post forgotten character who could have been icons.
So I'm trying to put together a timeline of all the Mario games but I'm having some difficulty. Hopefully you guys can help.
So here's what I have so far:
Yoshi's Island. This is the first Mario game obviously.
Yoshi's Island DS. This is the second game, but it only happens if Yoshi succeeds.
Mario Bros (NES). This is the second game, but it only occurs in the timeline if Yoshi failed the events of Yoshi's Island and Bowser took over.
Super Mario 2. This continues the "Yoshi Lost" timeline, but it also branches...

>Super Mario 3. This would be the 5th game in the 7th timeline. But it also branches into 9 timelines itself depending on if Mario defeats the koopa kids or not and which ones he defeats
SMB3 is canonically a stage show

Just teasers and no nitty gritty details yet, but it is official and will be happening.
I'm looking forward to all the shitty movies they'll pump out.
If they're anything like the Mario movie or the Wizard they'll at least be good for a cheesy laugh.
The inevitable Netflix original series anime will be absolute shit though. I'm expecting Bleach-tier garbage.
Is a Sega Saturn worth buying? There was one I saw for $60 at a local pawn shop. Saw it came with a racing wheel as well as a few games.
Why are there no free as in freedom retro games?
I'm sure there was at least one open-source game for a retro computer (C64, Amstrad, etc). If only because of magazines for them. Or maybe an open-source Net Yaroze game.
Also, this is the most dignified response your shitty bait will probably get.
Is it a good game?
Anymore videos like this out there? These old training or promo videos are oddly enjoyable.
Is it worth buying one, or is this thing just a piece of shit?
>WHY DO I KEEP RUNNING OUT OF FUEL
ITT games you never beat as a kid because you were to stupid to know how to play
This game absolutely flummoxed me as a kid.
Anyone know more about the Gamate? I'm intressted in owning one, are there any other produced versions (like with the Watara and the Mega Duck). Besides eBay are there any other places where you might find one?
The Gamate is a meme system. If you want to purchase one, don't buy it with the idea that you'll be playing a lot of games on it. The screen is very low quality and the buttons are cheap plastic that dig into your fingers.
Hint: you can't
anyone fucked around with one of these?
seems to be on par or better than the frame meister and no buying from japan and spending $500
Are you man enough to save Aerosmith?
Was George a bad person? He stole the aliens knowledge of PSI and brought it to Earth. And he left his wife Maria when he ran back to Earth and never saw her again.
Are the /vr/ Elder Scrolls games good? Are any of them bad? How buggy are they compared to Bethesda's more recent games?
As someone who joined the series with Oblivion and has trouble playing Morrowind (which is a shame, because I've heard so many great things about the story, and I fall asleep watching YouTube playthroughs), is there any hope that I could actually get used to playing any of these, or am I doomed to be a casual forevermore?
Arena is a straightforward clone of UU and Legends of Valour, Daggerfall is its more ambitious and buggier sequel, Battlespire is a buggy and broken dungeon crawl, and Redguard is an adventure game.
How did I not know about this?
It's fun but hella short, some segments are amazing though, like the part where the wife gets abducted by those terrorists and she has to defuse the bomb by playing a rhythm game with the terrorists doing some reggae in the background, or when she somehow gets in a plane and has to fight the aliens invading the city.
The children sections were a bit rushed though, which is a shame.
So one of my favorite retro turn-based RPGs is Shining Force (and of course, it's sequel, Shining Force II). Anyone else here remember this oft-overlooked gem?
>the original FF team will never make a retro FF again
don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened
ah good, another II player
what influences magic defense in the NES version?
my frontliners have good physical evasion (Firion 6 and Guy 10 and I just got the black mask) but their magic defense is 3 and 4
Post your 3x3s for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. Use Sega-16 for game screenshots.
There you go. Thread won't be so lonely now.
Old Genesis/SNES mosaic I made.
I actually played Panorama Cotton but only briefly and I thought it was a bit clunky, but I want to like it so I'm reserving my judgement on it until I play it more.
Super Fantasy Zone is fantastic and it's not mentioned often enough.
PS series is still pending for me, I only tried to play II but couldn't hold my attention for too long.
That game you used to play with your best friend everyday when you were a kid.
What was it?
>be me 2 decades ago
>spend hours playing sonic games
>get in pool
>move sideways with my eyes near the water and pretend i'm looking at a sick parallax background
Am I the only one? Seriously, I fucking love scrolling parallax backgrounds with depth in old games.
I love parallax.
Planning on recreating this thunderforce iv level by overlaying painted transparent sheets representing each layer and putting it on my wall so i can feel it whenever i walk past it
Never knew this was intended to be Streets of Rage 4.
What was the best retro Sonic game, /vr/?
I never see this game discussed. What is /vr/s thoughts on it? Is it worth playing through?
Absolutely loved this game. It has a "false" end, and you can't get to the real end of the game without 100%ing it. Kind of cool, but more annoying than anything. I really want to go back and play this game in an emulator with better controls. The N64 controls and frame rate do this game a disservice. I imagine it still holds up really well otherwise.
Not retro, but did anyone play this on the Rare collection for Xbox One? Does it play in higher framerate? Did they change the controls?
The people that bitch about the tribals are just posers who don't actually enjoy JFG and probably aren't good at it either.
People that like JFG love the opportunity to find new levels and get better at older ones.
Does anyone own one of these?
I'm trying to figure out how to get the N64 DD to work with my American N64.
>Trying to get a japanese only addon to work for an american console.
How came that DKC2 sold more copies in Japan then other regions? I noticed that they liked the game a lot.
Good question. Never knew about that.
The first one sold 3 mln copies there—not that far from 4.36 mln in America. But the third one actually sold more in Japan than in US—1.75 mln vs 1.17 mln. (all numbers from VG Chartz). Japan also got an exclusive GBC Donkry Kong Land III.
Why? I don't know. Usually, Japanese hate Western video games, with few exceptions—and this seems like one of them. But on the other hand—why not? DK was a well-known Ninty character. It was a platformer, not a racing...

You forgot to post their objectively better cover
Now that the dust has settled, we can all agree this thing is p cool huh
>dust has settled
Are you nuts? Only a small minority of people who want to have one of these do because of scalpers. We need three of four more waves of restocks, then we can talk about settled dust.
>they'll never add any more despite the NES having a fucking gigantic library
>most of the inside is empty space
>it'll probably be the exact same situation with the inevitable SNES CE
Do you play retro or current games more and why?
Extreme curiosity. I personally prefer old games but tend to play more new ones. Though after how bad ff xv is im seriously considering strictly playing retro.
Current. I've played every old game worth playing. Many are fun to play over and over again. But there is so much new stuff coming out all the time that even if one in a million is good I couldn't play them all. And new games usually take a lot longer
Template time, /vr/. Let's see the first games for systems you could call your very own - not your older brothers' games, but YOURS. If you didn't own said system, then just listing your first played game is fine. And if you haven't played the system at all then you can leave it blank.
