Hope, I'm right here. Gf never learned proper mouse + keyboard handling as in 'being able to play an ego shooter on pc'. Wanted to introduce her to quake 1 this weekend. Anon, what is the proper way to bring q1 with latest updates, optimizations, addons etc. to a win7 (64) machine? WHAT to grad WHERE? I kinda remember there where uncountable mods, patches and the like. Help me get through this jungle, please.
Darkplaces source-port, needed for most of this stuff to work:
Transparent water patch (technically cheating):
Huge list of stuff I haven't personally tested:
>believing that Darkplaces and HD textures on 1996 models and maps looks like anything else than bloody diarrhea
>True to GLQuake
This is a bad thing. GLQuake is even worse than original software rendering, because it doesn't support fullbrights and overbrights.
Quake isn't a pixel art game. The original graphics aren't some artistic masterpiece, they are simply the best that could be done with primitive hardware.
Pixel art is an example of an art style where there is a legitimate reason to preserve the original look. Quake would have looked like fully modded Darkplaces in 1996 if the hardware was up to it.
Fuck off already, faggot. Nobody cares how you BELIEVE id would make the game if they had access to superior hardware at that time
OP, just use Quakespasm for that original Quake experience. And don't forget the music
Exception: girls love Twinkle Star Sprites for some reason, and that game is awesome (in two player mode). But you will have to handicap yourself somehow because girls are no good at shmups.
What exactly makes you think she'll be interested? Would you want to sew or knit or some shit just because she likes it? You can have your own interests, you don't have to share everything. You can have things you just like to do together and things you just like to do alone or with another circle. People think the way you do about like religion or political beliefs. If videogames are so important that you can't imagine sharing your life with someone who doesn't like them, you need to get a grip.
