Portuguesefag here. Several scrolls and statues were found in the Azores when it was discovered in the 1400s. It's also common knowledge that various expeditions were sent to the region in order to find underwater structures during the 80s and they reported to have found pillars and other man made stuff.
>>14879340 This guy >>14879315 Beat me to the curve, he's correct, it was just a made up story. 1. -Only- Plato speaks of Atlantis, there are literally -No- Other claims that say it existed -nor- writings of it.
So lets say I'll write a book about earth being ran by cats but then they went back to their planet leaving us alone and 1000 years later the book is accepted as truth mainly for the fact that no one is disproving me nor speaking about it, and it's just me mentioning this.
Do you see the problem with it?
>inb4 it's only a family tale that Solon shared with Plato
Well then, Solon got it from the Egyptians who also supposedly written about it? However, there's no writings about Atlantis besides the Platos one, if it were to be true, we'd at least find -Some- writings about it from other people, but that's not the case, Plato is literally the only one.
2. All this time, search and etc, there's still no evidence of it existing.
>Inb4 Plato got coordinates wrong.
They stopped looking at the geographical part for a long time now as they assumed that the first time and still not even a trace.
>>14879370 He literally says it's a story. It presents a philosophical dilemma and the way he chose to portray and explain this was by creating the story of Atlantis. Conveniently, the story part has been ignored for long enough that people started to think it was real.
>>14879370 Are you like 12 or something? Or just really dumb? Reading this actually concerned me for your safety. I don't know why, but I feel like I need to get you a helmet and not let you outside so you don't hurt yourself. I felt genuine sadness for you deep down in my being and I think you literally may have changed my life.

The more original the stories the less the exaggeration of the scale of the physical damage more emphasis on the social impact.
>>14879384 >1. -Only- Plato speaks of Atlantis, there are literally -No- Other claims that say it existed -nor- writings of it.
That's because Atlantis existed and was destroyed before written language was even invented, before the Sumerians started poking markings in clay, and before Egyptians got bored enough to scribble on the walls.
Writing didn't just up and become a story telling media over night. It probably was one of the slowest developing technologies of all time. I'm sure spoken language carried on a lot of the info/details and story tradition for centuries.
>>14888151 Actually, analysis of wikipedia have found it to be generally about as accurate as the Encyclopaedia Britannica. Phony articles are easy to detect because of the lack of citations, short or excessive length and the general lack of the normal style, and that's without mentioning their flaws can be flagged in the discussion page.
>>14888291 http://library.blogs.delaware.gov/2013/05/05/is-wikipedia-a-reliable-source/ >Because Wikipedia’s reliability has been in question while increases in use have driven its popularity, there have been studies comparing this online encyclopedia with a well-known, highly reputable source, the “Encyclopedia Britannica.” For example, “Nature” conducted comparative research on a sampling of science articles and information in 2005 and reported the Britannica Encyclopedia (online version) was a similar source when compared to Wikipedia.
>>14878488 The most thorough and objective researcher on ancient human origins is Andrew Collins, whose verdict is that Atlantis is the underwater area that surrounds what is now known as the Caribbean -- and more precisely, Cuba and Hispaniola:
>>14887294 I was gonna call you a faggot, because I've always heard Aztlan described as some kind of Eden full of greenery type in the Southwest US, not a high tech island city as Atlantis is usually described as. But after doing some research, I found out that there's more than just one version of the story. One codex describes it as being controlled by tyrannical elites called the Azteca Chicomoztoca. And another even depicts it as pic related. Pretty interesting, actually.
>>14890321 Don't know, but it could be related to these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesoamerican_world_tree Red represent east, and green is north, IIRC Also, the Mexica's departure from Aztlan is said to have happened during the 11th century, way way after the supposed events of Atlantis
>>14891254 if you look up the 2nd book of adam and eve, it says something about how the ones that left the mountian with Cain came back and looked like angels
my guess is they were all black and turned other colors from pigment mutations, until something came along and turned us totally different colors and stuff. Human breeding or alien shit or disease or whatever else. WHo knows.
>>14879161 So much this. There is an area of sea bed that corresponds to the description given by Plato in several particulars. 1. He says Atlantis lies outside the Med (beyond the pillars of Hercules). He says it is connected to a chain of other island, and a continent on the far side. Thus he predicts the existence of America pretty accurately. And describes the sea bed of the west Atlantic! 2. A large rectangular plain, with mountains on three sides. There is such a thing on the sea bed near the Azores. 3. A mountain near the coast "broke off all around". There is a flat topped mountain on the edge of this area.
There is also a most curious set of (for want of a better word) lines on the sea bed near this mountain, which is approx 40 miles across. This is square, and has the appearance of a city layout. Remember, this is under a couple of miles of ocean. 31 15'15.53N 24 15'30.53W
>>14895173 >lots of underwater volcanos, and islands that exist as a result of volcanic activity >if Atlantis is there, it's buried under lava >and there are people living on those islands, so it is best not to disturb all that >this makes it pretty hard (maybe impossible) to falsify if Atlantis existed.. right there
Have you ever read Critias by Plato? He wrote himself is fictional. Atlantis is the land of Atlas, a mythical figure. But Atlantis is the world people work, not have their private life. So the corporations, the farmers land, the schools (from the teachers point of view), the church (from the preachers point of view), the airport (from the pilots point of view).
>>14895153 OP here Was looking through thread an saw this.
My best guesses have always been within this pic.
What I have considered when looking at this region is what could have been above sea level before the end of the Ice Age.
What I found was there are only a few good candidate islands - and then even those would require around ~150m in tectonic rifting/subsidence over the last few millennia to have been an Ice Age island. >Slow and/or sudden tectonic subsidence would make sense >Annual average movement < -2cm/yr (for the last 12ka) >May not look like much yet many of this little islands are still ~100km across
And since sharing is caring... Here's a cool applet from the related pic. http://merkel.zoneo.net/Topo/Applet/
>>14895173 Possible. >No doubt would it be within an Atlantic Empires influence/colonization But applet/sea-level record demonstrate more of a ~2km geologic height change need.
