SaGa Frontier's 2 plot spans several generations, divided between two major protagonists. The game doesn't adequately explain the backgrounds of certain key characters or concepts though. There are a lot of things you'll discover only by reading the Ultimania guide published at a later time.
The DoS version of FF1 is radically different from the original game. Enemy stats are toned down, items are made cheaper, characters have MP instead of spells-per-level, etc. You're essentially playing the game on cruise control.
As for the story, FF1 is very minimalistic. You're sent out to gather four key items before taking on the final boss, and your characters are just blank slates. The game definitely emphasizes gameplay over plot.
FF2's characters are more developed and have identities and backstories. You can nonetheless develop their skills... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>2843172 I suggest going through 1 first, if only because going through 2 first will make going back to the first game feel like a terrible chore.
In some ways I think the DoS version of 1 is among the best because there's absolutely zero need to grind ever and you can blow through it quickly. The setting and story are a little neat, but the gameplay of the first game is extremely boring. No matter your party set up, at least 90% of the actual gameplay is just having everyone in your party attack.

With the confirmation of System Shock 3, I think it's time we discussed the first two games.
Did you like 1 or 2 more? Personally I preferred the first because it focused more on SHODAN, whereas The Many took too much of the spotlight in the sequel. Also the hacking levels were leagues better in SS compared to the rather lame minigame that 2 had. I think the music and level designs were better in the first as well.
I don't know whether to praise this game or not On one hand it's very inferior to the other games in every category, on the other the lack of save feature along with constant onslaught of T-103s and hunters make this most intense game in the series yet
It is kinda funny how you can dodge most enemies but there are so many of them it feels like true survival
I love this game. No, it doesn't really stand up to any other first person shooters, but its got that cheesy B-movie feel that they eventually abandoned. Its also a great way to get a different perspective given that the player actually has some control of the camera in it. It really nailed the spooky factor, and the diverging paths give the game a lot of replay value.
>>2842457 Comix Zone is one game that wouldn't need a sequel, for one. That game was a product of its time; it had the pop culture of an entire decade stuffed in the cart. If they made one now, it wouldn't be as radical as the original.
What are /vr/'s favorite puzzle games? Recently I've been playing Emeraldia by Namco. In addition to the standard unlimited mode, there's an Adventure mode, where you have to clear a path to drop fish off the bottom of the screen. It's a very fun game overall, and making large chains of blocks is very satisfying. What puzzle games do you like?
I'm new to PS1 piracy. Is it like music/movies, where there are different levels of qualities between rips (like lower audio or picture quality), or is it just a matter of the game working/not working?
This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!
>Try to keep it /vr/-related: Nothing past 5th gen(+Dreamcast). Slight OT might be okay if related to CRTs (E.G. 16:9 compatible models, flatscreens, etc.) Systems with backwards compatibility are also pretty safe territory, assuming you're focusing on the older games. PC CRTs are also a-ok. Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>2842181 I own one. Bought it at Super Potato when I was in Tokyo. Pretty much the best famicom console I own (compared to an original Famicom or a famiclone) Plus you get the built-in disk system. Only downside, the controller cords are too damn short.
