Terribly simplistic, even moreso than most VCS games, and not very arousing.
Most good pornographic games are on the PC88 and PC98 and in Japanese.

This. If you want a decent non-VN retro porn game learn to emulate PC-98 or I guess play Rance. I dunno if Americans have ever made a good porn game. They all feel like even the devs jerked off after 35-45 minutes of their work day and half-assed the rest.

Good thing you only need one or two buttons besides the d-pad to beat MK2 with some characters.

We all know and love the arcade games of Sega, Namco, Taito, etc. Both their big hits and more obscure titles. But what about games from companies you don't hear about often?

Van Van Car is a simple but fun maze game from a company called Sanritsu. You drive around a maze popping balloons and avoiding enemy cars, which you can jump over or shoot if you get the "E" balloon. Picking up the striped balloon when it appears will automatically clear the stage, and award a bonus.

Bouncer by Entertainment Sciences.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ySvPV3UjuE

>In the end, despite having perhaps the most powerful hardware and arguably the best graphics in the industry plus a game that drew rave reviews, Bouncer was never released. So what happened? In a February, 1985 Replay article Ron Clark claimed that the game failed because the graphics were too good. So good that many mistakenly believed the game was a laserdisc game at a time when laserdisc games were getting an increasingly bad reputation for reliability (the...

I remember using the internet browser in the wee hours of the morning. I went on chat rooms, looked up cheat codes, and I remember looking up .wav files of farts online.
But one memory that stuck out for me was I stumbled across an H-site. I don't remember what it was called, it was similar to The Citadel of Lost Love or something. The disclaimer at the entry page was real unique. If I could recall the page went along the lines of a mysterious stranger in a trenchcoat greeting you. Apart from the cutscenes, it's a really ugly-looking game. Also, the levels are flat and boring. There's a level in one of the Redneck Rampage games that takes place in an Old West town. That one level is more fun than all of Outlaws.

without being ripped or downsampled?

You can also express this amount as a percentage.

The Dreamcast uses special GD-ROMs instead of CD-ROMs for its games. GD holds more than CD (but less than DVD). Games that take up the whole GD need to have their cutscenes, music, or sound effects cut or degraded to fit CD-Rs.

How bad is the downsampling? Will cutscenes look Sega-CD quality and music sound SNES quality?

Shenmue is the one that people still talk the most.
But around early 2000s until the mid-2000s it was a problem for a bunch of games, some wouldn't work right or would have graphical problems, but things changed and the isos got better even just using 700mbs cds. Shenmue needs 900mb cds.

So I started playing the original rouge on a mac plus emulator.

It's fun so far, but holy fuck are the controls weird.

I skimmed over the readme file, but I forgot what the key combos for quit session and close game were. I basically just mashed buttons until it quit, since I can't force quit the emulator without banaging the disk images.

It was like the Vim of video games.

Still though it was fun.

My only prior experience with rougelikes was the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon...

Would any company have the balls to rerelease vintage hardware? As in, a properly manufactured NES that could play carts, and maybe some limited offer repro carts of first party title?

The problem with that is one, I think they'd have no repatent a lot of the hardware used for the NES, and two, getting a manufacturer to mass produce a bunch of vintage circuit boards and connectors that don't even exist anymore would probably be pretty costly. I think anyway, could be wrong

What are games similar to similar to SNES Starfox? Like flat-polygonal rail shooters? Or just rail shooters? inb4: Space Harrier, Afterburner, Galaxy Force

There's not a whole lot in this genre, sadly.

Also "rail-shooter" could also refer to light gun games like Virtua Cop, which I consider vastly different.

I think the best ones are Sin and Punishment and Panzer Dragoon II Zwei, other than SF64.

However, SF64 is the only one to feature all-range mode, which isn't really on-rails. But then, S&P and PD also feature some kind of cabal-style parts.

Also, Pokemon Snap

Last thread someone complained about expert level spells and expert wisdom. Nobody fucking understood what his initial complaint was.

>somehow get expert air magic
>hero still hasn't gotten 2nd tier wisdom

He was complaining about shit like that where he couldn't make the most of his expert air magic because that still wasn't offered yet and it was RNG.
>>
>>3360478
And 2nd tier wisdom was just an example, don't know what he said specifically.
>>
>>3360478
It seemed more like he was just asking because he didn't get it but I'm not sure what the complaint is. That's just the way the game is. Wisdom is an important skill necessary to cast advanced spells, that's why all the magic heroes other than Necromancers start with it. Expert Air Magic just represents your proficiency in that sphere. Even if you get shafted and never pick up Wisdom being able to mass cast low level spells is extremely useful so it's not like it was wasted.

The Atari 2600 set the precedent of console games having different modes. 2nd gen consoles made things a bit "easier" by allowing you to select your game mode via key pad rather than flipping a switch on the actual console. This and the whole advent of the personal computer I guess (i.e. trying to replicate a keyboard).

I'm not familiar with any Coleco games that actually used all of the buttons (personally I just select the game mode I want, unlug the controller, and promptly plug in a genesis...

Retro is new stuff designed to look old.

Vintage is actual old stuff.

So technically it would be remasters of vintage games that are retro.

But obviously the "retro gaming" phrase has become a massive meme that everyone says so you look pretty autistic arguing the point nowadays even if you're right.

The major thing I dislike about KoDP is it's impractical to ironman it. The endgame has reload or gameover RNG elements.

I like how the story is similar to real ancient stories, eg. you get to have sex with a mountain (as in literally fucking the rock).

It's practically the same as the original except a few new scenes and better graphics. If Doom source ports are on-topic than so is this remaster.
