I'm getting a hankering for some old MMORPGs, preferably ones that have decent sized communities (~10+ active players at any given time). Anyone know any that are still running after all these years? I'd love to get into one and just go on some adventures.
I was really digging HellMOO, but the game hasn't really added anything new in years, so I'm kind of running out of shit to do.
>>2927795 I've wasted plenty on my life on eq including the p1999 servers.
Pros: Fucking huge world to explore. You can spend 2000 hours on a char and still have parts unknown. P1999 has the best eq community I've ever seen, including the GMs. Zero hand-holding, you won't see quest markers telling you where to go, hell you won't see an in game map. If you want to know which direction you're facing you'll have to lvl up sense direction skill, buy a compass or cast true north. Almost... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>2927205 One of the many systems overshadowed by the NES monolith, and later the dogfight between Nintendo and SEGA here in the US. I consider myself lucky I got to play with a Master System back when I was younger at my cousin's house. Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Double Dragon, California Games, Choplifter, lots of great games. Pretty much everyone I talked to before the internet days were completely confused whenever I mentioned it, and kept asking if I meant the Genesis.
Got a chance to play with the Philips... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>2927229 I never even knew that Sega had mad a system prior to the mega-drive/genesis until years after they stopped making consoles
My school in 4th grade had a Philips CDi but only had the edutainment games that where basically just interactive encyclopedias. I thought it was pretty neat but didn't think I ha much potential for video games
>>2927127 Wow really? I can send my console off to have some creeps mod it with their dirty dick beaters and all so I can play games on a a different kind of tv? You know what pass, I paid 15$ for a 32" crt with s-video and rgb.
>What I’d really like to make is a game with a system that allows total freedom for the player. For example, despite it being a sword and sorcery world, the hero decides to do nothing and just quietly enjoy his life as a local baker in town. If everyone could take up different roles in some kind of computer networked game, I think it would be really fun. - Falcom's Yoshio Kiya, 1987
>Girl: "Hey, we have homeroom together" >Me: "Do you like Kirby Superstar for the Super Nintendo?" >Girl: "Yeah I guess uh, I was wondering if you wanted to go down by the creek" >Me: "It's really multiple smaller games in one, offering gameplay diversity you don't usually find in-" >Girl: "The teachers can't see what goes on there you know" Comment too long. >>2926745 >newest games we're allowed to discuss on /vr/? That would probably be homebrew/romhacks for /vr/ consoles. Unless you are talking about official releases. The last PSX game came out in 2006(according to wikipedia), the last N64 game in 2002, and the last Dreamcast games came out around 2004-2005. Since the GBC was discontinued in 2003 since the GBA was already on the scene, I figure the last game made for the GBC was somewhere around that time period as well.
What are some good space exploration games on consoles? A game where i can just fly around and participate in dog fights, upgrade my ship, etc. It seems that games like this are usually exclusive to PC but I'm hoping there's something close to that concept that was available on retro consoles.
Different television/electrical standards. America was 60Hz/NTSC, Europe was 50Hz/PAL. Games written in Europe on the PAL standard were usually incompatible with NTSC machines, and vice versa. Especially so if the game used advanced programming tricks that relied on exact timing.
Usually the PAL version of a given game is better, the C64 scene was just more developed in Europe. Excellent example being OP pic, Bionic Commando.
>>2926649 They noticed how no one took RE1 seriously, and rightly so, so they went "it was always meant to be tongue in cheek guise, lol, cant you hear the new music, this is the way it was always meant to be."
>>2926605 Not really all that different from the old AVerMedia AVerKey's. It works, but the picture is a bit on the fuzzy side(don't expect to be able to read small text), and there is the occasional scanline distortion, and the occasional frame of lag. You will be able to play, but it's not that much of an improvement from using your LCD monitor, and in some ways will be worse. You'll get more enjoyment using it to send video signal from movies and tv shows to your CRT. Call me crazy, but old B/W movies... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
