting on the couch is somewhat less so. Just build a media center PC for the couch gaming, especially if you're only planning to use an HDTV there. Invest in some adapters to use the original controllers and you'll probably be pretty happy with... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Was Sega ALWAYS one to lend its games out to other consoles?
I've seen a lot of Yu Suzuki's games like Afterburner, Outrun, Hang-On, Space Harrier and so on, a lot of what's defined as "classic Sega", was also available on the Turbografx and PCs. There's also the matter of Sonic Pocket Adventure on the Neo Geo Pocket as late as the Dreamcast era. Was Sega just more open to sharing its IP even before they went full third party?
This was the first Final Fantasy game I played as a child. My mother bought it for me randomly. Upon playing it for a few minutes; I was heavily immersed. You seem to meet each character at the perfect times to grow accustomed to them. Zidane; a thief. Steiner; a blindly loyal soldier. Vivi; a child, and so on. I feel no bond to any other characters as I do this set. The rate in which they grow in front of your very eyes is astounding for an early game.
The music in this game sits apart from the other games to me. The simple acoustic theme... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
my least favorite of the first 10 games. no interesting characters or plot lines. i can barely remember anything about the story actually. i thought the graphics and design were a step down from VIII. the gameplay itself was fine and i liked the music, especially the overworld theme.
>>2776035 I play it for entertainment? >>2776036 I also like the overworld theme. And understandable opinion man, not all games click with everyone. Im at the point where I remember everything about the game. I love the story
Well, I got burned. Bought New Horizons for $20 from half.ebay.com with a description stating, "Cart in very, very good condition. Art too!" Couldn't beat that price and I've been looking for the game for some time so I grabbed it.
As you can see, the label is a far cry from very, very good. There's some tearing on the top which is unsalvageable of course, but there's also some kind of sticker residue you can see on the front. What's the best method the carefully remove this? It's definitely from some old sticker that was ripped... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I got some sticky crap off of the back of an NES cart where the caution label was by spraying some Goo Gone on a paper towel and rubbing the sticky stuff off. The regular caution label is still on there.
