J-rpgs are UNPLAYABLE now. As a kid, you could be so easily amused, but boring as hell to an adult. It's all just a few menus, stat building. And there's no complexity to the stats or anything so it takes no thought.
>>2765835 I let a classmate borrow Red Alert and never got it back. Another classmate lent me Goldeneye in order for me to unlock a bunch of cheats, and it probably took me 2 months to return it, still lacking things like invincibility and silver pp7.
No, my friends were actually trustworthy. My family though...
My sister once tried to help a friend of her's steal my copy of SimCity on PC along with the required red sheet(copyright protection). Thankfully my dad played the game as well, and noticed the missing sheet quick enough to catch her. Fucking cunt.
Can we have an Atari Jaguar thread? I've never owned one for real, and it's been years since I've emulated, but from what I've seen of it on YouTube some of its games are actually pretty impressive for 1993 tech. Now, I've heard it has an overall shitty library, but it can't be THAT bad if it has decent versions of Tempest 2000, Wolf3D, and Rayman.
Also, how far along has Jag emulation come in the last few years? Last emu I used was Project Tempest, and it didn't even work with half the games I tried with it.
It might sound a bit casual but Mario is probably my favorite series, if we limit it to the /vr/ stuff. That's including spinoffs like Mario Kart, Party and the RPGs. I love the platforers as well of course, but if we count each Mario spinoff as its own series seperate from Super Mario Bros. then each one equals a lot less than the whole, I think. If we count each Mario series (SMB, Kart, etc.) separately, then Metal Slug would be my overall favorite videogame IP.

>>2765281 Forgot to mention: The US version is a bit on the generic dude vs evil side, but it's very well drawn and the eagle doesn't look weird.
pic related: Wouldn't claim that any version is clearly superior, but I like the sharp art of the American version and that it's proud enough to show in game screenshots on the cover. Japanese version looks kinda off.
Loved Time Crisis, 2 was the best, 3 was cool for letting you switch weapons. Recently played the 4th one for the first time in the god forsaken tiny arcade in my small ass hometown, sadly the second player's gun was broken, so I didn't wind up playing for very long. I loved light-gun games like this, House of the Dead, and Silent Scope, but they always seemed to be broken in some way or another. Crisis Zone was really cool too, especially with the ballistic shield.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say Time Crisis has always some of the best little attract movies in any given arcade. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EW2E-u_YFE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4wJ31CuJes
I think one reason Half-Life has had such a long life is that Valve released the level design tools used to make the game. The community was a constant source of awesome maps, mods, and challenge. Same thing for other games like StarCraft. I don't understand how companies haven't understood this (Mario Maker and Mega Man editors are pathetic attempts at this).
I'm starting a PS1 collection. I only have those games in the pic for now. I'll try to get the more popular ones like Resident Evil and Silent Hill eventually. There are also the Working Design games that I'd like to get.
Are there any hidden gems that I should look out for?
Oh you mean hard mode? Yeah that exists and it's alright. That and a JP retranslation are the only romhacks that exist for the game.
I'd love to see a nice real map editor and the ability for people to create new castles. Sadly may never happen. SotN is only a few years older than Super Metroid, but SM has had so many new map romhacks for ages.
