I went out to see an exhibition on pop art recently. Needless to say I was shocked when I chanced upon the artwork (attached) by artist Joe Tilson named 'Nine Elements' which was created in 1963. Any of you who are familiar with the urban legend surrounding 'Voices of /x/' or 'VOX'- 'the journal which drove it's participants insane', or the group known as 'Cult of Saturn' who lurked this board making 9x9 images in 2013 will immediately understand why I was mesmerised by an eerie sense of familiarity. Those who aren't should check these links:
Has anyone read this?
See I stumbled on this creepy pasta on reddit recently which sheds more light on the whole COS thing:
Then I saw this image at the art gallery. If you expect me to take this experience as some kind of 'sign' or 'synchronicity' inviting me into halls of speculation about whispering ghosts or gods, or myths about demonic possessions, looming apocalypses or some other stupid superstition then forget about it, you are mistaken.
Actually I have come here to specifically debunk this trail of deceit. To separate fact from fiction in regards to 'synchronicity journals' and 'internet cults'. And once and for all put a sink-hole in the ship of those info-pirates creating a trail of violent disinformation around the cyber-ocean of peace loving folk. Their goal has always been to ensnare the minds of vulnerable individuals, but mine is to liberate and clean the air of the collective unconscious.
This is definately worth a read:
Following on from this expose. This post… is an attempt to further disengage the 'cult of saturn's techniques in the creation of a mental fishing hook in the public mental-space, by further exposing their cunning slight of hand tricks, I aim completely demolish the power of this group, once and for all.
For those not in the know; The Cult of Saturn were famous for creating grid images on this board in 2013 which they called 'Zener' or 'cube of Saturn' threads which invited the viewer to engage with imagery mathematically, adding up meaning in order to realise some grander or more unified meaning, a kind of hypnoses of imagery. It turns out that the theoretical elements behind these cryptic threads such as these:
…had a lot of precedent. In fact the process of adding up the meaning of iconographic symbols in larger 'sentences', or visual moments of understanding is one of the most basic facts of language. Humans long for closure, and when invited the human brain will always attempt to tie disparate elements together, to unify isolated experiences of language and create paragraphs, novels or libraries of meaning.
The most sinister aspect of the Cult of Saturn was to weave a common thread through their work tying people's 'synchronicities' - (personal moments of interconnected meaning), to their larger egregore of meaning which encouraged an outlook of fear and hopelessness rather than one of empowerment or positivity.
Tilson's exploration of language in his Pop art works such as 'The arrival of Demeter' [attached] explored the themes of human language in a totally pictorial way, incorporating body language, the senses, time and space, emotion, even hunger and reproduction by creating grids of 9 x 9. The viewer was asked nothing more than recognising the interconnectedness of human experience. Wether the Cult of Saturn stole these concepts directly from pop artists like Tilson or perhaps earlier explorers of the visual (Alchemists, musicians, designers, artists) is unknown but in any case there was nothing original in what they were trying to achieve.
The difference was their intention of using language to trap and control rather than explore.
Take a look at the Cult of Saturn tumblr account and you can see what the purpose of their manipulation was:
… Cosmic terror, in its most simplistic form. Images of horror and death used to steal control of the subconscious pathways of the impressionable.
Tilson on the other hand celebrates life not death. His works evoke the gods and goddesses of fertility, beauty, humanity and the harvest.
Interesting article, but its list of COS threads on plebs casts a pretty wide net, but does link to lots of intriguing pics such as:
Now back to my own 'synchronicity'. Is the fact that I chanced upon this surrealist work of art which both contains the letters 'VOX' and is divided up in the same grid that the cult of saturn used to hijack the journal on /x/ (Also called VOX) to be noted????
Is this mere co-incidence REALLY worthy of analysis? Is it truly some cosmic invitation to be involved deeper in this web of conspiracies? Google some Tilson with me.
More analysis is needed. It is unknown wether COS stole directly from Tilson but regardless of this ….some simple observation removes and de-mystifies the value of co-incidences and synchronicity. 'VOX' has Roman origins and essentially means 'voices'. Theres no surprise that Tilson's art repetitively uses the word given that he was trying to replicate all of the senses and this is the simplest short-hand of representing the audio visual. (short of a picture of an ear). His use of 'key' is curious. As for the VOX 4chan journal. Well we know this journal wasn't created by COS…. just hijacked. When you think about it, its a common word and not surprising it was chosen for the journal. We don't know everything about the creators of VOX but we do know some….. Like Jamie Grefe who took over for a while;
We know that some of the members were intelligent artists and writers ..so would it be so curious if they were to adopt this word or even to have been inspired by artists like Tilson? And what about the 9 x 9 reduction of various elements… Lets look at the origins of that…already the mystery is disappearing.
Effectively what the images created by the Cult of Saturn do is invite the viewer to take two separate pictures and join them as a unified whole to create broader strands of meaning. Once again there is nothing original in this. One of Tilsons contemporaries, Richard Dunn, created pop-artworks which juxtaposed contrasting images to manipulate the way people react to certain scenes by altering their context.
In fact this technique has an even longer tradition in the medium of sequential art [ from hieroglyphics to comic books to the modern graphic novel ] …which I will analyse shortly
The artistic aspect has to do with Burrough's cut-up method. That's from the 1950s and the Dadaists used it in the 1920s. This unknown Tilson guy is late to the party.
Immants TILLERS - is another pop-artist who dissects images to alter our way of seeing. Tillers deconstructs landscapes with text and grids. Here a simple mountain is divided up into individual photographs - disconnecting our understanding of the whole. Instead of merely appreciating the beauty of the mountain we start to consider the smaller puzzle portions of earth and sky on their own…. and moreover ask 'what is the meaning of the space between.'
Yes. That method seems very relevant.
Borroughs is to the literary world what Tillers and Tilson are to the visual arts.
Tillers and Tilson are opposites but of the same ilk. Whilst Tilson is a minimalist, seeking out the philosophers stone of meaning, reducing everything to 'nine elements'…. Tillers is a deconstructionist, who sees the same problems in the boundaries of language and art that Tilson sees, but cant help but stay fixated on reality. Thence instead of focussing on the atomic structure of reality [ like Tilson ] Tillers looks outward towards nature, bringing a hammer and nail to the glass pane of reality, and tapping gently as our eyes observe the stark crack which spreads over our mind and perception from the borderline of left brain and right brain.
In a rather fantastic gigantic piece of art 'White aborigines' [ which must be seen in person for true effect]… Tillers creates what at first looks like a giant comic book action scene depicting violence, but on closer discovery is made up of tiny unique comic-book panels where the viewer can just make out other scenes happening within, in a big muddy puddle of time and space, ripped to pieces.
You may ask what any of this has to do with exposing the cult of saturn. The answer is this;
Every piece of art or fiction has a technique behind it. Like the audience who first witnessed a train in motion pictures, leapt out of their seat for fear of being flattened by the approaching train, without understanding the magicians trick we can be fooled by the illusion. But once we know the method behind it we can see through the parlour trick.
Scott Mcloud is an expert on the visual language of 'sequential narrative' or 'comics'…here he explains the power of the space between elements in frames in creating closure. Once we can understand this we can understand how the Cult of saturn were able to hypnotise people.
Look at more of the cults images. The truth is they didn't even need to convince the viewer to create meaning in disparate images, it was innately within human intellect to do so. The trick was imposing their own narrative into the unconscious by eliminating any actual narrative. When we watch the 'terminator' movies or read superman comics, whilst the storytelling techniques emerse us in that world, we are never convinced of the reality of those worlds. However when there IS no narrative only abstract meaning we can convince ourselves that meaning is personally connected to us..
This is interesting.
I should point out that "vox" is a latin word meaning voice.
I also have to point out the irregularity of the die in the bottom row. On a normal six-sided die the opposing sides add to 7, but this one shows 3 and 4 adjacent. My conclusion, then, is that this is a six-sided die numbered 3-8, meaning opposing sides add to 11.
What's the relevance of the numbers on the dice?
So comics have been exploring the power of the gutter, or the 'space between' visual communication for decades.
It is probably almost inevitable that sometime during that exploration that at some point an awareness of the mechanisms of the inner world of comics would converge with the outer worlds of the writer and artist.
The borderline between the fictional space of the comic book and the mental space of the artist takes place on paper off stage to the reader. Therfore the fourth wall between the reader and the writer was always kept at a distance.
However this distance was bridged by the internet and social media, and now the fourth wall between author, celebrity and audience has become narrower than ever and may have broken completely.
Andrew Hussie, author of the webcomic series 'MS paint adventures' explores this in his interactive web comic 'Homestuck', in which the boundaries of comic, game and blog are torn down and Hussie exposes himself behind the 'fourth wall'.
Here the mental processes of all characters are broken down as Hussie gives himself the command 'Engage in highly indulgent self insertion into story'.
The Cult of Saturn used this technique in reverse. Instead of creating fiction which the reader chose to immerse themself in. CoS forced entry into the fourth wall of vulnerable people, creating a corner stone between multiple fourth walls.
In the 'Homestuck' universe, multiple internet friends are engaged in a consuming inter-dimensional game, similar to the ARG which CoS conducted in 2012 and 2013.
Homestuck built on the existing identification/emotion memes developed on imageboards like 4chan, exploring the world of the reconisable on a medium that was still new to a lot of people.
Cult of Saturn were also memetic, but in a different way. They attempted to create a complete memetic snowball. To hijack the mental sphere of the internet completely.
Every now and again human culture opens up a new medium which completely resets our archetypal reference sheet. The internet was one such medium.
It seems that there is a new archetypal space capable of exploration. A mental space which is under represented and this is what games like homestuck try to do, and what groups like Cos and advertising/marketing companies so desperately want to hijack and dominate.
nigger have you even read homestuck? Hussie even says, in the comic, that all he does is place an ordinary yardstick into a portal.
This is a tryhard edgy occult post, 0/10
>built on the existing identification/emotion memes developed on imageboards like 4chan
you mean he made some "witty references" to 90's B-movies
This whole thread is shit
Fortunately we can fight off the fascist intentions of groups like COS and marketing companies.
Then we are free to fill the archetypal space of the collective unconscious with our own positive, individual, liberating and life-affirming imagery. Anything is possible a whole new storytelling world to explore...
The internet space is like a maze.
And our journey through it is like a journey through a tube. A unique trail which leaves a web history encased permanently like a a fossilised embryo of our lives.
There are times when one can feel at the helm of their computer that they are in the seat of an auto mobile without a steering wheel driving into the unknown. In the future we will require more art which deals with the unique sensations and feelings which this environment creates. Building on works of art from the past and learning from the mistakes of groups like CoS.
'House of leaves' by Mark Danielewski was one such work which was ahead of its time in exploring these themes. A meta narrative which explores the themes of space and sense of home, much like 'homestuck', 'house of leaves' creates a kind of maze within its pages whilst still being a traditional paperback novel. Every time the word house is used in the text it is underlined and highlighted like a hyperlink text, creating a growing sense of unease as the characters own sense of space is hit by an apocalyptic meteor of agorophobia. The sense of being connected to the internet which creates this feeling of being on the precipice of the infinite.
The other irony of the internet, is that whilst the space creates an infinite abyss reaching out from us. Social media platforms create the environment where we have no space at all.
The fourth wall is gone for all of us, not just in our art, but in our lives. We are surrounded at all times, always on the radar, always on the grid.
But perhaps this wont last forever...
Perhaps we will eventually find more space within virtual spaces. Our freedom in the virtual world will open up, just as large as our freedom in the real world.
We will no more expect to have our personal data stolen than our other personal property. Nature will level out.
Maybe youre right, but the comparison to hyperlink is still valid.
Read this article. It explains it all pretty well:
ARGs in themselves represent a new medium in which the old fourth wall in traditional narratives are gone. Is this the future of storytelling??
In any case, one thing is for certain, story telling will continue, and in time it will once more grow stronger than the cult of personality and peer indulged information which allows groups like CoS to thrive.
We will continue to add up two images by the invisible gutter which represents the human + sign although we don't see it. However unlikely ever again will we feel the need to add up infinity all at once and expect an = sign.
The cult of saturns great deceit was to manipulate mathemaical truths in the visual to make the solution appear more than was there. They claimed to be able to fold up time-space and provide a definitive answer to all of it.
They promised humans their ultimate desire fullfilled - 'absolute closure'
But of course they couldn't deliver. Infinity goes on. And meaning expands outwards forever ... Until the end of the universe.
Perhaps life is an ARG, but that doesn't change the rules we were already familiar with.
So enjoy your personal tube journey into the unknown. Stop adding up 1 by 1. And don't be fooled by groups like Cos who will tell you:
A + B = C therfore D
Enjoy your own cubic spiral outward from the internet and back into life. I bid you a fond farwell and leave you with some beautiful post cubic artworks by William Robinson.
They also evoke a lone trail out into a personal infinity.
No matter where you are.
You're a shooting star.
Find yourself a nice girl, and a nice place to settle. Leave the puzzle of the world behind you and embrace your unique personal future.
It's actually not that hard making a cursed book. It's really therapeutic for yourself actually.
Just imagine taking all your personal demons, negative energy, bad thoughts and hatred and putting it in a book.
If your an asshole, you let other people read it...
Or are they assholes for reading what's yours?
There are no coiincidences. Or are there? Yes, probably otherwise we would never have invented the damn word.
So it seems that by reading that massive info dump, I've found what made the first VOX group so successful with their ability to recognize synchronicity was their extreme use of drugs, maybe the next step in the journey is to consume a shit load of ketamine
So as im reading this stuff i start to find it more and more strange.... The guy contacting Frank got a response clearly saying
" I am looking for someone who can create Polybius for Iphone".
Now i don't know if you guys actually know the creppy pasta regarding the game Polybius calling it a goverment experiment called MK-ULTRA which was ALL about mindcontrol..
Now who would want a game like Polybius released for mind controlling reasons and what would their goal be?
More than that i found that Polybius's ingame background (from a gameplay video) looks like Sacred geometry, the METATRONS CUBE to be precise..
I really think this is just the next step of boring and retarded....
I reae almost everything but most of it is idiotic shit like..i came here to make a thread and the there was a thread already with the same picture i wanted to use muhh syncro...
this is a topic with rp wildcards for everyone and nothing else..
As of nobody would get the idea to make an app about a pasta to..fuckin sell it you genius
polybius is knowm all over the net from youtube to 4chan etc and after all the miracle is that there isn't already an app or pc version of this game because obviously there are enough people who would buy it because they muhh mkultra i have to see it..
is this really the level of intelligence here ?.......
Dude its a conschpiracy he asked foe polybius in a kind of mind control whatever thread....
Actually i dont take much attention towards this Frank guy, nor why HE would want the game published. But i do look at the understanding og a reason why.
As well with MK-ULTRA it was a Little piece of background information nothing Else. But given the fact i recognise the geometrical Background in Polybius and im sure it is Sacred geometry, i was looking for maybe a guess or explanation for using Sacred geometry in an 80's game?
We know that there is a way of Mathematical correct porportions in geometrical figures have effects on the human brain.
I personally think that all of this exploration of symbolism and archetypes is abstraction.
I mean all of the human races myths and storiest are just that. Stories. But we build layer after layer of language and meaning on top of them. At times it seems fitting that we should just erase everything we know and start again. New stories. New myths.
You know we look on certain tribal cultures as primitive. But often their stories and lanuage are much closer to the land, to reality. If we combined science with simpler stories like those of Australian aboriginals, of humans in harmony with nature, everything would be a lot more chill.
anon already posted that vox is latin for voice
putting pictures 3 by 3 is not special and many artists do it
faggots do it with their macbooks all the time
why is this thread still going
here let me solve all your mysteries
The platonic solids which is the base of geometry converted mathematically into hertz created the first musical scale known to man.
If you look long enough you will find geometry in everything, living or dead.
Often a great way to take a shortcut indeed. The "primitive" often had a greater understanding in a lot of cases.
Though we still have a broader pallet to explore today with more tools and so.
What the fuck have you seen this OP?
Actually the midnight crew bears much resemblance to the description of one Frank Wester. Maybe Hussie is part of CoS too.
Weird. So many views. How have I not heard of this?
Psychology, astronomy, theology.
Alot of things bot mostly regarding the individual and it's expressing, growth and feelings. Im not a teacher, i ask you to do your own homework. Everything is right in front of you.
Do i look like a teacher to you maybe? No, so go take responsibility for your own learning. Im not gonna use my time saying every bit of work that the primitive had a better undstanding of than us. You do that yourself
I don't said that the "real" polybius wasn't some kind of test from whoever.
the sacred geometry thing would kind of hypnotise you or whatever..just saying why someone would make a game of it today is obvious in my opinion.
Oh you're from the timeline where no photoshop exist..
>Has anyone read this?
i just read it. wait a fuckin tick is this the same frank that used to always be on here saying "wanna play a game?" and having people look into a mirror in the dark with a candle until they start talking to themselves?
Did you read this on r/scared shitless OP?
My friend sent me the link and the cover on facebook. I guess this story is going around.
Perhaps this is the mysterious individual whom you're referring to:
I don't know the full story, just that he was fined for playing a "haunted house sound effects" cassette tape in a cemetery when people were trying to pay their respects.
This is probably my favorite book of all time. I enjoyed the parts that had to do with the House and Johnny's descent into the "otherness" he encounters. It wasn't cliche, like most things where they rely on demons or ghosts to scare. It used the feeling of uncomfort to make the reader unsettled. The creative use of type and font orientation just served to highlight that sense of unease. Johnny is a guy who goes from liking to get out and do stuff with people to someone like us, a recluse chasing after answers to an unanswerable riddle. It's also got a nice way of saying things, which probably doesn't make a lot of sense. It's worth what I paid for it and I'm sure there are used copies online for much less. Definitely worth the money.
Thank you! I've been looking for these images for a while now, since my computer died.
Not sure either. COS has been dead for over a year. The remaining members believe there's a second group (a new one) trying to pin a new arg/project onto cos/other people.
The people who spend so much time trying to "debunk" the vox/etc don't realize they spend more time doing that than the voxers actually think about vox in general.
sort of funny to watch, really.
How do you know so much about this anyway?
For starters i'll treat you as disinfo. I know for a fact that Cos never stopped. I have a friend who was in a chat client with 60 or so people calling themselves cult of Saturn two months ago. Members in that group like a guy called Chet and a girl called Tania said they had been part of Cos for at least four years.
Treat it as whatever you want.
I know inner circle CoS members and that part of CoS is dead - unless there's a second group - as I said.
Nothing disinfo about that.
I've also been accused as being CoS by some of these... debunkers. We don't always tripfag you know.
I know that Franks group was a circle jerk group to have fun and to advertise his magazine.
The new vox threads that were popping up weren't anything to do with CoS - they were all studying syncs legitimately.. but these debunkers went out of their way to derail the threads.
Yeah, past threads were CoS run - admittedly. But frank is a disinfo faggot and any of the voxxers from a couple months ago knew that.
I was in a chat with some of the original members of CoS recently, I think they have had a falling out with some other member. A girl named Lucy?
Anyway. The original CoS is virtually dead, but this other girl is trying to revive it. So thats probably what the latest stuff is about. She says she represents Jupiter ascending and she keeps spamming them with trailers for the movie 'Jupiter ascending'. So yeah. Basically they're all insane. Pretty fun people to hang around though. Never a dull moment.
So I'm guessing this is a new group of CoS? because I've not heard any of this from previous inner circle Cos. We even jokingly dubbed new inner circle members a few months back because we thought it was a joke.. but a few people were wondering if there was another side group somewhere. The voxers were curious too. I guess that answers that question.
Who is the she they're talking about? lucy?
Some crazy bitch who claims to be the wrath of god or something. She's pretty much schizo. But shes hot-as-fuck so she gets away with it.
Anyway. I don't think her rival cult will last long because whenever she tries to start some great revolution, she basically just ends up attracting all these tongue wagging internet geeks who ask her to camwhore all day.
She keeps instagramming people these crazy jpegs like this one.
It all started. I mean I say that but I think that these two have a lot of history anyway. But they started getting antzy with each other about three weeks ago when a bunch of us watched the movie 'Lucy' together, and Frank made a joke that Lucy was more like the ape in the start of the film than Scarlet johannsen. Lucy spammed the chat and told him he was a deadshit fuckhole. Then Frank apologised and told Lucy that he wanted her to write an editorial in False Prophet issue 12. But then he published this joke which said 'durr durr. Girls are stupid. By Lucy' and she flipped her shit started sending everyone Mila Kunis on FP screenshots with 'sexist prick' written all over it. Then she convinced a bunch of members to quit the cult and start a rival one.
This is kind of interesting. I kind of always wondered what the fuck Hussie was talking about. I mean I know he had some cryptic ICP juggalo reference with all the clowns and stuff some allusion to god or something.
But I never thought about the S-burb game being like some reference to the Cube of Saturn. Suddenly everything is making sense.
I'm re-evaluating everything.
So who is who in this picture? I'm interested.
Ok. Here's some information for you OP.
One of the people who worked at Med Systems software (The creator of cult adventure game 'Lucifer's realm') for the Apple II:
..was the great grand-nephew of Abin Grau:
(The production designer for the original 'nosferatu') One of the seminal films which started the film industry (A version of Bram stokers Dracula) Fraternis Saturni was a German magical order founded in 1928 which had the same 33 degree system as freemasonry.
I used to assosciate with the leader of CoS (Frank Webster) and one time, (whilst drunk)
he confided in me that his father created Lucifer's realm. So... Put it all together and you can see what a clusterfuck you are truly you are getting yourself into.
If you think thats crazy then how about the fact that members of Cos were doxxed and found to be living in the same house as the creators of; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_Nine_Angles
A group who claims to aim to usher in a new age of violence and mayhem. Also both seem to be involved in the cicada 3301 experiments.
You sincerely cant trust the anons on this website. Even moot is in on this conspiracy. Everyone has a price.
I knew a member of Cos. He was this supreme goth called Lamach. He said he worshipped Nagash, and that Cos were just a stepping stone in the new age of the undead. He said there were seven ages of the undead on earth. First were the machines or the brain ghosts or something which were supposed to happen this century. Then the zombie age which was an accident that followed the rebirth experiments. Which would be followed by a third more ordered age, 'the age of the necomancers' which Cos embodies way ahead of their time allegedly. Anyway, they all thought that in the next life they would all be hoarding deadites or something.
Lamach was a pretty weird guy. He said that his family lineage went right back to the first of the Nazgul or something, and his great grandfather was a wannae vampire who tried to drink his wifes blood, but died of cancer.
He said that humanity was yet to appreciate the grace and elegance of the nazgul and the other dark ones, and it was basically akin to a kind of racism. But the time was coming when people would gain more respect for the races of eternal night, and it would all start with virtual reality, because the equivalent of necro-wizards in today's world were responsible for opening the virtual dream world which would save humaniy from utter dispair.
Anyway he didn't worship Frank or anything, he basically said Frank was a narccistic faggot but he was the chosen one to carry the silver key to the gate of dreams or something to do with virtual reality.
He also claimed that someone had to be sacrificed to usher in the new age. Some girl who was like the earth lineage of Eowyn who defeated his great great great great great great great.... greatgreat... (...) grandfather or something in battle. I only mention all this because Lamach assosciated this descendent with this Lucy girl that you're all talking about... So their is some weird cult mythology there. Some of the other members have had a vesed hatred in Lucy for ages. Doesn't surprise me that this split has finally happened. I think Lamach used to hang out with some of the regulars from 'worlds' and they actuall created a secret room which was like a 'darts' room and it just had these giant dart boards which had like Lucy's face on it and maybe some of the Fraters or something. Actually its funny you mention the film Lucy, Lucy actually kind of looks like Scarle Johannsen, she is super cute. Not just trying to score brownie points with Lucy, but Lucy if you are reading this Luce, then.... You know i'm on your side... :P
So yeah. Anyway. All this VOX synchro crap is really funny. Basically my advice to anyone tagging along to any of this crap.... is CoS really couldn't give two shits about synchronarccisism, they are acuallty weird goth wannabe wizards who want to raise the dead or somehintg and create this public profile about new age synchro crap just to draw suckers and new agers into their web.
Also thx for the kind words. But why the fuck are you even posting on these shitty CoS troll threads??
Care to tell me and the rest of us a little about yourself?
Cult of Saturn T-shirt Copyright Infringement
Yeah, meant CoS
But now, thanks to you anon I can see it points more to a "more serious" group trying to study synchronicities, with obvious influence of the first CoS, as can be seen from Voxxers and a recent spike of FalseProphet references and related threads (Dream threads, some quotes dropping on seemingly unrelated threads, key and gates and so on)
Perhaps it's all Synchronicity and I'm going a bit overboard.
The connections of voxxers to the previous group was all purely coincidental.
As crazy as it was.
but, there were a few people that us voxxers noticed that they (some group of people) were trying to push the sync studies back towards FP & CoS. It was had to pull away from it with those people trying to do that on top of the debunkers.
Us voxxers knew there was a second group and the debunkers - at least, but were unaware there was still a CoS group still going on because we had contact with previous inner circle CoS and they had no idea either.
The only reason the voxxers brought up previous syncs is somehow they were all actually related to current ones - I'd found a break in the syncs we compiled and found out all of them were somehow related. (still a hypothesis)
I'm pretty good at finding patterns and it's never failed me in the past - so I really thought I was on to something.
but after I got the break in things the threads started to spin out of control and with mouth of truth/the second group and debunkers it was just hard to get anyone to listen to the voxxers.
We were legitimately studying syncs and this unknown group + the debunkers basically made us into a joke.
Several of us were having issues in life, or got busy and I just haven't picked it up since. - but as soon as someone referred me to the two current threads I started getting an influx of syncs again and it makes me anxious.
but, we'll see how it plays out.
Many died in the week, but here's an example.
An off topic post in a seemingly unrelated thread made me re-read everything with a completely different viewpoint and helped me understand so much about the topic at hand.
It also came on a moment I was re-reading about rituals involving the Lock and the Key.
My theory is that the human race IS the machine.
But we already have within ourselves the cababilities for our own destruction. The ghost is our defence mechanism as a species warning us that we are reaching a critical mass and thus to try and over ride the 'false prophet' within us, which is the calming voice who luls us into inaction, the voice which says 'dont worry everything will be alright'
I heard that high ranking members of the cult of Saturn bathe in bathtubs filled with canned betroot juice every thursday and pretend its blood so they will absorb vampire powers.
Also Frank instagrammed me a picture of his penis and I think he may use fake tan on his private parts.
Anything can happen with synchronicity,
You can hear those freaky voices coming from your TV,
You can think the government is trying to watch you pee,
Or open Saturns magic box and let some faggot wizards free,
Anything can happen with syncrhonicity,
You can start an online journal filled with insanity,
You can search for a made up book thats called the lock and key,
Or have you schizophrenia laughed at by some trolls like meeee....
Anything can happen with synchronicity,
You can find a skeleton in a room that bleeds,
Or read about shitposting cult on a million different feeds,
You can hope this generation isn't one that breeds...
Nis-ah --- teeeeeeee
Anything can happen with synchronicity,
You can focus on minute details to escape reality,
You can see the number 666 on number plates all down the street,
Or ignore the fact illuminati videos are a load of sheet...
Anything can happen in a 4chan meme,
You can impersonate Tim Curry, make him dance and scream,
You can derail a thread with loads of irrelavant imag-ery,
Or just make a joke of a whole topic in its complexity...haha...
Oh fuck. This was awesome. I was trying to make mine as funny as this original but its just not working.
This is so great though. Just sums up the whole VOX/ cult of saturn phenomenon in four lines. Bravo good sir, bravo.
I found this rather mundane analysis interesting OP. If only because I am interested in video game design and interactivity, and i'd never considered the relevance in the language of comics and its relationship to interactivity.
I too like Scott Mcloud, 'understanding comics' was an incredible piece of analysis, and Mcloud gives insight that is truly mind-blowing. I found it interesting how in his second big work of analysis 'making comics' he created this visual metaphor about a key and a door, but it never payed off in the same way that his visual metaphors do in 'Understanding comics'. I think Mcloud, probably wasn't aware that he was sliding out of his territory in comics with this 'pick up key' metaphor, but in fact he may just have stumbled on the very founding blocks of interactive fiction and video gaming.
In the documentary 'Get lamp', Jason Scott traces the history of video games back to early interactive fiction. His reference to early commands from the 'collosal cave adventure', ('Get lamp') is not far away from Mcloud's simplistic storyboard 'Man finds key. He stops to pick up key. He opens door. A lion jumps out.'
A lot of early games obviously relying fundamentally on exploration of spaces, made basic puzzles out of doors and keys, as this gave the character a basic drive, and hence creates the most basic form of puzzle there is. 'Door is locked'. 'Must find key'.
The importance of the 'find key' puzzle is greater than just the need to make a puzzle, but has everything to do with the way we relate to video game avatars and characters. In a comic we rely on the artwork and storytelling to expand our empathy for the character in order to keep us engaged. But the method of engagement in video games is different. Complex character development is still possible however it is not essential, what is more essential is that the player's desire is moved in line with the desire of the character. Puzzles are really only one form of this engagement, in shoot em ups or platforms for instance the engagement is less neccesary but can certainly enhance the players enjoyment. If for instance we feel empathetic to Mario having his girlfriend taken by Donkey Kong we are much more motivated to become the character and help to free the princess.
The players engagement with a game depends largely on their ability to forget their environmental surroundings, and hence the use of creating space within the game that the player engages with directly is all the more pertinent. Hence the key serves as a basic tool of escapism, stealing the desires from the player in the real world and drawing them into the virtual world of the game. Before picking up the key, our desire mode may be a real world modus (Go and finish homework) then once we have the key the modus becomes virtual (Explore space find locked door)
Its interesting to note on your comments about 4chan imageboard memes and they way they make us feel and react. There may be something in this engagement and acknowledgement of our own space, (Stick figure sitting at computer does A or B) may be so rewarding to us because it liberates the desire to be within the virtual space. With an awareness of the real world we are temporarily unlocked from the spell of the computer and brought to relief. The miniature space in the virtual game can also minimise our real world sense of space.
Video games have long been linked to the 'exploration of dream space'. Dating back to the collosal cave advenure game (which was created originally to map a real life cave).
So it has always been neccesary to create door and key scenarios, pushing back the preverbial door of pure metaphor and pushing forward the doorway of immediate sensory experience and linear story telling. It is the most basic means of test and reward. Unlocking new areas and levels within the archetypal 'game space'.
In object oriented adventure game play the 'key' may be the only truly abstract thing the player engages with, because it fundamentally allows the player to step into as yet unimagined spaces designed by the creators. Thence the key is inevitably tied up with the infinity of the original and subconscious dream space which every player has, weher they are consciously aware of it or not. The players very belief in the way the levels will pan out is dependent on the doors of perception, their abilty to fathom the world the creator has built and their understanding that this space will continue to unfold before them in a logical way, rather than merely slipping into the abstract surrealism of a dream.
As the player gathers more objects they will have a more mundane reaction, expecting to engage with them in the existing envinronment. But their will always be those objects which hold a more mystical quality within the game, merely because they were the objects which first created the players aligned desire wit h the game and call to interactivity.
It is probably also worthy of note that this sensory command 'pick up' will always remain the primary sense of attachment of game to player as this is how (Much like a blind person) the player connects most with the virtual world.
<look around> is obviously a much more abstract command as the player is already looking at the screen, and somehow implies that the avatar has a better visual sense than the player watching over them. There is no logical reason why we assume there should be anything on the other side of that door. It is taken completely on faith in the programmer. Hence behind the door is where our imagination literally carries off into the infinite.
Hence the door in video games are an extension of 'the gutter' as Mcloud outlines in comics. They form the outside of the game space where the player expects closure to eminate. The door is to video games, what the gutter is to comics.
Once we use the first interactive device. (Wether its 'pick up key' or 'get lamp' or whatever else, then we have literally let the lion of interactivity out. From then on potential invisible strings of desire and reaction appear in the mind of the player.
Everything in the game now has a quantifiable relationship to everything else in the game. Now the player demands a grand type of closure. Closure that runs through all things however, in the end most likely the game designer wont need to create such an elaborate sense of closure. In the end, closure will be as simple as the player finding their way to that final room of closure where the end sequence will begin. All the player needs to do is find the closure key to the closure door. In this sense the last key can be seen as opposite to the first key. Where the first key was aimed at opening up the world, the last key is aimed at folding it and closing it up.
Reduce the game to its simplest form (A text adventure) and it couldn't be more obvious.
The door is quite literally the door to the imagination. And the key represents the players desire to explore it. In a novel it is usually essential that the author create paragraphs to illustrate the setting immediately in order to keep the reader engaged in that setting. In interactive fiction however, all that is neccesary to instill in the player is the 'desire' to explore. Once the player shares this desire with the protagonist, they can remain in darkness for as long as they like, exploring the setting at their own pace.
Desire is a huge part of gaming. Freud linked dreams to desires as the reason we have them at all. Game designers analyse player desires and needs constantly in their mapping of the games architecture, wether its achievement, choice, satisfaction or competition.
Interesting phenomenon start to happen at the borderline of different mediums. OP mentioned Homestuck which is an interesting example. Like obviously the whole thing is a play on the expectation of interactivity in a game which is actually a comic, utilising the difference in objectives for humour. Hussie sets up the expectation for closure, the character Jon for instance stares at the sun, describin it as some indefinable riddle. Homestuck creates a never ending desire for closure, both in sense of the storyline and the game puzzle type element, but rarely if ever delivers. And in fact becomes quite tedious for this very reason, new characters constantly introduced, plotlines left permanently mysterious with no loose ends tied up. The more homestuck becomes a traditional narrative and less like an interactive adventure game, the more tedious and unendurable it becomes for the reader.
The needs of exploration and closure of the game, become replaced for the need for conventional story telling, the dialogue becomes too long and the story uncinematic.
First person shooters and action games are obviously different. All that they require are reflex and reaction. Their minimal state is space invaders or pong. A simple action that demands a reaction. But these type of games have more history in sports than in the arts. The key/door analogy is really only relevant to games with narrative and a protagonist who is developed to the player.
Of course, there is nothing new in storytelling, only the medium and the means. The key as metaphor for character desire, would be better expanded on through Campbells hero model. This is of course 100 percent relevant to game narrative. The hero with a thousand faces starts off with motivation, then they meet the wise man, then conflict comes, and finally victory. In fact the hero model is even more relevant to game narratives than films. Where in a film, the director can choose to make something completely whimsical or irrelevant, shots of a character staring at a wall and thinking nothing, the game narrative must keep a consistent trail of desire for the gamer, leading them from rabbit hole, to rabbit hole,
The simplest route for the creator of game fiction then, rather than to create ever complex puzzles is just to add more monsters. Once the door is opened up with the lion behind the puzzle becomes second strata and survival becomes the soul purpose of the game.
Mind you belief in the worthwile task of keeping the avatar alive only comes after enough is invested in the puzzle itself, and the worth of traversing the infinite passageway into the dreamers path all the way to the final door or end door.
The creator CAN fuck with the expectations of the player and ruin the desire stream, they can do whatever they want. If their intention is art and not 'playability' then they can interupt the narrative however they choose.
I sometimes wonder how the gaming narrative alters our actual mental narrative as compared to linear fiction.
Games ask that we are always puzzle seeking. Always solution finding, where fiction aims to set us free, often aiming nothing more than stopping to appreciate the beauty of a moment.
Does this sense of constant puzzle carry over to the real world? Do we like Jon in homestuck expect that our own life narratives will tie up in formative conclusions, or that every problem has some tangible solution? Maybe games are to blame for the change in our mental states, and thats why films like the Da Vinci spiralled into these out of control 'illuminati' conspiracies, encouraging people to add up the sum product of certain elements of knowledge, or why this 'cult of saturn' has do much power to affect peoples mental states.
I suppose in time, as we continue to open up new doors to our imagination, the contradictons of today will fade away in relevance.
This comparison of being on the internet to being like a car driving through a maze I thought was an interesting comparison.
The maze has always been a fundamental element at the heart of gaming. Just about everything revolves around it. In fact what a narrative is to a story, a maze is to a game. The first key is desire. The last door is closure.
Computer as automobile is also intriguing, and not just in terms of driving simulators. When you think about the way computers are set up, there is a long standing driving tradition, we have dashboards and desktops intertwined, all the stuff on our screen that allows us to engage with the environment (Both real world and virtual)
We have a series of windows, which open up portals to different tunnels of exploration. We are constantly navigating through the linear sense of nowness, juggling social media, comunication, entertainment, forums, games. Making large life decisions.
We are intertwined into the total-machine of man. Driving into nothingness. On the edge of oblivion.
Our home and real world becomes ever increasingly mingled with the virtual world.
In the end the internet provides no answers, no closure, no satisfaction. It fails the primary goals of both narrative fiction and interactive fiction.
Am I the only one who thinks that this shit is too complex, too fucking perfect, to be a hoax? There's a lot of info on this. A lot of material. And no obvious bullshit or inconsistency. What the actual fuck.
