What are your impressions on using the Steam Link for retro games. whether native and emulated? It sounds like a decent alternative to lugging the computer around or getting a full fledged computer for the living room.
>>2906706 Naw, man. The battle system was experimental at best. I thought it was tedious and unsatisfying. But literally everything else is fucking fantastic, I just wish it was more fun for me. I tried too, I pumped in a lot of hours to the game several times and just can't dig it.
>>2906709 I understand your sentiments. When I first bought it, I was like "da fuck?", but after playing for a while and really starting to understand it I realized it was a really cool idea. The only downside in my mind was they game never really made you master it. Too bad you didn't feel the same way. To me it was Xenogears battle system done right, and I think we can all agree that one sucked ass (but was a necessary slog to finish such a good story).
As someone who never had an experience with early PC games, looking at them now, they're fucking terrifying.
The sounds are scary, the visuals are just... off and terrifying. It's not just the space quest games, but all the point and click adventure games, they're fucking scary, regardless of content. I'm glad I grew up with the SNES/64 era, because I would hate my life if I had that shit growing up.
Couldn't find any threads related to Metroid and I'm looking to getting into the series. I want to start with the original, though in my research I found that Zero Mission is a remake of the original. Should I play Zero Mission instead of the original, or is it like playing Twin Snakes instead of MGS?
Can we have a /vr/ related Shin megami tensei,Majin tensei and related games thread? I'm doing a second run through the first two SMT games and am working my way through the first one again. Any one played Majin tensei? Is it worth it?
>>2906530 15kHz CRTs as popular on /vr/ are typically fixed refresh rate. Consoles are also fixed refresh rate. PC monitor CRTs are variable refresh rate, and some games are variable frame rate, so for those you can change your refresh rate in the graphics card settings. For emulated or fixed framerate games changing the refresh rate will destroy motion quality, so you have to deal with the flicker.
Note that flicker is literally the only way to get high motion quality at low latency from 60fps content. 60fps isn't "high framerate", it's the bare minimum acceptable.
>>2906546 >>2906546 That really sucks. On a semi-related note, is there any way to upscale the NES's composite video? The best quality I can get on my CRT is component, no s-video. Is there any composite to component converter I could use to make it look somewhat better?
I know people will shit on me for saying that I want to use a converter, but it looks horrible on my CRT for reason.
>>2906558 No, NES cannot output component or RGB, and any converter will just be the same thing as is already in the CRT. You need something like the NESRGB mod (RGB can be converted to component with no perceptible lag or quality loss).
Or just emulate and avoid all this trouble (easiest with a PC monitor CRT, which looks better than a 15kHz CRT anyway).
>>2906494 Well of course you leave it there, you don't have time to drag the bombs away when you're on such a short timer. Speeding to the next one is the only logical move. >One lone foot clan snorkler goes down and reactivates all the bombs 10 minutes later when the turtles are busy looking for missiles and fighting mecha-turtles. >Shredder wins
>>2906315 Wait wait wait. WAIT wait wait wait wait. You're bitching that Japan had better box art that us, and as your pictured example you choose a game that had THE EXACT SAME PICTURE as the box art for both versions?
