>>3670367 Smw scrolling has different states. Typically the vertical position is based on the platform that you're on. (Iirc in a vanilla dome stage you can walk up a slope and actually disappear because the cameras still centered on the platform you landed on.)
The exception is when you're running at top speed. In that case the camera centers on Mario and follows him around, which could lead to "jumpiness". The case is probably that you're playing much faster and running through things than you did before.
>don't have a working CRT but have a Famicom >don't have an everdrive so I can't play any games on it besides the original SMB >don't have a USB controller to play the games on an emulator even if I wanted to >don't want to spend like $300 on an AVS and an Everdrive because HDMI is not what the developers intended Why is retro gaming so retardedly obtuse outside of a few popular systems? I would need to spend a minimum... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>3670140 Dude just re-read what u just wrote in its entirety. You have to spend 175 so you can play EVERY game the system has to offer, and your mad cuz expensive stuff keeps getting more expensive? I mean you are just one big first world problem. Emulate the games and play them on a crt wtf u so mad about kid.
"Through correspondence with the Australian distributor Directsoft, a small team from down under was hired to create the next Wizardry. It seems like the team has been put together rather haphazardly ... "
"In this final segment, Robert opens up about Wizardry 8 and the legal morass Sir-Tech found itself in with Andrew Greenberg. We also chat about the infamous Stones of Arnhem project and a programmer who became unhinged after it lost funding."

Uploaded on Aug 21, 2010 Let's Play Wizards & Warriors. This video game is pretty rare, and some people were curious about it, so I decided to do a lets play for anyone who is interested. This is my first "Let's Play" so please bear with me as I work out my editing issues and recording issues as I go from video to video. Comments and... Comment too long. Talk about obscure, the company behind Halcyon went bankrupt days before the official release. It sold for $2500 in 1985 money and that's with the company taking a big financial hit with every console produced. While there are a good hundred of these things circulating due to store owners keeping their limited stock of consoles, they may have never officially sold a single unit.
It only had 2 games, a meh football simulator and one great game, the definitive version of Thayer's Quest.
It's not, as wRPGs are still discussed here, lurk more. But if you're gonna bitch about japanese culture on a fucking chan, I recommend you read the history of 4chan. Also, while the founder of 4chan is American, the current owner is japanese (no less than the old admin of 2ch, where moot got the idea). So basically 4chan is currently a japanese website.
The Konix Multisystem was a cancelled video game system under development by Konix, a British manufacturer of computer peripherals. Initially the Multisystem was scheduled for release in late 1989 to mid 1990, however Konix really didn't have the resources for the project and the release never came.
1) AVOID SPOILERS LIKE THE BAD AIDS. In fact you should probably not come back to this thread just to be in the safe side. The game has a fantastic story ,- in fact it is almost pure story - you don't want to ruin it by finding out what happens in advance
2) Play a bit of Star Control 1 (via Genesis emulation) to get in the mood.
Since I am not American it took years for me to find out the USA had a video game crash in the 80s. Europe was doing just fine. Now there are a bunch of yank machines I never paid any attention to / never got to see in real life because they didn't exist here. My question is: DID I miss out on anything? What special games did those machines have? I am talking about machines like Magnavox Odyssey, Intellivision, ColecoVision and all the other stuff I can not think about at the moment / probably don't even know. So 1) could you kindly list those old machines 2) tell... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
All three have emulators. The Odyssey and ColecoVision I never owned, but some of Intellivision's sports games (especially baseball) hold up really well. There's some ports of Atari 2600 games that are better on it (like Demon Attack). Of the three it's the best imho.
The Coleco boasted being better than the Atari 2600 and having more faithful arcade ports like Pac-Man, Galaga and the system seller was Donkey Kong. The Coleco was like in-between an atari 2600 and a NES. I think the hardware was similar to the SG-1000.
One of my favorite games on it is LadyBug, if you like Pac-Man, I think this one is the best pacman clone around.
Colecovision really had the best arcade ports of its time.
Intellivision had some neat little games, like Nightstalker, the Dungeons and Dragons games, Astroblast, and lots of good sports games.
Odyssey was very simple, but the Odyssey 2 had a few fun games like Pick Axe Pete and the "KC" games. It also had some board games that came complete with real boards and pieces, but you'd need the manuals to understand them.
Seen mk2, mk3, maximum carnage, golden axe and aladdin complete for $10 each. This made me think about getting back into retro. Whats /vr/ thoughts on these prices? Also had streets of rage 2 but they wanted 40, and i couldnt see the price on bloodlines. Prices are canadian btw.
I would likely still emulate the more expensive titles but it just doesnt make me feel nostalgic like the physical copy does. After looking on ebay most of the morning, I plan on going back to the pawn shop this afternoon to pick up some of the cheaper games.
When did your tastes mature and you finally realized SoR 3 had the best soundtrack in the series?
>most complex and abstract songs >more uncommon time signatures >doesn't try doing easy listening music for pop appeal and goes straight for the hardcore scene >technical mastery of the OPN2 FM chip - one of the least accurate soundtracks on an emulator
A nice OST recording off the original hardware: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRrf-WxRsgs
>>3668489 > It's an anon rationalizes "soundtrack" quality as bidimensional vector in order to categorically simplify context and other variable factors to anchor any evaluation on easily fortifiable static technical principles with no potentially arguable personal judgement involved episode
I tried playing PoR. It's undeniably on different level compared to other games of 80s, but interface is still borderline unusable. I made it to part where you are supposed to fight 2 trolls and stalled there. I know it should be doable with merc, but I don't want to hire merc and trolls should not be an encounter for such low level party. Still much better than crap like Wizardry 1 and M&M 1 though, maybe one day I will pick it up on GoG and give it another try.
>>3668660 You can leave this fight until your mages are level 3. The Stinking Cloud spell is overpowered. It can even essentially instant kill everything in the Goldbox games except magic immune enemies like the Beholders and Steel Golems.
>>3668392 I thought the Savage Frontier games were the best. Their interface and overall gameplay are a major improvement over the first games. They're one par with the others history-wise. I like how you're given total freedom over what city you'll be visiting next, giving them a good open world feel.
>get pic related >ui is stupid >won't recognize translated roms unless you force it to load one >everything looks blurry and most shaders are shit >go back to snes9x and play some ff4 >everything feels and works perfectly
