I'm pretty critical of modern "retro" clone consoles but I have to give this thing really high marks. FPGA cloning is theoretically the most accurate cloning possible and I haven't read anything that would lead me to doubt it's the case here. It seems to have a good selection of features that while not as broad as the Jack DIY-NES 2 (its only direct competitor) does include HDMI (rather than VGA) and other such desirable features as a case, a 72-pin NES slot and controller ports at a similar price point.
>>3580262 It's an opinion so it's obviously true in that sense. I had both but for some reason over the years my genesis collection has always been more than twice as big because I ended up liking more of the games on it.
Opinions will always vary though, that's what makes them opinions.
I played almost them all. Nice Pokémon-style games, although a bit repetitive. Even with the changes they added and the new medarots the series got stale just after 2. 5 looks amazing and has a nice comfy color palette, looking almost like a GBa game, but no one liked the countryside Japan setting and the new protagonist.
I'm almost done with pic related (100% on everything except the last world) and have 100%ed 2 and 3 in the past few months. My terrible opinion, in case you're wondering, is 2>3>1, because I really like the "platforming with side challenges" of 2 but 3 takes it too far and is obviously rushed while 1 has good platforming but weird controls for someone who played only 2 and 3 as a kid (that initial D charging...)
Anyway, let's have a thread about 5th generation collectathons/3d platformers. I've been using Spyro to calm down when other... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
What are good retro games to play while listening podcast (preferibly for SNES)? RPG's with little story, lots of grinding and some exploration. I found Megami Tensei I pretty good (only bad thing is the OST being too good), they have to be pretty basic but still interesting games.
hey /vr/, as a kid, my father gave me this console (more pictures following), a "700 in 1"-bootleg-console he claimed someone from work imported to europe (this was around 1992 and he said it originated from south korea). it contains some 8-bit-classics like super mario, tetris, donkey kong and arkanoid among some games wich have never been released outside of south korea and japan (some of them appeared on the wii store a few years ago).
there are literally no infos about this console nowhere and i was curious if anyone here had one too? as far as i know... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
So, I usually just use my X-Box 360 controller in the PC to play modern stuff and is great, but oh dear god the d-pad is AWFUL.
Usually it is used for stuff like holster the weapon or simple stuff like that, so that is fine, but I tried to play some Super C yesterday and jesus fuck, the piece of shit does what it wants when it wants, I literally played the first level for 40 minutes and I could NOT beat it because the d-pad would not always respond well (I have 2, is not because is broken), while as a kid with the NES controller I rocked the motherfucker game, hell, with... I got it at a time I already had a N64 and a PS1, so SNES or Genesis didn't get my main attention anymore, but I played DCK3 quite a bit. I remember lenting it to my neighbors who had a SNES, and they finished the game before I did. I took my time but eventually did it. Never 103%'d it. I still liked DKC2 the best, but DKC3 is up to the series' standards.
>>3576969 He's just useless outside of the few time that you need to water skip of use his fat ass to bust through a floor. Dixie is faster and has the helicopter spin. She is hands-down the better character.
>>3571896 No. This isn't slowdown, it's very clearly dropped frames and stutter. I am fully aware of what Mega Man 2 plays like on actual hardware, even going to the bubbleman stage knowing what slowdown actually feels like on the console.
This is just random dips and drops. Even the audio crackles.
Is there some kind of list about which game did what first? If not can we attempt to make one by trying to find out what games were the first to have features we can think of?
As an example of what I mean I have seen the question of what was the first game to feature wall jumping occasionally pop up here on /vr/ which has usually been answered with either Batman or Ninja Gaiden for the NES. If these are the candidates the title obviously goes to Ninja Gaiden as it came out before Batman. I have also seen Ocarina of Time often being credited as the first game to have "Z-targeting"... >>3566846 >tfw the character selection images were made by rob liefeld I actually couldn't find any credits but there is no fucking way he wasn't involved. His print is all over it. why would you add dog shit art in your game on purpose God damn, I hated that so much
I just bought a dreamcast. Never owned one back in the day, I mostly got it because there's no piracy protection so I don't have to sink a bunch of money into games for a new system
So what are the best games for the system? Hidden gems?
Also, it isn't reading discs. I've heard you can up the intensity of the laser by turning a screw which should fix the problem. Anybody ever do this before? How easy is it to overdo it and ruin your laser?
>>3566252 You bought a broken DC. If it's not reading commercial discs you're pretty much boned. You can increase the laser strength, but it's a band-aid and will completely die soon. You could replace the drive, get a GDEMU for hundreds of dollars after being on a waitlist for several years, or scrape buy with an SD Card reader and deal with its shortcomings.
It's /vr/ alright, don't let any shitposter tell you otherwise. As for the laser, I remember taking some pliers and turning the screw, but it didn't make a difference because the disc I was trying to read turned out to be defective lol. So I just turned the screw back in the default position and haven't had any problems since.
I am going to poll /vr/ in regards to what their favorite games are for each major retro game console. The way it works is you put a Top 10 list of your favorite games for a particular game console (in this case its for the PlayStation). The game listed as number 1 gets ten points all the way down to number 10 which gets only a single point.
I am curious how /vr/'s taste is for the leader of the fifth generation.
Welcome to the 70s to early 90s Computer Gaming General. We talk about games and the hardware they were made for, either micro, mini or mainframe computers, desktop, tower or all in keyboard package, from Japan, the US, Europe, or anywhere, if the platform came out before 1995.

>>3565885 Glad you like it. It's not my setup although I have been putting together a boxed collection of Wing Commander games over the past month or so. I've got the whole main series now but I'm still waiting on my copy of Wing Commander 2 to arrive.
>>3564758 Not quite /vr/ enough for the fucking nazis who patrol this board-- --but Homeworld Cataclysm was pretty solid. I actually liked it more than Homeworld 2. Shame the source code was lost, otherwise it would have been in that Gearbox re-release of the Homeworld games.
>>3564870 Cataclysm had superior missions than Homeworld (longer, more objectives, enemy keeps building ships) and probably better multiplayer (no support frigates) but somehow I still like the original better.
I don't like how in Cataclysm veteran ships moved faster and and damaged ships moved slower. This screwed up fighter formations and got them all killed.
