>>3558314 I've thought about this a lot lately. I believe honestly everything will move to emulation as it's showing more and more everyday that this is already true. And shit like the NES mini will be popping up once every couple years or so from the companies that are still around.
I think a niche solution for CRT visuals will emerge in fairly short order.
I don't know where it will come from, certainly the manufacturing and engineering costs are well beyond the current retro gaming cottage industries can't support an undertaking on a "make new CRTs for Nintendo's" in the same way we cooked up stuff like the Everdrive - but there have to be some other interests at play, since we had like 60 years of technology based entirely around cathode tube displays.
Maybe some people in the video or film industries will have... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>3558314 I don't see that demand will ever "dry up". You have a whole generation of tweens who are being introduced to this. You can bet they'll be buying the shit they can't afford now in 20 years when they have disposable income.
When the last CRT breaks we'll just use replicator credits to make a new one. I know it's a popular /vr/ maymay that no one makes CRTs any more but that's just silly kid talk. CRTs are still being made. Even if the last one rolled off the line today... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I'm level 54 and I have already beaten the main storyline. I used Hastega on my team, had a mystic knight with thunderga enchanted + rapidfire, dual wield and mime. But still couldn't come close to beating this thing.
Whenever I attack him, he counter attacks with a bunch of moves. Rocket punch deals half of your health and confuses you, Delta attack petrifies you. Musturd bomb one-shots a team member, dispel one-shots a team member by making them forget about something? (Basically death, but can't... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>3557381 Level 54 is way too underleveled for Omega. Come back to it when you have a level 99 party with all class levels maxed for everyone. Yes, even Freelancer. Freelancer gets a lot of stat points for every class mastered. I think I beat him with a party of Mimics miming the most powerful attack in the game. It's been a long time though so I don't remember the exact strategy.
Hi, retro-kuns! I need your advice. Which one looks more like a SNES connected via RGB to a PVM CRT? A or B? I know that snes rgb was a bit more blurry than ps1 rgb, Does A or B look more like a PS1 connected via RGB to a PVM CRT? Oh - and please no triggered autists that want me to play on the real console, buy a crt or shitpost about shaders/"filters" instead of helping me - you will be blocked! Thank you.
ITT: Games you're still waiting to get translated. I'm waiting for a Sakura Wars translation. Last update was roughly half a year ago at 30% completion. Sadly its a PC translation, not the Sega Saturn.
Japan was too in love with their own hardware and didn't have much direction as a business in general. What's that old fucked saying...? Even though you may like cheesecake, doesn't mean you can fish with it? Whatever, fuck Sega Japan essentially.
>>3557042 >>3557047 I remember playing Dragon View after I got through Drakkhen. IIRC I was just disappointed by it.
I mean, don't get me wrong, Dragon View's not necessarily a bad game, but it just lacked all of the charm, the atmosphere, the feel of Drakkhen. It just felt like a generic JRPG that happened to have an overworld mode that mimicked Drakkhen.
>>3556932 It's an arcade machine that uses cartridges (MVS and AES), there's a dedicated upright machine and board (the MVS) and a home console version (AES). These two use different cartridges but are the same games and hardware.
Neo Geo is a 1987 album by Ryuichi Sakamoto. The term "neo geo", or "new world", is derived from Sakamoto himself as a way to describe worldwide musical diversity in regard to genre (similar to world music and world beat).
The track Risky featuring Iggy Pop on vocals was released as a single with another track from "Neo Geo" After All as the B side. The music video for Risky was directed by Meiert Avis and was released in two different versions to accompany the 7" and 12" extended version of the song. The latter contains scenes... Rondo of Blood for the PC-Engine (remade for the PSP) is the best classic entry in the series. Aside from that, some other good classic games in the series are Dracula's Curse (Japanese version is the best because of the enhanced audio), the original (Japanese version is better again for the same reason), and Rebirth on the Wii.
Symphony of the Night is the best Metroidvania entry in the series. Saturn version is nowhere near as bad as people make it seem but you probably don't want to play that version for your first time through the game. Some of the other... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
If you play Super Mario Bros. backwards, it's about a plumber that locks a princess in a castle, summons a giant turtle dragon from the lava to guard the room she is locked in, and runs away, resurrecting several brown mushroom-like creatures along the way, only for the turtle dragon to return the princess, and cast a spell turning stones and plants into little mushroom people.
Okay, seriously. Where is a good file of Skies of Arcadia? I've gone through the magic spreadsheet and YZB is the only one on there, and I perpetually freeze in the same place every time. All other files either don't read, are too large, too fragmented, or don't work, in the case of Echelon. Whose dick do I have to suck to get at least one image that works? I refuse to pay $70 for a game.
The Space Invaders: In Search of Lost Time is really good but the whole thing has a really somber and depressing tone. It focuses quite a bit on how big arcade games used to be and just how scarce they are now.
I'm replaying WL3 and remembering how great the levels and bosses are. I think 2 and 3 are the best in the series because of the unique gimmick of Wario being immortal, so you get punished in other ways for fucking up, like getting sent out of boss areas or having to redo areas of a level due to the severe knockback when you get hit. Only level which has been bad so far is that bridge where you dodge fish, but I love the day/night changes, the fact that you revisit levels to find more treasure, and that levels work around your power-ups in order to find new treasures, expanding... >>3551627 Honestly I hope it does, all the hipsters have been going there and skipping out on all the thrift stores, comic book/toy stores, etc. Picked up Nightmare Creatures for N64 for $2.99 yesterday at one of the comic book shops.
Retroarch is causing me a lot of bother. When I try to run a romhack from a playlist generated with the batch file, it crashes, but when I run the same thing from the now-generated history entry it works fine. Am I doing something wrong or is Retroarch just retarded?
>>3547926 Retroarch has "playlists" section (look in settings) where you must assign core to a particular rom type. When you open rom manually you chose core, in history section it still remembers your choice however when you try open rom from playlists it doesnt know what core to chose and crashes.
Another thing you need to look for, some rom collections have multiple roms inside zip folder. When you try to open such zip with core it crashes, zips with one rom inside can be opened normally.
>>3547982 I actually set the core but it still crashes, and seems to crash the first time I run things but works on the second. It was the No Intro set I was using.
I already decided "Screw it" and dumped my roms into my Gens folder. Retroarch is not worth the trouble, especially with the consolized interface. Only thing it's good for is shaders but I'd rather have an emulator that pouts its lips and demands its Thomas the Tank Engine plate at breakfast.
