>>3392235 Well, Japan seems to be the only country where the thing actually did well, so it seems like it was pretty fucking effective. Not to mention the meme status it not has in the west, it's very memorable.
Anyone else have this terrible compulsion to buy games brand new factory sealed just to unwrap and play them? I feel like buying used is cheap and disgusting. Getting a second-hand product in less than mint condition is extremely unappealing to me. But this is costing a fortune, and I definitely won't be able to buy brand new games and systems for SNES, NES, N64, GameBoy Color, etc.
op will never know the feeling of digging through boxes and piles of junk in the attic for hours only to find that loose nes cart with your dead fathers last name printed in sharpie on the back slightly faded but still legible and covet it like the holy grail simply because you recall playing it with your family 20+ years ago and sliding it into your console and having it still work. fuck you sir, loose carts are great.
>>3391830 i do open NIB shit, but i don't bother buying it. now, if i had the money, i'd buy ALL the NIB shit and open it live on twitch and watch all the resellers and nintendoage faggots piss themself with rage
and then i'd sell it all cheap to internet bros because fuck the market
If you enjoy unforgiving rogulikes with RPG elements, then you're probably going to enjoy Fatal Labyrinth (Mega Drive / Genesis).
It's backstory is pretty cliche (ancient evil who awakened, etc) but i sincerely like the simplicity of the story.
Each floor inside the castle is dark at first, and there are corridors, but as you walk these corridors they will be lit up, and there are rooms, once you step into a tile the room will be fully illuminated, inside the rooms is where stuff happens because it is where the monsters and items are. There are weapons,... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
More time money and effort probably went into it since it was intended as one of the killer apps for the companies flagship product. While the 8 bit version was put out as a game to get some extra quids form Brazillians and Europoors who had Master System IIs.
Not that I've ever played the 8-bit version, for all I know it could be better.

God Policenauts sucks! It's like a really bad Visual Novel. And I don't know, seriously, VN are like the easiest thing in the world to design. So when you design a bad one, that is remarkable.
Like the entire story of Policenaughts is not only a pixel hunt, but you basically have to try everything, and then try everything multiple times. So if you don't know this, like if you want to know about some photograph, you ask about the photograph, and she tells you something, and then you have to ask the same topic again. So that photograph entry can occur 3 or... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>3389262 >It's not like an oldschool adventure game. Because in an adventure game you don't have to look at and inspect everything on the screen multiple times. This was actually pretty standard for Japanese Adventure games of its time, really.
Ye I agree it is pretty bad. I tried playing it right after Snatcher and my god was it a let down.
Made it to the screen where you meet Meryl and two other dudes and just quit over how monotonous and boring the whole thing was and realised the direction the game was going. A shame coz the opening scene imo was pretty damn good.
>>3389049 I played Return to Zork.... Does that count? Even though I didn't finish it... but got really damn far! Only to find out that I needed a weed growing on a sign at the start so that people would like my jokes....
Has anyone here successfully ran sonic CD on windows 7?
I tried the XP patch plus compatibility mode with no results, it says "error: sonic cd is already in use!"
Any clues? Also please don't send me to some master collection or steam remake bullshit i came to you for a reason. Worst case scenario, i already have it running on my PSP. But it's not exactly the same as the PC version, from which i have vague memories of save file menus and stuff. That's probably all there is to it besides cinematics, but i wanna run the original game on my computer.
>>3387278 Batman is pretty good, it's basically Megaman lite. Robocop (not the GBC version) also good and has fantastic menu music. Metal Gear Solid :GB is probably the best GBC game available. Shantae is right up there as well but rare as fuck.
No, you just have to use your imagination. I guess that could be a problem today though. But back in the 80's, people actually still read books a lot and knew what "metaphor" means. I beat this game without walkthrough btw, which is more than I can say about Hexen (because there it really is a wild goose chase to find a lever or something you happened to miss).
>>3382892 What about equipping a certain color crystal and crouching at a nondescript wall is at all intuitive? What would make you think "I should try this"? I don't know if a towns person gives you some vague allusion to a hint about it, but if not then all the imagination in the world wouldn't point to this solution.
>>3382895 Mountains are made or rock. It's pretty obvious, and it's the only solution left after you can't find a litteral, prominent rock. Deducion by eliminition and all that. It's just basic logic and intuition. I don't remember anything about the crystal, because I haven't played this in over 30 years, but it must not have been that difficult if I could figure it out. Probably a hint was given somewhere. And yeah, some of the townfolk give bogus info, but that's one of the cool things about this game. You get to figure out yourself what's true and what's not. Reminded me a lot of playing tabletop D&D, where not everyone was out to help you. In fact, I bought this game because the cover reminded me of D&D. It's heavily inspired by the cover from AD&D module I6 Ravenloft, btw).
Pic is rumor table from Basic D&D module B5 Horror on the Hill. Pretty typical stuff...
I don't feel bad for them because they have access to emulators to try great games from the past for free. I kinda envy them, actually.
Stuff like the NES mini will bring older games back for normies, a lot of people are gonna be getting that thing this holidays and a lot of kids will be introduced to NES games for the first time. Most of them will probably think they suck because it's not touch and it doesn't have modern, 3D graphics, but hey.
Stop worrying about the newer generations, OP. For them, video games isn't even anything special at... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

Born in 88, Idk man I had emulators to play the games I missed out on when I was 3-11 and knew nothing about the rpg or things of that nature. The current gen kids will just see these consoles as outdated. >For them, video games isn't even anything special at all, they were born with them, they take them for... Comment too long.
