Harvest Moon 1 is one of the few SNES games that allowed religion. It censored the alcohol (instead they drink "juice") however it's still very unambiguous that the characters get wasted and that there is a bar in town.
>While walking through the corridor to the princess after beating the last boss of the game, the Red Dragon, press and hold A + B + Select + Start + Up + Left on Controller 1. The princess, surprisingly, meets you topless.
Unlike the SMAS version, the original Famicom Disk System version actually has different graphic assets (look at the floor, the clouds, etc), but the rest of the sprites are mostly the same. It includes a few new things like the wind mechanic and Luigi has his own controls (he jumps floatier, similar to SMB2USA). The levels themselves were made by a different team than those from SMB1, they game is definitely meant to be played by experienced SMB1 players. Basically it's a game made for those who crave more challenge after SMB1.
>People tell me how great old school 80's RPGs are >Decide to check them out >They're all incredibly linear with single solutions >There's really no difference between your characters: They either fight with melee weapons or with projectiles like fireballs or missles
The conclusion that I came to is that old RPGs aren't particularly good as a matter of gameplay. They were a great value as a matter of price to time it took to play through the game. I mean you take your standard platformer from 3rd gen, and it lasts an hour or two, or until it got so difficult you ate up your continues/lives and you had to start over. RPGs lasted potentially tens of hours, because death didn't mean starting the whole game over, and the game was designed around exploring the towns and environment looking for a way forward.

No. Those games sold millions of copies, they're extremely common and it isn't odd that they're in good condition and are clean. Even if they are reproductions you can get a refund if you report it to ebay.
Compared to the originals, which of the Sega Ages remakes were actually better than their originals or are at least worth a look at? Used to hear about this series of remakes a lot back in the days but was in the phase of where I only wanted to play new stuff so didn't have any interest in them until now.
>Favorite? >Second Favorite? >Third Favorite? >Worst in the series?
Am I missing something? The few minutes of it I saw on YouTube looked like garbage. Why was Sonic running on the ceiling? Why were there explosions? Why would Sonic go into his death wail pose and spin around? Why was blood added to the spikes?
>>3505278 It's basically the Ninja Gaiden of Sonic. It has a ton of trial and error along with precision platforming. If that isn't your thing, then you wouldn't like it. Personally I like making myself suffer, so I played the whole game. Not to sound like a clickbait title, but the 8th stage's level of slow precision made me sweat.
>>3504931 >What is your opinion of this game? I'm wild about Psycho Dream. It's artsy, ethereal and really captures that occult feeling OVAs were so good at giving off. It's not exactly the most tight game but the presentation and stage design had me enthralled.
If there were just two more stages I think it'd be perfect but I have a theory the game was rushed and had there been more time it would have matured into something really captivating. The fact that we're... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
SMB2 seems to be considered among the easier Marios, but I actually find it the hardest. I wonder if it just has to do with your play style; i find this game significantly more difficult than 1 and 3, becuase in those games it seems memorization serves you better. In 2, I feel like you need better dexterity and the ability to adjust to the situation.
Pic related is something I still have incredible difficulty with, after all these years. I just can't get it. Digging in the sand with the shy guys, the ones shooting bullets..its a nightmare. And whenever I grab a key,... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>3504230 It's incredibly difficult if you play with Luigi or the princess. Yes, the princess. She's a good character if you want to minimize deaths to bottomless pits, but she takes forever to dig and pick up objects. This forces you to synchronize your movements to avoid the jabs of the shy guy or THE MASK. As for Luigi, I don't know. I can't get around with him. As a kid I enjoyed playing with Luigi because I liked how he jumped. Then I got to the latter levels and it became a literal hell.
>>3503418 Didn't realize this was a /vr/ thread and not /v/. Scratch silent storm but I'd still keep Geneforge even if it's past the cutoff date because the author has been essentially remaking the same few games since 1995
Hiro is allowing boards to openly discuss their rules, basically to determine how we want things ran. Original thread: >>3496160
GBA, with it's huge ties with retro franchises and consoles, has long been suggested to be fully allowed on /vr/ like the Dreamcast, and the old poll shows that may just be the consensus. (http://www.strawpoll.me/11225706/)
However the slippery slope is feared by some that this may allow the rest of the sixth generation, even though pro-GBA don't seem to... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>I'm going to post this shit again and again hoping people would stop telling me to fuck off. Your poll isn't worth anything, everybody can reset their routers to vote as many times as they want, and judging by your eager I'm pretty sure you would never do that uh.
>There is also a x68000 version of this game, which features many more encounters, and a large scrolling world with an animated girl icon. I assume this was a later version of the game. Good thing they didn't translate that.
The other games probably had like ten lines of simple text in total.
its still a great game, it just feels off. i guess that makes sense though if you say its done by a different team. the music is different for no reason also, and you cant even soft reset!? 1 was a good game (much harder), and it just felt a lot longer than this.
its a shame, they could have made it the defining game in the gameboy series...
what would you say the defining gameboy megaman is?
I am thinking of getting Ys Book 1 and 2 off the Wii's Virtual Console (it costs $8), however, most of the RPGs from the late 80's and early 90's are very dated in terms of their game play and do not hold up at all.
The game seems to have a nice soundtrack, but is this really a good game, or is it just famous for being among the first RPGs to really utilize the CD format?
