Better graphics, resolution and soundtrack, it's based on the megadrive version so if you played the snes you'll find the level design a bit weird. The only way to run this thing on a modern os is to install windows 3.1 on dosbox and mount it to cd-rom drive, pretty annoying.
I don't think anybody on /vr/ is contesting that the N64 had a smaller library. That's beside the point, though. People enjoy the platform for the quality of games available for it. I've also felt it worthwhile to invest in a WonderSwan Color, even though it has comparatively much fewer games than the GBA. There's no other way for me to play the Makai Toushi SaGa remake. Plus I did think the WSC remakes of FF1 and 2 were much more solid than their GBA counterparts.

>>2865727 Actually, yes. One thing I didn't notice at first was the map function. Walk around a new area of the city, and open your map. It lays out the entire area with markers showing the names of locations and stuff like that. It's really useful to just walk in a circle in the city to get the map so it is less overwhelming.
Other than that, just do some side quests and talk to people. It gets a lot less overwhelming once you understand the city (there are only 4 or 5 main areas that are easily mapped)
I never finished final fantasy 4, and I'd really like to play it. What should I know about which roms to use? I've heard the original SNES translation was really bad but I only ever played it on the PS1 in 2000 or something so I don't know firsthand how much they differ.
>>2865658 GBA version, you get a decent translation with a nice graphical update without the shoddy 3D of the DS version or the terrible "updated style" of the PSP version. Music in IV was technically not that complex for the system so it transfers over to the GBA just fine, but a music patch exists if it bothers you.
>>2865638 >wanting to play games in an inferior refresh rate and resolution
Top kek mate. England an ice here, and I am glad I imported an ntsc monitor years ago. You never realize how shitty our 50hz and bordered resolutions suck until you play games how the japs meant them to be played.
$20 at a yard sale. eBay is highway robbery. Good luck tracking down those games, too. Reseller scum tend to stalk out second-hand outlets and buy them up before any serious players can, then they just sit in some empty storage unit because no one in their right mind is going to pay that kind of money.
it's been a longass time. i can remember a hugely frustrating level where you mapped out a maze while running out of air and dying over and over and over, and another level where it implied you were looking for a hidden door to win the level but you actually had to mash your face right up against an underwater window.
>>2864683 I think Mac Wizardry had that. There's also the Japanese Windows game but it seems impossible to come by nowadays.
If you're fine with keyboard controls there are the Japanese computer releases from the 80s, particularly the PC-98 one, which are more or less identical to the C64 and IBM port with higher resolution text and graphics and the extra options for Japanese text. Apple II is obviously the original but it's a bit clunky compared to the ports.
